Analysis of Muscular Endurance among Adolescent School Boys of North-Eastern States of India
In the present pushbutton era most of the adolescent are not participating in leisure activities and concentrate are on studies. Regular physical activity would be important for life’s quality even if it had no relationship to disease and longevity. Physical activity is a significant ingredient in the quality of life, because it increases energy and promotes, physical and mental well being in addition to conferring health benefits. Boys from various schools of [Tripura (TR), Meghalaya (ML), Assam (AS), Mizoram (MZ), Manipur (MN), Nagaland (NL) and Arunachal Pradesh (A.R.)] (N=21000) North-Eastern states of India were selected as subjects at random. Their age ranged from 13 to 15 years (studying from 7th to 10th standard). Muscular endurance was measured by the number of sit-ups in a one minute. The collected data were analyzed by using one-way ANOVA. Among the groups, if any significant difference, scheffe’s post hoc test was used to find out the paired mean difference (P ? 0.05). The results of the study show that the adolescent boys of North-Eastern states were differ on muscular endurance. Hence it was concluded that, age, geographical region, growth, social behaviour, food habits and level of physical activity may influence the muscular endurance of adolescent boys
The Effects of Proximal and Distal Feedback on Rate and Type of Teacher Feedback in a Physical Education Setting
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of feedback given to a target student(s) from proximal sector (close by) and distal sectors (at a distance) on rate and type of feedback of two middle school physical education teachers. The design used in this investigation was a reversal A-B-A-B with two treatments, single case design across subjects. The two treatments (independent variables) were proximal (same sector) feedback and distal (opposite sector) feedback. The results indicated both teachers tended to use more skill feedback and less management feedback with their classes when using distal feedback
Effect of handball specific aerobic training on body composition and VO2 max of male handball players
The aim of this study is to assess the effect of four and eight weeks small-sided handball game on body composition and VO2 max of male handball players. Sixteen (16) male university handball players volunteered to act as subjects and were randomly assigned to small sided handball game group (SSHG) and control group (CG). Small-sided handball game was administered three days in a week for eight weeks. Subjects were measured on percent body fat, lean body mass and VO2 max on three occasions first before administration of training as pretest, after four weeks of training as mid test and after eight weeks of training as post-test. A two-way repeated measure ANOVA with last factor repeated revealed that percent body fat and lean body mass remained unaltered after four and eight weeks of training. However, VO2 max improved (p<0.05). VO2 max showed an improvement of 4.75% after four weeks and 8.83% % after eight weeks of small-sided handball game training in male handball players. This study shows that small-sided handball game (4 vs. 4) is effective in improving aerobic capacity in four and eight weeks of training but body composition elicited no changes
Effect of Fartlek Training on Selected Physiological Parameters among College Male Athletes
The study was proposed to examine the effect of fartlek training on cardiorespiratory endurance, breathe holding time, and pulse rate. To achieve this purpose of the study, thirty male students of SMSS Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Shengottai, were randomly selected, in the age group of fourteen to sixteen years. The selected subjects were divided into two groups. Group I underwent fartlek training programme for twelve weeks and they designated as experimental group. Group II is the control group, which does not undergo any type of systematic training programme during the period of study. The study was restricted to the appraisal of cardiorespiratory endurance, breathe holding time, and resting pulse rate prior to and after experimentation. The pre and post test data of both the groups thus collected were statistically examined by applying analysis of covariance. The outcome of the study demonstrates that statistically significant improvement on cardiorespiratory endurance, while breathe holding time and resting pulse rate were not evolved. It implies that undergoing fartlek training programme confined to this study is worthy enough to enhance cardiorespiratory endurance, but not on breathe holding time and resting pulse rate
Differentials on Passing Ability between Universal Attackers and Blockers of Volleyball Players
The purpose of the study was to find out the differentials on passing ability between universal attackers and blockers of college level volleyball players. To achieve this purpose of the study 15 universal attackers and 15 blockers from various colleges were selected as subjects. The subjects who participated in St. Joseph’s inter collegiate volleyball tournament held at Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, India during the academic year 2013-2014. The age of the selected subjects are ranged from 18 to 25 years. The selected subjects were tested on passing ability through Brady Volleyball Test. The collected data were statistically analyzed using independent t-test. The result of the study showed that no difference exist between universal attackers and blockers of volleyball players on passing ability (t = 0.41, p > 0.05). Analysis of Mood States among Cricket Players during Competitive Season
The aim of the study was to analyze the mood states of high- and low-level cricket players during competitive season. 260 cricket players those participated in the Virudhunagar district cricket league during the year 2012-13 were selected as subjects to achieve the study objectives. The subjects confined to this study were classified into two groups as high- and low-level cricket players on the basis of their competitive standards. The high-level group comprising 130 players selected from A Division teams and low-level group constitutes 130 players selected from B Division teams. The age of the subjects was ranged between 15 and 34 years. Profile of Mood States Questionnaire developed by McNair et al., (1971) was used in the present study. This questionnaire constitutes 65-items which measures five negative scales such as fatigue, depression, tension, anger, confusion and positive scale vigour. The two-way factorial ANOVA with repeated measures on the last factor showed that tension, depression, anger and confusion showed no difference during cricket season between high- and low-level cricket players. However, vigor and fatigue interaction is significant and Scheffé S post hoc test was applied. Vigor and fatigue showed significant difference between the groups at start and mid-season. However, vigor showed significant difference between the groups at end and within low level cricket players. It is concluded that positive factor vigor showed high in high level cricket players than low level cricket players. The cricket season showed fatigue in the middle of the season
Effectiveness of Fartlek Training on Maximum Oxygen Consumption and Resting Pulse Rate
The rationale of this study was to appraise the outcome of the twelve weeks of supervised fartlek training programme on selected physiological parameters. For this purpose twelve male athletes from Dr. S. Ramadoss Arts and Science College, Virudhachalam, in the age group of 20 to 22 years took part in the study. The selected subjects were subjected to twelve weeks of farlek training programme. The selected criterion variables namely: maximum oxygen consumption and resting pulse rate were assessed using standard tests and procedures, prior to and subsequent to the training regimen. The pretest and posttest data collected on criterion variables were statistically examined by applying ‘t’ test to find out the significant difference if any. The analysis of data revealed that twelve weeks of farlek training programme significantly improved maximum oxygen consumption and resting pulse rate. These findings propose that the experimental variable has the significant influence in improving the selected criterion variables
Effects of 6-Weeks Yogasana Practice on Physiological Fitness Status of University Level Girls
Thus the aim of this study was to determine the effect of 6-week yogic practices on physiological fitness status of university level girls. The research population included, sixty (N=60) female between the age group of 18-25 years were selected as subjects from department of physical education (T).The subjects were purposively assigned into two groups: Group-A: Experiental (N1=30) and Group-B: Control (N2=30). All the subjects were informed about the objective and protocol of the study. The subjects from Group A were subjected to 6-week of yogic practices. The training consisted of a variety of yogic asanas: (i.e., Standing Postures, Balancing Postures and Backward/Forward Bending Postures). The 6-week yogic practices brought about significant improvement in cardiovascular endurance (t = 8.92), body composition (t = 16.64), muscular strength & endurance (t = 8.52) and flexibility (t = 15.31) in Group (A) as compared with the control one. The 6-week yogic practices had significant effect on cardiovascular endurance, body composition, muscular strength & endurance and flexibility
Analysis of Endurance among Different Levels of School Handball Players
The purpose of the study was to analysis endurance among different levels of school handball players. Sixty (60) male players were selected they were divided into three groups (20) twenty in each. They were classified into junior, senior and super senior these boys were selected from AGM Higher secondary school, Thuraiyur. The subjects age range between 10 to 17 years was selected. Endurance was selected as criterion variable and tested by 600 yard run. ANOVA test was used to compare the mean differences between the three groups. The result showed that there was no significant difference existing among these groups on endurance (F = 3.78, p> 0.05). It is concluded that endurance among different levels of handball players remain similar
Effects of Interval Continuous and Alternate Pace Running on Cardio Respiratory Endurance
The purpose of the study was to find out the effects of interval continuous and alternate pace running on cardio respiratory endurance. To achieve this purpose, sixty men students in the department of physical Education and sports sciences, Annamalai university, Tamilnadu, India were selected as subjects at random. The selected subjects were divided into four equal groups of fifteen subjects each, such as interval running group, continuous running group, alternate pace running group and control group. The group I underwent interval training programme, Group II underwent continuous running programme and group III underwent alternate pace running for three days per week for twelve weeks. Group 1V acted as control group which did not participate any special training programmes apart from their regular physical education activities as per their curriculum. The age groups of the subjects were ranged from 18 to 24 years. Cardio respiratory endurance was selected as criterion variable and measured through Cooper’s 12 minutes run and walk test. All the subjects of four groups were tested on selected criterion variables at prior to and immediately training programme. The analysis of covariance revealed a significant adjusted post test mean (F = 113.63, p < 0.05). It is concluded that cardio respiratory fitness improved better in continuous method than interval and alternate pace method
