AI-POWERED PEDAGOGY: REVOLUTIONIZING STUDENTS’ LEARNING EXPERIENCES THROUGH INTEGRATION OF AI TECHNOLOGIES
This research examines the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the educational sector with the aim of enhancing student learning outcomes. AI offers tailored learning experiences, interactive educational content, prompt feedback, and access to diverse learning resources. Nonetheless, challenges including addiction, costliness, privacy infringement, bias, ethical dilemmas, market competition, and moral considerations require resolution. Research particularly delves into the utilization of chatbots, and algorithms designed to simulate human interactions and generate text resembling human speech. Educational applications powered by AI have the potential to heighten student engagement, comprehension, and academic performance by substituting traditional assignments with concise, information-rich lessons. Furthermore, AI assists in crafting queries, recommendations, and educational materials, thereby enabling educators to prioritize student interactions. However, addressing concerns such as accessibility, impartiality, algorithmic predispositions, reluctance to adopt change, privacy assurance, security measures, ethical considerations, and equitable resource allocation remains imperative
CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF 304 STAINLESS STEEL IN H2SO4/NaCl IN THE ABSENCE AND PRESENCE OF MOLYBDATE AND TUNGSTATE
In this study, the corrosion behavior of 304 austenitic stainless steel was investigated in H2SO4 solutions, H2SO4 as a function of Cl- ions concentration, H2SO4 as a function of MoO42- ions concentration, and H2SO4 + Cl- ions as a function of MoO42- ions concentration. Moreover, the synergistic inhibition of MoO42- and WO42- ions was investigated in 0.1 M H2SO4, with the solution pH adjusted to 3.0. The findings show that the corrosion current density (icorr) increases while the polarization resistance (Rp) decreases with increased H2SO4 concentrations in the absence of Cl- ions. In the presence of Cl- ions, icorr increases whereas Rp decreases with increasing Cl- concentration in ≤1 M H2SO4 solutions. In contrast, in concentrations ≥ 2 M H2SO4, icorr decreases while Rp increases with increasing Cl- ions concentration up to ~ 0.5-1.0 M Cl- ions concentration, while the trend is reversed in concentrations ≥ 1 M NaCl as the Rp decreases and icorr increases with increasing Cl- ions concentration. The pitting potential (Epit) decreases as Cl- ions concentration increases in a given H2SO4 concentration as expected; however, no correlation is found between Epit and [Cl-]/[H2SO4] ratio or Epit and [Cl-] when solutions of different concentrations of H2SO4 + Cl- were taken into consideration. The MoO42- ions acted as an excellent corrosion inhibitor in H2SO4 solutions in the absence of Cl- ions, with the IE% exceeding 99%. However, in H2SO4 solutions in the presence of Cl- ions, MoO42- ions acted both as a corrosion accelerator and a corrosion inhibitor depending on the concentrations of H2SO4, Cl- ions, and MoO42- ions, with the inhibition tendency increasing with the decrease in the Cl- concentration and the increase in the MoO42- concentration. For the MoO42- ion to effectively induce inhibition in H2SO4 + NaCl solutions, its concentration must be high enough to shift the corrosion potential to the passive range in the polarization curves. Finally, both MoO42- and WO42- ions acted as excellent corrosion inhibitors of 304 stainless steel in 0.10 M H2SO4 (pH = 3.0), with the two ions showing a synergistic inhibition effect, with the maximum corrosion inhibition occurring when a 1:1 concentration ratio was used
SCHOOL LEADERSHIP FOR THE PRACTICE OF INCLUSIVE EDUCATION IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
The number of students with disabilities in regular classrooms is increasing. In 2020, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) introduced a new policy with the goal of promoting inclusive education in all public schools. Although the UAE government is committed to the education of children with disabilities, the role of school leaders is vital to the successful implementation of inclusive education in schools. While school leaders have been found to be the main agents in steering inclusive practices, their contribution to practices in schools in the UAE context remains empirically unresearched. The objective of this study was to explore elementary school leaders’ contribution towards the enactment of inclusive education in schools. The study was guided by a heuristic inclusive education leadership framework, which is a strength-based leadership conceptual model focusing on the role of school leaders under transactional, transformational, and instructional leadership within a school context. The study employed an explanatory sequential mixed methods design. The first phase involved the collection of quantitative data (N = 151) from school leaders, which was followed by in-depth qualitative data interviews (N = 10) to develop insight into experiences. The Heuristic Inclusive Education Leadership Scale, developed for this study, was used for data collection in the first phase. Furthermore, the quality of inclusive practices was measured using the Quality Scale of Inclusive School Development (QU!S-S). The study provided theoretical support for the heuristic leadership model that guided the study (see Paper 1). The findings of the study show a significant relationship between the tenets of the heuristic leadership models (transactional, transformational, and instructional) (see Paper 1). The results provide support for the heuristic inclusive leadership model as a valuable training model for school leader training in the UAE. Demographic variables, such as educational qualifications, also provided additional insight into school leaders (see Paper 1). Additionally, a relationship was found between school leadership and inclusive practices (see Paper 2). However, participants were ambivalent regarding both school leadership and inclusive practices (Paper 3). Follow-up qualitative data showed that school leaders demonstrated an in-depth understanding of their role in fostering inclusive practices in schools. For instance, school leaders emphasized that effective collaboration is needed for the successful implementation of inclusive education. In conclusion, the study highlights the need to redefine inclusive education leadership and the provision of appropriate training for school leaders in the UAE. Specifically, the study concludes with a recommendation for contextualized training programs, policy adaptations, and continued research to enhance leadership capabilities for successful inclusive practices in the UAE
VALORIZATION OF THE POLYMERIC CONSTITUENTS IN PLASTIC WASTES THROUGH THERMO-CHEMICAL PROCESSES BY USING VIABLE METAL OXIDES ADDITIVES
The rapid accumulation of different types of plastic waste necessitates the development of effective and economically viable waste management operations. Such a process should ideally not only mitigate associated environmental burdens but also recycle and recover value-added products. Through incineration or pyrolysis, thermal processing has emerged as a mainstream approach to waste management of the ever-increasing loads of different categorized plastic wastes. Throughout the work of the thesis, we have utilized a multitude of complementary techniques spanning material characterizations, catalysis, kinetic modelling, and density functional theory (DFT) to comprehend the complex chemistry that underpins catalytic chemical recycling of plastic wastes. Effective chemical recycling of halogen-contaminated plastic wastes entails the removal of HCl and HBr by fixation of the halogen content and the subsequent production of pure hydrocarbon streams. Such scenarios apply to chemical recycling of the polymeric fraction in e-waste, medical waste and other plastic wastes that typically contain high loads of organic bromine and chlorine in the form of BFRs and PVC; respectively. Driven by the unprecedented accumulation of facemasks during the Covid-19 era, we commenced the project by exploring catalytic upgrading of the various polymeric fractions in the facemasks. Thus, we investigated the upgrading of fragments from the facemasks over niobium-doped CeO2 catalysts under oxidative and pyrolytic conditions. We found that the process to convert alkyl chain polymers into methylated benzenes compounds; could be utilized as transportation fuels. In the second project, we found that the co-pyrolysis of PVC with metal oxides (MO’s) at temperatures between 300 and 500°C resulted in the production of metallic chlorides. PVC with ZnO mixture captured 91.13% of the emitted HCl, whereas ZnFe2O4 and NiZnFe4O4 seized the HCl emission to 65.78% and 83.56%, respectively. During the pyrolysis reaction, Lewis acids such as ZnCl2, FeCl2, and NiCl2 were formed which triggered the isomerization of cis to trans olefins that made it less favorable to undergo cyclization reactions. As such significant depreciation in the formation of benzene derivatives and poly aromatic hydrocarbons was revealed by GCMS with the inclusion of MO’s, whereas it enhanced the formation of alkanes. The chemical component in the non-metallic fraction in e-waste, most of the bromine content is emitted as inorganic bromine in the form of HBr. HBr is emitted in appreciable quantities during the thermal decomposition of printed circuit board; PCB. The latter contains ~ 4% BFRs by weight. The highly corrosive, yet relatively reactive HBr, renders recovery of bromine-free hydrocarbon streams from brominated polymers in PCBs which is very challenging. Via an integrated experimentalsimulation formalism, the co-pyrolysis of PCB with Al2O3 explores the potential of deploying alumina oxide as a debromination agent of Br-containing hydrocarbon fractions in PCBs. An experimental setup was designed on a lab scale using a flow reactor to carry out the pyrolysis and oxidation reaction of PCBs and different BFRs. TBP = (Tri bromophenol) is utilized as a model compound of BFRs as their most common formulations include brominated phenolic rings. Co-pyrolysis of hematite with TBP entails a rather low cracking capacity under pyrolytic conditions. Analysis of condensate products indicates that oxidative degradation of a gaseous stream of TBP results mainly in the formation of brominated alkanes such as bromoethane and bromo-pentane. Likewise, Ion chromatography (IC) measurements disclosed a noticeable reduction in the concentrations of escaped HBr. Transformation of iron oxides into iron bromides (FeBr2) during pyrolysis and combustion operations is evident through XRD measurements. The co-pyrolysis of tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBA; as another model compound for the bromine content in Waste PCBs) with calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) made conclusive evidence in a complete fixation of the bromine content and produces bromine-free pyrolysis oil. For instance, measurements by IC and FTIR (gas sampling cell) confirm the disappearance of HBr from the gaseous stream during co-pyrolysis of a TBBA:Ca(OH)2 mixture between 200-500 oC. Likewise, no brominated compounds could be detected from the analysis of the condensate and gas fractions. As the collected oil is dominated by nalkanes, it is concluded that Ca(OH)2 displays both cracking and debromination capacity. DFT calculations map out important reaction pathways that operate in the initial degradation of the TBP molecule, whereas for Ca(OH)2 and TBBA mixture, the reaction pathways for the transformation of Ca(OH)2 into CaBr2 via dissociative addition of HBr molecules were also investigated. Here we also report the potentiality of producing valueadded products from the polymeric wastes using the GCMS by virtue of catalytic pyrolysis, co-pyrolysis, and oxidation of the considered waste materials. The thermo kinetic parameters are derived for the TBP and TBBA incorporated with hematite and Ca(OH)2 by using the model-free (Coats-Redfern) and model fitting (KAS, FWO, and Starink models) approaches from the thermogravimetric analysis data (TGA). Obtained profiles infer that the addition of hematite to TBP systematically reduces the governing activation energy (Ea) in both thermochemical processes compared to neat TBP. The computed Ea values for the pyrolytic decomposition of pure TBBA and its mixture with Ca(OH)2 reside in the narrow ranges of 111.7-112.1 kJ/mol and 62.8-63.4 kJ/mol, respectively. The results obtained from the kinetic parameters find direct application in reactor modeling (rotary kiln) and heat transfer design in domains related to the recycling of e-waste. Outcomes from the project are expected to pave the way toward the commercialization of a continuous chemical recycling process of polymeric waste that is based on the use of affordable additives. The project taps into optimizing a zero-emission route that could accommodate the treatment of polymeric wastes (masks, PVC, and ewaste) within the context of a waste-to-energy approach that has been recently implemented in the UAE targeting UN SDG 12. Fundamental and applied knowledge to be attained in this research are instrumental in the pursuit of closing the gap in the circular economy strategy of polymeric waste in general
TECHNOLOGY-ENHANCED MATHEMATICS TEACHING AND LEARNING: TEACHERS’ PERSPECTIVES ON DIGITAL AND GENERATIVE AI–ENABLED TOOL INTEGRATION THROUGH A TPACK LENS IN ABU DHABI SCHOOLS
Digital learning is an active approach to education in daily life, and it has been implemented in all the schools in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Many strategies, such as platforms, online educational websites, and other applications, were used by teachers to support blended learning and assist students in achieving their goals and accomplishing what is required from their curriculum. The main objective of this study is to examine teachers’ perceptions toward teaching mathematics using digital learning tools in Cycle 2 and Cycle 3. Data was collected from (n=114) mathematics teachers in Abu Dhabi City, UAE, during the spring semester of the 2023 academic year. A descriptive quantitative design was used to gather data using a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire. The results showed that the respondents were open to integrating digital technology into their teaching while also being cautious regarding the increased workload due to the integration. Moreover, results show greater positivity toward digital tools among teachers with higher levels of education in a UAE sample population. All teachers must successfully train to integrate digital tools with knowledge pedagogy. This approach is consistent with the tenets of TPACK, which emphasizes knowledge and understanding for successfully integrating digital tools into conventional teaching. The study contributes to the knowledge of educational systems and curriculum planners regarding integrating digital technology in mathematics teaching and learning. It bridges the gap in mathematics teaching in a growing digital world
ANALYSIS, DESIGN, AND EXPERIMENTAL VALIDATION OF THE THERMAL SUBSYSTEM OF ALAINSAT-1 CUBESAT
This thesis investigates the thermal management techniques of AlAinSat-1 during extremely harsh space conditions. It presents a comprehensive analysis of its thermal behavior using numerical techniques and validates the CubeSat\u27s survivability in space via experimental testing. AlAinSat-1 is a nanocube-shaped satellite carrying Earth observation payloads, including RITA (Remote sensing and Interference detector with radiome-Try and vegetation Analysis) and Locana. Understanding how the CubeSat behaves in harsh space conditions and maintains thermal stability during its mission is critical to its success. The main aim of this study is to employ finite element analysis (FEA) techniques to simulate the thermal behavior of AlAinSat-1 and then validate the simulated results via experimental testing. However, the validation of simulated results against experimental ones was not achieved due to unexpected circumstances that prevented us from conducting a thermal balance test. Therefore, a different but approved approach to validation is followed. The thermal analysis is conducted using Siemens NX’s (Next Generation) software. The CubeSat is modeled and analyzed following a series of stages, including idealization, meshing, assigning thermal properties, assembly, and setting up boundary conditions to examine the satellite\u27s temperature response to environmental conditions. The worst hot and cold scenarios are simulated to predict the limits of CubeSat’s functionality for the success of its mission. Simulated results show that AlAinSat-1 can survive extremely harsh space conditions because its components operate within the operational temperature range. Bakeout and thermal vacuum cycling tests are conducted on AlAinSat-1 using a small Thermal Vacuum Chamber (TVAC) to validate its survivability in space, ensuring it operates within the designated operational temperature limits. The bakeout test lasts 5 hours at 50°C to remove any volatile contaminants from the CubeSat’s sensitive components, avoiding outgassing materials. Results showed a 0.1% total mass loss, which indicates the test\u27s success. On the other hand, the thermal vacuum cycling test is conducted for four cycles at the range of -20°C and +50°C for a dwell time of 1 hour for each cycle. The thermal vacuum cycling test results are used to check if the components of AlAinsat-1 are operating within the operational range as the simulated results suggest. The results of the experimental testing agreed with the simulated results; both show that the components of AlAinSat-1 operate within their operational temperature limits
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL AND SELFPERCEIVED EMPLOYABILITY AND THE MODERATING ROLE OF STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
The employability of university graduates is increasingly crucial for economic development, particularly in the Arab region, where youth unemployment is escalating. This thesis examines the Self-Perceived Employability (SPE) among undergraduate students in the UAE, exploring its relationship with Leadership Potential (LP) and Higher Education Student Engagement (HESE). Previous studies underscore the importance of aligning higher education outcomes with labour market demands. Research in student leadership and student engagement emphasizes that proactive engagement and leadership development are pivotal in enhancing employability. This thesis builds on these findings, focusing on the unique context of the UAE. A quantitative methodology was used to answer three research questions that validated three scales of SPE, LP, and HESE in the context of one public university in the UAE. Statistical analyses, including Structural-Equation Modelling (SEM), were conducted to explore the relationships between these constructs. The results indicate strong positive and significant associations between LP (b = 0.555), HESE (b = 0.463) and SPE. Therefore, validated scales confirm that leadership potential and student engagement significantly influence perceptions of employability among UAE undergraduates. The findings highlight the critical role of higher education institutions in fostering university environments that enhance student engagement and leadership development. The study recommends that educators and policymakers enhance co-curricular and extracurricular offerings to include more leadership development opportunities and enhanced student engagement activities, ensuring students are equipped with the multifaceted skills necessary to navigate the challenges of the labour market effectively
THE MEDIATIONAL ROLE OF RELIGIOSITY IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMOTIONAL REGULATION AND RELATIONSHIP SATISFACTION IN UAE AND TURKEY: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY
Marriage and romantic relationships are significant turning points in personal and social development, contributing to overall well-being and health. In romantic relationship studies, relationship satisfaction is one of the most researched aspects and is affected by various variables, which are gender, relationship duration, and other factors. Among these, religiosity and emotional regulation have been proposed as important aspects as well. However, there is still a gap in the literature to understand how these aspects are connected in non-Western countries like Turkey and the UAE regarding cultural differences. The study aims to explore the mediating role of religiosity in the relationship between emotional regulation, specifically cognitive reappraisal, and expressive suppression—and the relationship. Using a cross-sectional correlational design, data were collected from 110 participants in the UAE and 134 participants in Turkey through convenience and snowball sampling. SPSS was used for demographic analysis and Pearson correlation, while mediation analysis was conducted using Process Macro, with religiosity as the mediator. A significant positive correlation was found between emotional regulation and religiosity in the UAE (r = .206*, p \u3c .05), and a significant negative correlation between expressive suppression and relationship satisfaction in Turkey (r = -.193*, p \u3c .05). However, the mediation models did not yield significant results in either sample. These findings suggest that higher levels of religiosity do not necessarily lead to better emotional regulation or increased relationship satisfaction. This study provides valuable insights into the influence of emotional regulation and religiosity on relationship satisfaction in non-Western cultures, particularly in Turkey and the UAE, and highlights areas for future research
Bodily harm is considered one of the most complex types of damages to estimate compensation for, as it affects the life, work, and livelihood of the injured person. Especially since the physical injury that remains from the harmful act may exacerbate in the future after the issuance of the final judgment in a manner that may not be foreseen by the judge or medical experience, whether in terms of the exacerbation of the harm itself and its constituent elements or in terms of the exacerbation of the harm\u27s value due to currency fluctuations.
This study demonstrates the jurisprudential differences regarding the extent of the permissibility of compensation for the exacerbation of harm, both in terms of the harm itself and its value, and the legal basis for each opinion. Additionally, it illustrates the stance of the UAE legislature and judiciary on this issue, as well as the positions of comparative Arab legislations in Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, and Algeria.
The study aims to establish a clear legal framework that the UAE courts can follow in determining compensation for the Exacerbation of bodily harm.
The research concludes with a set of results and recommendations, including legislating legal provisions in the Federal Civil Transactions Law to recognize the selfexacerbation of bodily harm after the issuance of the final judgement as a new harm and allowing for reconsideration of compensation for it. The UAE legislator should also regulate the right of the injured person to receive additional compensation for the exacerbation of bodily harm
أثر جائحة كورونا (كوفيد 19) على تنفيذ العقود الإدارية
The study raised the problems of the extent to which the Corona pandemic is considered a force majeure or an exceptional circumstance, as each adaptation has legal effects arising from it. Therefore, it was necessary to search the extent to which force majeure conditions or emergency circumstances apply to the Corona pandemic (Covid 19) and its effects. The researcher concluded that it is not generally possible to assert that the Corona pandemic is an emergency circumstance or force majeure. Rather, it is necessary to search the impact of the Corona pandemic on the administrative contract, and then the adaptation is made based on the impact that affected the implementation of this contract. It was also concluded that emergency conditions or force majeure only affect continuous contracts whose implementation is hindered by one of those circumstances or a specific force majeure event, as well as in immediate contracts with deferred execution
