No full textThis 16-page document from MNT-EC (Micro Nano Technology Education Center) was created with industry partners to identify the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) that entry-level microsystems technicians should possess. This document is divided into four sections: What is MNT-EC?, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. The introduction defines what KSAs are and how they are determined. The following three sections identify key competencies in each area, including scientific fundamentals, math, troubleshooting, computer skills, and operating equipment. The Abilities section provides numbered proficiency levels for each ability, and indicates the desired proficiency level for entry-level microsystems process technicians

Bioenergy Research and Education BRIDGES Program
No full textThis website, from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), provides information about the Bioenergy Research and Education Bridge (BRIDGES) program. This project "is an education and workforce development program to assist educators in teaching bioenergy topics to help prepare a national bioenergy workforce." Program goals include translating scientific research for classrooms, raising awareness about bioenergy careers, easing the transition from academics to industry, and ensuring equitable access to high-quality bioenergy learning materials. BRIDGES incorporates Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles, using place-based learning and culturally responsive teaching. BRIDGES develops case studies based on the DOE national laboratory research to teach bioenergy topics. Case studies cover topics such as sustainable aviation fuels, upcycling plastics, regional feedstocks, and municipal solid waste-to-energy. Comprehensive student and instructor guides are provided, and feedback from stakeholders, including minority-serving institutions, is integrated through the BETO BRIDGES National Review Board.A primer on the program and the case studies are free for download

The cases studies explore "... solutions for a more secure energy future using bioenergy technologies while addressing cultural responsiveness and issues surrounding diversity."This case study, from the U.S. Department of Energy, is aimed at introducing students to the challenges and advantages of biofuels in the transportation industry. During the activity, "students will explore the potential of transportation biofuels, their impact on greenhouse gas emissions, as well as exciting careers in the bioenergy field." In the role of an intern investigating the biomass-to-bioenergy value chain, students are tasked with researching the best regional feedstock for producing high-quality fuel at a low cost. Students will also "... investigate the main types of biomass and waste resource materials and learn the ideal characteristics for conversion to biofuels."A .zip file includes all case study materials, such as a fact sheet, instructor guide, and supplemental materials.
