Classic Mataraman Folktales for Improving Qira’ah among Arabic Language and Literature Students: A Local Cultural Approach

    No full text
In qira’ah instruction, standardized Arabic texts often fail to engage students from culturally rich regions. This study examines how integrating classic Mataraman folktales can enhance qira’ah outcomes while strengthening cultural identity among Arabic Language and Literature students. The research responds to the need for culturally responsive pedagogy that bridges foreign language acquisition with the preservation of local culture in Indonesian Islamic higher education, where Arabic language mastery often feels detached from students’ lived experiences. Using a qualitative case study approach at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah, Tulungagung, data were collected through participatory observation across 12 sessions, semi-structured interviews with 26 students and three lecturers, and analysis of instructional materials. Triangulation and member-checking techniques ensured data validity. Findings revealed that incorporating Mataraman folktales, specifically the tales of Gunung Budeg, Lembu Peteng, and Putri Gayatri, increased student motivation by 78%, text comprehension by 65%, and cultural identity by 83%. Qira’ah skills improved significantly across literal comprehension (18%), inferential comprehension (23%), critical comprehension (23%), and reading–writing integration (17%), with statistical significance (p < 0.05). Thematic analysis further revealed greater emotional engagement, improved vocabulary retention, and a strengthened sense of learner identity. This study provides empirical support for culturally sustaining pedagogical practices and proposes a practical framework for integrating indigenous cultural resources into foreign language education

    Get PDF
This study aims to analyze the effect of capital structure and financial performance on earnings management practices in consumer non-cyclicals (CNC) sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Using quantitative methods, this study involved 118 samples of annual report data for the 2021-2022 period. The results of the analysis show that capital structure has a significant negative effect on earnings management. In contrast, financial performance has a significant positive effect on earnings management. Although both variables have a significant effect simultaneously, the coefficient of determination shows that most of the variation in earnings management is influenced by other factors, such as regulation and corporate governance

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of non-performing loans, loan-to-deposit ratio, operating cost-to-operating income, and net interest margin on the share prices of traditional financial institutions listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the period 2020–2024. A quantitative methodology was used, drawing on secondary data from the market capitalization-based financial statements of the top ten banks. The sample was selected through purposive sampling, and the data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results show that, simultaneously, non-performing loans, loan-to-deposit ratio, operating cost-to-operating income, and net interest margin have a statistically significant influence on banking stock prices. However, when assessed individually, only the BOPO variable exhibits a significant and negative effect. This indicates that higher operational inefficiency tends to reduce investor interest and negatively impact stock valuation in the banking sector. In contrast, the NPL, LDR, and NIM variables, although aligned with theoretical expectations, did not demonstrate statistically significant effects within the model. The coefficient of determination (R²) is 0.240, meaning that approximately 24% of the variation in stock prices can be explained by the four independent variables, while the remaining 76% may be attributed to other external or internal factors not captured in the model. These findings underscore the critical role of operational efficiency as reflected by the BOPO ratio, particularly during periods of economic uncertainty such as the post-pandemic era. The study offers useful insights for investors, banking management, and policymakers in making strategic financial decisions based on fundamental performance indicators

    Get PDF
Revitalization of culture-based religious sites is an important approach in developing sustainable and local value-based tourist destinations. This research aims to analyze the revitalization strategy of the Tomb of Nyai Sedapu as the epicenter of culture-based religious tourism in Boja, Kendal by referring to the principles of good governance in governance. This research uses a qualitative approach with the methods of observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The results showed that revitalization was carried out through physical development and preservation of cultural values through local traditions. Community participation, legality of management through the village government, and information disclosure are real practices of transparency, accountability and rule of law. However, challenges remain in the limitations of digital promotion and budget support. This research shows that the management of religious sites that apply the principles of good governance can be an alternative model in the development of cultural and spiritual-based tourism

    Get PDF
This study aimed to develop a valid and reliable instrument to measure students’ academic self-concept (ASC) specifically in the context of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the senior high school level in Indonesia. Anchored in academic self-concept theory and aligned with the framework of Indonesia’s Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka), this research adopted a modified Research and Development (R&D) approach that included expert validation and field testing with eleventh-grade students in West Java. The findings demonstrate that the ASC-PAI instrument possesses strong construct validity and high internal consistency, confirming its psychometric robustness. Theoretically, this study contributes to expanding ASC measurement into religious education, a field that remains underrepresented in educational psychology research. Practically, the instrument offers a culturally relevant and curriculum-sensitive assessment tool that enables educators to map students’ academic self-perception in PAI, which can inform character-based pedagogy and differentiated instruction in Indonesian senior high schools

Challenges and Competency Gaps in the Implementation of 21st Century Learning: Evidence from Junior High Schools in Ambon, Indonesia

    Get PDF
Teacher competency in 21st-century learning is critically important, especially in public junior high schools in Ambon City, where teachers are expected to master four key competencies required for 21st-century instruction. Although numerous studies have explored teacher preparedness for 21st-century learning, a research gap remains regarding how these competencies evolve in island regions like Ambon, where geographic constraints and uneven access to educational resources shape instructional practices. This study aims to examine the extent of teacher competency, the obstacles encountered, and the efforts made by teachers, schools, and local governments to develop teacher proficiency in 21st-century learning. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving interviews, documentation studies, and observations with teachers, principals, school supervisors, and the head of the education and educational personnel division of the local education office. Data were analysed using the interactive model developed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal that teachers demonstrate adequate mastery of critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, but still show weaknesses in creative and innovative thinking competencies. Furthermore, four challenges were identified: limited supporting facilities and infrastructure, low initiative or motivation, constraints related to senior or less productive teachers, and heavy teaching workloads that hinder competency development. Additionally, efforts by teachers, schools, and local governments to enhance teachers’ competencies remain insufficient, particularly in 21st-century learning. These findings imply that strengthening teacher competency should be a priority in regional education policies and that they should contribute to the global discourse on the complexities of implementing 21st-century learning across geographically diverse contexts

    Get PDF
J.M.S. Baljon's ideas in the study of Quranic interpretation provide significant contributions through the historical-critical approach it employs. As an orientalist, Baljon explored the historical context of revelation and challenged the traditional interpretations that have long dominated the Islamic world. This approach opens up space to understand the Quran from a broader and more dynamic perspective, which not only considers theological aspects but also historical and sociological dimensions. This research is a narrative study about Baljon J.M.S and his thoughts. This research uses qualitative narrative study through the analysis of books and articles that contain information about Baljon. This analysis demonstrates how Baljon uses critical methods to assess the authenticity and relevance of traditional interpretations in a modern context. However, Baljon's approach has faced criticism, particularly regarding the use of Western assumptions that are considered less relevant to Islamic tradition. These criticisms include concerns about the potential bias and generalization that might overlook the complexity of interpreting the Qur'an. Nevertheless, Baljon's ideas remain relevant in fostering dialogue between Islamic tradition and Orientalist studies, as well as enriching the discourse of exegesis with critical perspectives that can deepen the understanding of sacred texts in contemporary contexts

The main findings that were successfully identified specifically include: Intensity of Mosque Administrator Communication, Mosque administrators in Dairi Regency, especially core administrators (chairman, secretary, treasurer), have a high intensity of communication through routine discussions after prayers and informal meetings. This communication strengthens internal cooperation and supports the process of building and managing mosques. Communication between mosques is still personal and not yet structurally organized. Content of Communication Messages, The content of the administrator's messages focuses on matters of construction, maintenance, finance, and evaluation of mosque activities. For the congregation, the messages are in the form of invitations to participate in worship and social activities. To the Government and KUA, the messages are administrative in nature. Discussions are also carried out through WhatsApp groups facilitated by the Ministry of Religion, although there is no official organizational forum between mosque administrators. Communication Media Used, The main communication media are WhatsApp and telephone because they are practical and easy to use by administrators, most of whom work as farmers. For formal purposes, such as meetings and activity invitations, printed media in the form of letters are used. This combination of media supports effective communication, although the limitations of communication structures between mosques remain a barrier to broader collaboration
