An Analysis of Coincidence between KSE-100 and S&P 500 Index using Spectral Approach
When dealing with time series data, particularly of higher frequency,we are often interested in figuring out periods which are of vitalimportance. Here in this research, the returns on KSE-100 and S&P500 index are taken on daily basis from September 2001 to June 2013.As thousands of data points (due to high frequency) are considered,it is impossible for us to figure out any pattern in series, unlesssuitable filtering is applied on them. For this purpose, a powerspectrum will be made by means of a fast fourier transform. This willyield us the events that has influenced KSE-100 index considerablyin post 9/11 scenario
FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT : A CONTRIBUTING AGENT OF ECONOMIC GROWTH - STUDY OF SELECTED ASIAN COUNTRIES
It has been a self-proclaimed fact that financial development boosts economic growth in the short as well as in the long run. This particular study has taken financial development indicators from banking and secondary market perspectives into consideration. We find the banking sector more prominent and more influential in contrast to secondary markets as by revealed their coefficients. The study adopts financial deepening, foreign direct investment, banking credit to private sector, stock market size, stock market efficiency and stock market liquidity as independent variables along with economic growth as dependent variables. All the variables except banking credit to private sector have a significant and positive relationship with economic growth. Results show that financial development affects economic growth positively. Financial deepening, stock market liquidity and foreign direct investment have only one way causality while stock market size has two-way causality
ISSUES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF LONG TERM BOND MARKET IN PAKISTAN
A well developed bond market is essential for economic development. Unfortunately, in Pakistan, the bond market lacks depth and breadth, despite considerable efforts made during the financial sector reforms in the early 90s. Federal Reserve ex chairman, Alan Greenspan remarked that the developed bond market acts as a spare tire for the economy. This paper will take stock of the developments in the financial markets over the last two decades. It will identify key issues impeding the development of the long term bond market in Pakistan and produce a set of policy recommendations for a well functioning and thriving bond market in Pakistan
Integrated Use of Rational and Intuitive Decision Making Style: Modern Trends in Organizational Decision Making
The present study reviewed the literature based on a centuryof the theoretical and empirical work on decision making styles. Both in theory and research, the traditional trends limited thedecision makers to either rational or intuitive strategies in decisionmaking. Limited amount of literature emphasized on both rationalityand intuition in decision making until in the recent decades whensome researchers emphasized the use of mixed strategies in decisionmaking. Thus the present study illustrates the importance ofcombining the rational and intuitive style and using a mixed-stylein decisional scenarios. Thus the rational-intuitive and the intuitiverationalstyle double the benefits as both styles have some sharedand some other unique qualities which maximize the outcomes whenused in connection. Finally, the present study suggests a transitionfrom uni-style tradition to mixed style decision making
Student Perceptions of Textbook Layout and Learnability in Private Schools
This research is an exploratory study that investigates students’perceptions pertinent to textbook layout and organization and theirevaluation of the textbook ease of learning. The objective is to findout whether the layout dynamics of school textbooks make anydifference in students’ interest in studying or subject understanding.73 students from various private schools of Pakistan’scosmopolitan city Karachi responded to a quantitative survey thatgauged their perceptions regarding textbook components such aspaper, print, color, and textbook pedagogical features. Findingsindicate that students rank print and color above paper quality, andthat there is no particular relationship between a book layout and theactual use of textbooks

EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF LEWIS RANIS-FEI MODEL IN PAKISTAN
The study focuses on stage of Lewis Ranis-Fei model, role of capital accumulation in economic growth and impact of labour reallocation in economic development. Using time series data from 1984 to 2013 the study develops a Cobb Douglas production function of agriculture and non agriculture sector. Sectoral growth decomposition approach was used to reveal the contribution of factors of production in economic growth. Labour reallocation was estimated by labour reallocation equation to investigate its effect on economic growth. Further it also indicates the stage of economic development. The study found that the role of capital accumulation in agriculture and non agriculture sector was highly significant where as the role of labour reallocation was very low in economic development. Further the study reveals that Pakistan stands on the first stage of Lewis Ranis-Fei model where MPL is lower than APL
Exploring Perceptions of University Students Pertaining to Grades over Knowledge and Skills

Three currently enrolled participants were selectedfrom different private universities of Karachi. Participants’ interviews were examined through thematic analysis. The findings suggested that students give preference to grades and knowledge, more job oriented focusof the study and made recommendations for institutions and academicians for further probing of the issue in hand
Efficacy of Skill DevelopmentTechniques: Empirical Evidence
Making students skillful is the ultimate aim of teaching. The teacher who feel that their jobs are over once they explain and demonstrates the lesson in the class is certainly on the defective side of thinking. Rather, students must be guided towardsthe objectives of learning demonstrated through modeling, and given ample practice to handle learning independently. This paper elucidates various techniques available forskill development by studying the case of 75 students. Their views regarding learning were gathered through a questionnaire. A statistical analysis of their views was carried out, after which they were given a skill to practice through a selected technique which they considered asthe most effective technique for skill development. It was empirically concluded thatstudentslearned the skill more rapidly when they are allowed to use their initiative and judgment in a mutual practice technique of skill development. At the end, guidelines for effective skill development have been suggested which could be adopted by teacher for skill training of student
Impact of Cooperative Learning in Developing Students' Cognitive Abilities for Academic Achievement
This study used an Action Research Method to investigate ways to improve the thinking and reasoning skills of grade eight science students in an under-resourced school in Karachi. The students’ rote learning patterns were challenged using the schema provided by Blooms’ taxonomy of learning domains. A cooperative learning environment was generated with a renewed investment plan, a restructured lesson plan and an intensive workshop with the group leaders. These interventions were done with the help of the preliminary data that was collected through questionnaires. The outcomes of the action research method showed a positive correlation between cooperative learning approach and academic achievement of the students
