Motivation plays important role in language learning. It has contributed to grow student’s interest in learning Arabic language. This research is aimed to describe real case in State Islamic Senior High School (MAN) Sumenep and Nurul Islam Senior School Sumenep. This study was conducted through qualitative research approach which multi-case study was as research design. The findings are; a. the intrinsic motivation to learn Arabic are that students have an interest in Arabic owing to they need to understand the Quran and intend to continue to pursue higher level, and have positive attitude towards Arabic, b. the extrinsic motivations are their father boost and encourage them to learn the Arabic language, and majority of their teacher are able to use the Arabic language well, and then the Arabic teacher chooses the precise and good method of teaching and learning which enable them to enjoy deepening that language, as well as the heads of both schools have good ability in applying the Arabic language. Furthermore, by various methods of teaching and learning, the Arabic teacher can engage the student motivation to learn that language which formally is used as official language of Islam. In additionally, the use of many kinds teaching medias and instruments and also advice and assistance helps the educator to increase pupil spirit in understanding and using the language
Constructing Social Attitudes and Religious Tolerance in Emerald Diversity through te Teaching of Religion and Cultural Values
Diversity is already common place in Indonesia as a country that is nicknamed as the Emerald diversity. Indonesian state menghiasai diversity is seen as something that is very unique, but foreigners do not know that it is actually in it churned a result of lack of tolerance. SMK Nurul Ulum is a school that is not wished for it to happen. Therefore, this school creates an attitude of tolerance among human beings, which is based on the teachings of Islam, Christianity, Hindu-Buddhist and cultural values Pendhalungan. The method used in this article is using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques and observation. Descriptive analysis is done by reviewing a wide range of journals, books, articles and other sources that support. While the observation conducted at SMK Nurul Ulum Jember namely by conducting in-depth interviews to the relevant school. The results showed that with the use of the teachings of tolerance of various religious and cultural values Pendhalungan and use a good strategy, tolerance can be built effectively in this school
Translating from English into Indonesian: Which techniques to teach EFL students to be professional translators?
The credits for translation courses offered at the study program of English Language Teaching at a university level in Indonesia are very limited, which is not sufficient to teach and facilitate practices for all techniques of translation. Therefore, the students should only be taught techniques frequently used in translation from English to Indonesian. This research was to analyze translation techniques commonly used in translating from English to Indonesian. The data were collected from Colors magazine, an in-flight magazine for Garuda Indonesia. The magazine comes in two languages. The sentences were extracted, and translated sentences in Indonesian were compared to the original version in English. The research results showed that the most frequently used techniques in translating from English into Indonesian are amplification (23.36%), reduction (15.20%), transposition (12.32%), borrowing (12%), modulation (11.68%), and literal translation (10.08%). Therefore, it is recommended that lecturers teaching students majoring English Language Teaching provide them with those techniques of translations with practices, feedbacks and explicit instruction for revisions
Implementation of Integrated Learning Based Integrated Islamic School Network Curriculum in SMA ABBS Surakarta
This research aims to identify the implementation of integrated learning method based on Integrated Islamic School Network curriculum in SMA ABBS of Surakarta. This research is aimed to analyze the integrated phases used in SMA ABBS. Descriptive qualitative research was applied where the data taken from document, events, and informants. The results of the research show that there are three phases of integrated learning: material comprehension, integrated understanding, and practicing the integrated learning. The implementation of integrated learning method in SMA ABBS develops intellectual intelligence (IQ), emotional intelligence (EQ), and spiritual intelligence (SQ). The implementation of integrated learning method based on Integrated Islamic School Network curriculum has ideological foundation sourced from the holy Qur’an and As-Hadits. The successful implementation of this method is due to good cooperation between the committees involved
The Development of Students’ Worksheet on Students’ Creative Thinking Skill
This study aims to 1) explain the development products of Student Worksheet on Student's creative thinking Skill; 2) describe the validity product of student Worksheet on Student's creative thinking Skill; and 3) describe the influence of student worksheet on Student's creative thinking Skill. The method in this study used to research and development (RD) the model of R D in this study using Borg Gall. The analysis used in the study of development technique has three of them, a review of the learning contents, descriptive analysis, and the analysis of the test results. The development of learning materials in the form of student worksheet of creativity proved can improve the process creative thinking skill of grade V SDN Tambak Asri 02 Malang. Suggestions for optimizing the utilization of materials development is 1) the development of learning materials can utilized as references for educators. 2) Learning materials that have been developed this for more good news can be integrated with the Quran or the Hadith perspective
Fiqh Learning For Elementary School Students in Kutamakmur North Aceh: A Study on Students’ Ability in Learning Shalat
Fiqh learning is a part of learning process in PAI (Islamic Education) subject given to students especially the elementary ones. It is the responsibility of all teachers and parents to provide the children’s needs, clothing, as well as Islamic education. However, from the field observation, some of parents pay little attention to their children’s religious education as if such education were only the responsibility of formal educational institution. This present research aims to investigate what the level of elementary school students’ understanding on shalat is, how the process of fiqh learning is conducted, and what obstacles the teacher encounter in this learning. This research uses analytical descriptive method with the approach of library research and field research. The data were collected through observation, interview, and field research. The findings of this research reveal that some students in 2 elementary schools; SDN 2 and SDN 6 have not yet understood the concept of shalat; some of them are not able to recite and memorize do’a in. On the other hand, students in SDN 1 Kutamakmur has understood the concept and process of shalat and are able to recite and memorize do’a in shalat. The process of fiqh learning in SDN 2 and SDN 6 Kutamakmur North Aceh has not yet run properly because some students are not able to memorize do’a in shalat as it is expected. The obstacles the teachers encounter is the limited time availability to do practice in school, the lack of parents’ guidance in teaching and urging their children to do shalat. Hence, students only learn this at school without parents’ guidance and some of students are not able to recite and memorize do’a in shalat
The Use of Small Group Discussion and Snowballing Techniques: An Effort to enhance EFL Students’ Self –Efficacy and Speaking Skill
This paper is aimed at discussing on Small Group Discussion and Snowballing techniques enhance students’ self-efficacy and speaking skill on hortatory exposition text at class XI State Islamic Senior High School 1 Padang in academic year 2016/2017. The experimental research type and factorial design were used to conduct the research. Two groups of experimental classes, who were cluster randomly selected, were taught by different techniques. First group was taught by Snowballing and second one was taught by Small Group Discussion. Both groups were given post-test after they got different treatments to find out whether both two groups shown differences and the effectiveness of the different treatments. Speaking test and questionnaires were used to collect the data. The t- test and two ways ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The results of the research have shown that students who were taught by snowballing were better than those who were taught by small group discussion in speaking skill on hortatory text. The students’ self-efficacy in speaking skill that was taught by snowballing was higher than that was taught by small group discussion. The students with high self-efficacy got higher speaking score than students with low self-efficacy. It is concluded that Snowballing technique gives more significant effect on students self-efficacy in speaking skill than Small Group discussion one. It is recommended that English teachers have to use Snowballing technique to increase students’ self-efficacy and skill in speaking
Teaching Quantitative Research Method with Three Methods of Learning
This study aims to investigated the effect of lecture-discussion (LD), direct instruction (DI)and guide inqury (GI) to students’achievement on quantitative design research. An experimental comparison group post-test only designwas used to prove the hypothesis there is a significant difference of students’achievement on undergraduate biology education class (BEC) and master's economic class (EC)with the using of LD, DI and GI.This study used34 BECs’ student and 26 ECs’ student who take quantitative research courses in the academic year 2016-2017.The students’ achievement was measured by instrument of Research based Learning (RbL). The collected data has been analyzed by using descriptive statistics, and Chi-Square test to determine the comparison in both treatment of classes.The result of this study has shown thatχ2scores of LD(71.276) andχ2scores of DI(203.12) χ2 table α(0.05;0.01) (15.507;20.090). At the using of GI, the quality for students’ achievement scores on BEC is better than EC (standard vs. approaching standard). In conclusion, there was significant difference of students’achievement onBEC and EC with the using of LD, DI and GI
Multicultural Awareness and Practices among Malaysian Primary School Teachers
This study was designed and aimed at identifying the awareness and practices of multicultural awareness among primary school teachers in Malaysia. It attempts to identify their awareness of multicultural concept when dealing with their students and staffs at their school. This awareness was measured by three variables: awareness, knowledge and skills. A number of 41 questions which inquired about the three variables were distributed randomly to 50 primary school teachers in Malaysia. These teachers were from three ethic types of primary schools: Tamil, Chinese and Malay primary schools. The reason for choosing the three different mainstream schools was because they represented the main different multicultural practices in the country. From these participants, five teachers were selected for further interviews to obtain richer data. The findings revealed that the awareness of multicultural education among primary school teachers was still at the medium level. Thus, this study suggests that there should be a multicultural awareness campaign at all schools in Malaysia in order to ensure that each student, no matter from what backgrounds they are from, feel they are part of the Malaysian society as a whole. The study also found that the awareness should start from the home, environment and peer and through parental guidance because school is a bridge between home and the society that will form one Malaysian society to achieve vision 2020
Fairy Tale as a Medium for Children’s Character Cooperation Building
A fairy tale is a fantasy story which gives moral education, and can be one of the media used for character building. One of the values found in a fairy tale is cooperation. Children’s character building strategy is done through giving fairy tales, listening to fairy tales, and creating a supportive reading environment. This study aimed at observing the ability of children in identifying the character values found in fairy tales and their ability to implement the values in their daily life. The respondents of this study were 3-4-year-old students of PAUD Pelangi Palembang. The number of the respondents was 15 students. The study used mixed methods. The data were collected through interview, observation and test. The results revealed that the value of cooperation could be effectively implemented through fairy tales. Before they were told fairy tales, the students were reluctant to tidy up their toys after they finished playing together, but after they were given a fairy tale about cooperation, the children enthusiastically cooperated to tidy up their toys, tidy up the class’ benches, throw garbage and tidy up the books on the shelf
