    Analysis of the Influence of Skills on Playing Ability among Junior Soccer Players

    The purpose of the present investigation was to analyse the relationship between the selected skills with the playing ability and the influence of skills on the playing ability among the soccer players of defending playing position. Method: 30 male soccer players (defenders) from Puducherry Union Territory, India, age ranged between 17 and 19 years were selected by random sampling technique(n=30). To assess the playing ability of the subjects, the rating technique was followed by using three experts. The skill performance (short pass, long pass, foot receiving and passing, thigh receiving and passing, chest receiving and passing, Defensive heading, attacking heading, dribbling and shooting) was quantified by adopting appropriate tests. The test reliability was established by the investigator by test retest method for 10 soccer players. Result: Among the selected skills, short pass (0.468, p< 0.05), thigh receiving and passing (0.508, p<0.05), chest receiving and passing (0.608, p<0.01), attacking heading (0.482, p< 0.05), defensive heading (0.755, p<0.01) and shooting (0.666, p<0.01) had positive significant relationship with the soccer playing ability. The 90% of playing ability of defenders is mainly due to the skills such as defensive heading (57), attacking heading (15%), long pass (11%) and shooting (7%)

    Impact of Regular Salah Practice on Resting Pulse Rate

    The aim of the present study was to find out the impact of regular salah practice on resting pulse rate. For the purpose of the study 10 middle aged men were selected from Masjeed Mahmood, Chidambaram, Tamilnadu, India as subjects at purposive random sampling. The age range of subjects between 39 to 44 years. The subject follow the Salah standing, bowing, prostration and sitting for five to fifteen minutes. The Salah was carried five sessions a day such as 5:30 to 5:40 (Fajer), 13:15 to 13:25 (Zuhar), 17:00 to 17:10 (Aser), 18:30 to 18:45 (Magrib) and 20:00 to 20:15 (Isha). The resting pulse rate in the redial of the subjects was taken by using a stop watch per minute. The test was assessed before and after the salah programme respectively. The collected date on criterion variable was statistically assessed for significance by using two-way factorial ANOVA. The level of significance was fixed at 0.05. The result of the study shows that there was a significant difference in factor A & B but not in the interaction on pulse rate due to different salah for a day

    Evaluation of anaerobic capacity and fatigue index at different times of the day on male handball players

    The purpose of the present study was to compare anaerobic capacity and fatigue index at different times of the day on male handball players. To achieve the purpose 29 male handball players were selected from Department of physical Education and Sports Sciences, Annamalai University. Anaerobic capacity and fatigue index was measured by Running based anaerobic sprint test (RAST). The data was collected at four different times of the day at 07:00, 12:00, 17:00 and 22:00 hours. The collected data was analysed using One-Way Repeated Measure ANOVA for comparisons of mean values between four different times of the day. When F is significant pair wise bonferroni comparison was applied to know the difference between different times of the day. The result of the study showed significant difference in anaerobic capacity at different times of the day (F = 5.27, p = 0.002). However, fatigue index showed no significant difference at different times of the day (F = 1.456, p = 0.23). It identified that greater anaerobic capacity elicited during 17:00 hours and decline in power output remained unaltered

    Effect of Silambam Practice on Body Composition Agility and Cardiovascular Endurance among College Girls

    The purpose of the study was to find out the effect of Silambam practice on body composition and cardio vascular endurance among college girls. Silambam fencing is a martial art native to the soil of Tamil Nadu. It has been originated from 3000 B.C and practiced by the pre-historic Dravidian Tamils who were dwelling from the Mohan-ja-daro & Harappa regions and is still practiced today. To achieve the purpose of this study, 40 sedentary college girls were selected as subjects. The age of the subjects were ranged from 18 to 20 years. The subjects were further classified at random into two equal groups of 20 subjects each. Group - I underwent Silambam training for three days per week for sixteen weeks and group - II acted as control. The selected criterion variables namely body weight, BMI, lean body mass, percent body fat and cardio vascular endurance were assessed before and after the training period. The collected data were statistically analysed by using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). From the results of the study it was found that there was a significant improvement in cardio vascular endurance and significant reduction in body weight, BMI, lean body mass, and percent body fat with no significant change in agility among the experimental group when compared with the control group

    Immediate Effect of Aerobic Exercise on Hematological Parameters

    Introduction: In this research, the examination of the immediate effect of aerobic exercise on hematological parameters of male Interuniversity players has been aimed. Methods: Six male cricket players with an average age of 22.16±1.85 years participated in this study on voluntary basis. Hematological parameters of the players were analyzed before running (BR) and after the running (AR) 1000m course. In order to determine hematological levels, blood samples with 5 ml EDTA were taken from the forearm ante-cubical area before and after running, and erythrocyte, leucocytes and blood platelet parameters were analyzed in laboratory with using auto-analyzers. Result: Measurement results were presented as average and standard deviation. Student T-test for dependent samples was used in order to make a comparison between BR and AR values. P<- 0.01 value was considered to be significant. The result of the study revealed that, the increase in AR than BR values for RBC, Hemoglobin, PCV, Lymphocyte% were found significant and no significant differences were found in case of MCH, MCHC, Platelet, WBC, Neutrophil% and Eosonophil %. Conclusion: Conclusively RBC, Hemoglobin, PCV, Lymphocyte% displayed significant incensement in relation to acute aerobic exercises

    Effect of basketball specific endurance circuit training on aerobic capacity and heart rate of high school male basketball players

    The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a basketball specific endurance circuit training on aerobic capacity and heart rate of high school male basketball players. To achieve the purpose of the study twenty four (24) male high school basketball players were selected from Neyveli Lignite Corporation Sports School, Neyveli and St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Manjakuppam, Cuddalore. These subjects were randomly distributed into two groups namely basketball specific endurance circuit training group (N=12) and control group (N=12). The mean age of the selected players was 16.85 ± 0.67. Aerobic capacity, resting heart rate and peak heart rate were selected as criterion variables. Aerobic capacity was measured by multistage fitness test and resting and peak heart rate was measured using polar heart rate monitor. The basketball specific endurance circuit training was administered 3 days per week for six week. They performed 2 minutes of work at 90 to 95% of targeted heart rate using Karvonen method. They performed 8 repetitions during first and second week, followed by 10 repetitions during third and fourth week and 12 repetitions during fifth and sixth week of training. This was followed by 2 minutes of active resting at 60 to 70% of targeted heart rate. In this study 1:1 work rest ratio was followed. Both the groups were tested before and after training, the collected data was analysed using ANCOVA. The result of the study showed that aerobic capacity, resting heart rate and peak heart rate between the groups was significant, it indicate that after adjusting pre-test scores, there was a significant difference between the two groups on post-test scores. The findings of the study show that significant increase in aerobic capacity and decrease in resting and peak heart rate. It can be concluded that basketball specific endurance circuit training is effective in improving aerobic capacity and increases the cardiovascular fitness of male high school boys during competitive phase

The average age of the subjects was 40 to 80 years. Criterion Variables: - A self-constructed attitude questionnaire was used as tool. Statistical Technique: - Descriptive statistics i.e. percentile method was used. Results:- it was fund that 87% people walk, Run, and Exercise for better health, 80% for physical fitness, 34% for overcoming aging, 49% for improving digestion, 14% for leisure time recreation, 19% to meet his friends, 9% for time pass, 30% to rehabilitate diabetes, 24% to rehabilitate blood pressure, 23% to overcome heart disease, 29% to overcome arthritis, 5% to show as social status, 7% to discuss local politics, 63% to get fresh air, and 8% to overcome asthma, 48% people come which believe that walking, running, jogging exercise, or yoga is good for improving physical health, 36% for improving mental health, 24% for improving emotional health, 13% for improving social health, 67% for improving total health, 85% people are in favour of implementing Physical Education, Sports and Yoga for All level of Education, 88% people give his your opinion that govt. should provide good parks for exercise for citizens, 90% people believe that Indian politicians should be physically fit like European countries politicians, and 93% people believe that India need to have more sports grounds than hospitals. Conclusion: - Healthy people generally maintain positive attitudes toward fitness. It was concluded that mostly people walk, Run, and do Exercise for better health, and come to walk for remaining themselves physical fit, and every people should involve in Physical activity

    Effect of Four Weeks Aerobic Exercise Training on Body Mass Index and Vital Capacity in Obese College Male: A Pilot Study

    Introduction: The purpose of the present study was to find out the effect of four weeks Aerobic exercise training on body mass index and vital capacity in male student. Aerobic means ?with oxygen ?and refers to the oxygen in the body‘s metabolic process. Aerobic exercise programme such as on spot marching, hopping, running, walking, bicycling and jogging exercises for weight loss and vital capacity. There are many benefits for health and well-being to gain from regular aerobics exercise. Methods: For this purpose ten obese male students were selected randomly from Pt. Kundanlal Shukla Mahavidyalaya, Kanpur Dehat (U.P). The subject‘s age ranged between 18 to 25 years. Their Body mass index ranged between is 25-29.9. Data were collected before and after four weeks aerobics exercise training programme. To find out the significance difference between pre and posttest means score of body mass index and vital capacity. Data collected from the subjects was statistically analyzed by?t‘ test. Result and discussion: The result of the study showed that there was significant difference between pre-test and post-test, as the calculated value of body mass index and vital capacity respectively (2.92*, 4.83*) was found more than the tabulated ?t‘ value (2.26) at level of significance. The training was more effective for the subjects and the study confirmed that the effect of aerobic exercises has played a significant role in weight reduction of obese male as well as vital capacity. Conclusion: The Aerobic exercise has beneficial effects on Body Mass Index and Vital Capacity. It is help for obese male students to loss of weight and improvement of the vital capacity

    Echocardiographic Study of Cardiac Structure in Cyclists and Runners

    We sought to study the cardiac morphology of cyclists and runners in male and female athletes and control subjects and to find association cardiac morphological measurements with body composition measurements. Endurance training is associated with increases in both left ventricular mass (LVM) and left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD). Cardiac morphology shows sports specific adaptations which are studied in the two groups, runners involving lower limb and cyclists involving upper limb. 28 runners and 26 cyclists were taken to do a comparison study with 38 control subjects, aged between 18-25 years of age and comprising of males and females both. All participants underwent transthoracic echocardiography and hydrostatic underwater weighing for body composition along with routine measurements. Athletes showed enlarged LV dimensions and mass (p<0.05) as compared to controls. Right ventricular and aortic root dimensions were also found to be significantly higher in athletes (p<0.05). Lean tissue mass was found to be independent predictor of LVM. Increased LV wall thickness in relation to the ventricular dimension appears to be proportionate in runners; it is disproportionate in cyclists, probably because of the isometric training component involved during upper limb training cycling. Hence runners show eccentric hypertrophy and cyclist showed mixed eccentric and concentric hypertrophy. LVM was found to be correlated only to lean tissue mass. The extent of LV remodeling (athletic heart) in trained individuals may reflect a normal physiologic response to increased lean tissue mass induced by training
