A Study of Vertical Jump Performance among U-19 Volleyball Players by Playing Positions
The purpose of this study was to compare the vertical jump performance among under-19 age group male volleyball players by playing positions. A sample of Forty eight (N = 48) male volleyball players (mean ± SD: age 18.35 ± 0.56 years, height 182.23 ± 5.12 cm, weight 75.56 ± 5.77 kg, BMI 22.67 ± 1.26), which includes twelve each blockers, setters, liberos and spikers, who participated in inter-district school competitions, was selected from various schools affiliated to Punjab School Education Board. All the participants were informed about aim and methodology of the study and they volunteered to participate in this study. Vertical jump test was conducted to see the vertical jump performance of the subjects.One way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was applied to find out the significance of differences with regard to vertical jump performance among blockers, setters, liberos and spikers. Scheffe’s post-hoc test (SPHT) was applied to see the direction and significance of differences where ‘F’ value found statistically significant. The level of significance was set at 0.05. While comparing the means; it revealed that blockers had better explosive leg power than their counterparts, while liberos had shown less explosive leg power than their counterparts. Further, significant differences were found between blockers and liberos with regard to power (p˂ 0.05)
Different Fitness Attributes of Adolescent Badminton and Volleyball Players - A Comparative Study
The purpose of the study was to compare the physical fitness variable of Badminton and volleyball male Players. To fulfill the objective of the study, (15 Badminton male players and 15 volleyball male players) subjects were selected from south 24 parganas District of West Bengal State who was attending district level competition. The data were collected in different clubs. The age of the selected subjects ranged from 15 to 18 years. (Pull ups, sit ups, 4*10m shuttle run, 50m run, 600m run) were used to measures the selected physical fitness variables of the players. A Study on the Awareness of Physical Activities among Teachers in Relation to Their Sex, Age and Type of School
The study was designed to study the awareness of physical activities among teachers in relation to sex, age and type of school. A self made questionnaire was developed and administered. The data was collected from 100 teachers of secondary level from government, private and public schools. The statistical techniques t-test, χ2 test and percentage analysis were used for the analysis of the data. The results revealed (a) No significant difference in the awareness of physical fitness activities among teachers in relation to their sex; age and type of school (b) No significant difference in the use of physical fitness activities among teachers in relation to their sex, age and type of school
The Study on Programmes, Facilities and Achievements in USHA Schools of Athletics
The study on this paper focus on the various programmes, facilities and achievements that are available at USHA School of Athletics, Quilandy, Calicut District, Kerala, India. The personal interview technique was adopted for the collection of data. After obtaining permission to visit the school, through proper channel, the author visited the campus personally for the detailed study with a check list to collect data. The detail of the collected data pattern to the study was classified as General Information, Programmes, Facilities, Achievements and Special Information. Going through the analysis and interpretation of the data, it shows about the detailed information of the school and its vision, mission, various future plans and table wise detailed information about achievements and its diagrammatic representation on both state and national level. In short we can state USHA School of Athletics is best in their organization and administration looking forward its goal for achieving the Olympic medals
A Comparative Study on Growth of Circumference of Different Body Part Influenced by Their Living Altitudes
PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to find out the difference in circumference of different parts of body of 16 years old boys of four different altitudes of Darjeeling, West Bengal, India.
METHOD: The samples are school students. Researcher had taken 100 male students each from Sukhia Pokhari Higher Secondary School (Alt.-7200 ft.), Trunbull higher Secondary school (Alt.-6700 ft.), Jnanpith High school(Alt.-3000 ft.) and Kadamtala High School(Alt.-430 ft.). Researcher had measured height and weight as personal data measured circumference of head, neck, arm relax, flex arm, waist, gluteal, calf and ankle.
RESULTS: It has been observed that there were significant differences in neck, wrist and calf circumference.
CONCLUSIONS: Different growth pattern were observed among four different altitudes. This research paper also reveals the effect of altitude on growth pattern of adolescents
Comparison of Repeated Sprint Ability and Fatigue Index Among Male Handball Players with Respect to Different Playing Position
The intent of the present study was to compare repeated sprint ability and fatigue index among male handball players with respect to different playing position. I have selected thirty two (32) male handball players from Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Annamalai university, Chidambram, Tamilnadu, India. These players were classified into four groups as backs (n = 12), wings (n = 7), pivots (n = 7) and goalkeepers (n = 6) respectively. These selected subjects, who practice handball regularly and take part in competition. The selected subjects mean age: 21.62 ± 1.90 years; weight: 64.59 ± 7.25 kg and height: 172.07 ± 7.25 cm. The volunteered subjects signed a separate consent form to participate in the study. The repeated sprint ability and fatigue index were selected as criterion variables. To evaluate the repeated sprint ability and fatigue index all subjects completed multiple sprint running protocols, which consisted of 7 × 30 m sprints repeated at 25 s intervals. The total sprint time was calculated by summation of all seven sprint time and fatigue index was calculated from sprint times using the following formulae: Fatigue = {(slowest sprint – fastest sprint) / fastest sprint} x 100. The collected data was analysed using one way Analysis of variance (ANOVA). When F ratio was found significant, Scheffe’s post hoc test was applied to know the difference between the four groups. The result of the study showed that total sprint time (F = 6.163, p = 0.002) and fatigue index (F = 4.577, p = 0.010) showed a significant difference among male handball players in different playing position. It denotes that total sprint time and fatigue index found to be best in wing players and poor in goalkeepers. It is concluded that lower total sprint time and fatigue index by repeated sprint ability is an important for wing players as they are the players who perform the most picks and require high levels of aerobic capacity to aid recovery after high-intensity bouts of activity. However, it also required for back court, pivot and goal keepers. It importance cannot be neglected since all the field players in the court gets equal chance for fast break and quick counterattacks. Effect of Aerobic Training on Percentage of Body Fat and Resting Heart Rate among College Obese Women
The aim of the present research was to determine the effect of aerobic training on percentage body fat and resting heart rate among obese women. For this purpose twenty (20) female obese samples (age 17-25) were selected. The subjects were given endurance training for only one session in the morning between 6 am and 7 am for three alternate days a week for six weeks. To analyse the collected data,„t? ratio was used at 0.05level of confidence. The results showed that there was a significant decrease in the percentage of body fat but no changes is elicited on resting heart rate. It was concluded that the aerobic training is widely believed to induce changes in the percentage body fat among obese women
Efficacy of Intensive and Extensive Interval Training on Selected Biomotor Abilities among Schoolboys
The present study was to compare the intensive and extensive interval training effects on selected biomotor abilities among schoolboys. For this purpose, forty-five male students of Okkoor Vellayan Chettiyar Higher Secondary School, Manamadurai, Sivagangai District, in the age group of 16 to 18 years were randomly selected as subjects. The selected subjects were assigned to one of the three groups namely; intensive interval training, extensive interval training and control group of fifteen subjects each. The selected dependent variables such as cardiorespiratory endurance and speed were appraised using methods and instruments of scientific standards. The experimental groups underwent their respective training programme for three days a week for eight weeks. To statistically analyse the changes on criterion variables, ‘ANCOVA’ and Scheffé S test were used. The analysis of data revealed significant improvement on selected criterion variables as a result of experimental treatment. Where, intensive interval training amplified speed significantly, while extensive interval training enhanced cardiorespiratory endurance better. These results suggest that interval training of varied intensity may be adopted according to the need of the player
Effect of Basketball Specific Footwork Training Protocol on Selected Offensive and Defensive Skills in Basketball
The purpose of the study is to find out the effect of basketball specific foot work training protocol on selected offensive and defensive skills in basketball. To achieve the purpose, thirty male basketball players were randomly selected as subjects. The age of the subjects were ranged between 15 to 17 years. The selected subjects were assigned into two groups of 15 subjects each. Group I underwent specific foot work training protocol for three days per week for twelve weeks and group II acted as control. Among the offensive and defensive skills in basketball, shooting ability and defensive movement were selected as criterion variables. The specific foot work training was selected as independent variable. The shooting ability and defensive movement were assessed by speed spot shooting test and defensive movement test respectively. All the subjects of two groups were tested on selected dependent variables at prior to and immediately after the training programme. The data was analyzed using Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The .05 level of confidence was fixed as the level of significance to test the “F” ratio obtained by the analysis of covariance, which was considered as an appropriate. The results of the study showed that the basketball specific foot work training for twelve weeks is more effective in increasing the shooting ability and defensive movement of male basketball players
