An examination of processes that influence outcomes of inter-professional collaboration in psychiatric care
Get PDFThis study intended to examine the process factors influencing the outcomes of inter-professional collaboration in psychiatric care. Through a questionnaire assessing teamwork in inter-professional collaboration in psychiatric care, 35 psychiatric nurses were interviewed and 44 cases were analyzed. The results of factor analysis showed that the process was characterized by four factors: team cohesiveness, appropriate decision making, lack of collaboration, and lack of communication. The outcome consisted of two factors: subjective satisfaction and outcome evaluation. The results of correlation analysis between the process and outcome showed moderate positive correlations between team cohesiveness and subjective satisfaction, outcome evaluation, and all eight outcome items. A multiple regression analysis revealed that appropriate decision making had a positive impact on team cohesiveness, while poor cooperation and communication had a negative impact. Since there was only a moderate correlation between the outcome
of inter-professional collaboration and the process, it is possible that factors other than the process may have influenced the outcome.departmental bulletin pape
