DARI ARCA KE ARJA: ADAPTASI PANJI DALAM PERTUNJUKAN ARJA DI BALI

    No full text
Panji stories that were spread throughout Indonesia and Southeast Asia were not only known as old literature. Panji stories were also sculpted as the reliefs on temples in East Java. The existence of the text shows the historical facts that form the basis for the emergence of the Panji stories. Panji figure could be a manifestation of the life of kings in the past. The presence of papyrus, relief, and also stage performance that tell the story of Panji showed that there is a correlation among literature, relief, and performance, in the realm of art creation. Are Panji stories stay preserved as part of the development of art in Indonesia? Arja performances in Bali could describe how Panji stories can still be traced. Arja's performance used Panji stories as a source. Now Arja is existence can still be seen through its variety of plays. However, this does not make the panji story disappear in the Arja's performance. This issue will be addressed as a consequence of the adaptation of the revolving art. Not only in the present, but in the past a pattern of adaptation that can transpose works from different disciplines has already emerged. Panji stories can be known through papyrus, relief, and performances. Today it is still going without being recognized

REKONSTRUKSI ASPEK BIOLOGIS DAN KONTEKS BUDAYA RANGKA MANUSIA HOLOSEN, SONG KEPLEK 5

The Song Keplek 5 (SK5) specimen was found in 1998 at the Song Keplek site, located in the Gunung Sewu (Southern Mountains) karst region, East Java. SK5 is a burial dated within direct sample with an AMS date from its fragments bones of c. 3053 ± 65 calBP (AA96775). This paper will discuss the archaeological and biological context of SK 5. Biological information includes estimation of age, sex determination, height, and any indicators of systemic pathology. Discussion of archaeological context will include cultural practices during this individual’s life, and subsequent funerary practices post-mortem. This exploration of the cultural and biological context of SK 5 will not only begin to flesh out an “osteobiography†for this individual, but also improve our understanding of living conditions during the mid Holocene in Java, in the time of early Austronesian occupation in this island

Study of Neolithic settlement pattern in Ranu Grati area at Pasuruan-East Java is a part of research series on the ancient settlements at the lakes area in East Java, conducted by author since 2008. Research has been csttied out every year in a row starting from Ranu Klakah, Ranu Gedang, Ranu Segaran, Ranu Bethok, and Ranu Grati. Eventhough in its early stage of research, the results are quite promising, both geoarchaeological and archaeological landscape as well as its artifactual data. Lake terraces as geo-archaeological data and artifacts such as pottery sherds, net-sinkers, and Neolithic adze are evidences of settlement in Grati Lake area

INDONESIAN AND PACIFIC ISLAND PALAEOECOLOGY GAUGING THE IMPACT OF PREHISTORIC SETTLEMENT

    No full text
Anthropogenic optimal foraging models have provided a theoretical foundation for evaluating fluctuations in human resource use, thereby providing archaeology with a platform to present various theories on prehistoric island resource exploitation and habitat alteration. This paper cross-examines three major elements of remains found in island assemblages: those being avifauna, marine fauna, and palaeobotanical remains (from Henderson Island, American Samoa and Hawaii, and eastern Indonesia respectively). In doing so, the sequence of prehistoric resource depression or extinction should be readily identified through this anthropogenic behaviour. However, the Polynesian faunal assemblages shed more light on anthropogenic impact than the palaeobotanical record from Indonesia. Nevertheless, as a comparative study, this information provides a framework for present-day management and the potential restoration of these island ecosystems

TEMUAN UANG KEPENG GAMBANGAN DESA GAMBANGAN, KECAMATAN MAESAN KABUPATEN BONDOWOSO, JAWA TIMUR: HASIL KAJIAN AWAL DAN POTENSI PEMANFAATANNYA

This article is a result of an early study of the finding of ancient coins in Gambangan site, Bondowoso Regency, East Java. Based on the findings of the ancient coins and other artifacts, it is assumed that Gambangan site contains a small numbers of archaeological data and its distribution is limited as well. Gambangan site is supposed as a simple settlement site or non permanent settlement site closely related to Majapahit Kingdom. An early study on Gambangan site has described the potentials of the findings in academic field and in the utilization of development such as research materials, education materials and as part of tourist development

Feasibility study and archaeological research had been arranged as the object of cultural law (UU No. 5 Tahun 1992) and government regulation (PP No. 10 Tahun 1993) about the implementation of object of cultural law (UU No. 5 Tahun 1992). However, feasibility study related to archaeological research is still rarely conducted. This paper aims to set forth the relevancy of feasibility study as a preliminary activity to reach a more comprehensive archaeological research

DIMORFISME SEKSUAL DALAM KARAKTERISTIK EPIGENETIS UPPER VISCEROCRANIUM DARI SAMPEL TENGKORAK MANUSIA GILIMANUK (BALI)

    No full text
The practical relevance of this research is that it enables us to be able to recognize or distinguish male and female upper viscerocrani by qualitative methods, especially from paleoanthropological and archaeological human remains which are more commonly found in fractured, brittle and poorly preserved conditions. Research on the Gilimanuk skull sample shows that the epigenetic characteristics of the palatinal foramen size (depth), the degree of expression of the palatine torus, the degree of expression of the maxillary torus, the strength of the tubercular marginale projection and the size (depth) of the zygomaticofasiale foramen can help determine the sex of the individual, regardless of racial factors, changes. age and environment. &nbsp

From several sources obtained regarding the existence of the Dutch fort in Sumenep, it appears that there were various events that occurred during the usage of the fort. In addition, there are several conflicting matters which still require further explanation. Various sources say that at first the Sumenep fortress had both military and civilian functions, which is evident from the mention of the fort as the residence of the Dutch trade representatives, although in the end the fort only functioned militarily, namely by adding troops who protected the fort and the appointment of a lieutenant as commander. There was also resistance to the British, which probably involved the fort as a means of defense. &nbsp
