Nickel Levels in Some Common Spices in Southeastern Nigeria
The levels of Nickel (Ni) were determined in fifty different samples of common spicespurchased from three major markets in Southeastern Nigeria using atomic absorptionspectrophotometer. Two grams of dried ground samples were digested using 2:1 HNO3 /Hclo4 mixture and analysis of Ni metal were carried out. Results showed that ranges ofdetectable values μg/g of the common food spices and processed spice samples for Nickel(Ni) were 1.40-5.50 μg/g and 2.20-11.50 μg/g respectively. One way analysis of varianceshowed that the mean concentration of Ni in each selected common spice are all the samesince P>0.05. The mean concentration of Ni in the various spices are the same with respect tolocation since P>0.05. The mean concentration of Ni in each processed food spices are thesame at P>0.05 while the mean concentration of Ni in the various processed food spices arealso the same with respect to location at P>0.05. The daily human intakes of Ni have beencomputed and was observed that the analyzed samples were below recommended values byFAO/WHO
Information Society and Globalization Challenges in the Arab World
Today, we witness huge developments in the field of information, technology, and communications, which become constitute a substantial axis of the development axes. and a gauge for nations’ development and advancement. Information and technology have even become the dynamics of our modern culture, and have an ongoing impact on the individual life & future, as well as, on the people's and communities’ progress. If we look into the recent communities’ reality, we would find that they live in a world which necessitates them to interact and communicate with this robust revolution and accelerating developments. Hence, advanced and developed communities are, from the technical & scientific viewpoint, that characterized by developed & more reactive means of communication, are those communities which affecting the developing communities, or those seeking pursued technological & scientific development that enable them to encounter the cycle of information or information outbreak. Therefore, information exchange and cultural contact have become larger among communities, as well as expertise sharing and behavior similarity which led to the merging of such communities, and made them integrated with one global community; and this phenomenon is called “Globalization”. In this research, we shall discuss the concept of informatics’ community, and define its substantial dimensions which may lead us to learn the challenges surrounding it. Thereafter, we shall focus on the globalization, its challenges and impacts on informatics’ communities, whether positively of passively, how to deal with them, then how to present recommendations, including the results of such research.

Prevalence Of Hypertension Among Adults In Selected Two Communities In Delta State Nigeria.
This is an explorative survey carried out to find out the prevalence of hypertension among adults age 40 and above of two communities in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State. Five Hundred and Twenty Five (525) respondents were selected based on availability and convenience. These respondents were drawn from two communities namely: Alihame and Ekuku-Agbor. Data was collected using structured interview, stethoscope, sphygmomanotneter and record from outpatient department in the health centers of the two communities. Findings show that the mean age and weight of respondents are 46 years and 64.4kg respectively. Forty-five percent (45%) respondents reported increase in systolic blood pressure: thirty-three percent (33%) had increase in diastolic blood pressure, while about twenty-two percent (22%) had increase in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. There is twice the chance that a woman will be hypertensive than a man. Increase in blood pressure is highest between 41 and 60 years of age. The prevalence of hypertension is about fifty-eight percent (58%). The research questions; can age, gender, weight, life style, race and stress affect blood pressure was answered to indicate that age, stress, weight, life style, race can affect blood pressure but no significant effect of gender on blood pressure. It therefore follows that prevalence of hypertension in this Local Government is high. It was recommended that public enlightenment programme be organized to educate the people of this Local Government about the rate and the management of high blood pressure and also that government should make anti-hypertensive drugs readily available in primary health center
The Effect of Scientific Literacy An Approach to Technological Achievement in Physics Education among Students in Aguata/Nnewi Educational Zone, Anambra State.
The study sought to investigate the effect of scientific literacy an approach to technological achievement in physics Education with gender and location as independent variables. There is a growing demand for the science educators to improve the learning of physics particularly in the development of the world due to the critical role it plays in terms of technological advancement. Many approaches and methods are applied with the intention of improving literacy achievements in the subject. The STS approach is an approach that espouses science technology approach specific contents and methods. Three themes are embodied in the physics content: physics discipline content, technology discipline content and the context of both, the society. Emphasis is laid on communication skills. The methods it espouses are those that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving rather than discovery. The traditional science instruction on the other hand, places high premium on science discipline content with little emphasis on technology and society. It also espouses methods that lead to discovery e.g. inquiry and directed -discovery methods. To carry out this investigation, three research .questions and nine null hypotheses guided the researcher. A quasi-experimental design of the pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group was adopted. A population of 3,017 SSII & SSIII physics students from 88 schools and Aguata and Nnewi Educational zone was identified. From this, 246 SSII & SSIII physics students were sampled from 4 secondary schools. Each one was stratified into rural and urban and one male school and one female school were sampled from each stratum. For each school sampled, two classes of SS II & SS III were randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group. The former were taught using the STS approach while the latter were taught using the traditional science instruction approach. The regular class teacher taught each. Two topics were selected from the physics core curriculum: momentum and force of gravity. This was on the basis that they are related and ample STS content derived from them appropriate STS concepts were identified from these topics and infused into the lesson for the experimental group. Two testing instruments were used to collect data- a self-made Physics Achievement Test (PAT) and an adapted scale for scientific literacy (Scientific Literacy Scale, SLS). After trial testing, The former gave 071 for SLS while the later gave 0.84 for SLS and 0.6 for PAT. The research questions were answered by descriptive statistics while the null hypotheses were analyzed by ANCOVA and Regression analyses. The results showed among others that the STS approach is better than the traditional approach in the development of scientific literacy and achievement in physics; the STS approach has a differential effect on scientific literacy and achievement in physics in favour of rural students; STS approach aids development of an understanding of the nature of science more than STS interactions and basic Physics concepts; there is no relationship between scientific literacy and achievement in physics, however, STS approach mediates between scientific literacy and achievement to produce a weak positive relationship. The implication for science education is that the STS approach should be adopted for the teaching of physics in the present millennium. This is because it will enhance the much-desired scientific literacy. It was therefore, recommended that Nigeria should, like other countries, revise the physics curricula to incorporate STS tenets and practicing physics teachers be retrained in this line
