A Comparative Study of Cardiovascular Endurance between Government and Private High School Going Boys of Dbrugarh District of Assam
The purpose of the study was to determine the difference of Cardiovascular Endurance between Government and Private High Schools boys of Dibrugarh district of Assam. 80 (Eighty) boys from Government High School (40) and Private High School (40), age ranging from 14 to 16 years were selected as the subject. The data pertaining to the study were collected by employing the Modified Harvard Step Test and the t-ratio statistical technique was employed to compare the mean value at 0.05 level of confidence. On the basis of result it was conclude that insignificant difference was observed in the Cardio Vascular Endurance between both the groups. It was also observed that the Government High School going boys have better Cardiovascular Endurance than Private High School going boys
Successful Youth Performance Does not Relate to Future Senior Performance in Elite Taekwondo Competitors
The purpose of the study was to analyze the prevalence of successful performance in the youth category on future senior performance in elite Taekwondo competitors. A chart analyses on the records of the World Taekwondo Federation was performed to identify winners of a medal between the 1st and 8th World Youth Championships and which ones also managed to win a medal between the 13th and 20th World Senior Championships. An 8.5% of youth athletes obtained medals at the World Championships (Males = 7.7% and Females = 9.3%, P > 0.05). There was a 2.1% of the athletes who won a gold medal at both, the World Youth and the World Senior Championships (Males = 1.9% and Females = 2.2%, P > 0.05). The low association between youth and the senior success involves consideration regarding the processes of preparation for elite Taekwondo competition in the early ages
Effect of High Intensity Interval Training on and Anaerobic Capacity and Fatigue Index of Male Handball Players
The purpose of this study is to find out the efficiency of high intensity interval training on anaerobic capacity and fatigue index of male handball players. To achieve the purpose thirty (30) male handball players were selected from Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Tamilnadu, India. These subjects were tested on anaerobic capacity and fatigue index before and after eight weeks of high intensity interval training (HIIT). The mean maximal aerobic speed 4.21 m/s was used as a criterion velocity to set running paces for high-intensity interval training. Statistical technique used in the present study was ANCOVA for anaerobic capacity and fatigue index. The result of the study revealed that eight weeks of high intensity interval training resulted in 28.58% in anaerobic capacity (F(1,27) =28.54, p < 0.05) and fatigue index (F(1,27) =14.11, p < 0.05). It is concluded that high intensity interval training for eight weeks resulted in improvement of anaerobic capacity and fatigue index of male handball players
Changes Observed on Speed and Agility of Male Handball Players during a Handball Match
The study was proposed to investigate the changes observed on speed and agility of male handball players during a handball match and it also intend to assess the difference among different playing position. We selected twelve (12) university represented male handball players from Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Annamalai University, Tamilnadu. The selected subjects were classified into three groups with respect to playing position (back court players – 6, wing players – 4 and pivot players – 2). However, in the present study goalkeepers were excluded from the study. The result of the study showed that speed and agility showed no significant difference between first and second half (p > 0.05) during a handball match. However, the ANOVA showed significant difference on speed and agility on first and second half. The Scheffé S post hoc test showed that a significant difference noted between back – pivot (p = 0.006) and wing – pivot (p = 0.010) on speed. Similarly, on agility back – pivot (p = 0.012) and wing – pivot (p = 0.029) but other comparisons displayed no significant difference. It is concluded that 60 minutes of handball match displayed no changes in speed and agility. However, the position wise comparison showed pivot players slow and less agile than other players
The Impact of Two Curricular Models on Motivation, Engagement and Achievement in Physical Educatio
The purpose of this study was to compare motivation, engagement and achievement in two teaching conditions; one focusing on a skill-drill-game approach, and the second using Sport Education. Forty high school students were randomly selected to participate in either a Sport Education season or a Skill-Drill-Game unit. Post intervention measures of student enjoyment/interest, effort/importance, perceived competence, and pressure/tension were obtained for both groups. A daily gauge of engagement was obtained through pedometry. A pre- and postintervention measure of aerobic fitness was used to assess achievement. ANOVAs indicated a significant difference between groups for effort/importance (p= .012) and enjoyment/interest (p= .005), but not for pressure/tension (p= .762) or perceived competence (p= .218). Three separate oneway ANOVAs indicated that the SEM group took significantly more steps than the SDG group during the introduction and skill practice phase of the season/unit, during the preseason/modified games phase, and also during the regular season/game play phase. ANOVAs indicated a significant difference between groups on both engagement (p= .005) and aerobic fitness (p= .048). The results of this study provide initial, but cautious support for the notion that participation in Sport Education moves students towards more autonomous forms of motivation, which in turn results in greater levels of engagement in classes. The results support Sport Education as a viable curricular model for teachers in order to promote engagement in physical education. The challenge now is to plan studies that formally test this notion, and also use more sophisticated measures of engagement that use both the dimensions of active involvement as well as emotional intensity and effort
Influences of Different Phases of Training on Aerobic Capacity of Male Handball Players
The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of different phases of training on aerobic capacity of male handball players. Twelve (12) male handball players were selected. These twelve players represented Annamalai University in South Zone Inter University handball tournament for the year 2011. The criterion variables selected in this study was aerobic capacity, which was measured in treadmill through Bruce treadmill test. Testing took place at four points during the periodized training year; at the beginnings of general preparation (T1), specific preparation (T2), and competition phase beginning (T3) end of competition phases of training and peaking (T4). A full testing battery was conducted at T1 and T4, while two minor testing sessions were conducted at T2 and T3. The ANOVA revealed a significant change in aerobic capacity of handball players during different phases of training (F = 4.953, p < 0.05). Bonferroni post hoc test revealed no significant difference between all comparisons (all ps > 0.05) on aerobic capacity of handball players. It is concluded that aerobic capacity undergoes significant changes during the different phases of training
A Comparative Study of Sports Competition Anxiety Test between College Level Chess and Cricket Players
The purpose of this study was to compare the sports competition anxiety test between college level chess and cricket players. For the purpose of the study, forty (40) male chess players and forty (40) male cricket players were randomly selected as the subject for this study. The subject age was ranged between 20 to 25 years. In this study sports competition anxiety test (SCAT, Martens et al., 1990) questionnaire was used to measure sports competition anxiety. Sports competition anxiety test questionnaire was distributed between the chess and cricket players one hour before the competition. The hypothesis selected for this study that there would be no significant difference between the chess and cricket players. Descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and independent‘t’ test were used to analysis the data. The level of significance was set at 0.05. The mean score chess players was 19.20 and cricket players was 22.60. The calculated‘t’ value was 3.95 which showed that significant difference was found between chess players and cricket players (calculated‘t’ 3.95 > tabulated‘t’ 1.99)
Effect of a Specific Training Programme on Development of Soccer Playing Ability of 14-Year-Old Young Soccer Players
The game soccer is the world’s most popular team game. High level of conditioning programme is required for better performance. Today sports performance is complex in nature. High level of performance depends not only on fitness but also on individual skill along with technique and tactics. To assess the impact of specific training programme on development of physical fitness and soccer playing ability 18 players were selected from inter district school championship to form experimental group. Similarly 18 players were selected from inter school championship to form control group. Experimental group was given some specific treatment for six weeks but control group had no specific training programme but they used to take part in regular school sports activities. After analyzing pre and post test data of experimental and control group, it was found that the experimental group sigficantly improved their fitness level and soccer playing ability whereas the control group failed to show any improvement than the pre test data. Specific fitness training programme had pronounced influence on soccer playing ability over and above fitness development
Physical Status and Coordinative Abilities among Female Football Players In Relation To Different Playing Positions
The purpose of this study was to examine physical status and coordinative abilities among university level female football players in relation to different playing positions i.e. goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and attackers. A sample of forty (N = 40) female football players (mean ± SD: age 22.17 ± 1.41 years, height 1.61 ± 0.02 m, weight 56.00 ± 1.43 kg, BMI 21.39 ± 0.70), which includes ten each goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and attackers, who participated in inter-college competitions of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India, was selected. All the participants were informed about aim and methodology of the study and they volunteered to participate in this study. The study was conducted on selected coordinative abilities i.e. orientation ability, differentiation ability, reaction ability and balance ability. One way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was applied to find out the significance of differences with regard to coordinative abilities among female goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and attackers in football. Scheffe’s post-hoc test (SPHT) was applied to see the direction and significance of differences where ‘F’ value found statistically significant. The level of significance was set at 0.05. While comparing the means, it is revealed that goalkeepers had better orientation ability, reaction ability and balance ability than their counterparts; defenders, midfielders and attackers. It is also observed that attackers had better orientation ability, reaction ability and balance ability than their counterparts; defenders and midfielders.However, defenders showed better differentiation ability than goalkeepers, midfielders and attackers. Further, significant differences were found between football players of different playing positions with regard to orientation ability (p ? 0.05) and balance ability (p ? 0.05) but insignificant differences were found with regard to differentiation ability (p ? 0.05) and reaction ability (p ? 0.05)
Comparison of Selected Cardiovascular Profiles between Novice and Trained Soccer Players
The study was proposed to compare the selected cardiovascular profiles between novice and trained soccer players. To achieve this purpose of the study, thirty-seven (37) male soccer players from Malappuram district in Kerala state in the age group of 14 through 18 years were selected as subjects. The selected subjects were confined to the categorization made on the basis of training status (novice and trained). The cardiovascular profiles chosen as criterion variables were heart rate and stroke volume. Echocardiography was used to assess the selected criterion variables by adopting standardized procedures. The data thus collected were statistically examined by applying independent sample T test to find out the significant variation between groups. The α value of 0.05 was set for statistical significance. The outcome of the study demonstrates the existence of significant difference between novice and trained soccer players on heart rate and stroke volume, and thereby it implies that the training status has a statistically significant influence on heart rate and stroke volume
