Food Security and Conflict Nexus: An Empirical Evidence from South Asian Region
No full textPurpose: This emprical study aims to find the plausible link of food security and conflict for six conflict affected south asian countries durng 1990-2017.
Design/Methodology/Approach: Using the data from FAO for Dietary Energy Supply (DES) a proxy for food security and battled deaths for Conflict from Uppsala conflict database a panel of six south Asian countries has been analyzed. Using fix effect model.
Findings: The results reveal that conflict in selected sample of south Asian countries is negatively associated with food security as the onset of conflict the calories intake (kca/day/capita) decrease 26 on average in year. The results might be consistent with some recent empirical studies investigating the same relationship from other regions of the world.
Implications/Originality/Value: The empirical literature explaining this nexus of food security and conflict has been analyzed on the date from single country affected by conflict. Fewer studies investigate this relation which is based cross countries analysis. 
Application of Human Rights Laws in Pakistan: A Study with Reference to International Bill of Human Rights
No full textPurpose: The present paper explores the efforts of Pakistan regarding application of Human Rights Laws. At first, the research explains the main Human Rights declarations and covenants and then their incorporation into Pakistani laws has been described.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The global perspective of Human Rights and developments at regional level has been studied by using the domestic statutes, international covenants, conventional, etc. The doctrinal method of research has been adopted to achieve the objectives of the current study.
Implication: The study has disclosed that being signatory of UNO Conventions and Declarations, the Pakistan has been under obligation to incorporate International Human Rights into its legal system.
Findings: The study finds that Pakistan has taken into consideration the international developments on Human Rights and has enacted various laws accordingly to promote the fundamental liberties
Impact of Monetary Policy on Inflation and Investment in Pakistan: A Time Series Analysis
No full textPurpose: This study aims to explore the impact of monetary policy on inflation and investment in Pakistan.
Methodology: Our study employs the Autoregressive distributed lag model (ARDL) over the time of 1972 to 2019.
Findings: The empirical findings show that in the long-run impact of money supply has significant and positive on investment and other variables trade, foreign direct investment, gross domestic saving, services are also positively associated with the investment. While other variables interest rate and exchange rate negatively linked with investment. Empirical findings of the second econometric model show the core variable money supply has a significant and positive on inflation including other variables foreign direct investment, exchange rate, exports and government expenditures on education but other variables interest rate, gross domestic saving and agriculture output negatively linked with inflation.
Implications: The study indicates that a stable monetary policy should be introduced to improve a country's economic development. Monetary policy should be used to build an agreeable environment of uncertainty that draws both domestic and outside investors to promote economic growth. Economic growth can be accomplished by encouraging efficient monetary policy steps for inflation stability and attractive interest rates
Impact of Behavioral Biases and Decision Analysis Methods on Investment Performance of Individual Investors at PSX
No full textPurpose: Market bubbles and crashes remain unexplainable by classical finance theories. Because the history of the Pakistan Stock Exchange has been marked by occasional market bubbles and crashes, a behavioral study is conducted to investigate the impact of investor’s behavioral biases on investment performance. Design/Methodology/Approach: Our research investigates behavioral biases and examines the role of such biases in the selection of investment decision methods. We then investigate the direct impact of behavioral biases on investors' investment performance, as well as how investment analysis methods play a role in mediating the impact of behavioral biases on investment performance. We identified 11 irrational behavior biases based on existing literature and in-depth interviews with brokers, and two decision analysis methods are used: fundamental and technical.
Findings: Our findings show that PSX investors exhibit moderately high levels of irrational behavior. Despite their moderately high level of irrationality, investors can use fundamental analysis to make better decisions and achieve better results. Since they use fundamental analysis method, they are boundedly rational rather than completely irrational.
Implications/Originality/Value: The fundamental analysis does not fully mediate three determinants of irrationality, namely anchoring, control, and overconfidence. Individual investors and brokers are concerned about reducing the impact of these three biases in order to achieve optimal performance. Brokerage firms and fund managers are recommended to consider the behavioral aspects of investors to predict the future because behavioral factors of investors can not only shape the investment trend of individuals but also the market at large
Inter-tribal Conflict effects on Educational Development in Yemen: A Qualitative Analyses

Approach: This is achieved by collecting data applying qualitative tools of data collection. The data was collected from the students, teachers and tribal elders in Aden and Taiz through in-depth interview and focused group discussion. The data analyzed in the light of different themes derived from the primary data
Findings: The results indicated that the intertribal conflict has significantly affected the education infrastructure. Moreover, we found that inter-tribal conflict hampered the process of the development. More importantly, the educated people left the county and the government and people are not investing in the educational sector
Implications/Originality/Value: For the development of (education in) Yemen, all the political parties in the nation and regional and international communities must show more responsibility and commitment towards the current and future generations of Yemen and the world.  
Impact of Soap Operas on the Television Viewers: Experience from Pakistani Society
No full textPurpose: Soap operas are popular genre in media industry from all over the world. Generally, Soap operas focus on family dramas, domestic issues and women plight. There were number of studies conducted to explore public perception regarding soap operas. The present study aimed to explore the opinion from Pakistani society regarding their experience of watching Star plus soap operas.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The research based on Cultivation theoretical framework which intended to explore the difference between heavy and light viewers of Star plus soap operas. Research design is quantitative. Survey method is utilized to collect data from the respondents.
Findings: The results showed that there was no significant difference exist between heavy and light viewers perception. Both type of viewers supported females’ educational, political and legal rights in the society. The time spent in watching Star Plus soap operas did not have great impact on heavy viewers in changing their minds and thoughts.
Implications/Originality/Value: It is a unique study using survey method to gauge the opinion of heavy and light viewers of star plus soap operas. It will be very useful for other researchers who are interested in studying the impact of television in the lives of people. It will provide them with an excellent insight about the factors that mediate the cultivation process
Natural Calamities and Sensation in Media; A Study of Corona Virus Coverage in Electronic Media of Pakistan
No full textThe present paper critically examines the covid-19 reporting in the electronic media of Pakistan that how the electronic media is helping to fight or sensationalize the reports and updates of Coronavirus. In particular, it pays attention to the concepts of sensationalism related to natural calamities in electronic media. It also considers the impact of Covid-19 reporting how the electronic media is helping viewers through awareness campaigns whether it is creating motivation or stress among viewers. The data is collected by employing the survey method. Based on the data insights, the paper concludes by arguing that Pakistan's electronic media is creating stress, fear, and negative reporting and have low awareness campaigns related to Covid-19. The chapter suggests the implementation of guidelines by PEMRA. Moreover, more campaigns should be executed to create awareness and reducing fear among people
An Exploratory Inquiry into the Psychological Biases in Financial Investment Behavior Evidence from Pakistani Financial Markets
No full textPurpose: This research aims to explore the psychological biases in the investment behavior of Pakistani investors, which refers to the natural inclination of investors towards specific financial products based on certain perceptions developed through information or news relating to the issuer of financial products
Design/Methodology/Approach: A sample of twelve actively participating investors were selected in this research contacted through telephone in which the conversations were tape-recorded with the consent of the interviewee. It was then transcribed and coded into Ms. Word, or themes were developed.
Findings: Thematic analysis was conducted over the responses received; the results suggest that due to lack of training, knowledge relating to an investment in financial products, the behavior of investors is highly biased; partly either because of their association in the form of employment with issuing authorities or because of the news or information floated relating to financial products of the various companies.
Implications/Originality/Value: The study has many practical implications; the financial managers and consultants can design financial management behavior practical learning approach to reduce biases. Also, stock stockbrokers, investors identify such biases and reduce their impact. Furthermore, this study highlights the philosophical paradigm through ontological and epistemological understanding
An Investigation into the Impact of Power Outage on Working Capital Management in Textile Sector of Pakistan
No full textPurpose: Electricity, being the most important resource for any organization has substantial impact on working capital. So, it is substantial to analyze the impact of acute power shortage on firm’s liquidity and profitability. As acute power shortages in the country adversely affects the performance of firms by reducing profits and enhancing working capital investment cycle, it is noteworthy to analyze the effect of electricity crisis on firm’s need for liquidity. The aim of the research is to find the impact of power outage on working capital and profitability.
Design/Methodology/Approach: Using annual financial data of 102 textiles firms from 2008-2020, the study employed panel data analysis to measure the impact of acute power outage on firm’s working capital management.
Findings: The results revealed that acute power shortage significantly impact working capital management in textile firms of Pakistan. So, firms must go for alternative energy sources for long-run resulting into huge savings from losses for these firms.
Implications/Originality/Value: Motivated by the scarcity of empirical evidences from emerging economies and the importance of working capital efficiency, current study is the need of the day. The impact of power outages need to be explored in detail to gauge its impact on industry’s financial performance
Inclusive Education Opportunities in Punjab Pakistan: A Locale Based Comparison
No full textPurpose: The constitution of Pakistan firmly stated that no discrimination of opportunities will be tolerated among the citizens of Pakistan on behalf of color, creed, language, disability etc. But unfortunately, the dream of equality could not become reality. Inclusive education has been taking significant importance for the education of persons with disabilities (PWD’s) for a few decades. But, without equal opportunities, the seed of inclusion can never be fertiled. This study is an effort to depict the difference of existing inclusive education opportunities between rural and urban secondary schools of Punjab Pakistan.
Design/Methodology/Approach: Survey method was used to collect data from 196 male and female teachers serving in rural and urban secondary schools of conveniently selected five districts viz Okara, Lahore, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, and, kasur with a self-reporting questionnaire named Research Questionnaire on the Condition of Available Inclusive Education Opportunities in Secondary Schools of Punjab. For cross-validation, an interview schedule was made to take data from 17 students with disabilities. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used.
Findings: The study found that there was no significant difference of inclusive education opportunities in rural and urban secondary schools of Punjab.
Implications/Originality/Value: However special students denied various opportunities claimed by the inclusive education teachers
