Motivation to Move with Exergaming in Online Physical Education
Motivation to move is critical in online physical education (OLPE). This study looked at the motivational aspect of remote exergaming versus another student versus proximally against a console generated non-player character (NPC). Research shows that students in grades 4-12 are motivated to play exergames because they are native gamers. The entertainment value of the exergame garners more effort from the students than they realize they are expending. This research showed that exergames are motivating for students (N=124) aged 11-18 in grades 6-12. The subjects reported high motivation to participate while playing both a computer-generated NPC and a remote human opponent over the internet. Scores for motivation were highest when subjects played another student over the internet but were also high for proximal NPC play. This research positions exergaming as a potential piece of OLPE curriculum that can help students access the emotional aspect of physical education curriculum
Comparison of Aerobic and Anaerobic Power between University Men Football and Hockey Players
The purpose of the study was to compare the aerobic and anaerobic power between university men football and hockey players. To achieve the purpose of this study, thirty male football and thirty male hockey players were selected as subjects from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Annamalai University and their ages ranged from 19 to 25 years. The criterion variables selected in present study were aerobic and anaerobic power. These were measured using 12 minutes run/walk test and Margaria Kalamen anaerobic power test. To compute the difference between football and hockey players independent t test was calculated. The result showed that there was no significant difference between football and hockey players on aerobic and anaerobic power (p > 0.05). It was concluded that there was no significant difference between football and hockey players in aerobic and anaerobic power. This may due to the fact that, basically football and hockey players having the same qualities aerobic and anaerobic performance. So, the difference may not be achieved between each of them
Investigation of Varied Intensity Interval Sprint Training and Detraining Impact on Selected Speed Parameters
The objective of this study is to determine the effect of varied intensity interval sprint training and detraining impact on selected speed parameters. To achieve the purpose of the study 45 male students were selected and randomly assigned into three groups of 15 each. Group-I (n=15) underwent high intensity interval sprint training, group-II (n=15) underwent moderate intensity interval sprint training and group-III (n=15) acted as control. The duration of the training programme was 12 weeks with three sessions per week on alternative days. Speed, speed endurance and anaerobic power were assessed prior to and immediately after 12 weeks of training and also during the period of cessation of experimental treatment for 40 days at an interval of every 10 days, from high and moderate intensity interval sprint training groups and control group. The obtained data was analyzed statistically by analysis of covariance and 3 x 5 factorial ANOVA with repeated measures on last factor. Findings of the study revealed significant improvement on selected speed parameters whereas significant decrease during the detraining period
Twelve Weeks of Aerobic Dance Impact on Cardiovascular Parameters of Male Obese Adults
The purpose of this study was to investigate the twelve weeks of aerobic dance impact on cardiovascular parameters of male obese adults. To achieve sixty (60) obese men were selected as samples for the experimental study. These subjects age ranged between 25 and 40 years. For this, a purposive sampling technique was used. Those who are diagnosed as obese by the consultant physician of the Pondicherry institute of medical sciences if the body mass index (BMI) was more than normal limits > 27.8. Further, the sample subjects were randomly assigned into almost two equated groups, namely Aerobic dance group (ADG) (n=30) and Control group (CG) (n = 30). All these subjects were residing within radius of one to three kilometers range in grater Puducherry. Blood pressure and heart rate was selected as criterion variable and measured with Omron Blood pressure and heart rate monitor. The aerobic dance training was administered 60 minutes per day for 6 days in a week for total period of 12 weeks. The data was collected before and after 12 weeks of training and analysed using ANCOVA. The result of the study showed that systolic and diastolic blood pressure between the groups was significant, F (1,57) = 7.69 and 4.488, indicating that after adjusting pre-test scores, there was a significant difference between the two groups on post- test scores on systolic and diastolic blood pressure. In contrast, heart rate found to be not significant, F (1,57) = 3.33. The findings of the study show that systolic and diastolic blood pressure tends to decrease as a result of aerobic dance training. It is concluded that aerobic dance is the proper physical activity form for 30-40 years old men obese subjects for developing cardiovascular system capacity. The stress on the cardiovascular system is minimised due to aerobic dance which was fun and recreative. This might improve the life status of the obese subjects
Effects of Practicing Yogasanas and Physical Training on Selected Physiological Variables
The study was intended to substantiate the relative effects of yogasana practices and physical training on selected physiological variables. To achieve the purpose sixty male students aged 15 through 18 years were selected as subjects from Govt. Junior College, Ponnalur, Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh. The subjects selected were equated on the basis of their cardiorespiratory endurance and segregated them into two groups: Group I – yogasana practice group and Group II – physical training group of thirty subjects each. The criterion variables confined to this study were systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate. The experimental programme is five days a week for eight weeks in the morning session. The one-way analysis of variance was used to test the statistical significance. The results of the study reveal that there was no significant difference among the yogasana practices and physical training on systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate. It suggests that practicing yogasanas is better as compared to isometric exercise training in improving the blood pressure and pulse rate
Application of Gps Technology to Create Activity Profiles of Youth International Field Hockey Players in Competitive Match-Play
Purpose: The purpose of this project was to utilise global-positioning system (GPS) technology to understand the physical demands of youth international field hockey. Methods: Sixteen male field hockey players (age 17.1 ± 0.6 y, stature 165 ± 11 cm, body mass 63.3 ± 6.6 kg, estimated VO2max, 52.6 ± 5.3 ml/kg/min) were investigated while competing in 6 matches at the 2011 Boy’s Under-18 Asia Cup. Each player wore a GPS unit during competition to track his movement. These movements were classified as either low-speed activity (4.17 m/s). Positional differences were analysed using magnitude-based Cohen’s effect size with modified qualitative descriptors. Results: Forwards covered the most distance per minute across total distance, low-speed activity and high-speed activity in the 6 youth international field hockey matches. For high-speed activity there was a “Large” difference between the Defenders and Midfielders and a “Very Large” difference between the Defenders and Forwards. Conclusion: In youth international field hockey, Forwards cover the greatest amount of distance and carry out the most high-speed activity, while Defenders perform the least amount of high-speed activity. This suggests that these playing positions are sufficiently different to warrant specialised positional training
Relationship of Heart Rate with Oxygen Consumption of adult male workers from Service and Manufacturing Sectors
The purpose of the present study was to find a relationship between Heart Rate (HR) and Oxygen Consumption of industrial workers. HR and Oxygen Consumption of 135 adult males from service sector and 49 adult male from manufacturing sector in the age group of 40-50 years were measured by direct (breath-by-breath technique using Cortex Metamax 3B) measurement using computerized Bi-cycale ergometer. The correlation coefficients of HR with oxygen consumption of Service and Manufacturing sectors were 0.82 and 0.81 and Mean Square Error were 24.02 and 29.54. These two group were merged (135+49=185) and an Experimental group was formed (Phase I). In Phase II Prediction equation for oxygen consumption was developed from the regression analysis. The correlation coefficient of HR with oxygen consumption was 0.82 and Mean Square Error (MSE) was 24.27. In Phase III 100 new subjects (Validation group) were chosen at random from service and manufacturing sector. There oxygen consumption was determined by using laboratory technique and also by prediction equation developed in phase II. Test-retest correlation values showed high correlation coefficient 0.85 and MSE 16.24. The higher correlation value shows the accuracy of the prediction equation developed in the present study
Comparative Relationships of Selected Physical Fitness Variables among Different College Students of Mekelle University Ethiopia Africa
The purpose of the present study was to experiment, measure and compare the level of physical fitness among different college students of Mekelle University (MU), Endeyesus main campus. From a total population of 2738, the sample consisted of three hundred forty nine (N=349) first year male students with mean ±SD; Age: 19.92±.909, weight: 57.08±4.233, & height: 1.6887±.05739. The samples were selected using random sampling technique. FITNESSGRAM testing battery was used to measure physical fitness level of the students. To measure endurance of the cardiovascular fitness of the subjects, one mile run test was administered. To assess the abdominal muscle strength & endurance, curl-ups test was applied. Trunk lift Test was used to evaluate the strength and flexibility of trunk extensor, and Back-Saver Sit and Reach test was used to measure lower back and hamstring flexibility of the subjects. To compare the mean differences among different college students one-way analysis of variance (F Ratio) was applied with the help of SPSS (version, 16.00) Software. To test significant mean differences Scheffe’s Post Hoc Test was applied. The level of significance was set at 0.05. There were statistically significant mean differences obtained in cardiovascular fitness, abdominal muscle strength and endurance, and strength and flexibility of trunk extensor among different college students except lower back and hamstring flexibility about which no significant mean differences was seen. The finding reveals that students from the CDANR exhibited superior performance in CVF and AMSE. On the other hand, students from CNCS demonstrated better performance on BEMSF than students from the other two colleges (CDANR and EIT-M) but statistically no significant mean difference was showed on LBHMF among CNCS, CDANR, and EIT-M students. From these findings, it is concluded that statistically significant difference had been shown in CVF, AMSE, and BEMSF except LBHMF which did not show statistically significant difference
Effect of Yoga Practices on Total Cholesterol Triglycerides and Uric Acid among Women Diabetic Patients
The purpose of the present study was to find out the effect of yoga practices on total cholesterol, triglycerides and uric acid among women diabetic patients. For this purpose, thirty women diabetic patients (type – I) around Annamalainagar, Chidambaram, Cuddalore District, Tamilnadu in the age group of 35 – 40 years were selected. They were divided into two equal groups, each group consisted of fifteen subjects, in which group – I underwent yoga practices and group – II acted as control that did not participate in any special activities apart from their regular day-to-day activities. The training period for this study was six days in a week for twelve weeks. Prior to and after the training period the subjects were tested on total cholesterol, triglycerides and uric acid. Total cholesterol, triglycerides and uric acid were tested after taking 10 ml (5 ml separately for uric acid test) of blood samples by venous puncture method, by using Boehringer Manheimm Kit Method. The Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to find out any significant difference between the pre- and post-test means and any significant difference that was exists between the yoga practice group and control group on selected criterion variables. The result of the study shows the yoga practice has decreased the total cholesterol, triglycerides and uric acid significantly (P > .05). It was concluded from the results of the study that yoga practice has bring positive changes in total cholesterol, triglycerides and uric acid and it was due to the performance of various asana postures
A Comparative Study on Selected Physical Fitness Components between Deaf & Dumb and Normal School Boys of West Bengal
Objective: The objective of the study was to compare the selected physical fitness components between the Deaf & Dumb and Normal school boys of west Bengal.
Methodology: For the purpose of the study forty-two (N=42)) subjects were randomly chosen of which twenty-two were deaf and dumb boys (n1=22) and twenty were normal school boys (n2=20). The age of the children ranged from 12 to 20 years. They were selected from three separate districts of West Bengal - Kolkata, Burdwan and Hooghly. The five different physical fitness components i.e. Speed, Agility, Muscular endurance, Flexibility and Explosive leg strength were considered as variables for the present study. The data were collected by using standard tools and techniques.
Statistics: Mean, standard deviation (SD) and independent t- test were the statistics used in this study for data interpretation. Level of significant difference between two groups was set at p<0.05. For statistical calculations Excel Spread Sheet of windows version 7 was used.
Results: Result of present study revealed that in Speed, Agility and Muscular Endurance no significant difference exists between the Normal and Deaf & Dumb Boys. But in Flexibility & Explosive leg strength significant difference exist between the Normal and Deaf & Dumb Boys.
Conclusion: It can be concluded from the results of the study that in flexibility the normal boys are better than the deaf and dumb boys but the Explosive leg strength of the Deaf & Dumb Boys are better than the normal boys
