    Cities, like Al Ain, are dynamic entities, echoing the diverse rhythms and values of their inhabitants. Urban evolution showcases a city\u27s brand-its unique identity sculpted by historical, cultural, and local influences. A city\u27s true essence emerges when architects collaborate with residents, blending their desires with the city\u27s architectural legacy. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a brand-based design strategy, integrating the architecture process with insights from local residents to foster a sense of identity and belonging in the built environment. Grounded in the personal construct theory, the research applied the repertory grid technique, combining both qualitative and quantitative methods. The brand image of Al Ain was initially explored through open-ended interviews with four participants. This lead the design guidelines of a villa, which was subsequently assessed by 84 local participants concerning its suitability within the city. The study identified 88 constructs representing the Al Ain’s brand image from the residents’ viewpoint. Primary findings highlighted the suitability of the repertory grid technique with its analysis tools and the brand-based design strategy in developing designs that align with the city\u27s character and that are meaningful to its locals. The research aimed to bridge the divergence between architectural design and the ever-changing desires of the city\u27s residents, advocating for design decisions that are contemporary and resonate with local sentiments. This research provides a deeper understanding of the repertory grid technique\u27s application within an architectural framework. It emphasizes the method\u27s ability to capture deep meanings and preferences of end-users in relation to architectural designs

    IMPACT OF TEACHING MATHEMATICS WITH FOUR TEACHING STRATEGIES ON FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS’ LEARNING OF FRACTIONS ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION

    There are different tools, resources, and materials that mathematics teachers may use to enhance the teaching and learning processes under many types of teaching strategies such as technology (e.g., videos and virtual manipulatives), real objects (e.g., concrete manipulatives), and other teaching strategies are traditional (e.g., lectures). Some of the most important things that a teacher has to consider is the students’ learning needs and how to reach to their minds by different teaching strategies with a variety of resources and assess which are more effective in students’ learning anddevelopment in mathematics. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of using four teaching methods with videos, virtual manipulative, concrete manipulatives, and lectures on fifth grade students’ fraction addition and subtraction learning. This study applied the methodology of a quasi-experimental pre-test and post test same group design on a sample of 95 fifth grade students in four private schools with two different curricula chosen in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The intervention with three teaching methods (with videos, virtual manipulatives, and concrete manipulatives) as experimental and traditional teaching method as control were applied for two weeks in the spring of 2022. The results show that there were some differences between the students’ performance in fraction addition while they learned it through video, virtual manipulative, and concrete manipulative compared to the traditional lecturing method. Among the three methods experimented, students performed better in concrete manipulative followed by videos and virtual manipulatives. Among the two curricula,UAE MOE and American, the result was in favor to the UAE MOE. Also, there was statistically significant difference between the boys’and girls’performance, with girls’performance being better than the boys in learning fractions. The findings of this study have pedagogical implications to improve the students’ skills in fractions through improving the teaching strategies. Therefore, the students’ achievement and attitude toward learning mathematics can be improved with the use of appropriate tools in teaching and learning

    Criteria for Considering the Shari’a Need when Applied to a Commercial Insurance Contract: An Applied Jurisprudential Study

    The research aimed to know the reality of the «Shari’a Need», and how to control and measure it. By proposing a list of criteria used in assessing their existence, consideration or elimination, and to test the criteria, the researcher applied them to a commercial insurance. In order to achieve the goal of the research; the researcher used the inductive analytical method, by following the rules suggested by the Fuqaha’, which required an analysis of some Fuqaha’ sayings, to build standards. The research concluded that the «Need» that some Fuqaha’ considered in the permissibility of commercial insurance does not meet these criteria in a way that supports their opinion. Accordingly; Commercial insurance in its current form is not permissible, which is the opinion of the majority of contemporary Fuqaha’. The research recommends calibration what accepts calibration from the fundamentalist tools, which enable the mujtahid and the researcher to stand on the Shari’a ruling in a disciplined manner, and reduce the difference between the mujtahidin’s considerations of the tools and methods of ruling making

    Formalization of the Trading Company Contract and the Challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution: An Analytical & Comparative Study

    Recently, the world experiencing major internet-based technological changes that led to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. of which blockchain and smart contract are technologies. The first is a large, open and distributed digital record and store data, backed up and exchanged between users, secure and more reliable manner without the intervention of a trusted intermediary, allowing the smart contract to automate the implementation of contract terms. This study, focused on trying to identify its impact on the official contract of the trading company and the extent to which it could compensate for the role of the notary. Which concluded that blockchain technology is considered electronic writing, but it cannot be adopted into evidence as traditional writing due to the inability to identify the parties, especially in the public blockchain. But at the same time, the Emirati legislator has digitized the work of the notary, in exchange for the silence of the Algerian legislator on the regulation of using the information technologies by the notary. Nevertheless, the blockchain and the smart contract as a technology based on the elimination of the role of trusted intermediary, cannot replace the role of the notary, but rather it will remain its assistant

    IDENTIFICATION OF STUDENTS AT RISK OF LOW PERFORMANCE BY COMBINING RULE-BASED MODELS, ENHANCED MACHINE LEARNING, AND KNOWLEDGE GRAPH TECHNIQUES

    Technologies and online learning platforms have changed the contemporary educational paradigm, giving institutions more alternatives in a complex and competitive environment. Online learning platforms, learning-based analytics, and data mining tools are increasingly complementing and replacing traditional education techniques. However, academic underachievement, graduation delays, and student dropouts remain common problems in educational institutions. One potential method of preventing these issues is by predicting student performance through the use of institution data and advanced technologies. However, to date, scholars have yet to develop a module that can accurately predict students’ academic achievement and commitment. This dissertation attempts to bridge that gap by presenting a framework that allows instructors to achieve four goals: (1) track and monitor the performance of each student on their course, (2) identify at-risk students during the earliest stages of the course progression (3), enhance the accuracy with which at-risk student performance is predicted, and (4) improve the accuracy of student ranking and development of personalized learning interventions. These goals are achieved via four objectives. Objective One proposes a rule-based strategy and risk factor flag to warn instructors about at-risk students. Objective Two classifies at-risk students using an explainable ML-based model and rule-based approach. It also offers remedial strategies for at-risk students at each checkpoint to address their weaknesses. Objective Three uses ML-based models, GCNs, and knowledge graphs to enhance the prediction results. Objective Four predicts students’ ranking using ML-based models and clustering-based KGEs with the aim of developing personalized learning interventions. It is anticipated that the solution presented in this dissertation will help educational institutions identify and analyze at-risk students on a course-by-course basis and, thereby, minimize course failure rates

    The Term “Public Interest” Within the Regional Human Rights Systems: Serves the Interest of the Individual or the State?

    While regional human rights charters are established to consider the specificities of their respective regions and are expected to provide either undiminished or restricted protection, aiming to create a more equitable protection system than the international one, the regional charters have often followed the same path as the international agreements. In these charters, certain provisions have been included under the pretext of public interest to restrict certain group rights. Undoubtedly, this term has directly influenced court decisions within regional human rights protection systems, leading to various limitations on human rights and granting courts the power to subject these rights to a balance test to serve the purpose of protecting public interest. This study, as its main objective, explores how the concept of public interest constraint was incorporated into regional charters concerning the rights to freedom of thought, conscience, religion, freedom of opinion, and expression. It also examines the influence of this concept on the decisions of regional courts when adjudicating disputes between states and individuals who resort to regional mechanisms for redress after exhausting their national legal remedies. By delving into the preparatory work behind regional charters and considering the political and legal contexts and their interactions, the study reveals that these factors have often led to the development of regional charters that closely align with international conventions for the protection of human rights, primarily for political reasons and in the interest of states. However, despite this alignment, the jurisprudence of regional courts in Europe, the Americas, and Africa has introduced new dimensions to interpret the boundaries of public interest. In the majority of the cases examined, the courts have ruled in favor of safeguarding individual rights

    CHARACTERIZATION AND GENOMIC ANALYSIS OF TWO ESCHERICHIA COLI O157:H7 BACTERIOPHAGES ISOLATED FROM PIGEONS

    Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli, also known as EHEC, is a subset of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), and it has recently been identified as one of the principal foodborne pathogens. E. coli O157:H7 is the most important serotype of STEC for its role in causing foodborne illnesses. E. coli O157:H7 could cause various gastroenteritis symptoms such as diarrhea, hemolytic uremic syndrome, hemorrhagic colitis, and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and may cause death. Elimination of E. coli O157:H7 during food processing and storage is a possible solution. Bacteriophages have a significant impact on bacterial populations in nature due to their ability to lyse their bacterial host. All E. coli O157:H7 phages that have been previously announced were found in ruminants or swine. Here, I studied the characterization and genomic analysis of two lytic E. coli O157:H7 bacteriophages isolated from feaces of wild pigeon; UAE MI- 01 and Ec_MI-02. This is the first time to report E. coli O157:H7 phages from birds feaces. UAE_MI-01 belonged to the family Siphoviridae in order Caudovirales. UAE_MI-01 had a with a burst size of almost 100 plaque-forming units (PFU) per host cell after a latent period of 20 min and an adsorption rate constant (K) of 1.25 × 10−7 mL/min. UAE_MI-01 was found stable at a wide range of temperature, pH and some of the common laboratory disinfectants. The 44,281 bp-long genomes of the phage had an average GC content of 54.7%. On the other hand, Ec_MI-02 belonged to genus Tequatrovirus in the order Caudovirales. The K value of Ec_MI-02 was found to be 1.55 × 10−8 mL/min. The latent period was almost 50 min with burst size of almost 10 PFU /host cell. Ec_MI-02 was stable at a wide range of pH, and temperature and was resistant to ethanol 70%. Its genome was made of 266 genes with total 165454 bp and average GC content of 35.5%. It is worthy of note that wherever the phage is present, the host cell must be present. Thus, if the bacteriophage of E. coli O157:H7 is present in the feaces of a wild bird, then the E. coli O157:H7, is most probably present in wild birds. The current study provides additional evidence that wild birds could also be a good natural reservoir for bacteriophages and could be good candidates for phage therapy. Studying the genetic makeup of bacteriophages that infect human pathogens is crucial for ensuring their safe usage in the food industry

    DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN LOCAL GOVERNMENTS: A CASE STUDY OF ABU DHABI MUNICIPALITY TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT

    The new generation is rapidly adapting to the digital era, where government and private services are being transformed into electronic services, commonly known as Eservices. Cities are leveraging digitalization to streamline their business processes and business services. This digitalization has improved service delivery time and quality for individuals. With digitalization, business processes align with technology, enhancing performance and customer satisfaction. However, there are challenges associated with digitalization, particularly people working in various municipality departments who find it challenging to adapt to digitization. Employees may take time to adjust to the new techniques and technologies, which may hamper the actions of the municipality departments. Therefore, the main objective of this research proposal is to investigate the benefits of digital transformation in different departments of local municipalities. In this research, we will use qualitative and quantitative methods for data collection through surveys. The study will be conducted in the Transport Department of Abu Dhabi Municipality, targeting the employees and customers in the Abu Dhabi and Al Ain centers. The results indicate that around 86% of the respondents believe that service delivery has improved due to digital transformation, with 96% of the participants considering digital transformation essential. Customer satisfaction is closely linked to the development of online service, and a considerable percentage of respondents confirm that service delivery time and efficiency have significantly improved due to digital transformation. Finally, a reference framework for digital transformation will be presented, and discuss the result outcomes based on this reference framework

    NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF CONCRETE BEAMS WITH DISCONTINUITY REGIONS REINFORCED WITH NONMETALLIC REINFORCING BARS

    Nonmetallic Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) reinforcing bars are considered a viable alternative to the conventional steel reinforcement because of their high strength-to-weight ratio and noncorrosive nature. This research aimed to investigate the nonlinear structural behavior of GFRP-reinforced concrete beams with discontinuity regions (D-regions) through numerical analysis. Three-dimensional (3D) numerical models were developed to simulate the nonlinear structural behavior of GFRP-reinforced deep beams with and without web openings. The models adopted realistic constitutive laws that accounted for the nonlinear behavior of the materials used. Predictions of the numerical models were validated against published experimental data. A parametric study was conducted to examine the effect of key variables on the structural behavior of GFRP-reinforced deep beams with and without web openings. The interaction between the concrete compressive strength (fc’), shear span-to-depth ratio (a/h), size and location of the web opening was elucidated. Simplified analytical formulas capable of predicting the shear capacity of GFRP-reinforced beams with D-regions were introduced based on an inverse analysis of results of the numerical simulation models. Predictions of the proposed analytical formulas were in good agreement with the results of the simulation models

    The Effectiveness of JASPER Program Tasks for Early Intervention in Developing Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Skills

    The current study aims to use JASPER program components; joint attention, symbolic play, engagement, and regulation to develop the skills of children with autism and reduce the level of disorder. The study sample consisted of 7 children (3 males and 4 females) in addition to their mothers, the children were enrolled in one of the centers for people with disabilities in the United Arab Emirates. The chronological ages of the sample were between 6 to 8 years. The study used a set of tools to achieve the objectives of the study, including the scale of Jasper tasks for Early Intervention, the autism disorder scale, and a training program prepared by the researcher. The results of the study confirmed the effectiveness of the training program in improving the average scores of the experimental group children on JASPER scale for the dimensions and total score. The results also revealed that there were statistically significant differences between the mean scores before and after the application of the training program for the experimental group children for the dimensions and the total degree of autism disorder diagnosis scale in the direction of the post-test. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences between all of post-tests and follow-up tests (a month after the end of the program application).
