Selected treatment methods for colloid milium – a literature review

    No full text
Introduction and aim. Colloid milium is a rare degenerative skin condition of unknown origin. Typically, it affects sun-exposed areas of the skin. Nevertheless, non-sun-exposed areas may also be affected. Clinically it presents with yellow or red papules, filled with gelatinous masses. There are four subtypes of colloid milium, each with its distinct characteristics: adult, juvenile, nodular, and pigmented. Although diagnosis is primarily clinical, skin biopsy and various staining techniques are required to exclude similar diseases. There is no single effective treatment for colloid milium. Most methods involve the use of lasers, dermabrasion, and oral medications. Yet, the final results differ. Since this topic has not been addressed very frequently in recent literature, the purpose of this review is to present the currently available treatment methods for colloid milium. Material and methods. A literature review was performed to identify the most efficient treatment approaches for colloid milium, focusing on their effectiveness in eliminating nodules and preventing recurrence. Analysis of the literature. Due to its rarity and consequent lack of extensive scientific research, the number of available therapy options for colloid milium is limited. Commonly used treatment methods include lasers, oral medications, dermabrasion, and photodynamic therapy. Microablative fractionated CO2 laser treatment resulted in complete ablation of the lesions with no recurrence. Non-ablative fractional resurfacing after multiple therapies led to the total elimination of the lesions, with no signs of reappearance during follow-up. Dermabrasion required a lengthy healing process. During follow-up no new papules were detected. After multiple sessions of treatment with MAL-PDT, the skin was devoid of nodules and recurrence was prevented. Following full recovery, treatment with the long-pulsed ER:YAG laser revealed the skin without any textural changes, scars, or pigmentation. During follow-up, no new papules were reported. Oral medication provided insignificant results. The majority of patients undergoing these procedures did not need preparation or analgesia. However, non-ablative fractional resurfacing required topical analgesia with 30% lidocaine gel, long pulsed Er:YAG laser treatment demanded intravenous sedation, and dermabrasion involved axillary block analgesia. None of the procedures provoked adverse effects. Conclusion. Skin lesions caused by colloid milium may provoke esthetic concerns, prompting patients to remove them. However, available treatments methods are limited and yield varying outcomes. Among the prominent procedures are microablative fractionated CO2 laser, non-ablative fractional resurfacing, long pulsed ER:YAG laser, and treatment with MAL-PDT, which led to complete ablation, required minimal convalescence time, and provided long-lasting remission. Dermabrasion displayed partial results, with no observed relapse of colloid milium during follow-up. Oral treatment presented the least significant results. Further research is necessary in order to develop new treatment methods for colloid milium that are safe, effective, and affordable

The article raises questions about the influence of Józef Ignacy Kraszewski’s exile experiences on the ways of creating critical subjectivity in Rachunki, especially in the first annual published in Poznań in 1867 under the pseudonym Bolesławita. The analysis includes metatextual statements, metaphors which facilitate the naming of writing tasks and goals, as well as the functions of selected grammatical forms. This allowed me to highlight the importance of the writer’s diagnoses of contemporary times from the perspective of an exile. The article demonstrates that this did not mean a clear self-identification established through the textual strategies applied, but rather influenced the identity instability of the creative subject disclosed in Rachunki.W artykule podjęte zostały pytania o wpływ wygnańczych doświadczeń Józefa Ignacego Kraszewskiego na sposoby kreowania podmiotowości krytycznej w Rachunkach, a zwłaszcza w ich pierwszym roczniku opublikowanym w Poznaniu w 1867 roku pod pseudonimem Bolesławita.

In the 19th century, lively trade and political relations developed between Galicia and the Kingdom of Hungary. These relations shaped the thinking and actions of Hungarian intellectuals. This study presents the opinions of selected Hungarian politicians, writers/journalists, and intellectuals from the technical industry with regard to Galicia. The most commonly perceived problem by them was Galicia’s peripheral location, which marginalized the significance of this province in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy

Widziano w niej system nietrwały i przejściowy. The nation-state system was one of the key issues raised in the National Democracy’s political thought. More specifically, state-system issues in the National Democracy’s political thought were considered in close connection with issues of a world-view character. The need for establishing “a strong government”, viewed as a government composed of the national elite, including individuals that were both valuable for the country and nationally aware, was emphasised. It was believed that the presidential power should be vested in politicians displaying outstanding intellectual and ethical qualifications. The National Democracy’s political thought embraced the concept of a strong parliamentary government elected by the majority of Poles. Criticism was expressed regarding the concept of dictatorship which was said to constitute an undurable and transitional system

From April 1, 2024, in accordance with the regulation of the Minister of National Education, homework in grades IV–VIII is optional and not graded. So the question arises: Do we still need homework? More and more researchers and teachers pay attention to the fact that students do not put much effort into doing their homework, but there is no doubt that completing it skillfully and regularly checking it in grades IV–VIII brings many learning skills. It influences students’ self-development, contributes to improving the effectiveness of learning, and teaches them to critically evaluate their own work and responsibility. There are advantages and disadvantages to assigning homework, but will removing it actually mean that students will have more time to prepare for tests, quizzes, or reading? Aren’t these tasks interdependent? The aim of the article is to analyze changes in homework assignments, to draw attention to their educational aspects, and to deepen reflection on the above topic from the perspective of students and teachers

The Vigitel project was approved by the Ministry of Health’s National Research Ethics Committee for Human Beings (CAAE: 65610017.1.0000.0008).Introduction and aim. The purpose of this study was to describe the profile of physical activity (PA) of Brazilian adults living with diabetes mellitus living in large Brazilian urban centers, as well as to determine whether the practice aligns with the physical activity guidelines recommended for people with diabetes. Material and methods. Cross-sectional data were acquired from the 2020 Surveillance System for Risk and Protective Factors for Chronic Non-communicable Diseases, in which about 54,000 persons aged 18 and older in all Brazilian state capitals were contacted in a telephone survey. Participants reported on their engagement in recreational physical activity and active commuting to school and/or work in the three months preceding the interview, as well as the weekly frequency and duration of these activities. They also stated whether they were living with diabetes. A descriptive analysis was performed, and statistical significance was determined using Pearson’s chi-squared test. Results. In 2020, 7.9% of the population identified themselves living with diabetes. There was a greater frequency among older women and those with less education. Walking, water aerobics, and general gymnastics were the most common kinds of physical activity reported by people with diabetes. Moreover, over half of them (54.5%) were inactive, and 15% matched the physical activity criteria. The majority (90%) practiced PA for 30 minutes or more per day, while 87% of those who were active and exercised 1 to 2 times per week did not meet the requirements of the Ministry of Health. Conclusion. In 2020, 7.9% of the population identified themselves as having diabetes. There was a higher frequency among older women and those with less schooling. In the sample as a whole, approximately 70% of people living with diabetes were inactive (54.5%) or did not meet the minimum BP recommendations for people with diabetes. The duration of each session seemed to be in line with the recommendations, however, the lack of regularity caused by the low weekly frequency meant that the minimum recommended target could not be achieved. Efforts involving the continued monitoring of people living with diabetes and counseling in Primary Health Care to opt for a more physically active life, seem to be promising acts for a healthier life, pending a definitive resolution to the disease

The Covenant with the desert – based on the volume Nof galui einayim by Yehuda Amichai

    No full text
Artykuł Przymierze z pustynią – na podstawie tomu Nof galuj ejnajim Jehudy Amichaja przedstawia obraz Pustyni Judzkiej zawarty w wierszach izraelskiego poety Jehudy Amichaja. The article “The Covenant with the desert – based on the volume Nof galui einayim [Open Eyed Land] by Yehuda Amichai” presents the image of the Judean Desert conveyed in poems of the Israeli poet Yehuda Amichai. In this volume, the Judean Desert is not only a biological and geographical category, but above all a part of the poet’s inner experience. It is a symbolic space, saturated with both personal memories and the collective memory of many generations of Jews, from the times of Masada till the 20th century. In this desert, Amichai, referring to the figure of the Absent God, in whom he had already lost faith, conducts a dialogue with the Jewish religious tradition. However, what attracts him the most to the desert is its silence and emptiness, evoking openness to the Inexpressible, to the world of rocks and minerals, and the prehistory of the Earth, more powerful than anthropology

    No full text
This paper is an attempt to trace the relationships and textual affinities between two short stories: Cyprian Norwid’s “Cywilizacja” (“Civilization”) and Edgar Allan Poe’s “Shadow: A Parable”. The comparative angle is strengthened by the fact that Norwid’s 1852-1853 stay in America may have enabled him to read Poe’s stories soon after their publicationCelem artykułu jest prześledzenie związków i podobieństw intertekstualnych pomiędzy dwiema krótkimi formami prozatorskimi – Cywilizacją Cypriana Norwida i Cieniem Edgara Allana Poego.
