Architecture of Coastal Rural Houses in Thai Binh Province, Vietnam for Adaptation to Climate Change and Sea-Level Rise
In Thai Binh province, Vietnam, according to the RC4.5 climate change scenario by the end of the 21st century, sea levels are projected to rise by a maximum of 100 cm. This will result in the flooding of 22,313 hectares (66.13%) of Tien Hai District, 21,750 hectares (64.39%) of Kien Xuong District, and 26,756 hectares (47.94%) of Thai Thuy District. Such a rise in sea levels will significantly impact residential areas, housing, and agricultural production in the coastal villages of Thai Binh Province.
The article\u27s aim is to propose architectural models for rural housing in these coastal hazard areas, allowing communities to adapt to climate change and sea-level rise. The goal is to help coastal residents continue living with inundation while ensuring a good quality of life and sustainable working conditions.
The study uses field survey methods, document collection, data analysis, evaluation and computer simulation based on actual sea level rise to propose housing solutions. The article contributes proposes housing and shelter models for communities affected by rising sea levels, including houses with horizontally integrated shelter spaces in estuary areas, as well as houses with raised platforms and those integrating vertical shelter spaces in alluvial land areas
Preserving The Environment and Rural Community in Sabah Through the Empowerment of Gravity-Flow Water Systems: A Survey Based on APPGM-SDG Solution Projects
The gradual increase in the world’s population has caused the demand for domestic water resources to rise as well. In certain situations, existing water treatment plants cannot cope with the high demand of residents. Hence, to avoid a water supply crisis, the community should not entirely rely on one type of water supply (treated tap water supply). Instead, there should be an alternative water supply source in preparation for overcoming a potential water supply crisis. The gravity-flow water system is an efficient technique that has long been implemented in the rural communities of Sabah. Accordingly, this research examines the suitability of the gravity-flow water system implemented in rural areas by focusing on its advantages in preserving the environment and community. Raw data in the form of site visits (SV), focus group discussions (FGD), project proposals, monthly reports and the final report obtained from APPGM-SDG Solution Projects are used to achieve the objective. The study results revealed that the villagers’ implementation of the gravity-flow water system in several rural areas in Sabah (Kg. Sayap, Kg. Bakuku & Kg. Tanobon Baru) can preserve the environment by sustaining rivers and river basins. Apart from that, the implementation of gravity-flow water systems can also reduce the economic burden of villagers who, on average, have a low economic status. Indirectly through this study also found that there is a great need for technical skills and vocational training (TVET). By empowering TVET indirectly, there is potential for the development of gravity water systems, especially in terms of ideal design
Analysis and Mapping of Technical Competency Needs for TVET Teachers in the Era of Industry 4.0
Vocational education in Indonesia still faces challenges, especially regarding limited teacher access to technical competency training due to industry needs. This study aims to map and analyze the access of Vocational High School (SMK) teachers to technical training in 10 areas of expertise in West Java. The method used is quantitative descriptive with a survey of 356 productive teachers from a population of 3,254. Measurement of technical competency refers to the Indonesian National Qualification Framework (KKNI) Level IV Certification Scheme. The study results show that teacher access to training is still low, with only 32.4% of 130 competency units accessed. Training organized by the government through the Center for the Development of Vocational Education Quality Assurance (BBPPMPV) has only been accessed by 19.4% of teachers, while 13% accessed training independently. Digital competency is the skill with the lowest achievement in all areas of expertise. This low access to training impacts the skills gap between teachers and industry needs, which has implications for the readiness of SMK graduates to face the world of work. These findings emphasize the need for an upskilling model based on industry needs involving government, industry, and training institutions. Increasing the frequency and quality of training can be done through industry-based schemes, digital platforms, and blended learning. In addition, strategic policies that ensure equal access to training for teachers in various regions are important to improve the quality of vocational education. This step is expected to improve the skills of productive vocational school teachers so that they are more relevant to technological developments and industry demands
The Effects of Flipped Learning on Student Achievement and Interest Across Different Learning Styles in Polytechnic Education
Flipped learning is designed to encourage students to be more active and be able to give more accurate answers. In addition, students will face fewer problems with their learning if they control their learning patterns. Hence, this study aims to identify the difference in the level of score achievement and interest of polytechnic students based on their learning styles. This research instrument consists of a questionnaire about interests and Index Learning Styles (ILS), ii) an e-learning guidebook, and iii) pre-test and post-test questions. MANCOVA analysis was used to answer the question to determine whether there was an increase in the level of student achievement and interest. The results of the MANCOVA analysis for the four breakdowns of student categories, PA-IV, PA-IA, PR-IV, and PR-IA, show no significant difference for the treatment and control groups. The use of the flipped learning method for the treatment group did not show an optimal effect, especially for their academic achievement and interest. This is because using the flipped learning method only takes eight (8) weeks. After looking into more details, if this method\u27s flipped learning application for an extended period, the possibility of changes in academic achievement and student interest can be seen more significantly. However, to some extent, using this flipped learning method in the teaching and learning activity can improve academic achievement and student interest to be more outstanding and positive, especially for Electrical Technology courses
Assessing Water Quality in the Kelantan River Basin Using WQI: Suspended Solids and Ecosystem Health
Water quality in the Kelantan River Basin was assessed in this study using the Water Quality Index (WQI). The Department of Environment Malaysia provided secondary data for this study with seven sampling locations along the Kelantan River Basin. WQI consists of parameters Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxidant Demand (COD), Ammonia Nitrogen (NH3-N), Suspended Solids (SS) and pH. For each sampling station, other WQI parameters did not exceed the threshold value except SS with a medium value of 235.50 mg/L. Krukal Walis test showed that these parameters were found to be significantly different (ρ < 0.05) between sampling station locations. Based on calculation, the SS sub-index value show 16.7% were classified as clean, 2.4% as slightly polluted and 81.0% as polluted for the entire study period. WQI SS sub-index recorded 46 which are in the Polluted category. Suspended solids are the result of several processes, including river runoff and dredging. Clay is among the inorganic and organic materials that make up it. Excessive levels can bind nutrients and heavy metals, increase water temperature, and degrade water quality. The health of the river basin ecosystem was in Class II water quality determined by the average WQI of 84 at all stations. This study concluded that extensive land development activities in the surrounding areas are affecting water quality, thereby affecting the health of the Kelantan River Basin ecosystem in relation to suspended solids
Energy Profile and Building Energy Index (BEI) for Malaysian Public University: A Case Study of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM)
Energy consumption is steadily increasing in emerging nations like Malaysia, driven by economic growth and the expansion of both commercial and residential sectors. The government has implemented various measures to ensure optimal and efficient building energy use. One such measure is the MS1525 standard, which evaluates a building’s energy efficiency as a benchmark for compliance with existing regulations. This study examines the Building Energy Index (BEI) of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) at the Parit Raja, Batu Pahat campus to determine whether the buildings meet standard BEI requirements. The study\u27s objectives were achieved by collecting data on monthly energy consumption and selected buildings\u27 gross floor area, and then calculating the BEI to ensure accurate results. A preliminary audit involved a quick assessment of building and utility operations, site observations, and facility tours. Additionally, general audits provided more detailed insights into building operations, helping to identify the primary sources of energy consumption. According to the findings, the BEI for UTHM buildings ranges from 57 to 65 kWh/m²/year—significantly lower than the recommended BEI benchmark of 200 kWh/m²/year, as specified by Malaysian Standards and the guidelines for Malaysian green government buildings. However, fluctuations in the university\u27s energy consumption, influenced by factors such as semester breaks and the presence of multipurpose buildings, suggest the need for an adjusted method of BEI computation. A refined approach would provide more accurate BEI benchmarks tailored to public universities
The Evaluation of the Cylindrical Accuracy in Bore Honing of EN-GJL-250 Lamellar Cast Iron
The study of the different parameters, which describe the shape accuracy of the machined parts is important on functionally significant surfaces. The cylindrical accuracy is an essential characteristic of the machined bores of internal combustion engine blocks. The aim of the ongoing study is to explore the relationship between the shape error of the produced inner cylindrical surfaces and the setting parameters in honing. The results contribute to a wider understanding of the achievable precision of the examined finishing process by examining the relationships that have not been determined so far. In this paper, four parameters describing the cylindrical error after the honing procedure are analysed on EN-GJL-250 lamellar cast iron workpieces. The 23 factorial design is applied in the planning of experiments. Two levels of grain size, feed rate and pressure between the workpiece and the honing tool were chosen for the comprehensive analysis of the internal cylindrical honing process. The values of cylindricity, the valley maximum departure, the peak maximum departure and the cylinder taper are measured by the application of a Talyrond 365 accuracy measuring equipment. Equations were determined for the calculation of the studied parameters according to the full factorial design method. The results were evaluated in three steps: first the main effect of the process parameters are determined, then the presented equations are validated through control experiments. Finally, the detailed analysis of the results showed the alteration of the cylindrical correctness in function of the different parameters.
The Effects of Government Support, Social Support, and Self-Efficacy on Digital Business Performance: The Mediation Analysis of Social Media Adoption
Digital business is carried out using the Internet, providing many benefits to merchants and buyers. Business can be done 24 hours a day because the Internet is always present in human life and does not limit things like culture, race, distance, time, and country. Based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and guided empirical observations, this paper examines the determinants of predicting the performance of young entrepreneurs in digital business. This research uses primary data, where survey data are collected from 384 young entrepreneurs in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The data analysis is based on structural equation modeling (SEM), operated with the IBM SPSS AMOS 26 program. The results found that the performance is driven by government support, social support, self-efficacy, and social media adoption. Second, social media adoption mediates the relationship between governmental support, social support, self-efficacy, and digital business performance. Therefore, it is hoped that this discussion will help the academic and practical fields understand this phenomenon and be used as a guide by policymakers to review the national digital business ecosystem and mechanism to further the development of young entrepreneurs. Technology has helped entrepreneurs reach the future of their business more efficiently and take the name of the business to a global level
Artificial Intelligence in Investment: Analysing Variations, Functions and Market Impact
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the investment domain has gained significant traction, yet the existing body of research remains fragmented, lacking a cohesive understanding of AI\u27s varied forms, functions, and broader market implications. This study addresses this gap by systematically reviewing and consolidating scattered insights on AI applications in investment, organizing them into a structured and comprehensive framework for better understanding. Through a systematic review methodology, it categorizes 12 distinct AI variations based on their specific functions, including predictive analytics for market forecasting, automated trading systems, stock screening tools, and automated technical analyses. The market impact of AI is deductively analyzed based on a thorough understanding of its capabilities, definitions, and functionalities, revealing that while AI enhances trading performance through improved efficiency, accuracy, and liquidity, it also introduces challenges such as increased market volatility and potential marginalization of smaller investors, favoring larger institutions. By synthesizing fragmented literature into a cohesive reference, this study provides a clear and comprehensive understanding of AI\u27s diverse functions in investment activities and their broader market implications. It offers critical insights for scholars and practitioners, advancing the discourse on equitable AI adoption and sustainable market practices. This research not only serves as a valuable reference for understanding AI in investment but also lays the groundwork for future innovations and policy interventions in the field
The Impact of Stakeholder-Oriented Organisational Management Model on Organisational Performance: A Case Study of Chinese Retail Enterprises
This study investigates the impact of a stakeholder oriented management model on organizational performance using DL Donglai Quality, a well-known retail company in China. Based on stakeholder theory and the service profit chain model, this study analyzes the role of high employee care strategy and customer focus strategy in improving organizational performance. The study explored the mediating effect of employee care and customer oriented strategy as independent variables, organizational performance as dependent variable, and employee satisfaction and customer loyalty as mediating variables. Through an online structured questionnaire survey of 490 randomly selected employees and 533 customers, Likert scale was used for quantitative analysis, and combined with company reports and academic literature, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, regression analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) were applied to analyze the data. The results show that high employee care and customer-centered strategy significantly improve employee satisfaction, customer loyalty and organizational performance (p< 0.000***), and employee satisfaction and customer loyalty play a significant mediating role in this process. The research verifies the applicability of stakeholder theory and service profit chain model in the retail industry, continues the development of related theories, provides valuable empirical evidence for the global retail industry, and provides favorable support for enterprises that want to adopt stakeholder management mode, helping enterprises to achieve sustainable development
