    Counseling is a ’multi refential’ science which is developed from several sciences and other theories.  In the theoretical perspective, counseling must not be regarded as certain view of providing assistance process, rather, it is a body of knowledge developed from various sources such as the influences of certain techniques, the rise of a status as well as appreciation of subjective individual element, understanding of human’s development and knowledge of society.  Counseling process that is not based on theory will mislead councelor and reduce the opportunity to change the client’s behavior.  Islam regards counseling as a virtue as many verses of the Quran and Prophet Tradition (Hadith) discuss the practice of counseling.  It is important for the counselor to master Islamic teaching approach so that they can fulfil the needs to future religious counseling

    is a direct advice to facilitate learners to overcome problems they encounter, and enable them to take the best decision for themselves with full of responsibility.  Concept of psychological strength presented in this paper is promoted by Cavanagh (1982).   Theorists contend that psychological strength constitutes the power to generate an individual to act in all sphere of his life.  The concept of psychological strength consists of three dimensions including: need fulfillment, intrapersonal competencies, and interpersonal competencies.  Seffen (2009) defines psychological strength as one’s personal quality that is reflected in his ability to respect himself and other people in life, including the ability to make good relationship with friends, family, and other person, together with the ability to carry out interpersonal communication.  This personal power can be developed in the process of individual counseling.Copyright © 2013 by Al-Ta'lim All right reservedDOI: 10.15548/jt.v20i2.3

    Character education is a positive offer in the eradication of moral crises which particularly emerged in our students.  Therefore, the internalization of values of character education in the educational institution is a must.  As an Islamic education institution in Indonesia, the existence of Boarding school is considered to be able to develop values of character education which may be done through formal or non-formal curriculum.  This is so because since its early existence, Boarding school has delineated its distinctive feature which is different from the other common types of education.  Here, the implementation of character values have been integrated (within large portion) in the religious subjects.Copyright © 2013 by Al-Ta'lim All right reservedDOI: 10.15548/jt.v20i3.4

    One of the most important agendas of the current education is to link and match between curriculum across educational level and the job together with stakeholders.  To link and match the curriculum of inter education level, it is necessary to understand the vision and mission, the institutional goal, the curriculum and its characteristics.  Besides, it is also important to apply the general principles of curriculum development namely relevance, continuity, and integrated.  Process of curriculum development is of the following steps: (1) identifying the determinant factors in the curriculum development and conducting Need Assessment; (2) identifying the competence or profile of the outputs; (3) identifying knowledge, attitudes, and skills that are necessary for the required competence; (4) arranging the Structure of Curriculum Program, and (5) developing syllabus. Copyright © 2013 by Al-Ta'lim All right reservedDOI: 10.15548/jt.v20i2.3

    Although fun, active, enjoyable and creative learning as stated by Ministry of Education Affairs (2005) has been implemented on the basis of Education Unit Level Curriculum, there is no clear indicator for the implementation for such an approach.  This article discusses fourteen indicators of active learning based on emergent theories.     SMALL AND MEDIUM INDUSTRY FOR SUSTAINING MADRASA IN GLOBAL CHANGE (Study at Darul Ma’rifat Modern Islamic Boarding School in East Java)

    Any types and size of industry is required for the sustainable development of a Boarding School (Madrasa).  Current study at Darul Ma’rifat Modern Islamic Boarding School in East Java is directed to describe: (1) the size and function of industry at Darul Ma’rifat Modern Islamic Boarding School; (2) the life-skill and the enterprenourships capability of the students; and (3) the effect of life-skills and the enterprenourships capability towards self-fulfilment attitude of students. All of the sixth grade students population (542 pupils) were randomly taken to get 226 students sample by using Slovin  formula : n = N / 1 + N. e2. ( n = sample size, 1 = constanta variable, N = population, e = standard error / 0,05). Data were collected through observation, psychological scale and interview. They were then analyzed using regression supported by Statistical Package of Social Science programme. The results show that: (1) There were thirty unit small and medium industry at Darul Ma’rifat Modern Islamic Boarding School. (2) Life-skills and the enterprenourships capability of the students were taught through practice like; working in bread industry and mini market etc. (3) The mean scored of life-skills and the enterprenourships of the students were 82% categorized high.Copyright © 2013 by Al-Ta'lim All right reservedDOI: 10.15548/jt.v20i3.4

    THREE APPROACHES OF WORD MEANING OF THE FIGURATIVE LANGUAGES TRANSLATION

    Figurative language is widely used in any form of communication particularly in daily communication such as articles in newspaper, advertisements, novels, poems and so forth. However, this study is limited to the analysis of the figurative languages with reference to the translation of the novel The Other Side Of Me into Sisi Lain Diriku. This study is aimed at finding out the type of the Figurative Languages that found in the novel and finding the equivalence if the text meaning based on 3 Word-Meaning Approaches theory combined with Knowledge Based Theory. The analysis was presented in the forms of words and sentences.  The result of this study showed that there are 4 types of Figurative Languages. And there also shown the relation between 3 meaning approaches and knowledge based theory

    When observed the children’s learning and their development, teachers need to understand what they see. The process of observing, noting, and recording, with the support of record like the Primary Language Record, helps to develop powers of observation, but also directs attention to what is significant in a child’s behavior. The frameworks present in the Record help to structure these observations and provide the basis for a developing profile of a child’s strengths and need as a learner. There are five dimensions form part of a continuum of learning; they go on being important and developing throughout a person’s life as a learner: Confidence and independence, Experience, Strategies, Knowledge understanding, and reflectiveness. It is very danger If the students write a verse of Alquran and hadist incorrectly. Indeed, the understanding of structure of Arabic in writing should be taken in to account as importance skill by Arabic and Islamic education students

    THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING (ELT) COMPETENCY-BASED SYLLABUS IN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

    Although competency has long been the major concern in ELT either in the EFL or ESL contexts, the rise of competency-based syllabus launched by the Ministry of National Education (2006) brought about significant issue among the English teachers in the country. One of the crucial issues is that how to transfer the concepts of competences into the syllabus design.  Since a syllabus does not only contain a list of subject content, but also how curriculum planners (teachers) reflect their understanding and belief about nature of language and of language teaching and learning, the ELT must be carried out to achieve communicative competence. Current investigation on the practices of ELT, however, indicates that English teachers are still walking in place, leaving the CC as a big slogan in their jobs
