Distribution of accumulated arsenic in the seaweed Hijiki, Sargassum fusiforme (Harvey) Setchell (6)
Get PDF40017377549Arsenic accumulation in Hijiki, Sargassum fusiforme (Harvey) Setchell, a member of the Phaeo-phyta Family, was determined throughout the whole plant by thermal neutron activation analysis. We collected Hijiki plants along a sea coast of Ise Bay, where Akamoku plants have also been harvested. The arsenic distri-bution in the Hijiki plant body was not uniform along the stalk like in Hijiki plants harvested at other districts and Akamoku plants of this district. Studies on chemical modification of papain by 5-chlorosulfonyl-2-oxobenzimidazole as biotin model compound

On adding １ to the suspension of papain in acetonitrile containing formamide, １ was introduced into the papain in a yield of 7%, suggesting that １ modified papain chemically to give 2-oxobenzimidazolesulfonyl papain(OBI- papain). Also, it was found in-terestingly that papain activity of OBI-papain was maintained and that SH group in the active center in the large cleft of papain was free. Serum and hepatic lipids in the rat fed a Hijiki-diet
Get PDF40017399087Male Sprague-Dawley rats, 3 weeks old, were fed a Hijiki diet for 13 days, and serum and hepatic lipids were measured to give some observations relating to lipid metabolism in comparison with those fed a con-trol diet containing cellulose as dietary fiber. The mean concentration of serum HDL-cholesterol was signifi-cantly higher, while that of hepatic triglyceride concentration was significantly lower in the Hijiki diet group, than in the control group. The mean concentrations of serum triglycerides, serum total cholesterol, serum glucose, cecal short chain-fatty acids were higher in the Hijiki diet group than those in the control group. The mean concentration of hepatic total cholesterol was lower, while the mean wet weights of cecum and colon contents were higher, in the Hijiki diet group than those in the control. The mean weight of testes of the Hijiki diet group was significantly higher than that of the control. These results suggest that Hijiki may have some effects on lipid metabolism in the rat. Get PDF40017377546We studied the relationship between an incidence of trauma such as a bone fracture and an external wound and factors including lifestyle，physique，physical ability and nutrition in school age children.
The subjects were 52 children (30 boys and 22girls) enrolled in the sixth grade at an elementary school located in Osaka city. To survey the lifestyle and nutrition，the subjects were requested to complete the questionnaire consisted of daytime activities，s leep habit，sports history，medical history and food intake. The physique was determined with the measurements of body weight and height，sitting height and subcutaneous fat thickness.
Additionally，the physical ability was assessed with postural sway and whole body reaction time as well as 50-meter sprint and softball throw.
Discriminate analysis between the group with trauma and the other without trauma showed that the time spent in school and playing sports，body height，and Rohrer index promoted the incidence of trauma while the body weight and length changes last 6-month suppressed it. Shapes of compounds and types of reactions (3) Stereochemical considerations of the oxidation and reduction of alcohols/ketones
Get PDF40017377551In the previous papers, a detailed stereochemical classification of ketones, ketols and diketones was discussed from the viewpoint of not only symmetry of the molecule but circumstances of the carbonyl group(s) incorporated in the molecule, in which these carbonyl compounds was classified into 35 types involving 19 and 16 types for achiral and chiral molecules, respectively. A new notation system using three descriptors, H(homotopic), D(diastereotopic) and E(enantiotopic) with a symbol /, was also proposed to represent stereochemical characteristics of these carbonyl compounds.
In this paper, a classification of the types of the reduction reaction of carbonyl compounds has been investigated with respect to the notation system described above. Validity and usefulness of the notation system to analyse steric courses of the reduction reactions of the carbonyl compounds in order to predict the number of products as well as their chiralities have been shown using numbers of applied examples.

Get PDFoai:osaka-aoyama.repo.nii.ac.jp:0000001040017377552The author’s group conducted cooking courses for body weight control, and compared effect of a protein-rich diet and an energy-restricted diet on weight loss.
The participants were assigned to follow the protein-rich (n=11) or energy-restricted (n=19) diets, and received instruction for one month in protein-rich group and for four months in the energy-restricted group.
Weight loss rate in the protein-rich diet was 4.9±2.0% at one month, while that in the energy-restricted diet was 3.4±2.2% at four months. The protein-rich group revealed a significant decrease in serum triglyceride.
Additionally, the subject in the protein-rich group who was followed for 10 months showed further weight loss up to 18.3%.
These suggested that the protein-rich diet would be effective for weight loss in the short term and a feasible diet over the long term. (accepted. Dec. 28, 2008)departmental bulletin pape
Extraction of unreduced glutenin from wheat flour with aqueous alcohol
Get PDF40017377547Glutenin from wheat flour was extracted with 40% 1-propanol containing 0.1 M acetic acid,without prior reduction of its disulfide bonds. The extraction method may be useful for preparation of native glutenin from wheat flour. Wheat flour was extracted with 70% ethanol. About 45% of flour nitrogen,gliadin, was extracted. The glutenin in the residue was extracted with 40% 1-propanol containing 0.1 M acetic acid by ultrasonic treatment or churning with a Waring Blendor. Hydrophobic properties of wheat glutenin subunits
Get PDF40017377548Glutenin subunits of wheat flour were isolated by hydrophobic interaction chromatography using butyl-Toyopearl 650M column. The high molecular weight (HMW) subunits were eluted with 5–25% 2-propanol containing 0.01 M acetic acid. The low molecular weight (LMW) subunits were eluted with 25–50% 2-propanol containing 0.01 M acetic acid. HMW subunit 3 (S3) had lower surface hydrophobicity than HMW subunits 1 and 2 (S1 and S2).
