    Predominance of Selected Anthropometric Measurements and Motor Fitness Components on Playing Ability of Basketball Players

    The study was intended to select the minimum number of determinant variables (anthropometric measurements & motor fitness components) that would provide highest multiple correlation co-efficient with the criterion variable (basketball playing ability) and to compute a multiple regression equation. Twenty basketball specialization students of Annamalai University, were selected as subjects with an informed consent. The age of the selected subjects ranged from 18 through 22 years. The study was restricted to the objective assessment of selected anthropometric measurements (neck girth, axillary arm girth, biceps girth, forearm girth, wrist girth, hand length, palm length, shoulder girth, chest girth, waist girth, thigh girth, calf girth, ankle girth, foot length, foot breadth, standing height, weight) and motor fitness components (back strength, leg strength, agility, flexibility, power, speed) and subjective rating of playing ability by judges. The data thus collected have been analyzed by the procedure of Wherry-Doolittle method of multiple correlations as given by Clarke and Clarke. The results show that the obtained multiple correlations co-efficient of 0.9699 is significant at 0.05 level with a forecasting efficiency of 76%. It was also noted that the multiple regression equation derived by this study to assess the basketball playing ability from the selected determinant variables such as leg strength, axillary arm girth and width of the foot has comparatively low standard error of estimate

    Effect of High Intensity Interval Training on Antioxidants of Male Physical Education Students

    The purpose of this study is to find out the efficiency of high intensity interval training on antioxidants of male physical education students. To achieve the purpose thirty (30) male physical education students were selected from Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Department of Physical Education, Meerut, Utter Pradesh. These subjects were tested on antioxidants before and after eight weeks of high intensity interval training (HIIT). The mean maximal aerobic speed 4.21 m/s was used as a criterion velocity to set running paces for highintensity interval training. Statistical technique used in the present study was 2×2 ANOVA with repeated measures on last two factors. The result of the study revealed that eight weeks of high intensity interval training resulted in 32.65% of increase in Superoxide dismutase (SOD) (F(1,28) =4.663, p < 0.05) and 8.86% on Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) (F(1,28) = 14.88, p < 0.05). However, 4.92% of reduction is noticed in Catalase (CAT) (F(1,28) = 14.88, p < 0.05). It is concluded that high intensity interval training for eight weeks resulted in significant alterations in antioxidants and which indirectly lowered the lipid peroxidation of male physical education students

    Changes and Predictors of Pre-Service Physical Education Teachers' Subjective Well-Being over the Course of the Semester

    The life of university students is indeed stressful. Assignments, exams, and other study-related variables supposedly decrease students’ subjective well-being (SWB). This study investigated preservice physical education (PE) teachers’ SWB, using the FAHW questionnaire on three different measurement points (beginning of the semester, middle of the semester, and end of the semester). Data analysis revealed surprising results. There were no significant changes of pre-service PE teachers’ SWB over the course of the semester. Additionally, no significant correlations between this study’s variables and the FAHW scales could be found. Therefore, a predictor analysis was pointless. However, the FAHW appeared to be a valid and reliable instrument to assess SWB in this study’s focus group of pre-service PE teachers

    Effect of Physical Exercise on Female Hormone

    Evidence suggested that exercise may change, level of secretion of female hormones such as: Prolactin, Luteinizing, Follicle Stimulating, Estrogen and Progesterone. The researcher intends to concentrate on the function of various female hormone with sources of secretion, method of hormonal test and various problems of female. The prolactin hormone is secreted from anterior pituitary gland and its main function is milk secretion. Pituitary gland secreted Luteinizing hormone and complete development of ovarian follicle to secretary stage and secretion of estrogen are maintained by this hormone. Sources of follicle stimulating hormone is the anterior pituitary hormone gland and it's work is regulating of human reproductive system, progesterone and menstrual cycle. Estrogen is secreted form ovary and it is responsible for puberty changes, proliferation stages of menstruation, growth of uterus during pregnancy, exert synthesis action with oxytosin. Progesterone hormone comes from Carpus lutem, Placenta, Adrenal Cortex and it is responsible for premenstrual change of uterine mucosa. One of the best hormonal tests for basal level of PRL, LH, FSH, estrogen and progesterone is Chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA). Following an overnight fasting venues blood sample were taken via a disposable plastic syringe inserted into an antecubital forearm vein. Blood (3ml) was allotted to colt for one hour in a plain test tube(burocell) and then centrifuged (REMI) at 30o Celsius for 5 minutes at 6000 rev min -1 to separate the serum form the cell before proceeding with CLIA test. Infertility, irregular menstrual cycle, decreases in sex drive, unable to breast feeding after child birth are the common problem due to imbalance in female hormonal secretion

    Effect of Visual Skill Fitness Training Programme on Selected Psychomotor Variables of Male Volleyball Players

    To achieve this purpose, 30 Volleyball players were selected randomly as subjects for this present study. The subjects selected (N=30), were assigned randomly into two groups namely experimental group-1and control group, consisting of 15 each. Thus they were named experimental group-1 as Visual Skills Fitness Training Group (VSFTG), and Control Group (CG). Their age was fixed in the range of 19 – 24 years. VSFTG underwent visual skill fitness training programme for two days a week for about twelve weeks. Subjects in the control group were not engaged in any activity. Before and after the training period data will be taken to all the subjects. The collected data were processed with Paired t-test was used. The obtained result was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The results of the study show that experimental group shows better improvement on selected psychomotor variables when compared to control group

    Interval Training is the newly used training program because of its effectiveness in developing both the aerobic and lactate energy systems. However, there are controversies due to different kinds of training program in choosing and using them to trains an athlete. Therefore, this study was aimed to see the effect of 6-week new interval training protocol on running performance of MIE track trainee athletes. Depending on scientific evidence researchers hypothesized that there will be significant difference between pre and post-test performance for middle (800m, 1500m) and long(3Km,5Km &10Km) distance runner. Longitudinal experimental research design was used; pertaining to data collection pre and post and athletes performed interval training 6- 8sessions over 6 weeks conducted on 15 male and 15 female elite athletes. Statistical analysis such as percentages, mean, standard deviation paired sample t-test, tables and figures by entering the data into SPSS version-20. Thirty elite athletes of age: 18±2yrs; height 167 ± 5.8centimeter; weight 51.2± 4.29Kg. Significance difference was observed at P<0.05. The athletes showed significant performance improvement in their respective events

    Comparison of Leg Strength Gripstrength and Back Strength among the Wrestlers Weightlifters and Jodokas of College Students

    The purpose of the study was to compare the leg strength, grip strength and back strength among the Wrestlers’, Weightlifters and judokas of college students. The subjects were selected from the Wrestlers’ Weightlifters and Judokas of different degree colleges in Jharkhand for this study. Ten (10) male athletes from each group namely Wrestling, Weightlifting and Judo were selected as the subject for the study. Variables such as leg strength, grip strength and back strength were presented to compare the student athlete belonging to Wrestling, Weightlifting and Judo. To see the significant difference of leg strength, grip strength and back strength among the student athletes belonging to Wrestling, Weightlifting and Judo the analysis of variance “F-ratio” was applied at.05 level of significance. For further analysis “Post-Hoc Test” (LSD Test) was applied. There is a significant difference in leg strength among Wrestlers, Weightlifters and Judokas as calculated F (4.04) is greater than Tabulated F (3.35).The Weightlifters shown significantly different level of leg strength (192.5) in comparison to Wrestlers (165.8) and Judokas (163.5). However, the Wrestlers and Judokas had shown more or less same level of leg strength. In case of back and grip strength there was no significant differences among Wrestlers, Weightlifters and Judokas as their calculated F (1.89) and (1.73) is lower than tabulated F (3.35) respectively. However, there were small ranges of variations as Weightlifters had the greater mean value (141.5) than Wrestlers (128.3) and Judokas (132.9) and Judokas had the greater mean value (52.7) than the Wrestlers (51.1) and Weightlifters (49.3) in relation to back strength and grip strength respectively

    The Effects of a Pre-Workout Energy Drink on Measures of Physical Performance

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a pre-workout commercial energy drink on parameters of exercise performance, including anaerobic power, muscular endurance, speed, and reaction time. This study used a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled, parallel design. Participants visited the laboratory on two different occasions. On the first visit, participants were assessed for anaerobic power (via a vertical jump test), muscular endurance, reaction time, reactive sprint test, and aerobic power (via a 1.5 mile run). On the second visit, participants were randomly assigned to ingest four ounces of the energy drink beverage or a similar-tasting placebo beverage 30-minutes prior to engaging in these same physical performance tests. The energy drink treatment had no effect on anaerobic power (vertical jump), reaction time, reactive sprint test, or aerobic power. For the push-up to fatigue test, a significant difference (p = 0.014) was observed with the energy drink treatment enhancing performance by 12% as compared to the placebo treatment (improvement of ~ 4%). For the sit-up to fatigue test, a non-significant difference (p = 0.075) was observed with the energy drink treatment resulting in an enhancement of performance by ~13% as compared to no improvement for the placebo treatment. In light of these findings, individuals whose upper-body muscular endurance performance is part of their physical fitness assessment program may benefit from pre-workout energy drink consumption. In contrast, individuals needing to demonstrate anaerobic/aerobic power, or reactive abilities should not expect an improvement in performance from pre-workout energy drink consumption

    Estimation of Relationship between Maximal Oxygen Consumption and Repeated Sprint Ability of Male Handball Players

    The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between maximal oxygen consumption and repeated sprint ability of male university handball players. Twenty seven (27) male university handball players were selected from Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Annamalai University, who voluntarily participated in this study (age: 21.62 ± 1.90 years; height: 172.07 ± 7.25 cm; body weight: 64.59 ± 9.92 kg). Multistage 20 m shuttle run test was used for the estimation of maximal oxygen uptake and total distance covered. Repeated sprint ability was measured by 7×30 meters sprint with 25 second recovery. The results of product moment correlation analysis showed significant correlation between maximal oxygen consumption with fatigue index (r = 0.965, p = 0.000), fast sprint time (r = 0.772, p = 0.000), slowest sprint time (r = 0.875, p = 0.000) and mean sprint time (r = 0.807, p = 0.000). The findings of the present study indicated significant negative correlation among maximal oxygen consumption and repeated sprint ability of male handball players. This clearly shows that players with greater aerobic capacity will have better repeated sprint ability

    Service and Repeated Volley Skills among Volleyball Players: A Relationship Study

    Present study examined the relationship between Service and Repeated Volley Skills among Volleyball Players. Total twenty five (N-25) female volleyball players their age ranged from 17 to 19 years were selected as subject from Navodaya Vidyalaya School, Sector25, Chandigarh. Service and Repeated Volley abilities were measured by administrating RussellLange Volleyball Skill Test. The data was analyzed statistically by computing Pearson Product Moment Correlation method to find out the relationship between service and repeated volley skills among female volleyball players. Results revealed the significant relationship between service with repeated volleys as the coefficient of correlation value of .593 was statistically significant at 0.01 level
