Analysis of water quality using physico-chemical parameters for water samples from Kanyakumari district, India
This Paper deals with the Physico - chemical Parameters for five water samples from Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu. Monthly Changes in Physical and Chemical Parameters Such as Water Taste, Turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids, pH, Total hardness, Conductivity for a period of one year from October2014 to September2015. All Parameters were within the permissible limits. The results indicate that the water in the five stations are Non-polluted and can be used for Domestic, Irrigation and Fisheries
Vanadium pincer complex: synthesis, characterization, catalysis and biological studies
New vanadium coordinated pincer complex is synthesized and characterized. Coordinating organic ligand (L1) is designed to afford ONO coordination mode. Metal complex (ML1) prepared by reacting VO(acac)2 with 2-hydroxy-3,5-ditertiarybutyl benzaldehyde and o-aminophenol in methanol (where acac stands for acetylacetonate). Ligand (L1) coordinates the central vanadium metal atom via ONO fashion hence occupied three coordination sites. For charge compensation vanadium retains one of the acetyl aetonate ligand and finally sixth coordination satisfied by terminal oxo group consequently attains octahedral geometry. This pincer type coordinated ligand provides strong meridonial environment to the metal center and also support to stabilize the higher oxidation state of vanadium. The complex is characterized by available analytical techniques such as Molar Conductance, UV-visible, IR, Cyclic Voltametry (CV), and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). Biological behavior has been investigated towards antibacterial activity. The complex also successfully utilized as catalyst for the simple organic transformation
Statistical Analysis of Foreign Rice Phenotypes under Different Seasons of the Philippines
Korean rice is a foreign genetic resources in the Philippines that has to be characterized for its proper germplasm utility. Ten Korean phenotypes were analyzed using correlation, clustering and principal component analyses (PCA) based on the 13 traits viz., culm length (CL), days to 50% flowering (D50F), days to maturity (DM), filled grains per panicle (FGP), flag leaf length (FLL), flag leaf width (FLW), grain length (GL), grain width (GW), grain yield (GY), plant height (PH), productive tillers (PT), spikelet fertility SF) and thousand grain weight (TGW) under different seasons of the Philippines. It was found out that Korean phenotypes had earlier D50F and DM, shorter PH and CL, more PT, FGP and SF, and higher GY under dry than wet season. Each season had three groups based on the clustering analysis with a pattern of group 1 having phenotypes with heavy TGW, early D50F and DM, short PH and FLL; and more FGP, SF and GY; group 2 having long CL, wide FLW, light TGW; and late D50F and DM; and group 3 having short CL, narrow FLW and low PT. Correlation in FGP, PT and SF to GY was consistently high positive (r≥0.68) in two seasons. Also, PCA consistently showed that GY, PH and PT were the highest contributor of variation with an average of 21.42% in two seasons. Korean GY therefore was highly variable but attaining higher GY can be possible by utilizing grain-filling (FGP and SF) and productive tillering (PT) traits as selection indices in the breeding program
Study of Anthocyanin Content, Antioxidant Property, UV Absorbance & SPF Analysis of A Few Petals
Herbal medicine has been commonly used over the years for treatment and prevention of diseases and health promotion as well as for enhancement of the life span and quality of life. It is a well-known fact that Traditional Systems of medicine always played an important role in meeting the global health care needs. Herbal cosmetics use phytochemicals from variety of plants. The botanical ingredients present influence biological functions of skin and provides nutrients necessary for healthy skin. Skin care is major problem faced by many people due to increase in pollution and other factors. The aim of this study was to determine the Anthocyanin content, Antioxidant property, UV Absorbance & Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of few petals namely, Rose, Bougainvillea, Chrysanthemum, Dahlia, Marigold and Ixora. It was found that dry ethanolic and aqueous extracts of Dahlia, Chrysanthemum and Rose has high anthocyanin content and SPF value above 30 compared to other flower petals. Skin cream was prepared using aqueous extract of these three petals. Lavender oil was used for fragrance. Survey was conducted through questionnaire. Though many plants are known to cure various diseases, knowledge of traditional medicine used by communities in India has been lost due to lack of documentation. Hence efforts were made to visit villages in Karnataka & Mumbai to collect data of plants used for primary health care
Rescue of distressed elephants in Southern India, A case studies of threats to wild elephants caused by human development activities and intervention
Elephas maximus indicus, an endangered herbivore is a single extant species inIndiawith a vital role in any ecosystem in which it survives. Conservation of elephants inIndiais the need of the hour as they are the keystone species capable to stop the progression of grassland to woodlands or thicket by weeding out the trees and shrubs. The size of the herbivore makes it difficult for the conservation management issues like human-elephant conflict or rescue operations in case of distressed elephants. In this paper we have reported four case studies in which rescue operations has yielded success by the appropriate sequence of physical methods. Though there are notable difference in the situations, effective planning and execution of the rescue operation based on the elephant in distress and the topology has made each rescue case a unique operation and hence we have discussed the specific determinants in each case and the operational procedure which would give success in each cases
Phytochemical and medicinal properties on Strychnos-nux-vomica (L)
Strychnos nux-vomica L. (Loganiaceae) is a deciduous tree that grows in tropical areas and is distributed throughout India and Southeast Asia. The dried seed of this plant S. nux vomica has been applied clinically in Chinese medicine for hundreds of years. S. nuxvomica is a non edible tree with a strong content of two poisonous alkaloids, strychnine and brucine. S. nux-vomica which belongs to the family loganiaceaalso called Kanjiram is a medium-sized tree. Other names of S. nux-vomica are Kanjiram, Kuchla, Kupilu. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of alkaloid, carbohydrate, tannin, steroid, triterpenoid and glycoside in the extract. Seeds of Nux vomica used as nervine tonic, alexiteric, aphrodisiac, anthelmintic, digestive, purgative and stimulant. Detoxified S. Nux vomica seeds used in various Ayurvedic drugs like Agnitundi vati, Navjeevan Rasa and vishatinduka vati as an important ingredient. Evaluation of Active RT-PCR (NS1 Ag Assay) Compound for Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (Aedes aegypti sp).
The global prevalence of dengue cases has increased in India. The increasingly widespread distribution and the rising incidence of dengue virus infections are related to increased distribution of Aedes aegypti, an increasingly urban population, and increasing air travel. Several countries show that the age of the reported dengue cases has increased from 5-12 years, to older children and young adults. Although shock and plasma leakage seem to be more prevalent as age decreases, the frequency of internal hemorrhage rises as age increases. Increase in liver enzymes found in both children and adults indicated liver involvement during dengue infections. Pre-existing liver diseases in adults such as chronic hepatitis, alcoholic cirrhosis, and hemoglobinopathies may aggravate the liver impairment in dengue infection. Fulminant hepatitis is a rare but well described problem in adult patients with dengue infection. Currently, no specific therapeutic agent exists for dengue. The early recognition of dengue infection, bleeding tendency, and signs of circulatory collapse would reduce mortality rates in adult patients with dengue infection
Molecular docking studies of bisazo derivatives of 4-Acetyl resorcinol against lung cancer protein EGFR
Lung cancer is one of the malignant diseases mostly caused by tobacco users. EGFR, proto oncogene plays an important role in many biological processes apoptosis, transcriptional regulation, cell differentiation, cell spreading and mobility. The mutation occurs in EGFR, the normal function of EGFR is over expressed and leads to develop lung cancer. In this present study, we have developed lung cancer drug from bisazo derivatives through molecular docking studies against EGFR using Glide. From the docking results the compound I, IV and V have a better life score when compared to other compounds. The ADME properties were carried out for five bis azo molecules. These compounds are under acceptable range with predicted ADME properties. From the In-silico docking studies, we conclude the compounds I, IV and V are good drug for lung cancer and inhibit over expression of EGFR in human
Establishment of the Biosorptive Properties of Ulva Lactuca Subjecting Eleusine Coracana (L) Gaertn to Heavy metal stress By Cobalt
An efficient protocol for in vitro rapid multiplication of Coldenia procumbens L. has been developed. The shoot tip explants were cultured on MS basal medium supplemented with different concentrations of BAP and KIN. The two cytokinins are tested, BAP was found to develop higher number of shoots from the shoot tip explants when compared to KIN. higher number of shoots was produced from all the concentrations of BAP and KIN. The highest frequency of 100% shoot induction was observed on MS basal medium supplemented with 6 μM BAP and 10 μM KIN. The number of shoots observed on the MS basal medium supplemented with BAP obtained 14 as well as 11 in KIN. The data's are recorded after 30days of inoculation
Synthesis and characterization of TiO2 nanoparticle and study of its impact on aquatic organism
The rapid development of nanotechnology or nanotoxicology is stimulating research on the potential health hazards and environmental impacts of manufactured nanomaterials (MNMs) and nanoparticles (NPs). This paper focused on the identification of Daphnia pulex from the environment and TiO2 nanoparticles synthesis, characterization and the 24 h acute toxicity of water suspensions of TiO2 NPs to Daphnia pulex, using mortality as toxicological endpoints. The results show that the acute toxicities of 0, 5, 50, 100, 150, 200, 210, 220, 225 and 230 ppm are dose dependent or concentration level. The Lethal Concentration (LC50) values for mortality 24h is observed at 218.79ppm. D. pulex were found to ingest nanoparticles from the test solutions through feeding and their behavioral and morphological effects indicates that the potential ecotoxicological and environmental health of these NPs cannot be ignored
