Exploring University Students Perceptions about Using Mobile Phone as Learning Aid
This study examined the perception of students’ in using mobilephones as a learning aid within universities in Karachi. The primeobjective of the study was to evaluate the student’s readiness andacceptance in incorporating m-learning in their learning process. For this purpose data was collected from different universities inKarachi aged between 22-40 years with a sample size of N=204. Totest the data Mobile learning survey was used, consisted of 16items with a Likert response scale providing ranges from 1-5 fromstrongly disagree to strongly agree, followed by asking their abilityto use their phones for educational purposed and later captivatingtheir idea of mobile phones integration into their classrooms. Resultsof the study showed that students’ spent plenty of time on their cellphones and they use it for a variety of applications. The results alsoindicated that they knew almost all of its function and were usingthem in their daily lives. They were already using their mobile phonesfor retrieval of information and according to them it had removedlearning barriers. However students’ were not sure if m-learningshould be incorporated into their classroom
W-Peakedness: A Simulation based Study
Kurtosis is a commonly used descriptive statistics. Kurtosis “Coefficient of excess” is critically reviewed in different aspects and is called as, measuring the fatness of the tails of the density functions, concentration towards the central value, scattering away from the target point or degree of peakedness of probability distribution. Kurtosis is referred to the shape of the distribution but many distributions having same kurtosis value may have different shapes while Kurtosis may exist when peak of a distribution is not in existence. Through extensive study of kurtosis on several distributions, Wu (2002) introduced a new measure called “W-Peakedness” that offers a fine capture of distribution shape to provide an intuitive measure of peakedness of the distribution which is inversely proportional to the standard deviation of the distribution. In this paper the work is extended for different others continuous probability distributions. Empirical results through simulation illustrate the proposed method to evaluate kurtosis by W-peakednes
Level of Inhibition in Trained Secondary School Teachers: Evidence from Pakistan
The study found that the inhibition amongst trained secondary school teachers in using learned teaching methodologies is caused due to the lack of content knowledge, insufficient support from the administration, scarce continuous professional development opportunities, unsupportive environment, large class size, in-efficiency to integrate technology, inadequate post-training support and lack of motivation. The study also concluded that teaching inhibition is not possible to be controlled by virtue of teacher’s training skills only. This study recommends that trained teachers be permitted to experiment within their permissible limits to try new teaching methodologies under supervised conditions and reflect upon them intermittently. Continuous support of the school administration is the key to successfully implementing the newly-acquired pedagogic and scholastic skills for an educational institution to improve its teacher education programme
Software Quality Assurance A Study Based on Pakistan’s Software Industry
This paper investigates the role of quality management practices in software industry of Pakistan. We present a comparison between the more-experienced and less-experienced firms with respect to the critical factors of quality management. The critical factors of quality management practices in the software industry are first identified from the literature survey and validated through an empirical study. The study attempts to probe the influence of “age of quality” and “use of software” over software quality management practices and programs. The results of the study shows that the ‘age of quality” and “use of software” have partial influence over the software quality management
Operating Performance and Financial Success: Evidence from Pakistani Companies
This paper examines the relationship between risk adjusted performance of stocks measured by Sharpe Ratio and the firm’s operating performance measured by various indicators of profitability, liquidity, leverage, and size (market capitalization). Using fixed effect panel data models this paper seeks to identify which of the operating performance factors are important indicators of stock market performance in Pakistan’s emerging market. In this regard, we have employed the data for 107 companies listed on Karachi Stock Exchange over the period of 12 years from 1996- 2007. The empirical findings show that profitability measures, especially return-on-assets and firm size have a positive and significant effect on firm’s financial success whereas leverage is negatively related to stock market performance
THE IMPACT OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND ETHICS IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS
This paper presents the impact of corporate social responsibility in the educational institutions and how the students value it and try to practice it in an academic environment. Corporate social responsibility, which is now commonly known as CSR is not something mandatory, and the biggest proof of it is the fact that there is no regulator who is monitoring the implementation of CSR in a particular country or even globally. On the contrary, a number of educational institutions are educating their students about CSR so when these students join the fresh workforce the terminology of CSR is not a misnomer to them and they can fully understand and fathom CSR from a basic as well as an advanced perspective. For this purpose a group of 4o students were selected who are undergoing the courses on CSR and corporate governance and semi structured interviews wereconducted to gather information in order to judge the impact on CSR related activities from the view point of the student community
Airline Service Quality in Pakistan – A Customer Preferences Approach
This study attempts to identify the service and value factors that are given the highest importance by passengers travelling on domestic flights in Pakistan. A survey methodology involving personal interviews with 100 passengers was used on a convenience basis to gather the required information. This methodology has yielded data which was internally consistent in previous studies even though it is a non-probabilistic sampling technique. The study resulted in the following main findings. The results show that passengers of domestic flights in Pakistan attach the highest importance to the timeliness of flights. The next service dimension in order of importance was cabin service followed by cabin crew and convenience of booking
Impact of Self-Regulation Skills on Academic Performance of Young Children in Private Schools of Karachi
This research aimed to explore if self-regulation skills had any effecton the academic outcomes of young children in private schools ofKarachi, Pakistan. Quantitative research method was used todetermine the impact of self-regulation upon the academic outcome ofyoung children by utilizing Early School Self-Regulation Scale-Care GiverVersion (Bhamani, 2012).The sample size consisted of randomlychosen 210 children, studying in grades 1 and 2 from seven differentprivate schools in Karachi. The results of the research show that selfregulationskills had a significant impact on the academic outcome ofyoung children in private schools of Karachi, b = -6.3, t (198) = 0.693,p < .01. Self-regulation skills also explained a significant proportion ofvariance in students grades, R2 = .397, F (1, 198) = 130.536, p < .01
GPS Inertial Missile Guidance System
The task of this work is to design the guidance system for themissile which would guide the missile accurately to hit the target asdirected. Guidance is the main component of the missile system whichhelps in hitting the target accurately. The missile can be guided bythe number of ways which includes by using laser, GPS infrared orradio waves on its way to the target. This paper proposes a model toguide the missile with the help of GPS and INS. This model requires acomputer or controller which should be installed in the missile tocontrol the missile flight according to the guidance provided by GPSand INS. The system works by knowing the missile current positionand the position of the target. The position of the target is known byusing Google maps which is feed in the missile controller before themissile is launched. Missile current position is known by using GPSwhile the missile current orientation and heading is known by usingINS. Missile current position is compared with the target position tocalculate the desired heading towards the target, then missilecontroller auto pilots the missile according to the desired headingtowards target to hit the target
THE IMPACT OF MOTIVATIONAL FACTORS ON ORGANIZATIONAL LEARNING: A STUDY ON EDUCATION SECTOR OF PAKISTAN
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the motivational factors that affect the organizational learning in the education sector of Pakistan. Self-administrated questionnaire with 5 point Likert scale is used for primary data collection and research journals and articles are used for secondary data collection. The sample size of the study is consisted of hundred academic employees of different educational institutes of Lahore. SPSS is used for measuring the relationships between variables and interpretations of their relationship. Organizational learning mainly depends upon peer cooperation motivational factor. As the peer cooperation increases in an organization, it leads the organization towards learning. Peer cooperation has a strong effect on organizational learning as a motivational factor in the education sector. A high level of peer cooperation in any organization helps in enhancing its learning. Furthermore, according to data analysis all other motivational factors used in this study i.e. working condition, recognition and reward has very small or no effect on learning of any organization. So, we can conclude that, among four different motivational factors i.e. peer cooperation, working condition, recognition and rewards, only peer cooperation has a strong relationship with organizational learning as compared to other factors
