Supply Chain Management and Organisational Performance: Mediation Effect of Competitive Advantage
Supply chain management (SCM) practices have become valuable resources and capabilities in formulating strategies aimed at enhancing organizational performance (ORGPER). However, it is not clear how SCM Practices influence organizational performance in the agribusiness context. Therefore, this study sought to examine the mediation effects of competitive advantage in the relationship between SCMPs and ORGPER from the dairy supply chain perspective in Kenya. The study postulated four hypotheses that were tested using Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) techniques to address the study objectives. A cross-sectional survey design was utilized to gather primary data from 109 dairy cooperatives in the thirteen major milk-producing counties in Kenya. The result revealed that SCM practices have a positive and significant influence on CA (?=0.730), and ORGPER (?=0.237). Additionally, CA has a positive, statistically significant influence on ORGPER (?=0.522). Further results show that competitive advantage mediates the relationship between SCMPs and organizational performance. Consequently, high employment of SCM practices will result in high levels of competitive advantage and enhance organizational performance. The results provide insights on the resource-based view theory as well as a conceptual framework for its validation. Similarly, the study informs managers and policymakers in knowing specific SCM practices responsible for enhancing competitive advantage and improving performance in the dairy industry. Keywords: Competitive advantage, Organizational performance, Supply chain management, and PLS-SEM

The Supply Chain Management (SCM) has emerged as a new field of study which received much attention by the business houses and the researchers. Research shows that efficient SCM ensures on time arrival of raw materials at the production plant, prevents the need to source additional materials from alternative sources, avoids higher prices and guarantees higher profitability for the manufacturing company. This research develops a conceptual framework of the impact of SCM practices on operational performance in RMG industry of Bangladesh through literature review. In this study, six most important SCM practices and eight metrics for operational performances have been adapted from the prior literatures. This study found that there is a positive relationship between SCM practices and operational performances of RMG companies in Bangladesh.
Decision-Making Attitudes in the Beef Chain Industry Innovation Adoption: Brazilian Case Studies
The research objective was to analyze the attitudes of decision-makers in the innovation adoption process in the Brazilian beef chain industry. The study’s approach was qualitative and exploratory, using multiple cases in the beef chain industry. To reach the objective, 17 rural properties in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul were investigated. Unstructured interviews were conducted to map the decision-makers’ attitudes regarding the innovation adoption process. Content analysis was performed using the ATLAS.TI software. Findings: The attitudes of the decision makers to evaluate the internal environmental conditions showed the characteristics of informality, slowness, centralization, and conservatism. The factors that affect the innovation adoption were the cost-benefit ratio analysis, the cohesion and connection between what already exists in the organization and the innovative technology, and the uncertainties regarding the return on investment. Originality: The Brazilian Beef Chain has been suffering competition in the domestic and foreign market. Beef Chain can find in innovation a mechanism that allows it to improve its strategic position and thus remain competitive. The findings enabled the proposal of an innovation adoption model based on the attitudes of the decision-makers for the beef chain industry.
The Role of Organizational Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA) in Correcting, Implementing and Achieving Corporates' Goals in HSE
This work tackles the measurements of health, safety and environment at work (HSE) which is closely related to developing the HSE indicators. The main aim of the research that has been proposed in this work is to suggest solutions that allow companies to achieve their objectives in an appropriate time, to develop product quality, and to improve the image of the company by determining the failures of the Health and Safety Management System using organizational FMECA. To improve HSE performance, the companies and industrial institutions need to understand the role of the managerial system, and its relationship with all institution's details, in which the importance of understanding the policy and organization in the enterprise helps directly or indirectly to achieve the aims through implementing specific methods. In this study, we will apply the Organizational FMECA on different levels in the field of institution management system, also on the level of Health and Safety Management System Moreover displaying the extent of its contribution to reveal the failure points on the level of managerial system, in addition to present possible solutions in order to improve and develop the performanc
Responsiveness and Recovery Performance Analysis of Supply Chains under Large Replenishment Lead-times and Uncertain Demand
This paper takes up the analysis of the responsiveness and recovery performance of a distribution warehouse of a supply chain operating under conditions of large lead times (lags) for order replenishment, and uncertain demand (sudden demand increases). The performance metrics for measuring Responsiveness and Recovery are defined, and the dynamic performance analysis of the warehouse inventory management system under different dynamic replenishment control schemes is dealt with in detail. And from a comparative performance analysis, a good control scheme is suggested to enhance responsiveness and recovery. To further study the effect of replenishment lag specifically, a comparison of the response characteristics of some closely related supply chain conditions is then presented, which highlights the increased difficulty in controlling systems in the presence of replenishment lags compared to the others.
The Effect of ICT & Digital Supply Chain (DSC) in Higher Education Institutions
The study identifies the effect of the implementation of information and communication technology-driven digital supply chain (ICT-DSC) model in education institutes. Besides that, the study defines the integration and evaluation criteria of the Digital Supply Chain model in the academic industry. Finally, an integrated model for educational institutes in Bangladesh is developed through the study. This ICT application-based DSC model would formulate a requirement roadmap to express a guideline for the educational technology impact. It would fulfil all relevant stakeholders desire to diminish risks and increase understanding to overcome drawbacks. The study would also propose a systematic methodology that initiates a considerate process for all relevant stakeholders within an academic institution. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was adopted as a theoretical framework. To conduct the study, primary data have been collected from 276 stakeholders of academic-industry in Bangladesh who were interviewed about their interest and performance ICT-DSC in educational institutions. As a statistical tool, SPSS was used for pilot test and PLS for data analysis. To elaborate on the current ICT-DSC execution in the academic infrastructure of Bangladesh. Also, this research outcome is to produce an integrated theoretical model for educational institutions in Bangladesh. This is one of the most recent research studies on academic institutions in Bangladesh
Do Poor Paddy Farmers Benefit from Increasing Rice Prices?
A policy of high rice prices can increase paddy farm incomes but also cause a rise in rice expenditures for farm households. Such a policy is needed to stimulate production but can harm rice consumers, especially poor families. We surveyed 284 paddy farmers in Gantar Sub-District, Indramayu Regency, Indonesia to analyze the impact of increasing rice prices on farmers’ net incomes, including poor paddy farmers. We found that a price increase benefits farmer if the price transmission elasticity is more than 0.2 for non-poor paddy farmers or 0.6 for poor paddy farmers. A high rice price policy can benefit paddy farmers if there is good price transmission in the market. Good transmission requires a strong rice market efficiency channel

As the backbone of the economy, SMEs contribute to employment and GDP of the country. The recent coronavirus pandemic outbreak has heavily affected every business but has particularly hit SMEs badly. Due to limited empirical evidence of the impact of COVID-19 on the supply chain capability and the performance of SME manufacturing firms across Malaysia, this project aims to investigate how the coronavirus pandemic outbreak affects supply chain and SMEs’ manufacturing performance and propose a framework for overcoming the crisis. This research focuses on SME manufacturing firms located in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur (Bangi, Shah Alam, and Ulu Kelang). A total of 17 SMEs manufacturing owner-managers (eight sub-sectors) were interviewed based on an open-ended questionnaire. The thematic analysis was conducted for coding, categorising and developing theme. The findings showed that they have between four and 26 years’ experience, three to 200 employees, and MYR 100k to 500m yearly income. The COVID-19 has impacted the electrical and electronics sector (76%) the worst, followed by metal fabrication (64%), automotive (63%), oil and gas (61%), furniture (54%), food and beverage (52%), paper printing (51%) sectors and the least impacted being textiles (43%). The thematic analysis reveal that two important themes were identified in supply chain performance pre, during and post pandemic: business sustainable strategy and government policy and support. Total 15 sub-themes were categorised for two main theme. This finding will help managers understand and develop the resilient strategies, and help government’s policy makers to better cope with the rapid and unexpected coronavirus pandemic situation that severely affect on-going business operations and performance
Antecedents of Sustainable Procurement and Inclusive Business in South Africa
The South African government has embraced inclusive business practices. Relevant policy mechanisms and interventions have been developed to ensure that all economic sectors direct their procurement spend towards supporting low-income beneficiaries to achieve sustainable economic development objectives. However, continued research is necessary to establish whether such inclusive business imperatives can be improved through supply chain management. This empirical study surveyed 248 procurement professionals to investigate the potential supply chain antecedents of sustainable procurement and inclusive business in South Africa. Structural equation modelling showed that four factors, namely strategic partnerships, familiarity with policies, trust within supply chains and organisational incentives, significantly predicted sustainable procurement. Organisational incentives emerged as the strongest predictor of sustainable procurement. Sustainable procurement also significantly predicted inclusive business. Policymakers and practitioners may use this study as a reference point for adopting sustainable procurement policies and strategies in their organisations
