Learning how to see: understanding binocular vision and the benefits for students of art
Get PDFWhat can students of art gain from learning about how their visual system works? What can the way we see teach us about the nature of experience or representation of space? By virtue of having two eyes, we are gifted the rich experience of three dimensionality. Yet we are generally unaware of the complex process which makes this possible. This paper discusses activities held as part of an Interdisciplinary Art course at a liberal arts college in Japan in which students are encouraged to investigate firsthand the nature of their own visual experience. By recreating phenomena of binocular vision through a combination of drawing, 3D photography, and creating viewing devices, students can reflect on seeing in new and interesting ways. There are several benefits to such experimental modes of firsthand inquiry. Firstly, by encouraging visual art students to be more aware of how they interpret visual information (in essence, how they see) they can develop more refined methods of spatial representation, both in a physical and philosophical sense. Secondly, understanding how vision works could benefit students interested in working in creative industries involved with virtual reality (VR) technology, such as gaming and entertainment. 音楽療法での評価を活用した連携の構築 －セッションの個別評価表の活用を通して－
Get PDF外部講師として施設等での音楽療法のセッション※を実施するにあたって、対象者の支援者となる職員との関係性の構築は重要である。しかし、音楽療法を実施するねらいは共有されていても実際のセッションでの音楽活動の支援には積極性や主体性がみられない場面に出会うことも多い。その要因として、セッションの音楽活動内容への支援方法が理解できていないことや対象者の音楽療法での個別目標が明確にされていないことなどが考えられる。筆者もセッションを実施する上で、セッションの質の向上を目指して職員との関係性について模索をした。セッションにおける対象者の活動チェックとして個別評価表を提示し、導入した。筆者が施設で実践した数年にわたる記録を分析し、施設の職員との連携構築のために導入した個別評価表を活用することで、セッションのプログラムの検討と工夫や職員の対象者への支援に変容がみられてきた。個別評価表活用の有用性について 1 事例としてまとめたものである。

読解力向上を目指す「主体的・対話的で深い学び」の指導の在り方 －小学校国語科における読むことの学習に焦点を当てて－
Get PDF経済協力開発機構(OECD)が発表した国際的な学習状況調査「PISA2018」における我が国の 15 歳児の読解力は、参加国・地域(79 か国・地域)の中で 15 位となり、前回の調査(2015)から大幅に低下した。また、読解力の結果は調査開始以来過去最低となった。そのため文部科学省は、2019 年 3 月に告示された新学習指導要録において、旧学習指導要領の枠組みや教育内容を維持したうえで、PISA調査結果における課題に対応した施策として、「主体的・対話的で深い学びの視点からの授業改善の実現」を推進することとした。

Avatars in the Classroom: Promoting Understanding of the Active Learning Process Through Gamification
Get PDFThis paper describes a long-term CLIL class project that reinforces awareness of study behaviors that may influence the understanding and retention of course concepts and vocabulary. The project turns the learning process into a game in which student teams curate the knowledge accumulated by their team’s avatar, an imaginary student that is participating in the class alongside them.
Using a simplified version of cognitive psychology’s model of short and longterm memory, the teams shuffle bits of information into different categories of their avatar’s body of acquired knowledge. Some of this information is transient and subject to removal. More firmly internalized material is shifted to long-term memory and becomes safe from mishap. Over the course of gameplay, specific actions, events, and random occurrences help or hinder the learning process and serve as tangible examples of how various factors affect retention.
In the gamification of the learning process, the project seeks to take advantage of the human impulse to be a “backseat driver.” By “teaching” the avatar and making critical judgments about what must be done to help the avatar to succeed, students gain insight into their own learning processes.departmental bulletin pape
