    Drawing with YouTube in Early Childhood: Cognitive Outcomes and Pedagogical Implications

    This study explores the role of drawing with YouTube in enhancing cognitive development among early childhood learners. Using an instrumental qualitative case study in one public kindergarten (TK Negeri Pembina Semarang) comprising eight classes with 138 children aged 4–6 years and nine teachers, data were collected through classroom observations, teacher interviews, and analysis of children’s drawings. The findings indicate that guided drawing with YouTube tutorials improved children’s observational accuracy (e.g., identifying geometric forms), stimulated collaborative creativity (e.g., divergent colour use), and fostered problem-solving skills (e.g., adaptive material substitution). These results suggest that drawing with YouTube serves as an effective visual learning medium supporting early cognitive and creative growth through multimodal engagement. In the global discourse on digital childhoods, this study provides evidence that structured digital use can transform screen media from passive consumption into active cognitive engagement. It contributes to worldwide discussions on multimodal literacy and digital creativity as essential competencies for young learners. However, the study is limited by its single-site context and lack of longitudinal analysis. Future research should include broader samples, cross-cultural comparisons, and quantitative validation to deepen understanding of the cognitive impacts of digitally mediated drawing activities. Practically, the findings highlight the pedagogical value of integrating short, guided YouTube videos with open-ended questioning to enhance visual literacy, reflective thinking, and creative autonomy in early childhood classrooms

    Enhancing Children’s Critical Thinking through an Augmented Reality Application: A Digital Solution for Early Childhood Education

    Early childhood education in Indonesia continues to encounter significant challenges in fostering critical thinking skills, particularly in under-resourced environments with limited access to adaptive learning technologies. This study investigates the effectiveness of a digital learning model that integrates Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance critical thinking among young children. The model, called SMARP (Storytelling, Modifying, Accessible, Real-time, and Promoting), was developed using a Research and Development (R&D) approach based on the 4D model: Define, Design, Develop, and Deploy. The study involved 32 kindergarten students from TK Nada Ashobah in Surabaya, divided into two groups: Class B2 (experimental) and Class B1 (control). The experimental group used an AR–AI-based application, while the control group followed conventional instruction. Data collection included classroom observations, teacher interviews, and critical thinking pre- and post-tests. Statistical analysis using paired sample t-tests and normalized gain (N-gain) scores showed a significant improvement in the experimental group (N-gain = 0.845, categorized as high), while the control group recorded minimal gains (N-gain = 0.0015). The AR–AI model enabled immersive learning through 3D simulations, narrative interaction, and real-time feedback, which promoted observation, analysis, and decision-making. Furthermore, AI features supported personalized learning pathways, increasing student autonomy and engagement. These findings affirm the potential of AR and AI to improve foundational cognitive abilities in early childhood education. The study highlights the need for context-responsive digital pedagogy and recommends comprehensive teacher training and infrastructure support to ensure sustainability. Future research should explore the model’s scalability, long-term impact, and adaptability across diverse educational settings

    Improving Toddlers’ Appetite through Tuina Massage and Feeding Rules: A Preventive Approach to Stunting

    Stunting remains a major public health concern in Indonesia due to its long-term implications for child development and national productivity. Among the contributing factors are inappropriate dietary patterns and poor parental responses to appetite loss among toddlers. This study examined the effects of tuina massage using virgin coconut oil (VCO) combined with structured feeding rules on the appetite of stunted toddlers. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group was conducted in Laha Village, involving 40 stunted toddlers aged 12–36 months. Participants were assigned to either an intervention or control group through total sampling. The intervention consisted of six consecutive days of tuina massage using VCO and the implementation of scheduled feeding rules. Appetite levels were assessed using a validated questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using Shapiro–Wilk for normality, followed by Wilcoxon, paired t-tests, and Mann–Whitney U tests. Results showed a statistically significant improvement in appetite among children in the intervention group (p < 0.001), whereas no changes were observed in the control group. These findings indicate that the integrated intervention effectively enhances appetite in stunted toddlers and offers a promising, low-cost, and non-pharmacological strategy for addressing stunting in low-resource settings. The combination of physiological stimulation through massage and behavioral regulation through structured feeding rules provides a holistic approach to improving early childhood nutrition. Further studies with longer duration and broader geographic scope are recommended to evaluate long-term impacts and scalability within public health programs

    Parenting Patterns for Dreadlocked Children: A Local Culture-Based Study among Muslim Farmers in Dieng, Wonosobo

    Local traditions play a pivotal role in shaping parenting practices and early childhood development in rural Indonesian communities. This study explores the beliefs, values, and daily parenting practices surrounding dreadlocked children at an early age within Muslim farming families in Dieng, Wonosobo. Employing an ethnographic qualitative design, the research investigates how Islamic teachings and local traditions intersect to shape caregiving patterns for children aged 2–7 whose dreadlocks are perceived as sacred signs of spiritual and ancestral connection. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, document analysis, and life history narratives with 25 key informants including parents, kyai, and community elders. Findings reveal that dreadlocked children are regarded as culturally blessed, with parenting approaches characterized by emotional attentiveness, permissiveness, and ritualized social inclusion. The practice of ruwatan—a ceremonial haircut accompanied by prayers and offerings—emerges as a key event in cultural learning and early character development. These parenting patterns reflect a model of culturally responsive education that emphasizes identity formation, moral values, and communal integration. The implications underscore the necessity of redefining special needs education to accommodate culturally distinct child-rearing practices. However, as the study is context-specific and based on qualitative methods, its findings require further exploration through comparative and longitudinal research. The research contributes to a growing discourse on inclusive and localized approaches to early childhood education in multicultural societie

    Integrating Local Culture into Parental Nutrition Education: Evidence from an Ethnoparenting Based Intervention in West Java

    The consumption of unhealthy snacks among young children is increasing, while parents’ knowledge of children’s nutritional needs remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of ethnoparenting-based training on improving parents’ knowledge of early childhood nutrition in Karangsari Village, West Java. The focus of the training was to develop an innovative nutritious snack, Manca, made from local ingredients, namely Manyung fish bone meal and Leunca vegetables, both rich in calcium and phosphorus. This research employed a pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test procedures. The sample consisted of 30 parents of children aged 2 to 6 years, selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, Levene test, and paired t-test. The results indicated a significant improvement in parents’ knowledge, with the mean post-test score increasing by 37 points from 48 to 85. The findings align with Bandura’s Social Learning Theory and Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory, emphasizing the role of parental modeling and cultural context in shaping nutritional practices. The ethnoparenting-based training proved effective in enhancing parents’ awareness of balanced nutrition for young children. This study highlights the importance of culturally grounded approaches in health and education programs for parents. The findings imply the need to integrate ethnoparenting-based training into early childhood care and education (ECCE) policies globally, particularly in multicultural contexts where parental knowledge of nutrition varies widely. By promoting culturally sensitive nutrition behaviors among parents, this study contributes to the global discourse on improving child health outcomes amid rising cases of undernutrition and overnutrition. Furthermore, incorporating local practices into educational interventions may serve as a model for sustainable and culturally responsive public health initiatives worldwide

    Peningkatan Kreativitas dan Hasil Belajar Matematika melalui Model Creative Problem Solving (CPS)

    This study aims to analyze the implementation of the creative problem solving (CPS) learning model in enhancing students\u27 creativity and learning outcomes in Mathematics. The research subjects are seventh-grade students at MTs Negeri 1 Yogyakarta. This study uses the classroom action research method, which consists of two cycles. Each cycle includes planning, action, observation, and reflection activities. Data analysis uses comparative descriptive by comparing data from each cycle. The results show that the creative problem-solving learning can improve students\u27 creativity and learning outcomes. The percentage of students\u27 creativity completeness increased from 65% in cycle I to 85% in cycle II. Meanwhile, the percentage of students\u27 learning outcomes completeness increased from 67% to 91% in cycle II. The creative problem-solving learning can be applied to students at the madrasah tsanawiyah level

    Entrepreneurial Leadership and Organizational Resilience in Islamic Philanthropy: A Case Study of LAZISNU Doro, Indonesia

    The effectiveness of an organization’s work program often hinges on the leader’s capacity to manage and direct the organization. This study examines the entrepreneurial leadership demonstrated by LAZISNU in the Doro District in its efforts to enhance organizational independence. A qualitative descriptive case study approach was employed, with data collected using triangulation of data sources, methods, and theories to ensure the validity and reliability of the findings. The analysis reveals that LAZISNU Doro, Pekalongan, Indonesia exhibits an entrepreneurially oriented leadership model, characterized by proactively fostering organizational commitment through the alignment of vision and mission to cultivate a positive work culture; implementing innovative and collaborative programs by leveraging social influence from community leaders and women\u27s religious organizations (Muslimat and Fatayat Nahdlatul Ulama) to enhance productivity; taking strategic risks through partnerships that support community services and member skill development; and upholding organizational integrity and religious values to build public trust. These findings contribute to the empirical literature on religious organizational development, confirming that modern entrepreneurial principles are not only applicable to for-profit ventures but are also instrumental in the success of non-profit organizations.     Challenges and Strategies for Human Resource Development in Islamic Education: A Case Study of MAN 1 Lamongan

    This study explores the implementation of human resource development (HRD) at MAN 1 Lamongan using a qualitative case study approach. The research aims to describe how both internal and external strategies are employed to enhance the competencies of educators and educational staff. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, comprising data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that MAN 1 Lamongan adopts a dual HRD strategy. Internally, the institution organizes regular training programs, workshops, and seminars at least twice a year. Externally, it facilitates staff participation in training activities provided by external organizations, such as MGMP forums and specialized professional courses. Each initiative is preceded by a needs analysis and followed by implementation and evaluation phases. The institution integrates both on-the-job and off-the-job training methods to improve pedagogical, managerial, and technical competencies. This comprehensive and continuous professional development approach is aligned with institutional goals and the evolving needs of educators. The study offers practical insights for Islamic educational institutions in designing effective HRD frameworks. However, as the research focuses on a single institution, its findings may have limited generalizability. Future studies involving multiple madrasas are recommended to validate and expand the applicability of the proposed model in diverse educational contexts

    Integrating Character Education into Religious Practices: The Management of Jumat Berkah and Bhakti Sosial Programs

    This study explores the optimization of the Jumat Berkah (Blessed Friday) and Bhakti Sosial (Social Service) programs as strategic initiatives for managing religious activities at SMP Al Furqon Jember (Junior High School). Recognizing that religious activities should serve not only as rituals but also as transformative and educational efforts in character development, the research adopts a qualitative case study design. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, and examined using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings demonstrate that program implementation follows three strategic stages: value-oriented planning, participatory execution, and reflective evaluation. These programs actively engage students in each phase, cultivating empathy, social responsibility, and spiritual consciousness. The novelty of this study lies in its development of a contextual, collaborative, and reflective model of religious activity management, which integrates character education into religious practice through experiential learning. Departing from traditional top-down and ceremonial approaches, this model positions students as central agents of value internalization and transformation. The study affirms that the Jumat Berkah and Bhakti Sosial programs function as a living curriculum—merging spirituality, character formation, and educational management into a cohesive and sustainable framework

    Managing Guru Penggerak Program: Insights from the Guru Penggerak Education Center Jambi Province, Indonesia

    This study describes the management of the Movers Teacher Education program and identifies the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation at the Guru Penggerak (Movers Teacher) Education Center (BGP) in Jambi Province, Indonesia. The study focuses on the effectiveness of program implementation within the context of education management. A qualitative research approach was used, with data collected from the BGP Jambi Province, including the Head of BGP, Head of the General Sub-Division, Program Implementation Coordinator, and Sub-coordinator of the Teacher Mover Program. Data were gathered through interviews, observations, and document studies, then analyzed using Miles,Huberman, and Saldana\u27s six-step inductive analysis model. The findings indicate that program management is conducted through three main functions: planning, implementation, and evaluation, which align with the DG GTK policies. Planning involves strategy development and working group formation; implementation includes online learning, individual mentoring, and workshops; and evaluation is conducted using the LMS in SIMPKB and the SIMERDEKA application. Supporting factors for implementation include collaboration with BPMP and local education offices, while obstacles include limited human resources, scheduling mismatches, and geographical challenges in mentoring. The conclusion highlights that program management has been executed in accordance with management functions.
