IMPACT OF LIGHTING AS A VISUAL MERCHANDISING TOOL ON CONSUMER’S PURCHASE BEHAVIOUR
Get PDFThe importance of visual merchandising cannot be ignored in this era where many purchase decisions are influenced by displays and presentations in store. This study is conducted to know the effect of lighting as a subject matter of visual merchandising in attracting consumers towards a specific area and products in store and recording their behaviour. Before and after design method of experimentation was used to know the impact of lighting in attracting consumers towards the product and specific location at the garment store. This study concluded positive effect of using light to divert consumer attention towards illuminated areas and products and the increase in shoppers traffic was also recorded. However the study also found no impact on sales of the merchandise displayed in the illuminated area of the garment store
Digital Speech Interpolation Advantage of Statistical Time Division Multiplexer
Get PDFThis paper discusses Digital Speech Interpolation (DSI) advantage of Statistical Time Division Multiplexer (STDM) for Random Packet Loss scenarios. In order to harness this advantage each source speech is compressed at 6.4 kbps, Voice Activity Detector (VAD) is used for each source, and packet loss mechanism is introduced to achieve maximum DSI advantage. It is observed that for maximum of 9 users channel capacity, extra 3 users, i.e. total 12 users can be accommodated with 3% speech frame losses, which results in an advantage of 12/9 = 1.33
Differential Image Compression for Telemedicine: A Novel Approach
Get PDFTelemedicine is one of the most emerging technologies of applied medical sciences. Medical information related to patients is transmitted and stored for references and consultations. Medical images occupy huge space; in order to transmit these images may delay the process of image transmission in critical times. Image compression techniques provide a better solution to combat bandwidth scarcity problems, and transmit same image in a much lower bandwidth requirements, more faster and at the same time maintain quality. In this paper a differential image compression method is developed in which medical images are taken from a wounded patient and are compressed to reduce the bit rate of these images. Results indicate that on average 25% compression on images is achieved with 3.5 MOS taken from medical doctors and other paramedical staff the ultimately user of the images

Estimation of Consumption Functions: The Case of Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka
Get PDFThe study uses annual data from 1971 to 2013 and appliesKeynesian Consumption Function (KCF) and the PermanentIncome Hypothesis (PIH) in order to estimate consumption functionsof SAARC countries. The empirical results show that in the shortrun, the difference between KCF and PIH under Marginal Propensityto Consume (MPCs) is quite large. This difference, therefore,indicates that in the short run consumers’ consumption decisionare based on current income. However, another point worth notingis that, in the short run smaller values of MPCs under the PIHindicate that consumers are unable to anticipate their future incomein developing countries, like Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistanand Sri Lanka. Moreover, the study also estimates the MPCs underthe PIH in the long run. The results demonstrate that in the long runthe values of MPCs are higher than the MPCs while using PIH,which indicates that in the long run consumers anticipate theirfuture income and accordingly make consumption decisions on thebasis of permanent income
ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE STRESSORS AND OUTCOMES: MODERATING ROLE OF ORGANIZATIONAL SOCIAL SUPPORT

The present research examined the moderating effect of social support between role stressors and outcomes. Sample consisted of 300 paramedics from 20 districts of Khyber Puhktoonkhwa (KPK) collected through stratified random sampling design. Organizational Role Stressor Scale Social Support Scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory, Job Satisfaction Scale and Organizational Commitment Questionnaire were used. Moderating Regression analysis revealed significant effect of organization stressors on outcomes among paramedics. The current investigation has applied value for the paramedics working in health institutions
UNVEILING THE PERCEIVED GENDER INEQUITY: AN ANALYSIS OF THE INDIVIDUAL VERSUS ORGANIZATIONAL-LEVEL PREDICTORS
Get PDFKeeping the view of existence of gender inequity in workplace that disregards the rationale of equal dealing with all workers, the present study explored the contribution of factors associated with individual and organizations in construction of perception of gender inequity among teachers. A sample of 341 college teachers provided data on Perceived Gender Inequity Scale and filled the information sheet for individual and organizational-level predictors. Results reveal that college teachers perceived gender inequity in their colleges and female teachers perceived higher gender inequity privileging males as compared to be male teachers we find organizational-level variables as a group highly predictive for perceived gender inequity than individual predictors. Individual predictors as one group explicated smaller variance, with gender, age, education, and marital status (except for job status and job experience) yielding a substantial impact in the predicted direction
MACRO ECONOMY AND PROFITABILITY OF INSURANCE COMPANIES: A POST CRISIS SCENARIO IN PAKISTAN
Get PDFThis paper uses firm level data of 39 companies of insurance industry of Pakistan for the period 2006-11. The findings of this study suggest that based on overall regression results, macroeconomic environment, equity market conditions and inflation have a positive and significant impact on profitability of insurance companies in Pakistan. This is also true for non-life insurance companies. However, significance and signs of the coefficients of firm-specific characteristics and macroeconomic variables vary across life, non-life and takaful insurance companies on account of varying nature of their clientele and coverage of insurance policies. Corporate managers of life insurance companies should especially focus on exploring opportunities for growth and diversification and management of underwriting risk and investment portfolios in view of changing equity market conditions. Financial strength, firm size and financial leverage cannot be ignored in profitability management of life insurance companies. The management of non-life insurance companies should also keep in view the macroeconomic environment, equity market conditions, inflation in addition to firm specific characteristics including financial leverage, relative firm size, financial soundness, growth opportunities, underwriting risk and diversification in particular to manage profitability. The takaful business managers should especially focus on underwriting risk, diversification and working capital management to manage their return on asset
