Reading William Faulkner’s Yoknapatawpha in the COVID-19 era: Face masking, lockdown and free bodies
Get PDFCaught in the dilemma of the real and the fictitious, one can only wonder about the connection between literature and the Covid 19 global pandemic. As researcher interested in the writings of William Faulkner, I cannot help drawing analogies between the writer’s fictional Yoknapatawpha and our current Covid 19 situation. In the gendered reactions to the pandemic-imposed reality Yoknapatawpha is always resonant. Masculine rejection of face masks and the ideology underlying such a reaction, the mandatory lockdown which consequently led to rising domestic violence in addition to the popular slogan “My body, my choice” which went viral in social networks are all a reiteration of the narrative of Faulkner’s Yoknapatawpha. Drawing analogies between our contemporary real world and Faulkner’s fictitious county will lead to the conclusion that western cultures and societies have reproduced the same patriarchal ideologies and practices that governed Faulkner’s Yoknapatawpha, turning the writer’s narrative world into a universal world that cannot be anchored in place or time. The paper will study the three phenomena as social realities that echo Faulkner’s fictitious county while referring to psychoanalytical and feminist theories
Design of a 0.6 kWp photovoltaic central for a house located in chone canton ecuador
Get PDFGrid-connected renewable energy systems are one of the most widely used applications in recent years, due to their great potential in semi-urban areas close to the electricity grid. An electric demand study was carried out in a house located in the Chone canton, province of Manabí, Ecuador, to determine the nominal power for the dimensioning of the system. Chone canton has a great potential for a photovoltaic generation thanks to the high levels of solar radiation it receives. The software PVsyst v. 6.70 was used to design the photovoltaic system, together with other parameters such as energy demand and consumption patterns over time. The analysis revealed a nominal power of 0.6 kWp that would satisfy the diurnal consumption of the dwelling. In addition, the implementation of this system would avoid the emission of 0.81 tons of CO2 per year

Fraud pentagon theory in detecting financial perception of financial reporting with good corporate governance as moderator variable
Get PDFThis study aims to provide empirical evidence about fraud pentagon theory in detecting perceptions of fraud with good corporate governance as moderating. The study was conducted at all PT BPRs in Bali Province who held positions as directors and commissioners. The sampling technique uses saturated samples and uses the Yamane formula and produces 225 samples that are worthy of study. The data analysis technique used in moderated regression analysis. The test results found that the pentagon theory fraud indicator namely pressure negatively affects the perception of fraudulent financial reporting. Opportunities and rationality have a positive effect on perceptions of financial reporting fraud. Competence and arrogance do not affect the perception of financial reporting fraud. GCG weakens the negative effect of pressure on perceptions of fraudulent financial reporting. GCG weakens the positive influence of opportunity and rationality on the perception of fraud. GCG does not moderate the effect of competence and arrogance on perceptions of fraudulent financial reporting, but GCG is a type of potential moderation for the interaction of competence and arrogance

From high performance target to social destabilization: Analyzing doping drugs overdose among young manual workers in Northern Benin
Get PDFThis research work seeks to understand the mechanisms through which doping drug overdose gradually leads to social destabilization construct among young rural workers in Northern Benin. Regarded as high-risk behaviors spreading among the active youth, the inappropriate consumption of doping drugs turns out to become a source of public health problems among the majority of farming communities. The sociologically-oriented brainstorming sprouting from this research paper emerges as a result of an ethnographic study drawing on the qualitative research paradigm. It considers the risk perceptions issue in a social environment divided between the local social values conservation and hard work-driven productivity. The analyzed data are collected following long sequences of observations fitted in between by several individuals and focus groups interviews. The households are adopted to serve not only as observation units but also as spaces where the young over users of doping drugs socialize. Therefore, the young manual workers become bogged down in the new momentum giving rise to new social profiles the success of which depends on the overuse of performance-enhancing drugs

Work insecurity and compensation on turnover intention mediated by the job satisfaction of employees
Get PDFAmong the challenges companies must face is to reduce the intensity of employee turnover. Companies need to improve and implement policies that can minimize turnover. The purpose of this study is to examine and explain the influence of job insecurity, compensation, and job satisfaction on turnover intention and examine the mediating role of job satisfaction in the influence of job insecurity and compensation on turnover intention. This research is quantitative associative research conducted at PT. True Partner Style. The total population is 98 employees with a sample of 79 employees. The data were obtained through a questionnaire using the 5-point Likert scale. The data analysis technique used was SEM-PLS. The results revealed that job insecurity has a positive and significant influence on turnover intention, compensation and job satisfaction has a negative influence on turnover intention, job insecurity has a negative influence on job satisfaction, compensation has a positive influence on job satisfaction, and job satisfaction was able to partially mediate the influence of job insecurity and compensation on turnover intention
