Relationship between Occupational Stress and Coping Strategies among Physical Education Teachers
The study aimed to examine the relationship between occupational stress and coping strategies adapted by physical education teachers. The sample consisted of 288 physical education teacher respondents working in secondary schools of Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka State. The respondents were responded to the Occupational Stress Index (Shrivastava and Singh, 1984) and Coping checklist by Rao et al.(1984). This Occupational Stress Index and Coping checklist are used with some modifications. The data were analyzed with the help of SPSS 17.0. Results revealed that five coping strategies out of 8 were best predicted occupational stress of the teachers. They are spiritual related coping, unproductive coping mechanism, unhealthy coping habits, social support coping, and physical activity related coping. Other coping strategies like problem solving coping strategy, healthy cognitive coping and high risk coping were less predicted
Effects of Circuit Training On Different Surfaces on Selected Physical and Physiological Variables of School Boys
Forty five boys in the age group of 13 to 14 years of Alagappa Model school, Karaikudi were selected at random and were divided randomly into three groups namely mud circuit training group, concrete circuit training group and control group. The experimental groups participated in the training programme for a period of 6 weeks. During this period, the control group was let off without any training. The data were collected on selected physical and physiological variables of speed, agility, leg explosive power, pulse rate, blood pressure, aerobic capacity respectively before training (pre-test) as well as after 6 weeks of training (post-test). Analysis of covariance was used to analyse the data. The result of the study clearly indicated that the mud circuit training group had improved the speed, agility, leg explosive power, pulse rate, blood pressure, aerobic capacity to a greater degree than concrete circuit training group
Effect of Daytime Melatonin Administration on Tympanic Temperature Heart Rate and Endurance Capacity
The purpose of this study is to know the effect of pre-cooling strategy using 3mg of melatonin during daytime on tympanic temperature, heart rate and endurance capacity. Twenty four physically active and healthy males were randomly classified into two groups namely melatonin and placebo, each constitute of 12 players. The age, height and body mass were 21.13 ± 0.80 yr, 1.79 ± 0.5 m, 78.4 ± 5.1 kg, respectively. Tympanic temperature, heart rate and endurance capacity was selected as criterion variable. Single dose of Melatonin (3g) and placebo were supplemented to respective group around 10:00. ANCOVA was administered. The results of this study indicate that the 3 mg of melatonin significantly affected the tympanic temperature (F (1&21) = 12.68, p = 0.002) and heart rate (F (1&21) = 6.48, p = 0.019). However endurance capacity did not show any changes (F (1&21) = 2.308, p = 0.144). It is inferred from the results of the present study that 3mg of melatonin significantly affect the tympanic temperature and heart rate but failed to show any impact on endurance capacity
Effect of Handball Specific Repeated – Sprint Training on Aerobic Capacity of Male Handball Players
The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of handball specific repeated – sprint training on aerobic capacity of male handball players. To achieve the purpose of the study thirty male handball players were selected randomly from Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Tamilnadu. The selected subjects were assigned into 2 groups: handball specific repeated - sprint training group (n=15) and control group (n=15). The selected subjects mean age: 23.15±3.00 years; weight: 68.74±7.25 kg and height: 176.37±7.67 cm. The criterion variable selected in this study was aerobic capacity which was measured by multistage fitness test. The handball specific repeated - sprint training group underwent eight weeks of training. Pre and post aerobic capacity was measured on the indoor. The data was analysed using Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The result of the study showed post test (F = 20.13) and adjusted post test mean (F = 10.68) showed significant (p < 0.05) difference among repeated – sprint training group and control group on aerobic capacity. It is concluded that handball specific repeated sprint training for eight weeks is more effective in increasing aerobic capacity of men handball players. The training load adopted in repeated – sprint training which resulted in 11.79% of changes in aerobic capacity
Combined Effect of High Intensity Intermittent Training and Weight Training on Aerobic Capacity Anaerobic Capacity and Fatigue Index of Male Handball Players
The purpose of the present study is to assess the combine effect of high intensity training and weight training on aerobic capacity, anaerobic capacity and fatigue index of male handball players. Thirty six male handball players were randomly selected from Sports Authority of India, Sports Training Centre (STC), Sarurnagar, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. These subjects were classified into two groups, namely Group I - Combined training (12) and Group II - Control group (12). The Group I underwent high intensity intermittent training and weight training and Group II acted as control. The selected players had regular practice and took part in competitions. The selected subjects average age, height and weight were 21.55 ± 2.15 years, 170.05 ± 6.98 cm and 64.94 ± 8.50 kg respectively. In the present study we selected aerobic capacity, anaerobic capacity and fatigue index as criterion variable which was assessed by multi stage fitness test and running based anaerobic sprint test. High intensity intermittent training and weight training was performed 4 session per weeks (2 session of high intensity intermittent training and 2 session weight training) for 8 weeks respectively. All the selected subjects anaerobic capacity, fatigue index and aerobic capacity was measured before and after 8 weeks of training to respective groups. ANCOVA was applied to know the changes based on training. The result of the study showed that 8 weeks of combined training significantly improved aerobic capacity (F (1,21) = 104.84, p < 0.05), anaerobic capacity (F (1,21) = 20.33,p < 0.05) and fatigue index (F (1,21) = 21.35, p < 0.05) of the handball players after adjusting the pre test. It is concluded that combined training is efficient enough to improve aerobic capacity, anaerobic capacity and fatigue index of male handball players
Anthropological Measurement of women’s National and International Level Football Players of Manipur
Body measurement was one of the important factors which affect to our performance level. The purpose of this research was to measure the level of selected anthropological measurements between the goalkeepers, backs, midfielders and strikers of national and international level women‘s football players of Manipur. Under the Descriptive research comparison was predicted from 81 women‘s players those who had participated national and international level of competition and these players are recently participating in state level competition organized by All Manipur Football Association. The collected data was analysis by using Duncan‘s Range Test significant at 0.05 level of confidence. Goal keepers were significantly found higher in weight than Half, striker; backs were significantly higher in weight than striker; Goal keepers were significantly higher in height than all the position of players back, Half, striker; goalkeepers were significantly different in BMI then the back and backs were significantly higher than strikers; in neck circumference the significant different found in goalkeeper than the half and striker position of players; goalkeepers were significantly lower in upper arm circumference than back and half, backs were significantly higher in upper arm circumference than the striker position of players; backs were significant higher in fore arm circumference than strikers but no significant different found to other different position of players; back were higher thigh circumference than Goalies, Half and Strikers; no significant difference found in calf circumference
Analysis of selected Psychological Variables between the Athletes and Athletes with Disabilities
The objective of the study is to find out the analysis of selected psychological variables between the athletes and athletes with disabilities. For this study forty normal athletes and forty athletes with disabilities were selected from Coimbatore, Madurai, Viruthunagar districts. Tamil Nadu. India. Their age ranged from 17 to 35 years. Each group was tested in psychological variables like cognitive anxiety, somatic anxiety, self-confidence, motivation, physical activity by the standardized questionnaire. Anxiety was analyzed by Illions anxiety and self-confident questionnaire. Self-confident was analyzed by Illions anxiety and self-confident questionnaire. Motivation was analysed by Illions sports achievement motivation test questionnaire. "t" ratio was calculated to find out the significant of the difference between the mean of athletes group and athletes with disabilities group. The level of significance for the study was chosen as 0.05. It is conclude that the psychological variable of cognitive anxiety is insignificant between athletes and athletes with disabilities. The psychological variable of somatic anxiety was insignificant between athletes and athletes with disabilities. The psychological variable of self-confidence was insignificant between athletes and athletes with disabilities. The psychological variable of motivation was insignificant between athletes and athletes with disabilities
Respiratory Functions of Volleyball Players According to Specific Playing Positions
The purpose of the study was to compare the respiratory functions of volleyball players according to specific playing position. For this study, two hundred and forty male volleyball players (Blockers-68, Liberos-41, Setters-48, Spikers-83) of age ranging from 18-25 years were selected as subjects from various colleges and universities of North India. The purposive sampling technique was used to select the subjects. Respiratory functions were measured with computerized spirometer. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to compare the volleyball players among different playing positions. Following the detection of a significant main effect, Bonferroni?s post-hoc analyses were performed to locate where specific mean differences were laid. Significance levels were set at p<0.05. Results showed that there was no statistically significant difference observed for inspiratory capacity and vital capacity in the volleyball players among different playing positions. In case of inspiratory reserve volume and expiratory reserve volume, statistically significant difference was noticed in the volleyball players among different playing positions. Setters had significantly lower inspiratory reserve volume than the blockers and spikers. Expiratory reserve volume was highest in blockers and this was followed by spikers, liberos and setters respectively. These might be due to the variation in body height, body weight, sporting activity and specific playing position, which influence the respiratory functions
Comparative Study on Leg length and Leg Explosive Strength of 12-16 Years Boys
In this study an attempt has been made to find out the comparative changes on leg length and leg explosive strength of 12 to 16 years boys. The subjects of the present study were selected randomly from the school of Naihati Narendra Vidyaniketan, 24 Pgs (N), WB. Thirty students of each age group’s i.e.; 150 boy’s students were randomly selected for this purpose. The criteria measured in this article were leg length and leg explosive strength. The data on the leg length and leg explosive strength were analyzed by applying ANOVA to find out significant differences if any among the five age groups. Significant results were found in leg length and leg explosive strength
Effect of elastic strength training on selected physical fitness variables of novice college men high jumpers
The aim of the present study was to find out the effect of elastic strength training on selected physical fitness variables of novice college men high jumpers. To achieve the purpose of the study, thirty novice male high jumpers were selected randomly from Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Annamalai University, Chidambaram. The selected subjects were classified into two groups of fifteen each. Group I underwent eight weeks of elastic strength training programme, so as to be an experimental group. Group II acted as control group to find out the influence of elastic strength training programme. The criterion variables selected for the present study are speed – 50 meters dash, leg strength – leg dynamometer and explosive power – vertical jump. The elastic strength training group underwent training 3 days per week for eight weeks. They performed 50 to 80 foot contacts per session. The training resulted in significant improvement in speed (F = 35.24, p < 0.05), leg strength (F = 47.47, p < 0.05) and explosive power (F = 19.62, p < 0.05). It is concluded that novice high jumpers experience significant improvement in lower extremities strength and power
