    The Implementation of Augmented Reality Technology in Teaching Natural Sciences to Improve Elementary Students’ Learning Achievement

    In this research, the researcher developed new innovation in natural sciences learning of elementary school by implementing augmented reality technology. The method that used in this research was research and development method based on Borg and Gall theory which consists often stages: 1) research and information collecting, 2) planning, 3) develop preliminary for more product, 4) preliminary field testing, 5) main product revision, 6) main field testing, 7) operational product revision, 8) operational field testing, 9) final product revision, 10) dissemination and implementation. The result of this research is learning media of natural sciences learning in elementary school by utilizing augmented reality technology. Based on the implementation of experiment, it is obtained the data that learning process using augmented reality which is developed can improve the students’ learning achievement

    As You Write, It Helps You Listen: An Experiment in TOEFL Preparation Class

    This study aims to test whether using the technique named keeping-journals during the TOEFL preparation class is beneficial for the listening section part A of the test. The quantitative pretest-posttest method used in this study involves single-group design consisting of 36 fifth semester college students at Syiah Kuala University, Aceh, Indonesia. The result is considered essential since, practically, TOEFL tutors need to bring TOEFL learners to keep track on their learning rate on their own; hopefully, the result can best suit the theoretical gap since there have been only few experimental studies conducted on Listening Section of TOEFL through journal-keeping. The findings approved that the Ha is accepted for the tvalue is 1.90 (df 34, α=0.05, -2.02 ≤ t ≥ 2.02 ). It is also significant for the sigvalue is 0.7 (sigvalue ≥ α=0.05). In conclusion, the technique does help the learners in tackling problems they face in Listening section on TOEFL part A as it enhances their listening performance, attitude, and motivation

    The Students’ Perceptions of National Examination Washback: A Case Study at MTS Daarul ‘Ulya Metro

    Studies on washback of testing have been recently conducted. This demonstrates that there is a growing awareness that testing can have consequences beyond just the classroom. For one decade, Ministry of Education in Indonesia has administered National Examination (NE) as the standardized test for passing grade requirement. In spite of its good aim, NE has become one of controversial issues among educators, students and even parents. Some say yes while some others say no. This paper was mainly attempted to display some impacts, not all, of NE toward the test takers, the students. A qualitative research was employed where the data taken from observation and questionnaires to 20 students. The result of the study showed that most of the students felt unconfident with their score in National Examination due to the fact that their English competence was considered low. However, the difficulty of NE did not significantly affect their studying English language. In other words, the washback of NE on their study was negative

    Development of Predict Observe Explain (POE)-based Thematic Teaching Materials

    The learning process cannot be separated from the use of teaching materials that play a role to achieve the competencies that must be achieved by the learners. The purpose of this research is to identify the developmental stages of Predict Observe Explain (POE)-based thematic teaching materials, quality, and effectiveness of teaching materials to improve the learners' learning outcomes. This is a research and development technique. The development of this product is done through the design model of ADDIE learning system, i.e. (1) analysis, (2) design, (3) development, (4) implementation, (5) and evaluation. The results show that the POE-based thematic teaching materials has excellent quality on aspects of graphics and material with the score 4,52 and score 4,75 respectively from the aspects of readability, linguistic, and presentation according to the learners as the users of the product. Furthermore, the effectiveness test results show that the average class score that does not use POE-based thematic materials is 75,72, whereas that using POE thematic materials is 82,08. Therefore, the average score in the experimental class is higher than the control one. The Sig. shows 0,010 0,05, then H0 is rejected and H1 accepted. It is concluded that there is a significant value difference between the control and experimental class

    Mathematics Learning Devices Development based on Realistic Mathematics Education on Probability

    The purpose of this  research is to develop mathematics learning devices in the form of Lesson Plan (RPP) and Student Assignment (LKPD) based Realistic Mathematics Education(RME) on probability materials in line with curriculum 2013. In addition, this research aims to describe the quality of developed learning devices in both validity and practicality aspects. This is a development research with 4D model including define, design, develop and disseminate. The researcher modified the development model by simplified the model through limit the research up to develop stage by considering the time and the cost. The define stage consists of: a) curriculum analysis; b) student analysis; and c) concept analysis. The design stage consists of: a) Lesson Plan design; b) Student Assignment design; c) instrument design and validation on assessment instrument of learning devices. Meanwhile, the develop stage consists of: a) the validation of learning devices by the expert and mathematics teacher; b) testing; and c) the questionnaire of both teacher and students responses. This research produces mathematics learning devices in the form of Lesson Plan and Student Assignment basedRealistic Mathematics Education (RME) on Probability materials class X. The research findings shows that according to expert and mathematics teacher assessment, the developed learning devices are valid with 3.25 on average for lesson plan and 3.48 on average for student assignment. The result of the teacher response on the questionnaire shows that student response and interview display that mathematics learning devices in the form of lesson plan and student assignment are practical to be used on mathematics learning particularly on probability materials with 3.50 on average for Lesson Plan and 3.30 on average for Student Assignment

    The Development of Learning Model With An-Nafs Learning Theory

    This article aims to explore the theory, An-Nafs learning model and the response of religious teachers at elementary schools in Palupuh, Agam. This study involved all the religious teachers from 19 schools in Palupuh. Based on the questionnaire distributed and then processed by using Likert scale, obtained excellent response from them, both on the aspects of theoretical understanding, urgency, and the benefits of its application to the learning of Islam. The finding showed that all the learning theories today can not be separated from the philosophical view of the nature of man and God. This view will determine how a person treats humans, educates and learns them and also the purpose of the education and learning.     Analysis on Relational-Understanding in Solving Problem for Field Independent Students

    The purpose of this study is to describe students’ relational understanding in solving problems for FI students. The subjects of this research are Senior High School students having field independent cognitive style in Malang and chosen randomly. The subjects consist of two students. Sheet of GEFT test, sheet of Combinatorial questions, and interview sheet were used in this study. The finding of the study showed that medium-academic achievement student had an ability on relational understanding as the same as the high-academic achievement student. Meanwhile, the process in solving problem made by the high-academic achievement student was likely similar to the accurate process in solving problems

    Standing, Active vs Sitting, Torpid: a Management Decision

    The aim of the study is to investigate the pros and cons of standing while working and studying. A qualitative research was employed where the data taken from education practitioners and students interested to learn and support the introduction of standing desks. The finding of the study show that students and sedentary workers now spend up to 85% of their waking hours,(+/-13.5 hrs/day), sitting viz: sitting at meals, sitting in transportation, sitting in schools or offices, sitting watching TV or looking at a handphone or an i-pad plus sitting whilst watching sport or playing computer games. Even if standing in classes became the default behaviour in all classes it could only result in a maximum of about 20 extra hours of standing per week during semesters and thus could only reduce the amount of time spent sitting by a maximum of 14% of waking hours to 71% of waking hours. The height of Standing Desks should be at the elbow height of the  person concerned ie about 1.00m for senior high school and university students and adults. For primary school students the desk height for the standing desk is about 75cm – ie. the same as the desk height for normal sitting desks for adults. The study also did a small survey of educators, 66% of whom would support the introduction of  standing desks.  Finally the study found that 72 % of the students and their teacher supported the introduction of standing desks. It is hoped that some schools and offices will take the initiative to introduce standing desks on a larger scale

    Laugh and Learn: Evaluating from Students’ Perspective of Humor Used in English Class

    Laughter is an easily reachable way that can be used to erase barriers of communication for educational purposes. The purpose of this paper is to seek out students’ perception of humor added in teaching English and how that humor influenced students’ engagement in English classroom activity. This study employs research instrument of questionnaire and observation concepts through qualitative design. There are 78 students of multi-background: gender, level of intelligence and social background as research participants. These backgroundsareintended to obtain objective perception of the students. The findings revealed that the majority of students believed the teacher’s humor could prevent them from feeling stress of learning English, develop a better relationship between teacher and students, help them remember and understand the lesson, encourage them to be more active in the classroom and ease them in learning English. However there are some obstacles to overcome during humor application that apparently the English teachers need to build a good relationship and mutual trust with students and understand students’ interests, likes and dislikes prior to applying humor, so that the humor would be more likely to be welcomed and it would not cause emotional and psychological impact such as bullying and etc for the students

    Street Children Religious Education: A Study on Car Window Cleaning Kids in Jambi

    Children begin careers on the streets in several locations in the city of Jambi. They work on the streets as street musicians, vehicle glass cleaners, newspaper and tissue sellers, both forcibly and deliberately. Their existence is influenced by some factors, such as family neglect and socio-economic conditions; as well as finding work on the streets and sustaining the work are much easier than looking for work which uses energy or mind. The purpose of this research is to study the religious education of street children who become car glass cleaners which has increased significantly compared to other street professions. This study aims to explore two issues: where the children obtain their religious education and to what extent they practice it in their daily life. Qualitative collecting data techniques were used including observation and interviews. This research found that the street children interviewed in this study only had access to religious education at morning school. They do not attend madrasah, the Qur'an educational school or Taman Pengajian Alquran (TPA), and Sekolah Islam Terpadu. The dominant factors affecting their religious education were their school and their peer group at school. Meanwhile, parents seldom practice the religious duty in family, thus the parents’ influence on the children’s religious practices was minimal. Therefore, this research recommends other actors give early religious education for street children. Religious education can be integrated with their shelter homes which can be their early Islamic religious education
