Diagnostic and Prognostic Relevance of Circulating microRNAs across Multiple Cancer Types

    No full text
Cancer represents a global health burden characterized by high morbidity and mortality, underscoring the urgent demand for reliable, non-invasive biomarkers to enhance early detection, prognostication, and therapeutic monitoring. Circulating microRNAs (c-miRNAs) are short non-coding RNAs present in body fluids that have attracted attention as potential biomarkers, because of their stability, ease of detection, and close relationship with tumor biology. This review evaluates the diagnostic and prognostic potential of c-miRNAs and their integration into precision oncology. A systematic search was performed across PubMed, Scopus, and ScienceDirect for publications from 2010 to 2025 that investigated c-miRNAs in human body fluids in relation to diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment response. Twelve studies met the eligibility criteria, encompassing breast, lung, colorectal, and gallbladder cancers. Frequently dysregulated c-miRNAs, particularly miR-21, miR-155, miR-210, and Let-7a, demonstrated consistent associations with tumor detection, patient survival, and disease progression. Analytical platforms ranged from quantitative RT-PCR to advanced biosensor-based technologies, enabling sensitive and rapid quantification. Collectively, the evidence highlights c-miRNAs as non-invasive biomarkers capable of complementing conventional clinical tools. Their clinical adoption could reduce reliance on invasive tissue biopsies, support earlier and more accurate diagnosis, assist in tailoring patient-specific treatment strategies, and promote the broader implementation of precision medicine in cancer care

    No full text
Storage is a crucial post-harvest handling process; however, during storage, agricultural products are susceptible to various types of deterioration. Post-harvest losses reach approximately 15–20% annually, with about 0.5–2% of those losses caused by the maize weevil (Sitophilus zeamais). Clove (Syzygium aromaticum L.) is an important spice plant, with its most commercially valuable part being the flower buds, which are predominantly used in the cigarette industry (around 80–90%). Clove leaves, which produce a characteristic aroma, contain an essential oil component called eugenol, known for its fungicidal, bactericidal, nematicidal, and insecticidal properties. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness and optimal weight of clove leaves (Syzygium aromaticum L.) in controlling Sitophilus zeamais. The research employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of five treatments and three replications. The treatments included K1 = 0 g (control, without clove leaves); K2 = 10 g clove leaves per 100 g maize; K3 = 15 g clove leaves per 100 g maize; K4 = 20 g clove leaves per 100 g maize; and K5 = 25 g clove leaves per 100 g maize. Observations were conducted once for each replicate, resulting in three data points per treatment. The collected data were analyzed using ANOVA. The results indicated that clove leaves can be used to control maize weevil (Sitophilus zeamais M.) infestations in stored maize. A total clove leaf weight of 70 g resulted in the highest mortality rate, with 9.08 individuals, yet this treatment was still not considered effective as it did not achieve more than 80% mortality of Sitophilus zeamai

Kenari (Canarium indicum) has high potential as a raw material for tempeh due to its rich nutritional content and functional value. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of yeast concentration on the chemical and organoleptic characteristics of kenari tempeh and determine the optimal yeast concentration for producing high-quality tempeh. A Completely Randomized Design was employed with four yeast concentration treatments (0.5%, 1.5%, 2.5%, and 3.5%), each replicated three times. The analysis included chemical parameters (moisture, ash, protein, fat, fiber, and carbohydrate content) and organoleptic evaluation. The results indicated that yeast concentration significantly affected all chemical parameters of kenari tempeh. A 0.5% yeast concentration produced the best chemical characteristics, with a moisture content of 31.80%, ash content of 1.66%, protein content of 8.90%, fat content of 45.52%, fiber content of 3.38%, and carbohydrate content of 10.27%. Meanwhile, yeast concentration did not affect the organoleptic characteristics of color and appearance but significantly influenced taste, texture, aroma, and overall acceptability. The 0.5% yeast concentration resulted in kenari tempeh with the highest panelist acceptance, with a "like" score for taste, texture, aroma, and overall, and a "somewhat like" score for color and appearance. The hedonic quality of kenari tempeh exhibited fairly uniform color consistency, strong kenari flavor, soft texture in the mouth, and a distinctive fermented aroma. In conclusion, the 0.5% yeast concentration is the optimal choice for producing kenari tempeh with the best chemical and organoleptic characteristics, supporting the diversification of local food products based on kenari

Potensi Danau Faunil sebagai Sumber Air Bersih di Kota Tual: Analisis Kualitas, Kuantitas, dan Tantangan Keberlanjutan Pengelolaan

    Get PDF
This study evaluates the sustainability of Lake Faunil as the principal freshwater source for Tual City, located in a small-island environment characterised by limited groundwater reserves and increasing hydrometeorological vulnerability. Employing a quantitative–descriptive approach, the research analyses ten years  of water-quality data—covering BOD, COD, DO, pH, and TDS—alongside seasonal discharge records to examine spatial and temporal dynamics. The results reveal that pH and TDS remain within the Class II water-quality standards established under Government Regulation No. 22/2021, indicating chemical stability and low salinity. In contrast, BOD and COD have consistently exceeded permissible limits since 2018, suggesting chronic organic pollution primarily linked to unmanaged domestic wastewater inflows. Dissolved Oxygen (DO) concentrations during the dry season frequently drop below 4 mg/L, signalling hypoxic stress and early eutrophication processes. Concurrently, discharge data demonstrate a declining trend, with dry-season flows decreasing to as low as 0.036 m³/s, reflecting the system’s strong dependence on rainfall and declining catchment capacity. A subsequent SWOT analysis substantiates these findings by identifying inadequate sanitation systems, riparian degradation, and weak institutional coordination as major internal constraints, while external opportunities include regulatory support, climate and public financing schemes, and the potential role of traditional institutions such as the Saniri Negeri in ecological governance. The study recommends adopting an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) framework that integrates nature-based restoration, community-based sanitation and monitoring, and seasonally adaptive water allocation. Collectively, these strategies provide an evidence-based foundation for policy interventions to enhance freshwater security and resilience within climate-exposed island urban ecosystems
