    Analyzing Working Relationships of Young Employees with Older Employees:Evidence from Banking Sector of Pakistan

    This study attempts to explore the perception of young employees regarding mutual learning, team work, participative decision making and feedback while working with older employees. The data were collected from private and public sector banks in Pakistan. The sample of 324 was used for statistical analysis. The results reveal that all concerned variables like mutual learning, feedback, team work and participative decision making impact satisfaction level of young employees. The findings of the study have implications in understanding intergenerational differences at workplace. Moreover, this study will be helpful for employers in resolving the workplace problems related to relational diversity and to manage diversified work force in more productive way.

    The combined effects of job characteristics and cultural orientation on citizenship behavior

     This study examined the relationship of job contextual and relational characteristics with organizational citizenship behavior under cultural orientation at organizational level. The basic assertion was that employees who were more inclined toward collectivist cultural orientation would exhibit Organizational Citizenship Behavior in presence of enriched job characteristics.  Out of 230, only 171 usable responses received.  Job contextual and relational characteristics were strongly related with organizational citizenship behavior and cultural orientation at organizational level moderated the relationship of job characteristics with Organizational Citizenship Behavior

    Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategies, Reading Practices and Academic Attainments of University Students

    This study was conducted to examine the relationship between metacognitive awareness of reading strategies (MARS), and academic attainments (AA) of undergraduate business students. It also investigated the relationship between reading practices (RP) and MARS. There are three different categories of MARS – global, problem solving, and support reading strategies. The Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategies Inventory (MARSI), developed by Mokhtari and Reichard (2002) was used as the instrument for this study where the sample consisted of 571 male and female students of undergraduate business program from private and public universities of Karachi. The results showed Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategies significantly predicts academic attainments of university students. The findings suggest that conducting workshops or training sessions for promoting MARS may be helpful to enhance students’ concentration towards the reading process that may affect their learning. Keywords: academic attainments, metacognitive awareness of reading strategies, reading practices, undergraduate students

    The Experimental Study On the Effectiveness of Social Media Ad Campaign: Like, Comment, Share

    The popularity of social media outlets has forced us to inquire about marketing effectiveness in any area of the industry. Social media has rapidly risen in popularity as a new advertising platform that allows users to connect with one another and engage with brands.  This research has attempted to explore the attitude of people over the advertisements in what formats most people prefer to like, comment or share. We focus top trended social media sites Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to demonstrate the consumer engagement on advertisements placed on these sites. This research has identified the factors which influence the users to keep an eye out on advertisements that make them want to continue watching it as they spend their daily time on these social media websites and apps. To determine what makes Ads and online marketing campaigns successful we used variables such as Vividness, Content of Posts, Position of Posts, Scheduling and Call to Action.  It was conducted on 300 respondents. We used the questionnaire to collect the data and used a semantic differential scale. We questioned about the ads to respondents which were based on our variables. Results showed that our research is decisive but the variable call to action has an insignificant effect and other variables such as vividness, the position of post, the content of the post, schedule have a significant relation with customer engagement

    Impact of Green In-Store & Green Supply Chain Processes on the Performance of Large Retailers in Pakistan

    This study aimed to explore the relationship of green in-store activities and green supply chain processes with the economic performance of large retailers in Pakistan. It used a quantitative research approach using co-relational research design. The variables under the domain of Green In-Store processes included the Energy Management (EM), Waste Management (WM), and Green Consumption (GM) while the variables under the domain of Green Supply Chain processes included the Green Purchasing (GP), Green Logistics (GL), and Cooperation with Suppliers (CS). On the other hand, the performance of the large retailers in Pakistan was measured via two variables including Environmental Performance (ENP) and Economic Performance (EP). The results show that that Energy Management, Waste Management and Green Consumption are positively related to Green Supply chain practices like Green Purchasing, Green Logistics and Cooperation with Suppliers. It recommends that organizations, particularly large retailers in Pakistan should focus on environmental problems by executing supplier related green processes such as evaluating suppliers’ performance on greening, perform environmental audits, offer feedback to suppliers about these audits with training

    Interdependencies of Stock Index, Oil Price, Gold Price and Exchange Rate: A Case Study of Pakistan

    The core objective of the research conducted is to explore the interactions of stock index, gold price, crude oil price and exchange rate in Pakistan from September 1997 to April 2018. The interaction is examined by concurrent equations. For analyzing the trend of Pakistan economy, unit root test, correlation test, co-integration technique, vector autoregressive model, granger test is done. The result indicates absence of long run relationship among all of the variables. However, results demonstrate significant effect of crude oil price & Gold price on exchange rate. Whereas, Pakistan stock market is affected by exchange rate. Recommendations for the government are given to give more focus on economic policies for crude oil price, stock index, gold price and exchange rate to make them stable in the country. The study is tremendously beneficial for high authorities in business, policy and decision maker in the country and as well as investors because they can predicate and able to understand the fluctuation of these variables in the economy. Statistical software used for this study is EVIEWS 9th edition

    Do Macroeconomic Factors Effects CARAMELS Financial Soundness Indicators? A Context of Non-Life Insurance Industry in Pakistan

    The research is carried out to find out the relationship of macroeconomic factors with the financial soundness indicators of CARAMELS framework for non-life insurance industry, by using a panel data set of 22 non-life insurance companies of Pakistan from the year 2007 to 2016. The study is established on a most applicable panel data technique (random effects model). The Hausman test proves that random effects model is suitable for the macroeconomic factors’ study. Based on the highest number of relationships among the variables, the results of random effects model indicate that macroeconomic factors (inflation and economic growth) have insignificant relation with the CARAMELS financial soundness indicators. According to the author’s best knowledge, it is the first study that identifies the relationship of macroeconomic factors with the CARAMELS financial soundness indicators, which will assist the scholars, managers and policy makers of the non-life insurance industry of Pakistan to consider the significant factors

    Evidence of Market Discipline Through Operational Risk Disclosures in Commercial Banking Sector of Pakistan

    This study investigates the evidence of existence of market discipline through Operational risk disclosures under Basle Accord-II among commercial banks of Pakistan during years 2006 to 2014. Content Analysis of operational risk disclosure words is conducted to ascertain extent of market discipline. The findings indicate that the banks have growing awareness about operational risk and its disclosures. The results reveal that most of disclosures are narrative and of voluntary nature, showing existence of market discipline over study period.The results have given useful implications for risk managers to exploit risk information as risk management tool and for regulators as to how market discipline may be used in supervisory review. 

    HRM Practices and Their Impacts on the Perceived Performance of SME’s Operating in Karachi

     Abstract:Pakistan’s economy is based on SMEs and there is a strong realization of the importance of such enterprises in the country. However, such enterprises are facing challenges in its operations and development with reference to human resource effectiveness. Therefore this study explores the impact of HR practices on SMEs Perceived Performance operating in Karachi, as SMEs too require such HR practices to stay alive and uphold a competitive edge in order to get better firm performance.Sample size of this quantitative study is 443 SMEs’ owners and managers from manufacturing and service registered firms at four industrial associations. Multiple Linear Regression has been used for data analysis by the help of SPSS.Findings of this study show the influence of HRM practices on the SMEs perceived performance. The study identifies key implications for owners or managers of SME`s, in the enhancement of their firms’ performance.

    Accomplishing High Quality Assignments in CYP Post Graduate Diploma

    21st Century learner can be described as ‘technowiredcompuchildren’. This refers to youth focused inquiry based learning system offered at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). All learning systems involve the successful completion of high quality assignments indicating that the student has done additional reading beyond the course material and has made out all-out-effort towards completing assignments with ingenuity. The Commonwealth youth program (CYP), Post Graduate Diploma in ‘Youth in Development Work’ played a significant role in promoting the student’s based reading cum writing, speaking and listening skills, motivated thinking process and above capacity for critical thinking.
