Design of Sliding Correlator Channel Sounder for Ionospheric Channel Probing Based on Software Define Radio
Observation of wireless channel using channel sounder method is needed in order to obtain the channel characteristics in the form of delay spread (Tm) and doppler spread (fD) parameters for optimizing the design of digital communication systems. This also applies to the ionosphere channels which are known to have dynamic properties in the time and place domains. The Sliding Correlator Channel Sounder technique known as a popular technique due to the advantage in the low level of complexity and relatively low cost. Similar to the advantages of the sliding correlator technique, Software Define Radio (SDR) device is one of the popular inexpensive platforms for implementing the communication system into the real world. The implementation of the sliding correlator channel sounder technique in the SDR platform will increase the advantages of the ionosphere channel measurement system that needed as an effort to obtain the dynamic of ionospheric channel characteristic information. However, the process of implementing a sliding correlator channel sounder system into the SDR device requires precise calculations to guarantee the designed system able to works according to the specifications of the SDR device and also meet the system performance targets. This paper discusses the design of a sliding correlator channel sounder system for observing the characteristics of ionosphere channels using SDR devices. The system design starts with the process of calculating the clock frequency generator bit (fchirp) based on the system performance target which refers to the recommendation of the ionospheric channel characteristics based on ITU-R F.1487 documents. Parallel with the calculation of the fchirp, the calculation of the Pseudo Noise (PN) bit length (L) based on the Dynamic Range (DR) value that meets with the specifications of the SDR hardware also carried out. Based on the obtained fchirp and L values, the calculation of other sliding correlator channel sounder parameters is performed with a limitation of a hardware specification and the target system performance. MATLAB simulation results show that the expected system performance can be met. This systems can also be realized significantly through the results of real signal transmission experiments conducted in a closed room laborator
Aplikasi Metode Consistent Fuzzy Preference Relations Dalam Evaluasi Model Pentarifan Interkoneksi Berbasis Internet Protokol
Berhadasarkan pengolahan data, model Pentarifan Interkoneksi Berbasis Internet Protokol yang paling disarankan adalah Bottom up -Long Run Average Incremental Cost (BU-LRAIC). Hal ini dikarenakan model tersebut memenuhi kriteria sangat baik dan fair secara teknikal, ekonomi maupun dampak social yang dihasilkan
LPWA-based IoT Technology Selection for Smart Metering Deployment in Urban and Sub Urban Areas: A State Electricity Company Perspective
The need for LPWA-based Internet of Things (IoT) technology for deploying smart metering services is rapidly growing for its ability to manage energy usage in real-time and increase efficiency. However, the problem faced by electric utility companies is how to choose the most appropriate technology. This study uses a techno-economic approach to compare the two most widely used technological alternatives, namely establishing LoRaWAN as a non-licensed LPWA technology or leasing NB-IoT as a licensed LPWA technology owned by a telecommunications operator. Case studies conducted in the urban area of Bandung and sub-urban city of Tasikmalaya as an example of a typical town in Indonesia. The results showed that LoRaWAN and NB-IoT are both technically and business feasible to be implemented with their respective advantages. LoRaWAN is superior in battery lifetime, business model, speed of implementation, and total costs, whereas NB-IoT is superior in range, capacity, quality of service, security, and ecosystem support. Using PLN's perspective as a national electricity company in Indonesia, LoRaWAN has a Net Present Value of 23% higher than NB-IoT in the 10th year
A Feasibility Analysis of the Use of IEEE 802.11ah to extend 4G Network Coverage
The 4G LTE network has been launched in many countries including Indonesia, and all telecommunications operators are competing to expand their service coverage. Due to various reasons, there are a lot of areas that remains uncovered by the 4G LTE network. With the increase in cellular traffic, operators must continue to improve their service coverage. One of the scenarios to expand the service coverage is by offloading the traffic to a more cost-effective 802.11ah network in which one 802.11ah access point can serve thousands of mobile devices and support the Machine-to-Machine (M2M)/Internet of Things (IoT) communication. This study simulates the effect of the number of nodes on MCS performance evaluation of the 802.11ah protocol. The simulation is conducted by utilizing NS3 software to evaluate the throughput, delay, packet delivery ratio and energy consumption. This study also simulates 802.11ah coverage prediction to expand the LTE networks by utilizing Atoll Radio Planning Software. The results show that the performance obtained by varying the number of nodes/users from 100 to 1000 nodes is technically acceptable. In addition, the service coverage of 802.11ah network can solve the problem of blank spot area
Comparison of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Performances in Various Network Topologies
VoIP is a digital communication technology that is currently developing because VoIP can be implemented on several network topologies, such as bus, star, and ring. Each of these topologies has advantages and disadvantages. So, a study is required to find out in which topology can VoIP be implemented optimally. In this research, VoIP is implemented in several topologies and furthermore the performance measurements are carried out for each topology. VQ manager is installed in order to measure the VoIP performance. For the server, we used Elastix and for the node implementation network topologies, we use several access points. From the results of the research, the performance of VoIP implemented in the star topology produces QoS that is better than other topologies with a delay value of 185 ms, 18 ms jitter, and 1% packet loss. This happens because in the star topology, all packets are distributed centrally. It is expected that the results of this research can be used as a reference in the application of VoIP technology in several types of topologies
System Integration for Medical Data Dissemination and Multimedia Communication in the Implementation of Tele-ECG and Teleconsultation
One of the options to extend medical services coverage is deploying a telemedicine system, where medical personnel make use of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) to overcome distance and time constraints. The implementation of telemedicine systems in Indonesia faces challenges posed by the lack of ICT infrastructure availability, such as communication networks, data centres, and other computing resources. To deal with these challenges, a telemedicine innovation needs to produce a modular and flexible system that is adaptive to medical services needed and the available ICT infrastructure. This paper presents research and development of a telemedicine system prototype for tele-electrocardiography (tele-ECG) and teleconsultation. The contributions offered are integrating system from various open-source modules and the system operational feasibility based on its function and performance. The research is conducted on a testbed which represents various components involved in the telemedicine system operation. Experiments are carried out to assess the system functionality and observe whether tele-ECG and teleconsultation reach their expected performance. Experiment results show that the system works properly and recommend several multimedia communication modes to achieve the target quality based on the available network bandwidth
Underwater Data Transmission Using Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) Modulation with Bit Rate of 2400 bps
Underwater acoustic communication is a technology that uses sound or acoustic waves and water as its propagation medium. This technology has been used in various fields, such as underwater wireless sensor networks, underwater monitoring system, and surveillance systems. An acoustic modem is required to facilitate communication between nodes. In this paper, an underwater acoustic modem using Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) modulation has been designed. This modulation is widely used because of its reliability and simple design. FSK modem was designed using M=2 level or known as Binary FSK (BFSK) with 40 kHz mark frequency and 43 kHz space frequency. This study tested data packets sending and its error rate against the distance variation. Testing for 70-bit data resulted in 1% error at 100 cm distance and 37% error at 170 cm distance. When compared with the previous testing at 1200 bps which resulted in 0% and 35% error, it can be seen that error at 1200 bps is better than at 2400 bps, but the data transmission was better at 2400 bps. Addition to the number of bits sent and distance has an influence on the error value, i.e. the greater the distance and the amount of data sent, the greater the error value
