    Excavating Future Challenges: An Analysis of Health Systems of One Hundred-Six Countries

    Purpose: Health system of a country is backbone of economy. It has fundamental importance in sustainable development of a country. Aim of this article is to excavate future challenges to health system of selected 106 countries. Design/Methodology/Approach: It is a country level comparative analysis of health risk factors. Design of the study includes review of literature, data extraction and analysis. The cross-sectional secondary data has been drawn from website of World Development Indicators (WDI) 2020. Grey relational analysis is used as technique of investigation. Findings: Results show that majorly, member countries of Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) have exceptionally high grey relational grade, therefore, are considered to be countries having less future health risks, whereas, Southern African Development Community (SADC) have exceptionally low grey relational grade, therefore, have high future health risk. Implications/Originality/Value: It is a unique study using different dataset and methods that provides valuable insights to political governments, researchers and health system managers.                                                            &nbsp

    The Effect of Risk Management at Project Planning Phase on Performance of Construction Projects in Pakistan

    Purpose: This research/investigation indorses a very good and systematized risk management method throughout planning stage of the project and with the contribution of construction specialists, end users and engineers. Methodology: The exploration project utilized quantitative examination plan. The examination study was both expressive and illustrative. The examination study was enlightening as it attempts to reaction the topic of what hazard the executives practices ought to be remembered for development projects arranging stage. Findings: The research study has successfully achieved its objective to identify the impact of risk identification, engineer/architect selection. All four hypotheses were accepted indicating; all the independent variables were positively related to project performance. There is strong positive relation between risk identification, engineer/architect selection and Project performance. There is a weak positive relation between sit selection, preliminary schedule and budget & Project performance. Implications: The researcher recommends the construction professional to focus on two major things during project planning which has greater impact over project performance, risk identification and engineer/architect selection

    Role of Value Added and Conventional Accounting Measures in Stimulating Stock Market Returns: A Study of Non-Financial Sector Listed at Pakistan Stock Exchange

    The purpose of this study is to examine the comparative relationship of value-added and conventional financial performance indicators with stock returns of listed companies of Pakistan Stock Exchange. Stock Return (SR) is used as an outcome variable, whereas, for measuring explanatory variables, Traditional Financial Performance indicators includes return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) and Earnings Per Share (EPS) whereas  modern performance indicators is measured through  economic value added (EVA), economic value added movement (EVAM), economic value added spread (EVAS). The sample consists of 107 companies and having 856 observations of non-financial sector listed on Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) for the time period 2011 to 2018. Findings reveal that stock returns are more influenced by the value that is created by listed companies for their shareholders than the accounting profits. The study aims at providing useful information for the management, investors, researchers, and regulators

    Child Labour in Pakistan: Way Out Analyzing Constitutional Mandate

    Purpose: Child Labor is the worldwide social issue. The study undertaken attempts to identify the reasons behind child labour and to assess the socio-economic related problems faced by the working children. This study further analysis the effectiveness, sufficiency and potential of the constitutional provisions concerning children’s rights as committed in the Constitution, 1973. Findings: In Pakistan, child labour is not only prohibited, it is discouraged by providing a free compulsory education, self-respect and social welfare. Though, these provisions are healthy sign, but are not comprehensive on child labour particularly for determining the   minimum age and nature of work. Even these provisions are not clear, and harmonious with one another. Implications: Furthermore, the ordinary laws are not in compatibility mode of the constitutional provisions. Such complications are both about child and child labour definition. So, it is suggested to have a single common standard of these two basic factors in child labour context for saving the children from indulging in child labour in Pakistan

    Impact of COVID-19 on Socio-Religious Integration in Developing Countries: A Case Study of India and Pakistan

    Purpose: Integrity is pre-requisite for the prosperity and development of the society. Stable integration is the sign of justice, equality, rights and duties which provides tolerated society and religious inclusion. But, developing countries still have many challenges to stabilize their socio-religious integration due to non-cooperative behavior among different segments of the society, lack of politico-religious tolerance and less socio-economic development. The other factors responsible are poor educational and health system, weak social institution, marginalized segments of society, absences of culture of welfare state. Likewise, in India, communal conflicts remain present in every time as well as Pakistan faces sectarian tension and in both countries, religious norms and attitudes are used for political purposes. Similarly, both countries have the challenges of inequality and injustices within their communities. Design/Methodology/Approach: The qualitative techniques have been applied in this research. Date has been collected from Secondary and Primary Sources. Findings: Economic development is necessary for the development of the social prosperity without it socio-religious integration is a dream. Implications/Originality/Value: The epidemic COVID-19 has challenged the socio-religiosity of the developing countries which affected the socio-economic and religious set up of these countries ruthlessly

    Abrogation of Article 370 and the Media Framing of Kashmir Conflict: A Pursuit for Re-conciliatory Approach

    Objective: The study at hand attempts to analyze the media framing of J&K conflict in the context of abrogation of Article 370 along with comprehending the extent to which ideals of peace journalism can be translated into journalistic practices. Methodology: Quantitative analysis of the news items published in Dawn and The Nation (Pakistani media); Times of India and The Hindu (Indian media) indicated that the media framing of Kashmir conflict by the all four selected English dailies from India and Pakistan was heavily dominated by war framing. Findings: Findings of the qualitative interviews conducted from the Indian and Pakistani journalists indicated that the ideals of peace journalism can be translated in to journalistic practices by not justifying human rights violations and by focusing on more in-depth coverage of less visible effects of conflict.  A search for common grounds among key stake holders and refraining from becoming part of propaganda were among other key factors which can play a vital role in practicing peace journalism. Implications: Peace Journalism can be understood as a special form of responsible journalism as it has the potential to contribute in the peace process

    Implementation of Juvenile Justice System Act 2018: Prospects and Challenges for Pakistan

    Purpose: This paper develops a framework for analyzing the practical implementation of Juvenile Justice System Act 2018, and bottlenecks which are being faced by the juvenile during the process of trial before the court of law. Few areas need to be examined while determining the practical implementation of this act, as its procedural requirements have not been yet followed in the field. This paper aims to identify those obstructions which are necessary to be dealt with iron hand in order to ensure the full implementation of the act. Design: Qualitative content analysis method has been used to analyze the various factors, which are responsible for the failure to implement the said act. Findings:  Findings on the topic suggest that even at the stage of registration of first information report , the age of juvenile is neglected and loopholes continues till the conclusion of trial. The crux is that in order to avoid the exploitation of juvenile offender during trial, the Provincial and Federal Governments should play their role to ensure that procedural requirements are met as envisaged by the said act. Implications: The practical and firm implementation of Juvenile Justice System Act 2018, competent authorities and requisite institutions should realize their role

    Inclusive Practices in the Existing School Environment: Parental Perceptions and Concerns

    Purpose: This qualitative research paper explores the factors affecting parental perceptions and concerns about inclusive education. It also investigates the factors influencing the access and participation of children with disabilities in mainstream schools. Design/Methodology/Approach: Ten parents (n=10) of children with and without disabilities were selected through purposive sampling from inclusive primary schools of Punjab. Semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis were employed for data collection and analysis. Findings: Findings revealed that parents of children with disabilities are more inclined towards inclusive education. Reactions of parents, quality of instruction and institutional support have created a feeling of un-certainty and dissatisfaction amongst the parents of children with disabilities about inclusion. Large class sizes and time constraints have been established as barriers to inclusion. Implications/Originality/Value: The study would be beneficial for the school department to consider the factors adversely affecting the process of inclusion.  Parents’ guidance and counselling may be made mandatory to make inclusive education successful

    Provision of Technical and Vocational Education and Training to Needy Youth in Punjab: An Explanatory Study

    Purpose: The main focus of the study was to explain the perspective of the principals of Vocational Training Institutions (VTIs) on the provision of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to deprived and needy youth. These institutions are being run by Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC). This paper is an intellectual effort to search out the strengths and weaknesses of TVET program and to find out the actual needs of the institutes for providing quality technical and vocational education. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study was qualitative in nature. An in depth interview schedule, validated by a panel of three experts, was designed to collect data. The population of the study consisted of all 208 principals working in VTIs in Punjab. The sample of study consisted of 20 principals (10% of the population) who were randomly selected from all the institutes of Punjab. Findings: Results revealed that TVET is an effective tool for imparting skills to the deprived and needy youth which enables them to live their lives with prosperity and dignity. Additionally, it is an important factor to alleviate poverty. On the other hand, TVET program is lacking in provision of latest equipment, trained and sufficient staff and demand driven skills. Implications/Originality/Value: The study will be beneficial to policy makers, provincial government and the authorities of Punjab Vocational Training Council

    Gender Differences in Preferred Work Values in Pakistani IT Industry: Insights from Generation Z

    Purpose: Information Technology is playing a vital role in supporting struggling economies in the world and the Generation Z has the remarkable potential to make things happen in this context among all known cohorts. More than one third population of Pakistan falls in Generation Z and almost 48% of this pool comprises of females. Increasing trend in Pakistani females perusing higher studies and momentous enrollment of females at degree level implies that a significant chunk of available manpower for IT industry will be female in gender in upcoming years. IT industry has to pay attention to employability preferences of this pool as well in order to attract, attain and retain the best talented resources out of this segment to gain competitive advantage. Design/Methodology/Approach: This study is based upon a sample of IT students, approached through mixed sampling technique and gender-specific comparison is conducted with the help Mann-Whiney U test after ensuring reliability and validity checks. Findings: The results depict gender differences in almost 37% variables considered in this study, hence serve as a strong baseline for practitioners and strategists of IT industry in Pakistan to gain a competitive edge in ever-changing, dynamic business world. Implications/Originality/Value: Although handling of Generation Z representatives is a significant challenge for managers belonging to antecedent generations in current business operations, gender differences are yet another dimension to be explored in detail for competitiveness
