    A Proposed Perception of the Employment of Digital Media for Arab Universities in Disseminating and Consolidating the Values of Coexistence and Tolerance Among University Youth

    The current study aimed mainly to develop a proposed perception of employing media of Arab universities to disseminate and consolidate the values of coexistence and tolerance among university youth. The researcher adopted the descriptive analytical approach, which was based on the survey study in collecting study data through two methods: the content analysis of Arab universities’ media - (25) universities- the media includes: (universities’ websites, their social media, and their mobile phone applications), in addition to the questionnaire method of collecting primary data from the study sample -Staff Members- in those universities, and the sample included (355) individuals. The researcher used a set of appropriate statistical methods to analyze the survey data using the statistical packages program (SPSS, V.25). The study concluded several results, most notably: the lack of interest of most Arab universities in the subject of the research employing their media to disseminate and consolidate the values of coexistence and tolerance among university youth. The results of the survey also showed the superiority of (Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities Sciences) in the United Arab Emirates as it is ranked the first among the Arab universities in devoting an interest in disseminating and consolidating the values of coexistence and tolerance among university youth through its media. In light of the results of the study, a proposed vision was developed that includes a set of proposed elements, steps, and mechanisms for employing the media of Arab universities in disseminating and consolidating the values of coexistence and tolerance among university youth.     INTRINSIC PROGRAMMED DEATH LIGAND 1 (PD-L1) ROLE IN PROMOTING TRIPLE NEGATIVE BREAST CANCER (TNBC) PROGRESSION

    This thesis is concerned with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), which is characterized by lack of estrogen, progesterone, and HER2 receptors expression, making targeted drugs ineffective. TNBC has a high proliferative rate, which results in a poor prognosis. Chemotherapy, the primary treatment for metastatic breast cancer, is not an ideal choice due to its toxicity towards normal cells. Therefore, Cancer-targeted therapy has been developed to improve the specificity and strength of the immune system against cancer cells. PD-L1 is an immunosuppressive protein that inactivates T cells by binding to the inhibitory receptor PD-1. The clinical use of PD-L1 blockade agents has progressed beyond basic mechanistic studies. However, the lack of knowledge on how PD-L1 regulates cancer hallmarks can lead to missed therapeutic opportunities. The main objective of this research is to identify the phenotypic changes in TNBC cells after PD-L1 gene knockout and pinpoint the PD-L1 related intrinsic cellular signaling pathways responsible for promoting cancer growth and migration. The study investigates PD-L1 role in the progression of TNBC MDA-MB-231 cancer by using three designs of CRISPR-Cas9 lentiviral particles to knock out the PD-L1. Our results revealed that PD-L1 knockout significantly inhibited MDA-MB-231 cell proliferation and colony formation in vitro and tumor growth in the chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model in vivo. PD-L1 knockout also decreased the migration and invasion of MDA-MB-231 cells in vitro. We demonstrate a potential mechanism by which PD-L1 promotes MDA-MB-231 cells\u27 malignancy through the regulation of PI3K/AKT and MAPK/ERK pathways. We have also reported that PD-L1 regulate the expression of p21, RhoA, c-Fos, c-Myc, Survivin, COX-2, in TNBC cells. Our findings provide insights into new potential cancer therapeutic strategies and suggest the development of anti-PD-L1 combination therapies for effective TNBC treatment

    AUTOMATION OF CRACK DETECTION AND QUANTIFICATION IN CIVIL INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITIES USING DEEP LEARNING TECHNIQUES

    Cracks are the earliest signs of structural deterioration that reduce the lifespan and reliability of structures and can lead to severe damage. Assessment and monitoring of the facilities are required for lifetime maintenance and failure prediction. Structure condition information can be obtained manually, i.e., through subjective visual inspection and evaluation by human experts. Manual inspection techniques are labor-intensive, time-consuming, and inspector-dependent, i.e., vulnerable to the inspector’s perceptiveness. Automatic crack detection is crucial at the earliest stage to avoid further structure degradation and allow fast intervention. Deep Learning algorithms have become more popular in crack detection systems in recent years. However, many challenges are associated with the development of Deep Learning based crack detection and segmentation systems. Some of the limitations and challenges include the deployment of DL models on devices with limited computational resources, availability of public datasets, selection of optimum dataset size, the impact of parameters such as variance within data samples, network depth, and the required number of training epochs on the performance of the model. Additionally, improving the performance of DL-based crack detection and segmentation approaches presents an added complexity, particularly when integrating them with various modules. Moreover, achieving efficient segmentation of cracks and evaluating their severity based on their quantity poses an additional challenge. Therefore, to address these challenges, we developed various lightweight and optimized novel DL models for crack classification, localization, and segmentation tasks. Furthermore, we investigated how data and model parameters affect the performance of the models. The crack classification and localization performance of the DL was enhanced by exploring ensemble modeling and its integration with traditional classifiers. Additionally, we introduced two novel architectures for crack segmentation tasks, one utilizing ViT (Vision Transformer) blended with a Sliding Window and Tubularity Flow Field (TuFF) algorithm and the other built upon U-Net, which we have named RS-Net. The proposed RS-Net architecture was also integrated with various morphological operations such as skeletonization and crack measurement to assess the severity of cracks and categorize them into hairline, medium, and severe labels based on their respective width. The proposed models were trained by utilizing both publicly available datasets and custom datasets collected from concrete and pavement structures. Extensive Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed models have promising performance, outperforming earlier models on testing data for crack classification, localization, and segmentation with a promising accuracy (\u3e0.97). Overall, the proposed research has significant potential to automate traditional inspection techniques and help the authorities to make well-informed decisions about the maintenance of the structures

    DESIGN OF A MINI LEO GNSS CONSTELLATION AND A CUSTOM GNSS SIGNAL SIMULATOR DEVELOPMENT

    This thesis is concerned with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) constellations and signals, and how can they provide rapid Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) services for the emerging technologies. The first objective of this thesis is to perform a simulation of a new mini-LEO GNSS constellation at 1000 km and assess its performance in different scenarios. The second objective is to design a signal simulator for two signals that are propriety of the Global Navigation Satellite Augmentation Systems (GNSSaS), which are the BOC(2,2) and ATLBOC(7.5, BOC(2,2)) modulation schemes. To simulate the mini-LEO GNSS constellation, two software were used: System Tool Kit to design the orbits of the constellation, and Skydel GNSS simulator to test the orbital scenarios as a functional GNSS constellation. To generate the GNSSaS signals, Gnu Radio which a specialized Software Defined Radio (SDR) software was used. The optimized mini-constellation consisted of four planes separated by 30°, each plane had three satellites with a true anomaly difference of 15°. The optimized constellation showed a 3D accuracy of 14-18 meters, and Time to First Fix (TTFF) of more than 200 seconds. The LEO GNSS constellation performance was not expected for LEO GNSS due to the fact that the U-blox EVK-M8T GNSS receiver was not designed to receive LEO GNSS signals. This is because of the higher dynamics of the LEO satellite compared to MEO, whereby the computed radial velocity and acceleration at 1000 km are 5380.485 m/s and 2.463 g respectively. The spectrum of both BOC(2,2) and ALTBOC(7.5, BOC(2,2)) signals were accurate and as expected, except for spectral lines presented in the ALTBOC(7.5, BOC(2,2)). The simulated GNSSaS signals are consistent with theory and measurements. The research paves the way for further LEO GNSS development, by designing, optimizing and simulating LEO GNSS constellation, finding the lack of receiver technologies for LEO purposes, and generating first of its kind ALTBOC modulation for the GNSSaS satellite program

    CORTICAL ACTIVATION AS A RESULT OF READING STIMULI FOR STUDENTS WITH DYSLEXIA AND TYPICALLY DEVELOPING: NEW INSIGHTS FROM FUNCTIONAL NEAR INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY NEUROIMAGING (fNIRS)

    As far as we know, there are few studies that investigated cortical activation using fNIRS and none has examined these hemodynamic changes associated with reading Arabic skills. This study evaluated the changes in cortical activation parameters in terms of oxyhemoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin, hemoglobin difference, and total hemoglobin concentrations observed in the brain (cerebral cortex) of 3rd grade students during reading Arabic language tasks. The concentrations of cortical activation’s parameters were measured using a functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) device. The sample size was comprised of 14 3rd grade students that were enrolled in an inclusive environment public school in Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates. Following an initial dyslexia-screening test, the participated students were divided into two groups and labelled as typically developed (TD) students (n=7) and students with dyslexia (Dys) (n=7). Using an experimental block design, all of the students were asked to complete 3 Arabic reading tasks with each task consisted of 2 rounds, where the items in round 2 in each task were shuffled to serve as a new challenge for the students. Reading performance was measured by accuracy and latency. The results showed fewer errors and shorter latency for TD students than Dys students. The obtained cortical activation values for TD students were significantly higher (p 0.05) when compared to Dys students, indicating that TD students exhibited greater brain activity and were more effective at reading tasks. A negative correlation between cortical activation parameters and performance was observed. Therefore, this research showed the potential of fNIRS to track these brain activity changes and supported its application in the field of educational neuroscience

    Chatbots, also called digital systems that require a natural language-based interface for user interaction, are increasingly being integrated into our daily lives. These chatbots respond intelligently to voice and text and function as sophisticated entities. Its functioning includes the recognition of multiple human languages through the application of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques. These chatbots find applications in various areas such as e-commerce services, medical assistance, recommendation systems, and educational purposes. This reflects the versatility and widespread adoption of this technology. AI chatbots play a crucial role in improving IT support in IT Service Management (ITSM) for better business continuity. By automating routine tasks, these chatbots significantly help streamline operations, improve overall service delivery, and ensure efficient and effective support to users. This integration of AI into ITSM not only increases the speed of problem resolution, but also contributes to a more seamless and responsive IT environment, ultimately promoting smoother business operations. Research on the digitization of manual processes is critical to gain insights into their impact, identify opportunities and challenges, guide policies and decisions, promote innovation, and improve education and training. In this context, the integration of chatbots is proving to be an important component in the digitalization of processes, offering companies and organizations numerous advantages. In this research, I introduced a model designed to refine chatbot responses to user questions, making it an invaluable asset for study. The model performed admirably, achieving an accuracy rate of 90%. Moreover, I conducted a survey involving IT officers from the same organization to assess the effectiveness of the chatbot system more accurately and identify areas for refinement. Based on the outcomes of both the model and the survey evaluation, the proposed model shows promise in digitizing service management, thereby enhancing business resilience

    After the tragic covid pandemic in 2020, many things changed in the world, from learning physically all the way to e-learning, as the whole world was forced to switch digitally. It is expected that a lot of people will be more willing to invest in new technologies that aid in human development and among them are human microchip implants. The emerging technology of human microchip implants is slowly catching the attention of various countries around the world after the sudden surge of adoption in Europe. With the introduction of Biohax microchip implants in the UAE by Etisalat it is most likely that there will be more technological advancements and plans of adoption. Moreover, not so long-ago wearable devices also started as an emerging technology that is nowadays being used by a lot of people and that is why both wearable devices and microchip implants are worth comparing and exploring. Furthermore, this research aims to provide a preliminary study on the general perception of UAE citizens towards human microchip implants and wearable devices. The research will shed light on the perceived barriers amongst the population as well as investigate impediments to the adoption of human microchip implants and wearable devices in the future of the UAE. The outcome should provide the people of the UAE with a clear foundation of what is expected in case of adoption and provide initial recommendations and strategies

    Legal Regulation of Insurance Mortgage for The Vehicles in UAE Law The mortgage that applies to vehicles is the insurance mortgage, because of the special nature movables have the property of self-identification, which leads to apply the registration rule on the ownership deed. The insurance mortgage is concluded between the mortgagee, who is the creditor, and the mortgager, who is either the debtor himself or someone else (the in-kind guarantor). In order for this contract to be validly concluded, it must fulfill all its elements and conditions. The objective conditions stipulated in the general rules for concluding contracts must be available, such as consent, subject matter, and cause. Also, special conditions must be present for such contract, which are the formality conditions. The insurance mortgage is created according to a formal contract, that is, the legislator has drawn a special way for its conclusion.This study aimed to identify the mechanism for regulating the insurance mortgage contract for all types of vehicles in UAE legislation. This was done by reviewing and discussing the legislative texts related to the insurance mortgage. Also, by referring to the judicial rulings in this regard. In this study, the legal texts related to the insurance mortgage for vehicles were analyzed and scrutinized, in UAE Civil Transactions Law, and other relevant legislation.One of the most important findings of this study is that the Emirati legislator regulated the insurance mortgage contract for vehicles through the texts that regulate real estate insurance mortgages. The insurance mortgage contract for vehicles is written by the mortgagee, which is mostly banks in the UAE. The insurance mortgage contracts took on the nature of adhesion contracts, which means that the mortgage debtor cannot negotiate the terms of the contract. The UAE legislator also issued a special law that regulates the guarantee of rights in movable properties, but it excluded the insurance mortgage contract on vehicles from the inclusion and the application of this regulation to it, because the insurance mortgage contract on vehicles has a special regulation which is applied to real estate. This real estate regulation applies to movables of a special nature.One of the most important recommendations presented by the researcher is to include the insurance mortgage contract for vehicles within the regulation of the law guaranteeing rights to movables, because the insurance mortgage contract for vehicles is based on formality (registration). Registration is also a pillar of the guarantee contract, which the legislator regulated in the law guaranteeing rights to movables

    MALADAPTIVE DAYDREAMING AND SOCIAL ANXIETY: PREVALENCE AND THE MEDIATING ROLE OF EMOTIONAL REGULATION

    Previous studies have generated mixed evidence regarding the magnitude of the prevalence of Maladaptive Daydreaming (MD). In addition, although previous studies have identified an association between Maladaptive Daydreaming (MD) and Social Anxiety (SA), literature is sparse in exploring the underlying factors such as emotional regulation difficulties that might mediate this relationship. The current study attempted to investigate the prevalence of MD and self-perceived levels of Social Anxiety (SA) among undergraduate students in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It also attempted to explore whether difficulties in regulating emotions mediate the relationship between MD and self-perceived levels SA. A cross-sectional design with a convenience sampling method was utilized to recruit 418 undergraduate students from UAE University. Data was collected using Maladaptive Daydreaming Scale (MDS-16), Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale Short Form (DERS-SF), Social Interaction Anxiety (SIAS-6), and Social Phobia Scales (SPS-6). Statistical analyses included descriptive analyses, chisquare test of independence, binary logistic regression, correlation analyses and mediational analyses. The results of the study revealed that 53.8% of the participants exhibited scores indicative of the presence of MD, and 62% of the participants had scores indicative of SA. In addition, as predicted, difficulties in regulating emotions was found to partially mediate the relationship between MD and SA. The findings of the study indicate that a substantial portion of the population might be affected by MD and SA. In addition, it sheds light on the complex factors that underlie the relationship between MD and SA
