The sultanate of 623 years and the caliphate of 1292 years were abolished as a result of Kemalist revolution. Turkey was reconstructed as a Western type nation state and its official discourse was also reconstituted according to this ideal. On the other hand, any counter-discourse attempt was strictly prevented. Justice and Development Party (JDP) has become a turning point in the political experience of Turkey since 2001 when the party was established. It can be said that Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the founding general president of JDP, is the last and the most successful representative of this counter-discourse. The balcony speech Erdoğan made after his triumph in the presidential election which was held for the first time in Turkish history is a significant example the elements of this counter-discourse can be found. In this paper, the balcony speech of Erdoğan will be evaluated by means of Fairclough’s discourse analysis which comprises three phases: text analysis, processing analysis and social analysis

Design And Adaptation Of Cross-Flow Turbine For Small Scale Hydro Electricity Generation

    Get PDF
Access to electricity is one of the key recipes for rural development. An estimated number of 1.5billion people in developing countries do not have the needed access to electricity thereby limiting the possibility of economic growth. The design of a cross flow turbine, invented by Nichelle, H and Reichel, R. was adapted to provide a small scale mini-hydro electricity by harnessing energy from running water, generating 3,000 watts of electricity which could be used to power small Communities or Factories. The main characteristics of cross flow turbine is the water jet which passes twice through the rotor blade (arranged at the periphery of the cylindrical rotor) perpendicular to the rotor shaft. Water flows through the blade of the turbine from the periphery towards the center and then after crossing the open space inside the runner, it flows from the inside outwards. Energy conversion takes place twice, first upon the impingement of water on the blade on entry and then when the water strikes the blade upon exist from the runner. The design analysis show that a penstock of cross sectional area of 0.1330m2 and a minimum flow rate of 0.746m3/s is required for the design

The purposes of this study are to analyze and reconstruct the learning process of authorizing environment of the public value creation in social entrepreneurship practice.  The study applied Soft Systems Methodology (SSM). Through the choice, the feasible and desirable change, by considering the systematically desirable and culturally feasible factors, is the consideration among the researchers and reviewers, not on the problem owners. This study used a hybrid voluntary organization located in Bandung - West Java - Indonesia as a case study.  The study found that the learning process of authorizing environment of the public value creation occured in on going participatory based on culture through social entrepreneurship practice. In authorizing environment activities, it is found that the case study with its core strategy called 5M (convincing, rallying, mobilizing, monitoring, and protecting) supported by the basic values and paternalistic leadership. Thereafter, it actually employed conceptual model activities explicitly veiled conform to its capability to generate trust, support, and legitimacy from its stakeholders. When carries out those activities, it fully depends on its strenght of collaborative networks (institutionally and functionally connected) with different weight in function and contribution.&nbsp

Difficulties Encountered by Secondary School Physics Students in Answering Mathematical Related Physics Questions

    Get PDF
The paper investigated difficulties secondary school physics students encountered in answering mathematical related physics questions in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State. The design used descriptive survey in carrying out this study was descriptive survey, four research questions were raised. The population of the study was all SS2 Physics students from Senior Secondary Schools in Njikoka L.G.A. The schools were stratified into male and female. Five (5) selected Senior Secondary schools for males and three (3) senior secondary schools for females totaling seventy two(72) students of intact classes. The questionnaire was constructed to illucidate answers based on students’ factor, teacher factor and Environmental factor. Data were collected through distribution of questionnaire developed by the researcher. A test re-test statistics was used for reliability of the instrument and the co-efficient of reliability was obtained to be 0.89, using Pearson Product movement of correlation. The research questions were answered using Likert’s scale of very often (4), often (3), rarely (2) very rarely (1).The study revealed that some students do not have interest in learning physics due to the fact that physics is a difficult and abstract subject. Some are of the view that no matter what they do, they cannot answer mathematical related physics questions. Also it was revealed that Teacher factor, such as method of teaching physics, non-mastery of learning techniques, lack of inquiry method through practicals, personality and experience bring about the inability of secondary school students in answering mathematical related physics questions. Other factors such as environmental and age factors are equally revealed to hinder the ability of secondary school physics students in answering mathematical related physics questions

This study tried to investigate, the relationship between administrators’ managerial philosophy, academic climate, and the academic goal achievement of students in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The study adopts a correlational survey design.  The population consists of all the head of departments, teachers and students of selected tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The stratified random sampling technique was used to select 15 tertiary institutions in the southern part of Nigeria. The sex served by the institution and the location formed the strata.  The vice-chancellor (administrator) and ten lecturers from each institution were used.  The ten teachers (lecturers) were chosen based on seniority from among those who have spent at least five years in the school. The result of the examination for 2012 academic session was also collected from each institution sampled. Two instruments used for the study were: Administrators Managerial philosophy Questionnaire (AMPQ) and Teachers Perception of Academic climate Questionnaire (TPACQ). The AMPQ was administered on both the Administrators and teachers while the TPACQ was administered on the teachers only. The instruments were given construct validity by relating contents to specific variables of the study and the contents were also face-validated, by experts in the field. The instruments were tested for reliability through the test-re-test method.  The coefficient of correlation of the tests was 0.86.Data were collected and analyzed descriptively using correlation, analysis. The result of the study showed, among other things, that there was a significant relationship between administrators’ managerial philosophy and academic climate, and there, was also significant relationshipbetween academic climate, and academic goal achievement of students in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Based on these, it is recommended that the State should encourage the administrators to attend work-shops and conferences on personnel management to enable them acquire greater and better skills of manpower management There is need to motivate the administrators of schools to constantly reappraise themselves viz-a-viz their managerial philosophy, their academic climate and the level of academic goal achievement with a view to improving performance
