Antibiotics such as tetracycline in the livestock industry face severe restrictions due to increasing antimicrobial resistance. Tibicos fermentation, as a natural probiotic, has the possibility to be an adequate and safe alternative for modulating gut microbiota. The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of tibicos fermentation and tetracycline in modulating the population of three major bacteria (Escherichia coli, Lactobacillus, and Salmonella spp.) in the ileum of broiler chickens. Ninety Indian River strain broilers were divided into three treatments with three replicates (n=10 per replicate): control with pure water (KN), 45 ppm tetracycline (KP), and 5% tibicos fermentation (FT). Treatments were given through drinking water ad libitum from 8 to 35 days of age. Bacterial populations were analyzed using the Total Plate Count (TPC) method on ileal samples aged 35 days. Data analysis used a multivariate approach including Bray-Curtis dissimilarity, PERMANOVA, Principal Coordinates Analysis (PCoA), and Similarity of Percentage Analysis (SIMPER). Bray-Curtis dissimilarity analysis showed moderate differences in microbiota composition between treatments with values of 0,064854 (FT vs KN), 0,069687 (FT vs KP), and 0,07451 (KN vs KP). SIMPER analysis identified E. coli as the primary contributor to differences between treatments, with contributions of 39,50% (KP vs KN, p=0,005), 65,70% (KP vs FT, p=0,001), and 41,10% (KN vs FT, p=0,001). Principal Coordinates Analysis showed apparent clustering between treatments, with tibicos fermentation producing microbiota profiles that differed from control and tetracycline. Tibicos fermentation showed comparable effectiveness to tetracycline in modulating ileal bacterial composition, particularly in controlling pathogenic populations while maintaining Lactobacillus stability

Gastrointestinal nematodes are one of the common groups of parasites in ruminants, especially goats. These parasites are also affected livestock productivity. This study aims to identify gastrointestinal nematode parasites and prevalence of infection to kambing kacang in Tiakur, Moa District, Southwest Maluku. The samples in this study are fecal collected from 50 kacang goats that are raised semi-intensively by two local farms in Tiakur. The examination of parasites eggs was performed using the direct native method and the test results were analyzed descriptively. The results of this study reveal the prevalence of 80% gastrointestinal parasite in farm 1 and 92% in farm 2. Parasite species that are infected kacang goats in two local farms in Tiakur are Haemonchus contortus, Trichuris sp., and Trichostrongylus sp. Lack of knowledge from the farmers about the implementation of biosecurity and maintenance management has a significant impact on gastrointestinal parasite infections in goats. This study also supports the local farmers to increase and improve the knowledge and increase deworming schedules to prevent the animal from parasites infections

The purpose of this study was to assess the potential for ruminant livestock development in Lima Puluh Kota District by analyzing land cover and land use. A high-accuracy land cover map (kappa = 0.97) was created using Landsat 8-9 Path/Row 127/060 satellite imagery and the Random Forest (RF) classification method. Analysis was conducted using Geographic Information System (GIS) processes to evaluate land suitability. Slope, elevation, and proximity to water sources. As a result, about 35% of the district is highly suitable (S1) for ruminant farming. Due to the abundance of natural fodder and conditions conducive to extensive grazing systems, these ideal areas are mostly zones of dryland agriculture, mixed gardens and shrubs. However, due to limited fodder supply and geographical constraints, densely forested environments and urban environments are categorized as moderately suitable or unsuitable. The importance of improving livestock spatial arrangements was highlighted by the significant mismatches found when existing livestock population data were spatially overlaid with suitability maps. In conclusion, Lima Puluh Kota District has a strong biophysical basis to support ruminant livestock development. However, to ensure sustainable and effective use of land resources for livestock, spatial planning and land use policies must be aligned

    No full text
Phosphorus content in animal-derived foods is an important indicator of nutritional value and food safety. This study validated a method for phosphorus analysis in chicken meat and fresh cow’s milk using wet digestion based on microwave digestion and microplate UV-Vis spectrophotometry with the principle of molybdenum blue complex formation by ascorbic acid at a wavelength of 880 nm. Method performance was evaluated according to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. The validation parameters included linearity and linear range, sensitivity comprising the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ), precision comprising repeatability and intermediate precision, as well as accuracy. The calibration curve showed good linearity within the range of 2–12 ppm (r² = 0.998). The LOD and LOQ values were 0.29 and 0.97 mg/L for chicken meat, and 0.17 and 0.57 mg/L for cow’s milk, respectively. Precision testing resulted in repeatability and intermediate precision RSDs of 2.00% and 2.18% for chicken meat, and 2.62% and 2.14% for cow’s milk. Accuracy, determined by recovery analysis, showed values of 97.14% for chicken meat and 103.15% for cow’s milk. These results demonstrate that the validated method meets the acceptance criteria of ISO/IEC 17025. The method provides acceptable linearity, sensitivity, precision, and accuracy, and can be applied for routine phosphorus analysis in meat and milk matrices. Keywords: Phosphorus, chicken meat, cow’s milk, method validation, UV-Vis spectrophotometr

    No full text
This study aimed to determine the effect of dietary turmeric (Curcuma longa) supplementation on the cholesterol profile of native chicken meat. Five treatments (control and four levels of turmeric inclusion) with five replications each were used. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA. The results showed that turmeric supplementation significantly affected meat cholesterol content (F = 16.302; p < 0.001). The highest cholesterol level was observed in the control group (67.06 ± 4.86 mg/100 g), while the lowest was in treatment 3 (41.57 ± 11.07 mg/100 g). Furthermore, crude protein and fat content of the meat also showed significant differences among treatments. These findings indicate that turmeric powder can be applied as a functional feed to produce native chicken meat with lower cholesterol content
