Henry Abramson is an Assistant Professor of History and
Judaic Studies at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. 
He is the author of A Prayer for the Government: Ukrainians
and Jews in Revolutionary Times, 1917-1920 (Harvard
University Press, 1999) and numerous scholarly articles. He 
is currently working on a study of Hasidic manuscripts from 
the Warsaw Ghetto.
Pierre Anctil est Directeur p. i., Direction des Relations inter-
culturelles, Ministère des Relations avec les citoyens et
Immigration, Gouvernement du Québec. Son livre le plus
récent est la traduction du deuxième tome des Mémoires
d’Israël Medresh, Le Montréal juif de l’entre deux guerres
(Septentrion, 2001).
Mervin Butovsky is Professor Emeritus of English Literature at
Concordia University in Montreal. His publications include
essays on A.M. Klein and Irving Layton, and interviews 
with Canadian Jewish writers including Adele Wiseman, 
Henry Kreissel, Matt Cohen and Norman Levine. He co-edited
two volumes of studies on the history and culture of the
Montreal Jewish community with Ira Robinson and Pierre
Anctil, and with Ode Garfinkle, translated from the Yiddish 
and edited selected short stories by Yaakov Zipper entitled The
Far Side of the River (1985).

Ode Garfinkle is the daughter of Yaakov Zipper. She has taught
in the Jewish day schools of Montreal. She graduated from
Columbia University’s School of Library Science, and, with
Merivin Butovsky, co-edited and translated from the Yiddish the
selected short stories of Yaakov Zipper entitled The Far Side of
the River (1985).
Joseph B. Glass is the academic co-ordinator of the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem’s Halbert Centre for Canadian Studies.
He lectures at the Hebrew University’s Department of Geography
and Rothberg International School. His current research interests
are the relationship between the American and Canadian Jewish
communities and the Land of Israel, the role of Sephardi (Middle
Eastern Jewish) entrepreneurs in the transfer of innovation and
technology to the Land of Israel through the use of biographies
and family biographies and the development of Canadian Studies
in Israel. He is the author together with Ruth Kark of Sephardi
Entrepreneurs in Eretz Israel, The Amzalak Family, 1816-1918
and the author of From New Zion to Old Zion, American Jewish
Immigration and Settlement in Palestine, 1917-1939. 
Howard Gontovnick is an instructor in the Department of
Continuing Education at Vanier College, Montreal. He is also a
psychotherapist with a private practice in Chomedey, Laval.
Rebecca Margolis is a graduate student in Yiddish Studies at
Columbia University in New York. She is currently working on a
doctoral dissertation on Yiddish literary culture in Montreal in the
interwar years.

Janine Stingel works at the National Archives of Canada in
Ottawa. She is the author of Social Discredit: Anti Semitism,
