A Resource based perspective on the link between CSR and organizational performance: Considering reputational capital as mediator
Corporate social responsibility is a widely discussed and very current research arena in the business world. The present study examines the effect of CSR on organizational performance from a resource based perspective. It elaborates how organizations being socially responsible can achieve financial gains for the company by generating intangible resources. Data was collected from 524 employees of manufacturing sector organizations through questionnaires. The results demonstrate that CSR is positively related to Organizational performance and reputational capital. The major contribution of study was to determine the mediating role of reputational capital which was also found significant for the dependent variable. Implications of research shows that how CSR practices can be beneficial for the organizations and how by actively pursuing the CSR strategy can enhance corporate reputations among all stakeholders which can lead to enhanced performance and hence provide competitive advantage

This case is based on the entrepreneurial venture of MBA students from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, named Ali Gohar (CEO) and Mubashsar Qureshi (CTO). Both studied at Cadet College and remembered the struggle they faced when they were looking for pretest preparations for the university admissions. That’s when they partnered to build the Unipedia, an easy way for struggling students to find quality aptitude test preparation at the low prices in comparison to coaching centres. This case is a brief about the online aptitude test preparation services in Pakistan. It will be a quick understanding of the industry dynamics and as to how the customer functions in this industry
SYNERGYZING THE INTEGRATION PRACTICES FOR ACHIEVING INTERNAL INTEGRATION”
This study examinesthe antecedents of internal integration in the Petroleum industry, particularly it focuses six precursors i.e. job rotation, interdepartmental trainings, intraorganizational knowledge sharing, management commitment, supportive information technologies and strategic consensus. A stratified sample comprising 234 managers from the petroleum firmsoperating in Pakistan participated in the study.Results indicated that, while individually, these factors have statistically significant effects on internal integration; collectively they exhibit trivial effects when they are notaligned. The studyproposes asynergized model for achievingthe internal integration, validates it through covariance technique, and discourses its methodologicaland theoretical extensions.
Impact of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises on Poverty Reduction in developing country: A case of Pakistan
This research has been conducted to examine the role of SME`s to eradicate poverty in Pakistan over the period of 2001-2015. The study investigates relationship by using secondary data from World development indicator by estimating simple linear regression model. Results indicate that small medium enterprises have a negative association with poverty and significantly lower poverty rate in Pakistan. SMEs generate employment opportunities which contribute to the poverty alleviation in the economy of Pakistan. Moreover, human capital and government expenditure also significantly reduce poverty in Pakistan. As government expenditure and human capital increase, it causes to lower poverty growth rate. Similarly trade and inflation also have significant association with poverty, however, inflation and poverty have positive association while trade has the negative association with poverty growth rate in Pakistan. The value of R square (0.756) indicates that model is a good fit and F-ratio states the overall significance of the model. Therefore, results suggest that government should adopt the policies that promote SME growth rate, trade openness, human capital, GDP, government development expenditure and lower inflation rate to control poverty in Pakistan.Keywords: SMEs, Poverty reduction, inflation, trade openness, government expenditure
PURCHASE INTENTION DRIVERS FOR PRIVATE LABEL BRANDS IN PAKISTAN
In todays’ increasingly competitive marketplaces, development and management of an effective Private Label Brand has become a priority for various retailers across the world. This research aims to study the effects of store image, store brand familiarity, service quality and perceived social value on purchase intent of Private Label Brands. It also examines the mediating role of Brand loyalty towards Purchase Intention. A multivariate data analysis techniques like structural equation modeling was used on 100 valid responses collected from food retail shoppers from Lahore, the second largest metropolitan city in Pakistan. The results of the analysis supported the direct as well as indirect effects studied through mediation of Brand Loyalty on Purchase Intention for Private label brands. All four store level factors had a significantly positive relationship with brand loyalty and thus it is imperative for managers to focus on strategies to improve store image, quality, familiarity and perceived value which will eventually have a positive and direct impact on purchase intention of PLB’s
Historical simulation of risk and return in Mutual funds through Value at risk Analysis
The study focuses on the financial distress of different mutual funds on their return and risk level by the help of historical simulation method that trade in volatile market environment. Value at risk explains that how a financial institution can estimate their risk level to mitigate their financial loss. With mutual fund application in mind, this paper proposes the Historical Simulation method and Value at risk analysis, with emerging funds performing better than old ones. In addition, statistical tests show that the larger potential loss the mutual fund currently is undertaking, the lower return of mutual fund will be.
LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES OF PHYSICIANS WORKING IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTOR HOSPITALS OF KARACHI
This article investigates the differences between physician working at public and private sector hospitals, on leadership competencies, in Karachi, Pakistan. To assess leadership competency “Leadership Competency Self-Assessment (Schulich University of Medicine and Dentistry, 2016) was used. Total 118 physicians working in 3 private and 3 public sector hospitals participated in the study. The results show no significant difference between private and public sector hospitals physicians on the subscales Foundational Leadership. However, significant differences were found on the subscales of Enhanced Leadership and Strategic Leadership competencies. In addition, the findings on the mean difference in Foundational leadership competencies subscales, between physicians received prior leadership training and have done prior leadership course/s and those who have not received these trainings or taken leadership course/s, were not found to be of significant value. However, significant differences were found in the results on Enhanced Leadership and Strategic leadership competencies subscales on physicians having done the prior leadership training and taken prior leadership course/s. In conclusion the public sector is in need to work towards bridging this leadership gap on all the areas highlighted in the subscales. Physician leaders in Hospitals should be equipped with essential competencies as leaders
Entrepreneurial Inclination of Students of a leading Business School of Karachi
This research is focusing on key areas of students intentions towards Entrepreneurship. Elements such as family size, family income and parents acting as role model for their children are the key highlights. It also incorporates the intentions of Entrepreneurship students during their study and trying to analyze to what extent the decision is stimulated into behavior. A triangulation approach has been used with survey a conducted from 98 students on parent’s occupation, family size and family income, income generating activities and residential area as part of survey questionnaire. AbstractThis qualitative study looks at the classroom pedagogical strategies of asking thought encouraging questions to promote critical thinking skills among the business students. General trends of Business education globally and in Pakistan suggest a preference for behaviorist rather than constructivist approaches, and needs to be replaced by critical thinking skills (Chun, 2010; Savery, 2009), for increased cognitive readiness for tasks that involve analysis and reasoning The study took Golding’s (2011) concept of ‘thought encouraging questioning’ as a model built on Richard Paul’s method of Socrates questions, to study if thought-encouraging questions can inculcate critical thinking among business students. A dialogic approach was taken to excite thought encouraging question by adapting Lipman’s (2003) concept of ‘community of inquiry’ into ‘community of critical thinkers’. Ideas for discussions were derived from a plethora of multidisciplines, experiences and readings. A sample of 41 students was taken from a business communication course. A 6-hour teaching/learning process was studied through observation and feedback during the stages of training, tasking and reflecting, using classroom observations, semi-structured interviews and qualitative questionnaire. The findings of the study suggest a need for explicit training in CT skills through thought encouraging questions, students’ preference for pedagogical interventions for enhancing critical thinking and increased quality time spent in formulating higher order questions
