    COST AND BENEFIT ANALYSIS OF ESTABLISHED MARINE CONSERVATION

    Climate change, which is happening now and has affected the level of ecosystems and populations of Marine Biodiversity. The influence will continue to remember the fishermen on the beach also took the fish with the principle of harvest without planting.This study aims at determining the analysis of the maintenance and preservation of biodiversity in the ocean. This research was conducted in the marine around Lamongan, Indonesia. The analysis technique used is the qualitative analysis carried out to determine the characteristics of Lamongan and quantitative analysis conducted to determine the costs and benefits of the implementation of the Bureau of Marine Biodiversity Conservation. The results of the analysis of costs and benefits of the implementation of Marine Biodiversity Conservation Bureau showed that the benefits received from the operation of the Bureau of Marine Biodiversity Conservation outweigh the costs, shown by Benefit-Cost Analysis>1, it means that policy is feasible. Such benefits include the maintenance and preservation of the benefits that are expected to be a solution to the scarcity of damage and biodiversity in oceans surrounding Lamongan, Indonesia

    SUITABILITY ANALYSIS OF SORGHUM BASED ON RAINFALL AND LAND CONDITIONS IN GUNUNGKIDUL, INDONESIA

    Sorghum is a grain, forage, or sugar crop and it is more suitable to be cultivated on dry land or paddy fields during the dry season since it has a vegetative period of rapid and easily expandable without requiring a lot of water. Moreover, sorghum has a high productivity, with low risk of failure, low cost, and pest resistant plant and it can be used as an alternative food for the community or could be used as biofuel. Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia has a lot of unused and marginal land, such as drought-prone areas, acid soil and saline soil, as well as other non-productive lands that has a potential to grow sorghum in order to overcome the scarcity of forage in the area when the dry season occurred. In this study, suitability of sorghum based on the characteristics of land conditions and rainfall was analyzed by overlaying maps of sorghum suitability over the area of interest. Since sorghum has an ability to adapt in dry condition and it has a wide benefit for human, this study suggest that sorghum has a potential crop for food diversification in changing the climate

    Alfisols is a soil that lack of organic matter (OM). thus making the physical properties of the soil is easily damaged, because OM is used as an adhesive on soil physical properties. This study aimed to examine the physical properties of  Alfisols in agroforestry based of teak and its effect on the development of soybean. This research used a Randomized Block Complete Design (RBDC) which consists of three factors (soybean varieties,  teak litter dose and NPK chemical fertilizers. The results showed that Alfisols in agroforestry based on teak relative good with the stability of the aggregate value of the 225,101 (Very Steady). Varieties and increasing teak litter doses affect soybean root development while NPK fertilizer did not make an impact. Argo Mulyo varieties have better root development in comparison with Grobogan, and litter dose of 2,5 Mg ha-1 has the best root development in each variety

    Changes in Soil Chemical Properties of Organic Paddy Field with Azolla Application

    The use of high organic fertilizer in the organic farming system is one of the obstacles in the implementation of organic farming in Indonesia. It is necessary to find alternative materials to substitute or meet the shortage of existing organic fertilizer. This study aims to determine the effect of Azolla (Azolla mycrophylla. L) on some soil chemical properties on organic paddy field. The The field experiments used factorial complete randomized block design of three factors, namely Azolla (0 and 2  tons / ha), Manure (0 and 10  tons / ha) and Rice Varieties ( Mira1, Mentik Wangi and Merah Putih), with three times replication.  Azolla  2  tons / ha is able to increase soil total  N 18%; available P  87,5 %; organic C  3,78% CEC 8,03 % and soil pH 1,00%;  compared to control (without Azolla). Compared with manure 10  tonss / ha, giving Azolla 2  tonss / ha was able to increase only on soil available P about 50 %, but lower on  soil total N, organic C, CEC and  soil pH  1,9% ; 9,27% ; 9,40% and 0,67%.  Azolla can be used as a substitute or complement  of manure on organic  paddy field

    Zeolite and Organic Fertilizer Application to The Improvement of Available P and Soybean (Glycine max L) Seed Yield in Alfisols

    The problem of low soybean yield on Alfisol is low soil fertility. The availability of P is often a constraint because the P element on the Alfisol soil is strongly bound by Al and Fe elements. Efforts to increase the availability of P element in Alfisols can be done by ameliorant of zeolite and organic fertilizer. This study objective was determined of zeolite and organic fertilizer in increasing of available P and soybean yield on Alfisols. A field experiment was conducted using Randomized Block Design consisting of two factors: a dose of zeolite (0 ton ha-1, 2.5 tons ha-1, and 5 ton ha-1), and organic fertilizer (no organic fertilizer, quail, and cow manure 5 ton ha-1 respectively). The results showed that zeolite 5 ton ha-1 is the highest effect on the increasing of available P, pH, organic matter, and saturation base as big as 5.19, 5.21, 24.03, and 21.55 respectively, while cow manure is improved to organic matter and saturation base 26.17, and 21.38% respectively.The combination of zeolite and cow manure 5 ton ha-1 gave the highest yield on the number of pods (101 pods plants-1), and the 1000 seeds weight is 153 g

    Evaluation of Land Fertility Status in Tirtomoyo District, Wonogiri Regency, Indonesia

    Evaluation of soil fertility status on agricultural is to know the fertility of soil chemically through soil analysis or soil test. This is done to obtain estimates data of land characteristics based on parameters observed and tested for various alternative uses based on specific objectives. Parameters used to assess soil fertility status are Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC); Bases Saturation (BS); Organic Carbon; Total P and K levels. Evaluation of soil fertility status is needed as an effort to know the potential and direction of the management of production land on the cultivation of agricultural crops, and to know the factor of fertility that limits on the land. Based on the above description, it is necessary to evaluate the status of soil fertility in Tirtomoyo District in order to be used in the effort to provide and increase food sustainability for Wonogiri region and able to increase the economy level and income for the farmers. The results showed that the soil fertility status in all areas of Tirtomoyo District classified into the low category. This is due to the low value shown in almost all observation parameters; Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC); Base Saturation (BS); Organic Carbon; Total P and K levels. The limiting factor of soil fertility status caused by a very low Total P value of 2.16 mg 100 g-1 to 14.19 mg 100 g-1, and Organic Carbon which is low with 0.4% to 1.7%

    THE POTENTIAL OF BANANA STEM AS PLANTING MEDIA FOR KANGKUNGS (Ipomoea reptans Poir) AND MUSTARD GREENS

    Banana stem water content is 90%. Therefore, it is potential as an alternative for planting media in limited agriculture lands due to their function changes. The aim of the research is to obtain information on cultivation technology and how long water content in banana stem is available for plant. This research employed the randomized block design- split plot with two treatment factors. The first factor was banana stem durations after harvest (0, 2, and four weeks) and the second one was vegetable crops, namely: kangkungs and mustard greens. Based on the treatment level, there were six combinations, and each was replicated 4 times. The research variables were height, number of leaves, chlorophyll content, nitrogen tissue, leaf area index, specific leaf area, unit price of leaves, growth rate, biomass (dry weight of the plant), length of root, and fresh weight of the plant. The result of the research shows that all treatments applied to banana stems had no effect on all variables tested. Banana stems could provide water to Ipomoea reptans Poir for the duration of 37 days after planting, and to mustards greens for the duration of 32 days after planting. Above the stated duration, the plant died due to water excess. Thus, banana stems had the potential to provide water for plants from planting to harvest, and the plants planted did not require additional watering

    MARINE RESEARCH FOR MANAGING CONFLICT AND COUNTERING CLIMATE CHANGE EFFECT IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA: CASE STUDY OF ANAMBAS EXPEDITION

    South China Sea (SCS) is the sea with rich of biodiversity and located in a strategic area as well as its huge deposit of oil and gas. This region is claimed in whole or part by six countries: China, Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Brunei. Given this conflict acuter and its affect environmental degradation as well as it worsens by climate change, Indonesia initiated an informal diplomacy (Track Two Diplomacy) to reconcile the disputing parties to design cooperation. Cooperation that “low-politics” risk is marine research cooperation. After talks, quite a long since 1990, finally countries surrounding the SCS agreed to do a research collaboration namely Anambas Expedition in Riau Islands in 2002. The study aims to determine the contribution of marine research in conflict management at sea in 2002’s as well as creates awareness of the effect of climate change. This study is a qualitative approach with methods textual analysis through the available documents. The result is a marine research can be the entry point for cooperation by the disputing parties to create mutual understanding

    CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACTS ON BALI MYNA (LEUCOPSAR ROTHSCHILDI) DURING THE LAST DECADE (CASE STUDY: WEST BALI NATIONAL PARK)

    Climate change is affecting birds worldwide. Such impacts have always been prevailing due to rising temperature or unpredictable rainfall that might be too abundant or little and which in turn bring about dire consequences upon the lives of the endemic bird known as Bali Myna (leucopsar rothschildi). In this paper, we propose a framework analysis describing the possible patterns of change in the distribution of Bali Myna (leucopsar rothschildi) population based on climate parameters such as temperature, rainfall, and humidity in hope to better have an improved quantitative methodology meant to identify and describe these patterns. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method recoursing to focus upon sites observation and a deep interview to be carried out while using SPSS 16 in order to know the variables correlation in hope to determine the plausible significance between them that allow us to analyze the effects of environmental variables on bird species in this study. We tested the proposed methodology using data from the West Bali National Park and the existing data of climate variables over the last decade where climate variables are considered to be significant factors influencing the lives of Bali Myna (leucopsar rothschildi). This study discovers that increases in temperature and precipitation each year have adversely affected the number of Bali Myna (leucopsar rothschildi) population indicating that the bird’s survival capacity depends largely much on temperature. Besides, it has been perceived that Bali Myna is very reproductive in rainy season but its fluctuations whether high or low impacts them as well. The distribution mapping shows a decline of population in 2006 while an increase was perceived during the last five year period of 2011-2015. Besides, over the same period, a slight increase of 0.4°C in mean temperature was noticed, precisely in Cekik our research site where Bali Myna (leucopsar rothschildi) are
