The purpose of the present study was to assess diurnal variations in selected physical variables before and during Ramadan fasting. The physical variables (speed, speed endurance, agility and power) were documented around the clock at five 4-hourly intervals before Ramadan began and on the twenty-third day of Ramadan (daytime fasting). Ten healthy nonsmoking male handball players volunteers were included in the study after routine clinical and laboratory examinations. These subjects were selected from Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Annamalai University. Their ages averaged 27 ± 1.9 years. Time series were analysed with repeated measures ANOVA which revealed that there was a statistically significant changes as a result of Ramadan fasting among experimental days and times on speed, speed endurance, agility and power. Experimental day and time interaction showed that during Ramadan, compared with control period, time related variations of speed, speed endurance, agility and power changed significantly. To evaluate rhythmicity, the single cosinor method was used. Cosinor analysis clearly shows the shift in acrophase obtained from the subjects before to the 23rd day of Ramadan fasting. Ramadan induces day time changes in speed, speed endurance, agility and power

The purpose of the study was designed to find out the comparison of selected motor skill related performance and academic achievement among the sixth grade respondents. During the academic year 2012 – 2013, 30 boys and 30 girls studying in government higher secondary school, Silattur, Erichi, Aranthangi, Pudukkottai, Tamilnadu, India were selected to achieve the purpose of the study. They were selected based on their academic achievement in the quarterly examination as above average, average and below average achievers making up a total of 60 respondents. The age of the respondents ranges from 12 to 14 years. The academic achievement of the respondents in the quarterly examination was considered as independent variables for this study. The criterion variables selected for the study are motor skills related performance such as 50 mts run and vertical jump. The data were statistically analyzed by using Two Way (2x3) Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) for evaluating the influence of the two criterion variables. The obtained results have three F- ratio, two for main effect; the first F- ratio for rows (referring to gender) and columns (referring to academic achievement) and one for interaction (referring to the gender and academic achievement). The obtained F- ratio for column (referring to the gender and academic achievement) was significant. Scheffe‘s Test was used as Post Hoc Test separately for column to find out the significant difference between paired mean. In all the conditions, the significant level was fixed as 0.05 level, which was considered to be appropriate. The result reveals that there existed significant difference between the above average achievers and average achievers; above average achievers and below average achievers; and average achievers and below average achievers of gender on power. There existed significant difference between genders irrespective of academic achievement on speed. Hence it reveals that there was no significant difference between average achievers and below average achievers; and above average achievers and average achievers of gender on power. Further, it also reveals that there no significant difference on speed among the gender at different academic achievement

The development of games and sports has relations with the economy and politics of the country. It is evident from the world history that in every regime the ruler has tried to promote games and sports in the country, although their objectives might not be similar. There are instances of nations which have promoted physical culture, games and sports for making their nation physically fit as well as mentally alert, to prepare their defense personnel for tough jobs and even to reduce the national budget on medical expenditure of their citizens. The political set-up of the country shapes the fate of sports and games. The reality is that the economy of the country is now subject to politicization. It may not be wrong if it is said that prior to the promotion of sports and games, the destiny of the economy of the nation is decided by the politics of the country. The responsibility of formulation and implementation of economic policies, taking into consideration the needs of the country as well as the development of national economy matching with the rest of the world lies with National Government run by the Political leaders, Economists and Bureaucrats. In the promotion of games and sports, political system of a country plays a vitalrole
