Relationship between cube and cylinder compressive strengths of mortar used for ferrocement
In this paper the relationship between cylinder and cube compressive strengths of ferrocement and the influence of wire mesh on such relationship was fairly studied. Different mortar mixes having different compressive strengths were attempted, and for this purpose a total of 108 specimens were tested in the laboratory. The influence of wire mesh on mortar compressive strength was found to be not important, except in cubes reinforced with wire mesh perpendicular to direction of loading. Strength enhancement was due to the difference in mode of failure of specimens. The size of specimen seem to have an influence on compressive strength of mortar contain wire mesh. In general, the ratio of cylinder to cube mortar specimen is close to 0.94, this ratio can be used for the design of thin ferrocement sections. For thick sections, it is better to take the effect of any wire mesh perpendicular to the direction of loading. This paper gives an equation for calculating cylinder compressive strength for this case

RISK CONTRIBUTION TO ENTREPRENEURIAL SUCCESS
The success of an entrepreneur depends largely on the level of risk he can take and how he has been able to use different strategies to minimize its negative consequence. Risk is inevitable in business. Risk is considered to be the uncertainty that is associated with business. Hence, to succeed in business, an entrepreneur must be ready to make sacrifices that are associated with risk-taking. For an entrepreneur to have a chance of success, he/she must have to take significant risk. This paper examines the contribution of risk to entrepreneurial success. It examines the factors that are attributed to the success or otherwise of an entrepreneur which include ability to take risk. Risk, therefore, cannot be neglected in business irrespective of the size or financial status. The paper concludes that, for an entrepreneur to succeed his/her stated objective, various types of risk that are associated with business must be examined by experts if the entrepreneur lacks adequate knowledge and competency, with the hope of yielding fruitful results
Comparative Analysis of Groundwater Quality under different Land-use Types in Apapa Local Government Area of Lagos, Nigeria
The study examined the differences in physicochemical characteristics of groundwater under varying land uses in Apapa Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria. Samples from 30 hand-dug wells were analysed for six physical and eight chemical parameters. The water samples were from three land use types namely commercial, industrial and residential. Correlation and ANOVA techniques were used to study relationships between elements and differences among land use groups respectively. Parameters such as turbidity, TDS and EC exceeded the WHO standards in some locations. All the chemical parameters under study had significant positive relationships with each other. ANOVA results showed that the observed variations in the occurrence of turbidity, DO, TSS, Cl, Mg, Na and K across land use types were not significant. Significant however at p< .05 are variations in pH, EC, TDS, SO4, NO3, PO4 and Ca. The post hoc tests carried out on these seven parameters further indicated a significant difference between residential and industrial land uses. The paper calls for further research
Simulation Optimization for Model and Prototype using Non- parametric Method: a case study of Anambra/Imo River Basin Engineering Development Scheme
Non – Parametric experiments in this work is aimed at modeling an alternative method of testing null hypothesis for Anambra/Imo River Basin (prototype) and the contingency, reliability theory (model). The work assesses the relationship between the experimental and theoretically expected results and tests the null hypothesis, as follows: (a) If no maintenance is applied by the decision maker next year’s productivity depends on this year’s condition of the basin. (b) If maintenance is applied by the decision maker, next year’s productivity depends on this year’s condition of the basin. (c) If the cost function depends on the strategy (courses of action) of the decision maker in terms of loss during a-1- year period. (d) If the return function depends on the course of action of the decision maker in terms of gain during a 1-year period. (e) If simulation optimization depends on the minimization of expected cost .(f) If simulation optimization depends on the maximization of the expected revenue. The methodology involves contingency, reliability test and alterative interactive model of Pearson product moment correlation. Data were collected for the model and prototype from the Ministries, Parastatals and Anambra –Imo River Basin Development Authority Owerri. The problem of providing more information about a phenomenon or interactions in the analysis of variance was solved. The study shows that there is a significant difference between the actual experimentation of the Anambra – Imo River Basin schemes and expected theoretical result for both maintenance and without maintenance of the scheme, which led to the rejection of (H0 ) . To further test the hypothesis The researcher analyzed the data with other powerful parametric tests such as Pearson’s product moment correlation and scatter diagrams which coincided with r = 1.00 as height of perfection of performance of the basin when compared with the theory. 
Thermal image segmentation based on density slicing of color histogram of images
Thermal imaging has been recently used as a new approach for human biometrics. The formation of thermal image is purely based on the heat distribution of an object. It brings some difficulties to image segmentation due to its over centralized intensity distribution and low intensity contrast. Our approach uses color slicing segmentation method to characterize the texture information using various color models. The experimental results of present study shows the color slicing technique can make good effect on the segmentation of tumor structure. We have found that segmenting these images can be made easier by using RGB, HSV, YCbCr color models by Color slicing method. We have used many Statistical operations (such as contrast, variation …) to evaluate our segmentation results
Modern nursing training
Nursing is a science, an art and a profession. The competencies, abilities, as well as the psycho-motor, cognitive and relational skills necessary for the nursing practice are conveyed and improved by the nursing teachers’ art of teaching. They must select and use the teaching methods which shape the personalities of the trainers or students, enabling them to provide individualized, personalized care in real-world context of health problems. In the “Fundeni” Sanitary Post High-school the nursing teachers pay special attention to the professional development of the students, while also focusing on the skills needed for the nursing practice of the care process. The methods and strategies used by us are aimed at communicating and exploring the patients’ health problems, as well as selecting the proper ways to solve them. Among them are different variants of the case studies, role plays, tours or visits to different locations, the Philips 6/6 method, the Frisco method, the communication experiment method (“Communication with the patient”). During the partnership proposed to the students, the nursing teacher provides them with the chance to form their character and personality, in order to achieve the objectives of professional training
ECONOMIC EMPOWERENMENT AND JOB CREATION THROUGH BUSINESS EDUCATION: AN INSTRUMENT FOR ERADICATIONG INSECURITY FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Despite the fact that the county has undergone Vocational and Technical Education system for years; the desires and aspirations of the government and people of Nigeria has remained a mirage. This is with reference to unemployment reduction, job creation, poverty reduction, and self-reliance motive of the government. Further, Vocational and Technical education has been included in the curricula of tertiary institutions in Nigeria and yet the situation has not changed. It is in the light of this obvious problem and the imminent danger to the society compounded by the present global economic meltdown that this paper is canvassing for skill oriented and practical education in Nigeria. This is different from the presently mounted business education in tertiary institutions which lacked practical components, not goal oriented (theory as usual) and therefore impotent. This paper examined the importance of full implementation of Vocational and Technical Education with recommendation that government must wake up from slumber and implement Vocational and Technical Education as measures to create jobs, an instrument for change/development and a provider of service oriented skills which play a significant role in economic development and eradication of the insecurity challenges in Nigeria
Deployment of CCTV in Saudi Arabia: Security, Culture and Religion
Deployment of CCTV surveillance systems has now become a worldwide practice for securing people and businesses alike. A common goal of all CCTV surveillance systems is to detect crime and disorder in a timely manner, enabling the law enforcers to possibly prevent it from happening. The effective deployment of CCTV in Saudi Arabia is of particular interest to researchers and decision-makers as in addition to the usual cons and pros, cultural and religious factors do severely hinder its effective implementation. In particular, as prescribed in the sharia law, men or women are not allowed to take picture/video or acquire picture/video; hence making it very hard to argue in favour of the case for CCTV systems. Based on a simple model of cost-benefit analysis, this study attempts to evaluate the social costs and returns associated with the deployment of CCTV surveillance systems in both public and private places across the country. In so doing, the research has focused on a case study of a large public hospital in Riyadh as a pilot case for evaluation of effectiveness of use of CCTV. Using a large sample of doctors, nurses, workers and patients of the hospital, the study has produced a structured questionnaire survey. The preliminary findings are indicative of several main issues. Firstly, due to lack of education on the part of some patients and workers, over 52% of such participants declared that they had no knowledge about the potential usefulness of the CCTV surveillance in crime reduction. Secondly, a significantly large number of doctors and nurses declared that they were fully supportive of the surveillance systems as they believed it would help reduce theft and provide a safe and secure environment for them to work. Thirdly, although over 50% of participants tend to believe that CCTV systems can help reduce crimes, they were concerned that the staff in charge of such CCTV systems may abuse the power and hence jeopardise the true effectiveness of the system. Finally, according to the initial findings of the study, it is anticipated that there would be more CCTV systems in place in Saudi Arabia as the issue of security tends to overshadow other cultural and religious issues
