Effects of Social Media on Adolescents
Kaiser’s 2010 report, a study on media in the lives of young people between the ages of eight and 18, ignited afirestorm of worries about the amount young people consume, with social media being the newest and fastest-growingmedium. With teens consuming more than 7-12 hours of media a day, Nielsen found in 2011 that social networks werethe most visited sites on the web. And in 2014, Browser Media, Socialnomics, MacWorld discovered that nearly aquarter of all teens log on to Facebook over 10 times a day. Slowly but surely, the research is confirming what we knowto be true anecdotally: young people love social media (Simon, 2014). Young people today become consumers at anearlier age than their parents. (Ahava and Palojoki, 2004). In Turkey, 27% of the population is between the ages 10-14and 17% of the population is between the ages 15-17. In April 2015, the proportion of households with Internet access ingeneral was 69.5%. Such a young national population creates a powerful demand for marketing. (www.tuik.gov.tr). Thepurpose of this study is to report the findings of a descriptive study conducted to investigate the perception of adolescentson social media advertisements
Image Segmentation using Weighted K-Means Clustering on RGB-D Data
Image segmentation is a key technology of computer vision and image processingwhich partition an image into segments rely on the image parameters such as color, gray level, texture, motion or depth. In this paper, we present the approach of image segmentation usingweighted k-means clustering on RGB-D data. K-means clustering algorithm is anunsupervised algorithm and it is used to segment the specific region from the other region.Weighted k-means clustering, also, is based on the weighting of the parameters used. In theproposed method, we tried to segmentation on RGB-D data using weighted k-meansclustering by changing the weights of parameters such as the Depth (D), Lightness (L), a andb for the color opponent dimensions and the surface normals. Ground truth images have beenused to compare the results. Method is open to development with different parameters andweights
Designing a jacket for motorcycle drivers by combination of leather and denim
In the wake of the development of apparel sector and the increase in consumer demands, designing clothes aimed at their intended use has gained importance. Visual and aesthetic designs in line with fashion trends, as well as clothes that can meet technical requirements are used in numerous fields and there are many studies carried out on developing these technical textiles. Many clothes, examples of which could be given as those designed for firemen, swimmers and dancers, should have distinctive properties depending on their field of use and intended use, and should provide the user with protection and convenience in occupation. For motorcycle clothes, leather is usually preferred as material, however leather is an expensive material. In this study, materials of denim fabric and leather have been investigated in terms of cost and air permeability. Designing a reasonable motorcycle driver jacket is aimed. Thus, a leather-denim combination jacket has been designed, consisted of front and shoulders parts which are mostly exposed to wind, made up of leather material and other parts made up of denim fabric. The cost of this jacket has been assessed, comparing it to that of a full leather jacket, and a new product has been developed that could perform a similar function at a much cheaper price.
Technology used in furniture and sawmill microsized enterprises in terms of machine attributes
The wood products industry is an industry having a typically low level oftechnology. The size of an entity is also an important factor in terms of technology level.Generally, the tech level at larger entities is higher, and they may even have their ownresearch and development departments. However, small- and medium-size enterprises(SMEs) in both developed and emerging economies are more numerous and represent anessential part of production and employment. For these reasons, we studied machinesbeing used in micro-sized furniture and sawmills entities in terms of type, age, and placewhere their machines were produced. A face-to-face questionnaire method was used togather data. It was found that average machine ages varied according to machine type andthe mean number of machines in the enterprises was 3.4. The most frequently ownedmachine was a table saw in furniture manufacturing and vertical band saws with logcarriages in sawmills. There were weak, positive linear correlations between enterpriseage and machine age for milling machines, planers, band saws, and sliding table saws
Author and Authorship: a Barthes-Foucauldian Plural Perspective
With the growth of analytical approaches to literature and the rise of interests inpersonal responses to arts and poetics, text and textuality have gained momentum to questionenduring declarations for the work as the canon of authority. In the setting, author, as the solepoint of reference for interpretation and truth in the text, has been at the risk of losing groundsand being reformed by the objects of his target. Integrated to this, is the theories developed infavor of reader and readership to seriously question the claims for the originality andauthenticity of meaning in the text. This paper seeks to address this issue by drawing upon theconcepts and approaches developed by Roland Barthes and Michel Foucault. Both of thepoststructuralist thinkers are at the juncture of struggles to free the text from the dominanceand influence of the author. The researcher indicates that both of the theorists are potentiallyworking to open up literature to plural voices, to rival exclusive role of the interlocutor and todecentralize the intended meaning
