Reflection on the conservative nature of education -on the basis of P.J.Proudhon’s sociological thoughts-
Get PDFThis paper is intended to reconsider the conservative nature of education through the medium of Proudhon’s (Proudhon, Pierre-Joseph 1809-1865)sociological thoughts and resultant views on society.
Needless to say, the nature of education, when viewed from a social point of view, can be considered in two aspects– its “conservative nature” and “innovative nature”. In postwar Japan, it seems that over-high expectations have been held for the innovative nature of education. Therefore, despite its essential aspect of education, we have downplayed the conservative nature of education. This paper attempts to reconsider and revive the conservative nature of education.
Proudhon is considered to be the father of modern anarchism in the history of social thought research. His thoughts have been studied as liberal socialism (Proudhon’s principle)leading to social revolution, as opposed to authoritarian socialism(Marxism) leading to political revolution. Namely, Proudhon’s thoughts tended to be referred to and analyzed as the root of anarchism and the mentality behind social revolution. In addition to his position in the history of social thought research, we have to pay attention to other meaningful outcomes of his sociological ideas. When we carefully analyze the sociological thinking in his writings, we come across the nature of conservatism in his views, an idea
which is seemingly incompatible with the social revolution mentality. Moreover, we find various potential implications to produce a theory of education, which contains many interesting concepts related to the conservative nature of education.
Therefore, in this paper, I will analyze and discuss the nature of conservatism as seen in Proudhon’s sociological ideas, especially his attention to the “true community”,acceptance of the “contradictions” present in social life, and emphasis on the “heterogeneity” as a social infrastructure. In addition, I would like to discuss the relevance of his thoughts on society and conservative education in comparison to the present state of education, and attempt to enter into a more general discussion about the conservative nature of education.departmental bulletin pape
Improvement of sugar tolerance by a dahlia tuber extract in rats.
Get PDFDahlia tuber extract are a good source of inulin, a soluble dietary fiber, comparable to other inulin-rich foods such as Jerusalem artichoke, chicory and edible burdock. In the present study, the effect of a dahlia tuber extract on sugar tolerance was examined. The dahlia tuber extract showed weak inhibition against α-glucosidases, inhibiting the activity of maltase in hog intestinal mucosa with an IC50 of 73mM vs 1.7 mM for acarbose. Kinetic analysis revealed that the dahlia tuber extract behaved like a mixed non-competitive type inhibitor with a Ki value of 108mM.Oral sugar tolerance tests in healthy rats showed that administration of the dahlia tuber extract along with maltodextrin
suppressed the postprandial increase in blood glucose. The ameliorating effect of the dahlia tuber extract on sugar intolerance in the normal rats was considered to be mainly due to its α-glucosidases inhibitory activity.departmental bulletin pape

Get PDFThe mixture of pectin (high methoxylated pectin) and sucrose were gelatinized not only by an acid but by ionized calcium. The gelatinization by calcium was influenced by the concentration of sucrose. This calcium-induced gelatinization of pectin in the presence of sucrose seems to be due to blockade of the electric charge of the carboxyl group by a calcium ion. Namely, the gelatinization of pectin by ionized calcium in the presence of sucrose is suggested to be essentially similar in mechanism to its acid induced gelatinization.departmental bulletin pape
Studies on sanitary conditions in workplaces handling foods Part Ⅱ. Insects caught in a yakitori bar in Osaka City and bacteria contaminating their body surfaces.
Get PDFInsects were caught in a yakitori bar (a Japanese-style bar mainly serving skewered barbecued chicken) in Osaka City during the period of June 6th through 13th, 2011. They were examined for bacterial contamination on their body surfaces.
The number of captured insects was highest in moth-flies followed by ants. Smoky-brown cockroaches, sowbugs,spider beetles, small flies and the German cockroaches were also captured.
Larval smoky-brown cockroaches were most heavily contaminated by bacteria, such as Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio, Salmonella and Bacillus cereus. Subsequently sowbugs were contaminated by Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio and Bacillus cereus. Moth-flies, the most abundant insects trapped, were contaminated by common bacteria and Staphylococcus aureus, but not by Escherichia coli and other Escherichia group bacteria,Vibrio, Salmonella and Bacillus cereus.
These results demonstrate that the insects trapped in a yakitori bar carry several species of bacteria including foodpoisoning ones and may contaminate the food served there when they come into contact with it.departmental bulletin pape

I discussed the above in reference to published works and documents.
Perhaps it is the first time that a course of study is revised to include "a matter about traditional language culture"as an important part of national language education in the curriculum of Japanese from the first grade of elementary schools through high schools.
In this globalized society,it is important to elevate the capabilities for providing and communicating internationally.For such purposes, it is necessary to learn the basics of the traditional language culture of one’s own country.
Because language and culture develop as a result of cumulative efforts of the nation routinely using it, it is important in school education to take up these subjects systematically and properly.
We should establish the direction and methodology through interdisciplinary study efforts by experts on not only national language and literature education but also on communication and educational methodologies in order to help effectively teach traditional language cultures in schools.
No matter the method of guidance, I hope that children, by taking advantage of the current revision of the course of study, will become interested in haiku, tanka, and poetry.
Although the theme of the present article was initially meant to be related to short poems in general, there are only a few descriptions about poetory. I had to focus my main discussion on haiku because of space limitations.departmental bulletin pape
A treatise on Kiroku-Social tactics of a fool-
Get PDFThe character who often appears by the name of Kiroku in Osaka-style Rakugo is usually introduced as a “fool”. However, he is not just a fool but has his own wisdom and a strong character. Like ordinary people, he possesses desires, which always motivate his conducts. Examples of such desires are found in his statements “I want some more
spending money”, “I want to be loved by women”, or “I want to drink”. In this respect, he differs greatly from his counterpart Yotaro in Tokyo-style Rakugo, who is described as an utter “idiot” and unselfish. In contrast, Kiroku with his worldliness and greediness is loved by not only the residents of the Rakugo world but also by the general audience.
Why is he loved so much by people in spite of his toughness and greediness? Obviously, the sympathy of people who think “He is just like us” is one factor. However, from the standpoint of social tactics, he surprisingly displays his charming qualities in Osaka-style Rakugo. Effects of behavioral burdens on postprandial blood glucose levels on the following morning
Get PDFWe studied the effect of behavioral burdens on blood glucose control on the following morning.
Seven healthy university students were given burdens of sleep restriction (2±1.4h), prolonged hill walking (6hours,9.7km), a heavy high fat/protein dinner (1,000kcal) and a heavy high carbohydrate/protein dinner (1,000kcal) on four separate occasions. On the following morning after the load, the subject was fed a standard rice meal for breakfast at
9:00am, and blood glucose levels were measured immediately before and for 3 hours after the meal.
Sleep restriction and prolonged hill walking tended to increase postprandial blood glucose levels compared to the control (normal sleep hours of 6±2.5h and a usual dinner on the previous evening) most likely due to decreased insulin sensitivity. In contrast, a heavy dinner, either high fat/protein or high carbohydrate/protein, tended to reduce
postprandial blood glucose levels from the control due to the second meal effect.
These findings suggested that only one night of sleep deprivation and prolonged hill walking both induced disturbances in blood glucose control. However, a single heavy meal might reduce postprandial blood glucose levels rather than disturb blood glucose control.departmental bulletin pape
Development and data analysis of an apparatus for observation and measurement of collision avoidance behaviors against dangers approaching at high speed
Get PDFWe attempted to improve our apparatus for measurement of collision avoidance behaviors against a rolling ball and succeeded in measuring various parameters of the avoidance behaviors in a higher speed range of the rolling ball.
Using this new apparatus, we were able to raise stepwise the ball speed up to the maximal speed limit (6.6 m/sec)calculated from the whole body reaction time of an average Japanese. The individual avoidable speed limit was defined as the maximal ball speed at which the subject was able to avoid collision before two successive failures.
The avoidance behaviors of 38 primary school children and two adults were measured with this new apparatus. It has been shown that this new apparatus enables us to measure the maximal avoidable speed limit of the ball in addition to the collision occurrence rate and both shortest and mean reaction times of each subject, and that the measurement in the higher speed range of the ball is also applicable to adult subjects as well as to school children.
These results indicated that this new apparatus could be applied to subjects of all age groups and would be able to perform more multifaceted functions in comparison to our original type because the new apparatus enables us to measure a new parameter, the maximal avoidable speed limit, by measurement in a higher speed range of the approaching object.departmental bulletin pape
