A Study on Moringa oleifera supplementation among pre-hypertensive subjects in rural area of puducherry
The present scenario alarms that Pre-hypertension is the major cause of death all over theworld. (Kearney et al., 2005) gives the prevalence of Pre- hypertension worldwide representing 26.4percent of adult population in 2000 had Pre-hypertension in which 26.6 percent of men and 26.1percent of women and it is projected to have 29.2 percent by the year 2025 on and wellness. (i) Toassess the Socio- demographic profile, Anthropometric measurement, Clinical data, Bio- chemicalparameters, Dietary pattern before and after supplementation among pre-hypertensive subjects inExperimental and Control group. (ii) To compare the Body Mass Index, blood pressure and totalcholesterol before and after supplementation in the experimental group and without supplementationin the controlled group. The investigator used Questionnaire and Interview schedule as the tool forconducting the study which consists Personal Details, Anthropometric measurements, health statusincludes Biochemical parameters, eating habits, Dietary pattern and other relevant details, collectedfrom 30 samples selected by random sampling method. The researcher carried out with selection ofcommon people as the samples who were randomly selected with Drumstick leaves powder(Moringa oleifera) supplementation among Pre-hypertensive subjects for a period of 21 days in theselected area in Puducherry. The mean value of total cholesterol level of the Control group of Prehypertensive subjects before intervention of value is 172.6±6.91 and after value is175±7.52. Therewas no significant difference in Standard deviation value, in the Total Cholesterol level of the controlgroup before and after without supplementation. In the Experimental group supplementation showedsignificant difference in the Total Cholesterol value which had reduced from 161 to 156 mg/dL,before and after supplementation which was observed due to the intake of Drumsticks leaves powderin Pre-hypertensive subjects
Protective effect of Toddalia asatica leaf extract on Mild steel in 1.0N HCl
A study has been made on the Novel corrosion inhibitor on mild steel in 1.0N HCl. Commonly deterioration of steel is caused due to various environmental and other chemical factors. It is unavoidable but protectable using inhibition methods. Here the usual inhibitor is replaced by green inhibitors to evade toxicity, easy availability, and to minimize the waste. This work seeks out to analyze the dried leaves of Todalia Asiatica as an inhibitor on mild steel in 1.0N HCl. The anticorrosive effectiveness of this inhibitor is studied by using non- electrochemical and electrochemical techniques. Non -electrochemical studies such as the effect of time (87.6%) and temperature (93.0%) at optimum concentration show the maximum inhibition efficiency of the inhibitor due to the formation of an inhibited layer by the inhibitor on the metal surface. Langmuir isotherm most closely fits into the info data obtained suggesting the physical adsorption between the extract and the mild steel substrate. Electrochemical such as potentiodynamic polarization studies proved that extract of Todalia Asiatica dried leaves is a cathodic type of inhibitor and 85.12% inhibition efficiency provided by the inhibitor. Charge Transfer Resistance (Rct) value increased and also Double-layer capacitance (Cdl) value decreases by EIS studies. The observed inhibitor efficiency at optimum inhibitor concentration is 84.05%. Surface and corrosion product Analysis (EDX/FTIR) was carried out to determine the corrosion-inhibitive properties of the samples
A Study on the effect of Silver nano particles synthesized using Rosa rubiginosa plant extract on the growth parameters of Silkworm Bombyx mori L
Sericulture plays a major role in rural employment, poverty alleviation and earning foreign exchange. A lot of entrepreneurial opportunities are available in various areas of sericulture. The quality of mulberry leaves fed to the silk worms is considered to be the prime factor for good cocoon and crop production. To find out the food efficacy of silkworm larvae fed with silver nanoparticles of Rosa rubiginosa treated with mulberry leaves. The silver nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical reduction method .The fifth instar larvae were selected for our study. Fiftth instar of silkworm larvae, Bombyx mori L. were fed on mulberry leaves fortified with Rosa rubiginosa silver nanoparticle extract at certain concentrations. The impact of the food efficacy factors such as, Food Consumption, Food Assimilation, Approximate Food Digestibility, Food Consumption Index and Coefficient of Food Utilization were examined. Different results were obtained depending upon on the various concentrations used. Almost in all the experimental concentrations of Rosa rubiginosa silver nanoparticle increased feed efficacy than control without any supplementation. And there is a little elevation observed in 1% concentration. Thus, supplementation of mulberry leaves with Rosa rubiginosa silver nanoparticle enhance feed efficacy, subsequently, enhancing the commercial qualities of cocoon. Thus it may be beneficial to the farmers and entrepreneurs in silk production
Magnesium and zinc diffused growth and characterization of strontium L(+) tartrate pentahydrate crystals
Single crystals of intrinsic strontium L(+) tartrate (IST), Mg2+ doped strontium L(+) tartrate (MDST) and Zn2+ doped strontium L(+) tartrate (ZDST) are grown using gel diffusion reaction method. Optimum condition for crystal growth is established by varying gel density, gel pH, concentration and matrix of supernatant solutions. EDAX analysis is made to measure stoichiometric composition and cationic distribution of the grown crystals. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Laser Raman spectral studies unveil various functional groups in the grown crystals. Thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) reveal decomposition behavior of the crystals for the temperature range of 30-1000oC. IST, MDST and ZDST crystals inborn with chemical formulae SrC4H4O6.5H2O, Sr0.9987Mg0.0013C4H4O6.5H2O and Sr0.9929Zn0.0071C4H4O6.5H2O respectively
Understanding awareness of young adults on dietary phytochemicals: A Pilot Study
Background: This pilot study was conducted to assess the knowledge about phytochemicalsamong young adults to understand the need for upholding the existing dietary guidelines for Indianswhich encouraged consumption of vegetable foods as one of the measures to control lifestyle obesity.Materials & Methods: A cross-sectional study design with snowball sampling of 90 subjects aged 18 to35 years was implemented. This study includes data from Southern and Western Indian States. Data hadto be collected using Google Forms due to the restrictions of Covid-19 on human interaction as perspecified safety guidelines. Results: Although 63.33 percent knew about phytochemicals, only 41.11percent were aware of dietary phytochemicals with 38.88 percent accepting that it may be beneficial tothem. 64.44 percent did not know about the different foods that included dietary phytochemicals with 10percent only acknowledging phytochemicals for their anti-cancer properties. 71.11 percent failed toidentify the different types of dietary phytochemicals and 97.77 percent admitted that they wanted tolearn more about the role that phytochemicals played in their health. Conclusion: Although obesity canresult from many genetic and environmental factors, understanding the role of diet-related factors for itsregulation will go a long way in diminishing chances of future generations becoming obese, therebyleading to a healthier population
Influence of probiotic and medicinal plants incorporated in animal feed formulations
Antibiotics used in animal feed to prevent various microbial diseases leads to antibioticresistance. Such resistances will not only occur in pathogenic bacterial species but can also betransferred to humans during the consumption of animal products. Long term usages of antibiotics leadto suppress the natural immunity. Replacing of commercial antibiotics with probiotics, edible medicinalplant material could benefit the poultry animals health and consumers without any negative effects.Sporolactobacillus laveolacticus MTCC 7167, a spore forming bacteria were screened for its probioticcharacteristics in sustaining at acidic and bile environments. Three medicinal plants such as Tinosporacordifolia, Abutilon indicum, Holoptelea integrifolia were selected and screened for their antimicrobialproperty to be used as a value added natural material incorporated in animal feed. Training needs on climate resilient farm technologies for improving the livelihood and nutritional security of farming community in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu
Farming remains as a risky profession in drought prone areas as a result of many climate changeissues affecting the lives and livelihoods of many farm families. The periodical and sudden occurrenceof natural vagaries in the past few years has become a new normal, resulting in the farmingcommunities suffering huge productivity losses in farming and allied sectors. Over a period of timewith their resultant farming experience over years, our farming community has diversified their farmrelated production activities. No longer they are entirely dependent on farming for their livelihoodneeds but derive more economic and nutritional gains from allied sectors. On the other hand, they alsoadopt modern and indigenous climate resilient farm technologies to mitigate climate change issues asa part of their farming activities. However, over a period of time they need to be trained on manyclimate resilient farm technologies to improve their farm yields, reduce losses and achieve sustainablefarm production. Keeping this in view, a study was undertaken in Erumapatty block to study thetraining needs of farmers on Climate resilient farm technologies for improving the livelihood andnutritional security of farming community in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu. About 120 farmrespondents were selected for this study where National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture(NICRA) scheme was launched in different modules. Training needs related to Capacity building andblending of local resources, Creation of water harvesting structures and New irrigation managementpractices for taking up mitigation measures was assessed as a part of this study. This identified trainingneeds coupled with developing a new extension model for addressing climate change issues inNamakkal district as a part of this study is sure to address many climate change related issues affectingour farmers. It will also assist us in improving the livelihood and nutritional security of our farmingcommunity in the near future
Impact of price on consumption of organic food products: A pragmatic study
Organic food product market is been growing consistently over a decade worldwide. Healthinsecurity among consumers is the major factor that shifted consumers interest towards organic productfrom conventional products. Irrespective of the growth, organic food market has grown as nichemarket, in order to enter the main stream the biggest barrier is the price of the product. At this backdrop,the present study aims to understand whether consumers are really keen to pay higher price for organicproducts bearing in mind the various benefits of it. The essential data for the present study has beengathered through primary source. A sample of 105 respondents were selected using conveniencesampling technique. A structured questionnaire had been used to determine respondents over allopinion towards the pricing of organic food items. The study results revealed that customers inclinationto pay higher premium price for organic product is due to less chemical & fertilizers usage, healthbenefit enjoyed, less environmental impact created and the quality maintained in the products
Prevalence and effectiveness of potential strategies for polycystic ovarian syndrome
Introduction :Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is defined as a complex endocrine disorderaffecting reproductive aged women. It is associated with anovulation, menstrual irregularities, infertilityand insulin resistance as the condition progresses. Methodology: The study was conducted among 1438women and all were screened with questionnaires on demographic profile, anthropometricmeasurements and clinical examination as well as diagnosed for PCOS with Rotterdam Criteria. A totalof 269 women were confirmed with PCOS. The purposive sampling technique was used and 113samples were enrolled for interventional strategies. 44 subjects received allopathic treatment for PCOSin a private hospital, Coimbatore. In Ayurveda hospital, ayurvedic treatment provided for 32 womenand 37 were managed with Life style medications of Diet and exercises.Data Analysis: Descriptive statistics, Paired T' test, ANOVA, Bonferroni and Chi square testwere used for objective analysisResults: Among 1438 women, 269 diagnosed to have PCOS as per Rotterdam Criteria.It showsthe prevalence rate of PCOS is 18.7%.Menstrual duration got normalized with 95.45 and 94.75 % byfollowing Allopathic medicine and lifestyle modification respectively.By Following allopathicmedicine, BMI got reduced with 0.99%,but 10.7% reduction in LSM group. With Ayurvedic Medicine,Alopecia reduced with 3.13 % over 6 months. By following lifestyle modification for 6 months, Acnereduced with 51.35%.Hyperandrogenism got reduced with 27.03% with lifestyle modification whereasgot reduced with 3.125% in Ayurvedic medicine.Conclusion : It shows the prevalence rate of PCOS is 18.7%.In allopathic group, BMI slightlyincreased and not significant. But, Menstrual regulation has been achieved with all three modalities oftreatments. BMI, WHR, Hyperandrogenic symptoms such as Alopecia, Acne and Hirsutism significantlyreduced in life style modification group as compared to other two groups. Enhanced solar light active CoTiO3 coupled Sr, N codoped TiO2 heterojunction composites: fabrication, photocatalytic properties analysis and dye degradation studies
The photocatalytic degradation efficiency of CoTiO3 coupled Sr, N codoped TiO2 has been examined by the degradation of Reactive Yellow 84 (RY 84) under solar light irradiation. The efficient CoTiO3/Sr, N codoped TiO2 based heterojunction composite was prepared via dispersed method and the results were compared with Sr, N codoped TiO2 and bare TiO2. The prepared photocatalysts were analyzed by x-ray diffraction [XRD], scanning electron microscopy [SEM] and diffused reflectance spectroscopy [UV-DRS] and Photoluminescence study [PL] , which implies the crystal structure, surface morphology, optical properties and quenching of electron role recombination. The charge separation of CoTiO3/Sr, N codoped TiO2 heterojunction composite has been improved as a result of coupling CoTiO3 and Sr, N codoped TiO2 with different energy levels and the responsible for the enhancement in the rate of photocatalytic degradation. The CoTiO3/Sr, N codoped TiO2 heterojunction composite shows better photostability at continuous photocatalytic runs.
