Comparison of Cardiovascular Fitness between Adolescent Athletes and Non-Athletes
The purpose of this study was to compare the cardiovascular fitness between adolescent athletes and non-athletes. The present study was conducted on a sample of sixty (N=60) adolescent, which includes thirty each, athletes (N1 = 30, mean ± SD: age 18.0± 0.79 years, height 177.53± 4.68cm, weight 71.53± 5.97kg, BMI 22.67± 1.48) and non-athletes (N2 = 30, mean ± SD: age 17.70± 0.70 years, height 174.80±4.73cm, weight 73.10±5.12 kg, BMI 23.97± 1.29) selected from different schools affiliated to Punjab School Education Board, Punjab, India. Height measurements were taken by using the standard anthropometric rod to the nearest 0.5 cm. The subject’s weight was measured with portable weighing machine to the nearest 0.5 kg. The 12 minute run/walk test was used to assess cardiovascular fitness of subjects. The independent samples t-test was applied to assess the differences between athletes and non-athletes. The results of present study indicated that athletes had significantly greater cardiovascular fitness (p<0.05) than non-athletes
Exercise Effect on Neuropsychological Function - a Review
Research documented that regular participation in physical exercise has a beneficial influence on various aspects of brain function. Human studies reported that cognition and mental performance can be improved with various types of exercise like aerobic exercise, resistance exercise and others. Participations in exercise not only improve the physical health, but also improve their academic performance, job/office performance, reduce illness and injury related to age related decline and also improve sports performance. This article features with the positive effects of exercise on cognition and brain function, at the molecular, cellular systems and behavioral levels. More research investigation on exercise related benefits for specific components of brain and cognitive function is clearly needed in all cross section of human population
Psychological Dimensions of Personality on Padmashree and Former Indian Hockey Captain Zafar Iqbal
The purpose of the present study is to highlight the valuable contribution of Mr. Zafar Iqbal for winning the last gold medal for India in the 1980 Moscow Olympics. He led the Indian team as a captain in various international events, prominent among them were Asian Games in 1982, Champions trophy, 1983, and 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He was honoured by carrying the Indian flag at the youth festival held in Moscow, and later at the opening ceremony of the Los Angeles Olympics. He received the prestigious Arjuna Award in 1983, the highest award given to a sports personality in India. Mr. Zafar Iqbal was recruited as subjects of the study. To find out the score of Arjuna Awardee Zafar Iqbal on Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. The NEO five-factor inventory scale was developed by Costa and McCrae (1991). Results have revealed that Mr. Zafar Iqbal scored average on neuroticism, extraversion and openness dimensions, and low on agreeableness and high on conscientiousness
A Study on Non-Participation of J&K Players at World and Olympic Level “A Descriptive Study”
This study was aimed at finding reasons for non- participation of J&K players at world & Olympic level it was carried out with a group of 90 national & 30 international players who were at peak performance level at their tenure. A self-made questionnaire was developed to measure the most important reasons for non-participation of J&K players at world & Olympic level. Among the reasons were cited were lack of sport facilities, political factors, Sports organizing authorities (J&K State sports Council, Directorate of Youth Services & Sports, Directorate of Physical Education & Sports University of J&K, and Associations & State Government) and player himself to some extent. Based on the results of the study, a number of recommendations were made for education managers and sport administrators & concern government. Contributions of the study were highlighted and suggestions for further research made. Results: The results of the study were that the sports organizing authorities, Sports facilities & associations were responsible for non-participation of J&K players at world & Olympic level
Alternative Home Upper Body Workout Using Water Bottles for Selected College Freshmen Students of Angeles University Foundation
College students tend to be too busy to care about their health with the upcoming pressures and changes to their lifestyle. They are usually way too busy with their academic requirements, social life, and some of them who are also working to support their educational expenses for they do not have any time to enroll at a nearby fitness center. The purpose of this research was to propose a cost free alternative home upper body workout utilizing used water bottles as a free weights equipment to promote strength, endurance and other health-related fitness. The proposed home workout program endorses knowledge and understanding of the students’ participation in a health-related fitness training program. The result of the study heavily relies on the up-close, personal experience, observation and participation of the researcher. The elements of the upper body training program, utilization of used water bottles, and evaluation emerged as tools in designing a practical home upper body workout program for AUF freshmen students
Role of Public Sector Undertakings and Corporate Firms in Identifying and Grooming Sports Talent in India
Sports are a worldwide phenomenon today. In no period of the world history sports was so popular, organized and important as it is today. Considering the importance of sports competitions, one can say that it has become a social need of the present civilization, which must be met by the societies and the government. Although talent identification and development programmes have gained popularity in the recent decades, there remains a lack of consensus in relation to talent identification and there is no uniformly accepted theoretical framework to guide current practice. The success rates of talent identification and development programmes have rarely been assessed and the validity of the models applied remains highly debated. A conceptual framework that acknowledges both genetic and environmental influences and considers the dynamic and multidimensional nature of sport talent needs to be developed and set in action
Comparative Study of Organizational Climate among Physical Education Teachers of Different School Organizations
The purpose of the present study was to compare the Organizational climate among physical education teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Government schools and Public schools of Utter Pradesh. For the purpose of the present study 300 Physical education teachers from different school organizations (100 Kendriya Vidyalayas, 100 Government schools and 100 Public schools) were selected randomly from Utter Pradesh. Keeping the feasibility criterion in mind, Organizational climate Variable was selected for the present study. It was assessed with the help School Organizational Climate Description Questionnaire developed by Dr. Motilal Sharma. To compare the Organizational Climate among Physical Education teachers of different school organizations of Utter Pradesh Descriptive statistics i.e. (Mean, standard deviation), analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post hoc (least significant difference) test was used and the level of significance was set at 0.05 level. The findings of the study showed significant difference in Organizational Climate of different school organizations. As the obtained F-ratio 34.160 was found statistically significant. After applying the post hoc (least significant difference) test it was observed that State Government schools’ Organizational Climate is statistically significantly lower than Kendriya Vidyalayas and Public schools. Whereas there is no statistically significant difference found between the Kendriya Vidyalayas and Public schools. Physical education teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya and Public schools exhibits better climate as compare to Government schools of Uttar Pradesh
Effect of Cycling and Swimming on Cardio-Respiratory Endurance among Long Distance Runners
The purpose of the study was to find out whether there would be any significant improvement on cardiorespiratory endurance as a result of cycling and swimming training among long distance runners. To achieve the purpose of the study, 45 long distance runners from different colleges and SDAT trainees were selected at random within Chennai. The selected subjects were in the age group of 18 to 22 years. The subjects were randomly divided in to three groups of 15 subjects in each group. Group one acted as experimental group I and group two acted as experimental group -II and group three acted as control group. Group three underwent routine without any special treatment and group I underwent cycling exercises and group II underwent swimming exercises for six weeks. Pre test scores were collected on selected criterion variable cardiorespiratory endurance through Coopers’ 12 minutes run/walk test. After six weeks of experimental treatments to the experimental groups, post test score on cardiorespiratory endurance was obtained. The differences between the initial and final score were the effect of respective experimental treatments. To test the statistical significance, the scores were subjected to ANCOVA and Scheffes’ post hoc test. The results of the study proved that cycling and swimming exercises significantly improved cardiorespiratory endurance of the long distance runners

The Effects of Pre-Season Resistance Training Program on Fitness Profile of Female University Softball Players
The game of softball is essentially skill related and needs perfection in throwing, catching, hitting and bases running skills. In addition to technical and tactical skills, muscular strength and power are important factors that give clear advantage for successful participation and performance during tournaments. Strength and conditioning programs for collegiate female athletes are important in helping to prepare them for the sport season, and being incorporated into training schedule can facilitate subsequent improvements in skills and technique. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of resistance training program on fitness profile of female university softball players. A total of 20 healthy female university players were involved in this study. All subjects completed pre-test assessments followed by 6 weeks of intervention training for experimental group (n=10), similar duration of the standard training for control group (n=10) and post-test assessments. Fitness tests included 30m run, sit ups, modified push-ups, standing broad jump, 6x10m agility shuttle run and softball throw. Independent and dependent t-test analyses were administered to compare the effects of administered training within and between the groups. Both groups demonstrated significant improvements at post-test assessment, most parameters in experimental group however showed superior improvements as compared to the control group at the time of the post- testing
