Dairy Waste to Power Video (2 of 5): Cows to Milk
This video, from the WPS Solarwise for Schools, is the second in a five-part series titled Dairy Waste to Power. This series discusses using dairy cow waste to make electricity through anaerobic digestion. This video focuses on the process of how cow farms produce milk, providing background for the discussion of anaerobic digestion in later videos in the series. This video, from the WPS Solarwise for Schools, is the fourth in a five-part series titled Dairy Waste to Power. This series discusses using dairy cow waste to make electricity through anaerobic digestion. This video teaches how biogas, the gaseous product of anaerobic digestion, is converted into electricity using a biogas fueled electrical generating system. This video also discusses biogas as a renewable form of energy, the sale of excess electricity, and how that electricity helps power electricity grids in Wisconsin. Dual Credit HS DNA Sequencing and Internships in Protein Biomanufacturing
This resource, published by InnovATEBIO, features two presentations: one that explains the Dual Credit High School-Community College DNA Sequencing and Genomics Project at Austin Community College, followed by one on the development of a training program for protein biomanufacturing at Los Angeles Pierce College. The DNA sequencing project provides hands-on work experience in student-led research using "industry-level DNA sequencing technology." The Protein Biomanufacturing project places interns in a student-led Contract Manufacturing organization to create Taq polymerase. Incorporating Course-Based Research and Developing Genome Editing Coursework
This webinar, published by InnovATEBIO, features two talks: one on incorporating course-based research experiences into high schools and community colleges in Southwest Nebraska, and another on developing curriculum with genome planning in a program with low enrollment. The first presentation focuses on a high school research experience that uses research on genes from dog saliva to teach biotechnology techniques in a way that helps students connect with biotechnology on a personal level. The second presentation discusses St. Louis Community College's biotechnology program and the challenges it faces due to low enrollment. This presentation goes into detail the program's genome editing course and plans to continue developing the program despite challenges with enrollment. It runs 57:26 minutes in length
Human Bingo
These cards were used by the National Convergence Technology Center (CTC) at several 2023 events to act as icebreakers. Attendees has to get up and walk around the room to meet others who fit each bingo square. Winners got a small prize. Also included is a .jpeg slide explaining the rules, which can be adapted as needed.For orientation purposes the HITEC human bingo .pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this curriculum.Below is a list of the files contained within the .zip attachment. XTRa Tropical Robotics: Technical Report
This 21-page report, from Grove Academy, describes the design and construction of the underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) created by the XTRa Tropical Robotics team for the Ranger Class of the 2023 MATE ROV competition. MATE ROV is a global competition that challenges STEM students to build underwater ROVs to complete challenges. The competition is split into the following classes based on build complexity: Explorer, Ranger, Pioneer, Navigator, and Scout.The report begins with an abstract introducing XTRa Tropical Robotics and their ROV followed by a discussion of project management including a timeline of the ROV's construction. Next, the report provides an overview of the construction of the team's ROV, going into detail on each part of the ROV, including its frame, thrusters, the controller, wiring, and more. ROBOCOL: Technical Report
This 17-page report from the University of the Andes describes the design and construction of the underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) created by the ROBOCOL team for the Pioneer Class of the 2023 MATE ROV competition. MATE ROV is a global competition that challenges STEM students to build underwater ROVs to complete challenges. The competition is split into the following classes based on build complexity: Explorer, Ranger, Pioneer, Navigator, and Scout.The report begins with a brief discussion of ROBOCOL's team mission and vision along with a list of team members. Next, the report provides information on the construction of the team's ROV, highlighting the design rationale, the team's problem solving techniques, vehicle structure, control/electrical system, propulsion, and more. Envisioning the Next Bioscience Workforce: A Summit on Industry Trends and Needs
This 80-page report provides an extensive overview of the Envisioning the Next Bioscience Workforce summit held by InnovATEBIO on the 26th and 27th of June, 2023. The summit gathered "attendees from education, industry, workforce development and government gathered for two days to learn about emerging trends and technologies in the biosciences and to convene within 'state teams' to develop action plans for strengthening the bioscience workforce ecosystem in their state." The report begins with a summary of the summit and a discussion of its conclusions and strategies developed for building statewide bioscience workforce ecosystems. Then, the report goes into the findings of each panel/mini-panel discussion and covers the "state teams" model for collaboration in promoting the biotechnology workforce.
