An evaluation of most popular open source content management systems
There are several Open Source Content Management Systems (CMS) available and used by organizations today. Content Management Systems evolved as a viable alternative to traditional web site authoring tools, programs and website building applications. Content management systems offers an easy and dynamic approach to manage large and small amount of content on organizational websites. There are a large number of open source CMS available online for users to download, setup and use. But, the question is how to decide on what CMS to use? This is a difficult question to answer and it depends on the organization as well as other factors to be considered by webmasters and web programmers. This study aims to evaluate three of the most popular Open Source Content Management Systems and reach a conclusion on which CMS best to be used by organizations. After installing each of these systems on an actual web server and working with the systems through their control panel and performing similar tasks on all three system we conclude that WordPress by far is the most suitable CMS for most organizations based on Usability, Adaptability, Modularity, Customizations, and Availability of reliable Updates
THE INFLUENCE OF EDUCATIONAL STATUS ON CHILD LABOUR IN NIGERIA : IMPLICATIONS FOR NATION’S POVERTY ALLEVIATION
This paper the influence of educational status on child labour in Nigeria. The paper discovered that polygamy, divorce, separation, death of parents/guardian are among the factors that contribute immensely to child labour. Education also is a crucial component and contributing factor to the level of awareness and income an individual (parents and children alike) can attain; and in a great deal determine the tendency at which parents may subject their children to child labour (knowingly or unknowingly) to boost family income. There are many interlinked explanations for child labour. No single factor can fully explain its persistence and, in some cases, growth. Equal access to education in Nigeria is a basic right and there is growing concern that all children specifically girls, minorities, and children from low – income families are not afforded equal educational opportunities. This paper recommends that child labour should be brought under control by the joiined effort of the government, corporate bodies, individuals and all concerned in order to provide the child with proper education, improve their well – being and create a brighter future for children and the nation at large
A Study of the Negative Influences of ICT on Secondary School Students in Nigeria
The paper examines the negative impact of ICT on secondary school students in Nigeria. Eight schools in Ekwusigo L.G.A. of Anambra State, Nigeria were selected for the study. Again, four objective questions were examined in the course of carrying out the investigation. A survey research method was employed. Data were collected using twenty-two structured items. The total population for the study was 400 respondents - 360 students and 40 teachers. The findings of the study was analyzed using simple percentage, frequency table and mean score. The result of the findings showed that ICT can take away valuable learning time, it can be overused, also it can turn educational experiences into games for students and thus enhances low academic performances, it also exposes students to porn sites and can distract them during class hours. The work also tried recommending possible solutions to this effect
Design of an Ultra Wide Band (UWB) Antenna and its Performance Analysis at the on and off Body Environment
Design of a U-slotted circular patch Ultra Wide Band (UWB) antenna on Jeans substrate which can be easily worn is presented in this paper, and then imposed on human body environment for Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) applications. Comparison of the performance of the designed antenna is done at the on and off body environment in terms of return loss, radiation pattern and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR). The antenna provides an operational frequency band from 6.6342 GHz to 16.58 GHz, but for analyzing the performance 7-14 GHz frequency band is used. Electro textile material, Denim jeans (εr= 1.7) is used as the antenna substrate. A human body model having three layers (skin, fat and muscle) is then developed and the antenna is applied on this body model to investigate the characteristics and performance and also the impact of human body layers on the antenna. The whole observation on human body model is carried out at four different frequencies: 8 GHz, 10 GHz, 12 GHz and 14 GHz
Genetics-based innovation to predict athletic performance and sports talent
Sports world which searchs the answers of questions like “Has the genetic treatments place in sports?” “For what purpose genetic science is used in sports and how?” “How can genetic factors are used for choosing skills” has made many innovative researchs. Studies carried out show that the genetic examination tests that made in early ages can provide a big potential to the child, for an improvement in a special sport and to prepare a personal training programme. The genetic examination tests that applied to athlete also provide to increase genetic tendencies and for physical improvement, choosing special training methods. Through the human genom Project, drawing the genetic map carries too much weight. However the innovation in genetic engineering in sport science, has ethical and legal problems. Gen doping comes first among them. Although the gen treatment is used in health problems and the gen therapy is used in some situations, there is no absolut information about the negative effects of changing gens. For all that matters, Genetics-based innovation to predict athletic performance and sports talent goes on intensely and from these improvements in kinesiogenomics, sports world will surely utilize in future
Designing a Mobile Learning System for Higher Education: A Literature Review
The proliferation of portable electronic devices and wireless networking is creating a change from e-learning to m-learning especially in higher education, and it increases collaborations, interactions, anywhere, anytime, student centre learning etc. Furthermore, Mobile learning gives learners possibilities to carry out learning tasks with or without connectivity to a virtual learning environment. Using appropriate communications channels supported by mobile devices, students are able to interact with fellow students as well as with teachers. Additionally, mobile devices support interactive educational systems with emphasis on the learner-to-content interaction. However, in designing learning activities for mobile devices there is a need to establish an appropriate theoretical framework (Baharom, 2013, Thomas, 2005; Collis & Moonen, 2001). The aim of this paper is to present a research framework and literature review for mobile learning environment. The work is grounded in social constructivist theory, and associated learning theory of Conversational in order to derive attributes. These attributes are: conversation, collaboration, creativity, content, context, technology, users, and pedagogy (Baharom, 2013; Prasertsilp, 2013; Mohammed and Alameen, 2014). Through these attributes, an iterative framework for a mobile learning environment is proposed to support teachers and instructional designers to create educational values, and provide students with a quality in mobile learning environment. In turn, this will to improve both instructors’ teaching and students’ learning experiences. Primary data collection and analyses will be conducted at Adamawa State University, Mubi, Nigeria to determine students’ readiness and institutional support for a mobile learning intervention
Effect of computer-based instruction on performance in numeracy of field-dependent and field-independent primary school pupils in Ile-Ife, Osun state, Nigeria
The study examined the effect of computer-based instruction (CBI) on field-dependent and field-independent primary school pupils’ knowledge of Arithmetic concepts. It also assessed the effect of Computer-based Numeracy instruction on their retention of learned Arithmetic concepts and investigated the moderating effects of sex on knowledge and retention of learned Arithmetic concepts by the two categories of learners. The study adopted the one-group pre-test post-test research design. The sample comprised 95 pupils of primary three in their contact classes in four primary schools purposively selected in Ile-Ife,Nigeria. The selection was based on availability of computer systems. The Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT) was used to divide the pupils into group of field-dependent and field-independent after which 5the Computer Software Numeracy Instructional Package for Children (CSNIPC) was used to teach Arithmetic concepts. Achievement Test on Numeracy (ATN) was used for pre-test, post-test and retention test. The data collected were analyzed using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) and 2-way repeated measure (ANOVA) respectively. Significant difference was found between pupils’ mean score in Arithmetic concepts based on their cognitive styles of learning (F1,92 = 0.02, p<0.05). Also Computer-based Numeracy Instruction (CBNI) has no significant effect on the retention of learned Arithmetic concepts of field-dependent and field-independent pupils (F(2,92) = 0.370, p >0.05). In addition, sex has no significant effect on the knowledge of learned Arithmetic concepts (F (1, 90) = 2.865; p>0.05) and retention (F (2, 90) = 0.292, p>0.05) of field dependent and field independent pupils
Islamic spiritualism in the modern times (the study of thought of Seyyed Hossein Nasr)
This article shows the thought of Seyyed Hossein Nasr concerning islamic spiritualism in the modern times. Modern society is a group of people who organized the intellectual structure through positivistic premises, and the pioneer of hedonistic doctrine mired in humanism. The consequences of modernism is, man as the main controller has distorted the reality of life that the ultimate nature of man. Modernity leaves humanitarian issue, so it is like a rolling disaster that struck the entire life of the community. Seyyed Hossein Nasr offers a traditional approach, with sufism as an alternative that is able to meet the spiritual needs of modern man. To be able to achieve the level of existence, the man must hold a spiritual approach and train the intellectual acuity. Sufism is able breathed his spirit into the whole structure of Islam both in social and intellectual manifestations. Spiritualism through understanding of sufism could be answered to the spiritual crisis of modern man through three attempts, actively practiced sufism, Islam presents a more attractive, and the functioning of sufism as a tool for the revival of spiritualism
Optimizing Large Search Space using DE Based Q-learning Algorithm
Finding global optimum solution in minimum time from large search space is challenging due to involvement of large no. of variables and their varied degree of participation in problem solving process. Complexity of a problem increases with the dimensionality, which must be learnt efficiently to improve performance of the method. Q-learning, a reinforcement learning algorithm is used widely to learn the environment dynamically. However, the conventional Q-learning is not fast and becomes inefficient while solving large scale problem. In the proposed approach by hybridizing Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm and Q-learning (QL) method (QL-DE) optimal partitioning of the search space is obtained involving multiple agents with an objective to achieve maximum classification accuracy. Performance of the proposed algorithm has been compared with state of the art optimization algorithms
