    The relationship between government authority and civil society groups (philanthropic institutions) is often dynamic and tends to be imbalanced when one side becomes dominant. Mosque-based BMTs in Solok City show an interesting relationship pattern with the government, particularly before and after the Solok City government received an award. This article examines the pattern of relations between the two using Gretchen Helmke and Steven Levitsky's typology of relations. This field study's data is sourced from interviews with several Solok City officials involved in managing MB-BMT. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, followed by qualitative analysis. Gretchen Helmke and Steven Levitsky's theory on the typology of relations between the private sector and the state is used to analyze these relations. The results of this study strengthen existing theory, as evidenced by the success of MB-BMT in Solok City, where the relationship between MB-BMT and the Solok City Government is a complementary substitution. The MB-BMT institution aims to strengthen the objectives set by the Solok City Government to protect the community from the clutches of loan sharks by channeling philanthropic funds exclusively through the qardh agreement. Meanwhile, the Solok City Government adopts a passive stance, meaning it grants full autonomy to the mosque institution to manage its operations, resulting in the Solok City Government being ineffective and its role being replaced by the MB-BMT institution. From a management perspective, the MB-BMT in Solok City only performs the functions of a Mal institutional body and does not carry out the tasks of a Tamwil institution. Research shows that when the government is fully involved in the capital and management of MB-BMT institutions, these institutions become inactive and ultimately cease to function

    The escalating complexity of environmental degradation has prompted various normative approaches, including those informed by Islamic thought. This article explores the dialectical relationship between reason (‘aql) and revelation (wahy) in the formulation of environmental fatwas and legal regulations in Indonesia. It further examines the extent to which the localization (pembumian) of Islamic values reflects epistemological harmony or tension between these two foundational sources. Employing a literature-based qualitative method, the study analyzes selected fatwas issued by the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI), national environmental legislation, and key Islamic scholarly works. The findings reveal that environmental fatwas are shaped not only by normative scriptural texts but also by rational responses to empirical ecological challenges. In parallel, state regulations—though secular in structure—frequently resonate with Islamic ethical principles, particularly those within the framework of maqÄá¹£id al-sharī‘ah. This convergence suggests that reason and revelation can operate complementarily rather than in opposition. However, institutional and epistemological gaps remain, especially in integrating religious moral authority with actionable public policy. Strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration between religious scholars, academics, and policymakers is therefore essential for the advancement of a contextually grounded Islamic environmental jurisprudence.Permasalahan lingkungan hidup yang semakin kompleks mendorong berbagai pendekatan dalam penyusunan norma dan kebijakan, termasuk dari perspektif Islam. Artikel ini mengkaji bagaimana akal dan wahyu berinteraksi dalam fatwa keagamaan dan regulasi hukum lingkungan di Indonesia, serta sejauh mana pembumian Islam mencerminkan harmonisasi atau ketegangan epistemologis antara keduanya. Melalui studi kepustakaan terhadap fatwa-fatwa Majelis Ulama Indonesia, regulasi negara, dan literatur keislaman kontemporer, ditemukan bahwa fatwa-fatwa lingkungan tidak hanya mengandalkan teks wahyu, tetapi juga mempertimbangkan realitas empiris dengan menggunakan pendekatan rasional. Sementara itu, regulasi negara, meski berbasis hukum positif, menunjukkan adanya irisan nilai-nilai yang sejalan dengan prinsip maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa dialektika antara akal dan wahyu dalam isu lingkungan tidak bersifat dikotomis, melainkan dapat saling melengkapi. Namun, upaya pembumian Islam tetap menghadapi tantangan konseptual dan kelembagaan, terutama dalam menyatukan otoritas moral keagamaan dengan kebijakan publik yang aplikatif.     This research examines the relationship between Islamic values and the unique gender system in Bugis society in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, which recognizes five gender identities: makkunrai, urané, calalai, calabai, and bissu. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and literature study methods, this research analyzes the cultural, spiritual, and religious aspects of non-binary gender roles in Muslim society. Data were obtained from scientific journals, books, reports, and relevant digital sources related to the topic. The findings indicate that the Bugis community negotiates between Islamic teachings and local traditions, resulting in contextual interpretations that embrace gender diversity. The bissu figure is viewed as a sacred entity and plays an important role in customary ceremonies and the spirituality of the community. Gender identity in Bugis society is understood not only from a biological perspective but as a result of the dynamic interaction between religion, culture, and evolving social roles. This research contributes to the discourse on Islam regarding gender diversity and emphasizes the importance of preserving local wisdom amid the pressures of globalization and conservative religious ideologies. The study recommends a more contextual and humanistic Islamic approach to understanding the diverse social realities

    This study examines the representation of ta'awun, or long-helping, in the film Kukira Kau Rumah by Umay Shahab through Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis. This film was chosen because it raises the issue of mental health and social relationships that are full of values ​​of empathy and caring. The aim of this study is to find out how the value of ta'awun is represented through visual and verbal signs that appear in various film scenes. The method used is a descriptive qualitative method with semiotic analysis techniques, which include three main elements: icons, indices, and symbols. The results of the study show that icons appear in facial expressions, gestures, and actions of characters that represent empathy and support. The index is seen through the character's actions, which arise from a sense of care and a desire to help. The symbol reflects a broader moral meaning as a form of mutual assistance in emotional and social aspects. As a form of novelty, this study shows that the representation of ta'awun in films extends beyond concrete assistance to include affective dimensions such as empathy, attention, and psychological strengthening, thereby enriching the perspective of Islamic communication studies through film media. In conclusion, the film Kukira Kau Rumah not only explores psychological issues but also emphasizes the importance of human values and empathy between individuals as a tangible manifestation of ta'awun in everyday life.Penelitian ini membahas tentang representasi nilai ta’awun atau tolong-menolong dalam film Kukira Kau Rumah karya Umay Shahab dengan menggunakan analisis semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce. Film ini dipilih karena menggambarkan isu kesehatan mental serta hubungan social yang sarat dengan nilai empati dan kepedulian. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui nilai ta’awun direpresentasikan melalui tanda-tanda visual dan verbal yang muncul dalam berbagai adegan film tersebut. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan Teknik analisis semiotika yang mencakup tiga elemen utama, yaitu ikon, indeks, dan simbol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ikon tampak pada ekspresi wajah, gestur, serta tindakan tokoh yang merepresentasikan empati dan dukungan. Indeks terlihat melalui hubungan sebab-akibat dari tindakan tokoh yang muncul karena rasa peduli dan keinginan membantu. Sedangkan simbol mencerminkan makna moral yang lebih luas, yaitu bentuk tolong-menolong dalam aspek emosional dan sosial.     UNDERSTANDING FRESHMEN STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS OF BASIC ENGLISH SKILLS, LEARNING BARRIERS, AND STRATEGIES IN AN INDONESIAN UNIVERSITY

    This study investigates freshmen students’ self-perceived basic English abilities in a non-English department at an Indonesian university. Using a descriptive quantitative survey design, data were collected from 101 participants through a six-item multiple-choice questionnaire administered via an online survey platform. The findings reveal that most students rate their overall English proficiency as poor and show low confidence in using English in daily contexts. Speaking and listening emerged as the most frequently identified weak skills, while grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension were cited as major challenges. Students’ experiences learning English in high school were mixed, with many reporting inadequate preparation for university-level demands. In terms of learning strategies, students primarily relied on self-study and reading, with fewer attending formal courses, and some reporting no deliberate strategy at all. These results suggest a gap between students’ secondary education experiences and their readiness for academic English tasks. The study highlights the need for universities to provide early support focusing on communicative competence, foundational language skills, and confidence-building activities. Limitations include the exclusive use of self-reported data, a limited number of survey items, and a single-site sample. Recommendations for future research include larger samples, mixed-methods approaches, longitudinal studies, and evaluations of targeted interventions to improve students’ basic English competenc

    The Influence of the Heutagogy Approach Based on Xmind Mapping on the Critical Thinking Skills of Class X Students at SMA Negeri 5, Barru Regency

    This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Heutagogy approach based on Xmind Mapping in improving students' critical thinking skills in history subjects at SMA Negeri 5 Barru Regency. The research employed a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 70 tenth-grade students selected through cluster random sampling. The instruments used in this study were essay tests and observation sheets. The findings revealed a significant increase in the students’ average scores, from 31.92 in the pretest to 66.45 in the posttest. The Mann-Whitney statistical test showed a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating that the approach had a significant effect on enhancing students’ critical thinking abilities. Therefore, the Heutagogy approach integrated with Xmind Mapping can be considered an effective strategy to improve the quality of history learning and foster students’ critical thinking skills.Keywords: Heutagogy, Xmind Mapping, Critical Thinking, History Learning, Senior High Schoo

    Digital media in marketing educational services is a form of technological development so that the dissemination of information becomes wider. With the competition between institutions, institutions need to develop effective marketing strategies, one of which is by utilizing technological developments, namely digital media. Educational institutions market their products and services through digital media can be a solution in achieving marketing planning from the educational institution itself by using various digital marketing concepts so that the planned program can be realized. This study was conducted to describe the marketing strategy carried out by SMAN 3 Ponorogo in order to realize a marketable and sellable educational institution through the advantages of digital media. The research method used in this study is qualitative using interview methods, observation and document studies to collect data. In this study, data sources were obtained through respondents, namely the principal, vice principal, teachers, students and the community. Data analysis using miles, Huberman and saldana. In data collection using data condensation, data display and data verification. The purpose of this study is to determine how educational marketing management in realizing a marketable and sellable educational institution, to find out how to implement educational marketing through digital media. This study resulted in the implementation of educational marketing at SMAN 3 Ponorogo by branding a superior program, namely the international class program, implementing online and offline-based learning through digital media, and maximizing content uploaded on social media and providing good service to education consumers

The aim of this research is to find out the implementation of multicultural learning to build the character of Madrasah students. In this research the research method used is a qualitative approach and descriptive analytical method. Data collection was carried out in 3 ways, namely, observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this research show that multicultural education can shape students' character starting by providing lessons about politeness and humanity, mutual respect, cooperation and tolerance, not discriminating, and so on

    Studi Faktor Penyebab Turnover dan Upaya Retensi SDM di Pesantren Al Muslim Bireuen

    This study investigates the factors contributing to employee turnover and retention strategies in Pesantren Al Muslim Bireuen, focusing on the unique dynamics of Islamic educational institutions. The research adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews with 15 employees and document analysis to explore their experiences and perspectives. Findings reveal that key factors causing turnover include low job satisfaction, excessive workload, uncompetitive compensation, and limited career development opportunities. The study also highlights effective retention strategies such as improving employee welfare, providing career advancement programs, and fostering a supportive work culture. These findings align with Herzberg's two-factor theory and the Job Demand-Resource model, offering a nuanced understanding of turnover in the pesantren context. The research recommends implementing comprehensive strategies to enhance employee satisfaction and organizational commitment, including periodic training, competitive remuneration, and improved communication between management and staff. This study contributes to the existing literature by examining turnover in Islamic boarding schools, which remains underexplored in human resource management research. Limitations of the study include the single-site focus and relatively small sample size, suggesting the need for further research involving diverse pesantren across regions

    DEKONSTRUKSI TAFSIR BIAS GENDER: KRITIK FEMINISME TERHADAP POLIGAMI DALAM KITAB TAFSIR INDONESIA

    This study critically examines gender bias in the interpretation of Qur'an Surah An-Nisa verse 3 by analyzing eight classical Indonesian tafsir (exegesis) texts. Employing a qualitative content analysis approach, the research uncovers how patriarchal ideology has historically shaped the understanding of polygamy within these interpretations. The findings indicate that many classical scholars framed polygamy in ways that subordinate women, often portraying them as passive recipients of male authority. Common justifications for polygamy—such as a wife’s infertility, disobedience, or inability to fulfill marital obligations—are shown to stem not from the Qur’anic text itself but from prevailing cultural norms and patriarchal assumptions. These interpretations, while influential, often overlook the ethical and egalitarian spirit of the Qur’an, particularly its emphasis on justice and compassion. The study calls for a re-evaluation of such interpretations through a contemporary lens that prioritizes contextual understanding and gender equity. By advocating for a justice-oriented hermeneutic, this research contributes to the broader discourse on Islamic reform and gender justice. It emphasizes the need for interpretations that reflect the Qur’an’s core values of fairness, dignity, and humanity, thereby promoting a more inclusive and balanced view of women’s roles in modern Muslim societie
