Relationship between Representation of Violence Against Women in TV Drama Serials and Reactivity of Viewers
Purpose: The present study aims to explore the role of viewer’s reactivity of entertainment and empathy in their perception of violence against women among viewers of Lahore, Pakistan. The supplementary aim was also formulated to gain more clear insight which is the role of viewers’ gender in viewer’s reactivity and perception of violence against women.
Design/Methodology/Approach
Quantitative method was used in the study. Sample was consisted of 500 viewers of the thirty dramas serials of Geo, ARY Digital and Hum TV which presented violence against women. The participants were drawn through purposive and snowball sampling strategies. The sample has 233 male participants and 267 female participants.
Findings: The findings indicated that viewer’s reactivity of both enjoyment and empathy correlated with perception of violence against women. Gender differences were found only for the one sub scale of perception (i.e., domination).
Implications/Originality/Value: The findings highlighted that perception of violence against women was more inclined towards active violence being portrayed by the entertainment channels and chances to imitate the same behavior in society cannot be ruled out
Organizational and Personal Drivers of the Financial Sector: A Focus Group of Banking Officials in Pakistan
Purpose: This study intends to explore the key challenges the financial sector faces today about employees’ perspectives and how these challenges eventually play a role in the employee’s work-life balance.
Design/Methodology/Approach: A Focus group was conducted with a leading multinational bank in Pakistan. Six managerial cadre employees participated in the focus group study. The focus group analysis suggests very stringent rules and regulations incorporated by SBP that bind each bank to undergo strict compliance.
Findings: The challenge of customer retention, declining interest rates, coping with the frugal economic situation of the country, meeting customer satisfaction, incorporating personal relationship management, use of ancillary support services by customers, reward and recognition to employees, dealing with information savvy knowledgeable customers, work-life balance and overall motivation of the bank employees are assumed by the participants as the key challenges that drive the banking industry of Pakistan.
Implications/Originality/Value: Senior management of the banking sector of Pakistan can learn from the problems discussed, and the possible solution proposed to the said problems. This research contributes to the body of knowledge while explaining the issues faced by the professionals working in the banking sector of Pakistan
Significance of Financial and Non Financial Information on Credit Rating: An Empirical Study on Banking and Insurance Sectors of Pakistan
Purpose: Apart from standard spheres of financial institutions’ performance such as asset quality, profitability, liquidity and efficiency; the study investigates the influence of non-financial factors such as governance and management.
Design/Methodology/Approach: This study utilizes 2009 through 2018 data for the sample of commercial banks and insurance companies of Pakistan to analyze the significance of financial and non-financial information on credit rating. The study is done by employing frequently used Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square (FMOLS).
Findings: The main contribution lies including explanatory variables from various areas that have an impact on the financial position of the examined banks and insurance companies.
Implications/Originality/Value: The obtained results suggest that the combined use of financial and non-financial information tends to a significant impact on credit rating
What Drives Individual Investors to Invest in Mutual Funds in a Developing Economy
Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate factors that influence investment in mutual funds by individual investors in a developing economy. Drawing insights from the theory of planned behaviour, the study identified and tested the effect of awareness, attitude, financial literacy and preference for other competing investments on intention to invest in mutual funds by individual investors.
Design/Methodology/Approach: Data was collected from 280 respondents in Zambia. Data was analysed using correlations and hierarchical regression models.
Findings: The study reveals that awareness and attitude towards mutual funds significantly influence intention to invest in mutual funds. Surprisingly, financial literacy and preference for other investments do not significantly affect an individual investor’s intention to invest in mutual funds.
Implications/Originality/Value: This study contributes to the financial services marketing literature by increasing understanding of individual investors’ investment decisions and drivers that influence intention to invest in mutual funds in Zambia. The study recommends that mutual funds marketers should invest more in building awareness and positive attitude towards investment in mutual funds in order to develop retail demand. Also, investment companies and financial services marketing policy makers should carefully consider their financial literacy programmes as the study reveals that financial literacy and competing investments are not significant drivers.
 
An Assessment of Financial Stability of Textile Sector of Pakistan: An Altman Z Score Approach
Purpose: The study purpose is to examine the financial stability of Pakistani textile enterprises. Investment towards textile is crucial to boost the textile sector’s financial performance, which can be analyzed by adopting the model of Altman Z-score.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The Altman Z-score approach is a method, applied to analyze the financial stability of textile firms for seven years from 2013-2014 to 2019-2020 through the annual reports of textile firms which were taken from companies’ website and PSX links. Quantitative analysis is done by MS-Excel using simple random sampling technique of secondary data of 10 firms taken from 5% listed companies.
Findings:Finding of the study shows that financial performance of textile sector lies in all three zones of safe, grey and distress zones. 30% of textile sector falls in safe zone, 40% falls in grey while only 30% of textile sector of Pakistan falls in distress zone. Average result of textile sector of Pakistan is in grey zone, which shows the companies can get safe zone if they control required ratios.
Implications/Originality/Value: Result shows that textile firms of Pakistan may improve financial performance and stability because it lies in grey zone by controlling their financial ratios which are the part of Altman Z-Score model
Speech-Language Intervention used by Professionals for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Pakistan
Purpose: This study will benefit the field of Autism as well as incorporation of communication interventions for the Professionals for Children with Autism in Pakistan. The objective of the study was to find the most common types of Speech-Language interventions used by professionals, Speech-Language interventions preferred by professionals, Speech-Language interventions supported by parents of children with autism.
Methodology: The study was quantitative the data was collected from the100 health Professionals working in government and private autism centers or settings in different cities of Punjab. A purposive sampling technique was used. The researcher developed a questionnaire was developed by research considering literature review. The questioner had 35 questions related to interventions given by health professionals working in government and private autism centers.
Findings: Findings of the study showed that many institutions were giving various therapeutic services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder regarding speech and language but mostly experienced people were practicing speech therapy and PECS as speech and language intervention
Assessing the Impact of Education on Women’s Political Participation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan
Purpose: Societies across the world, on the basis of their social, cultural, and economic positions have different approaches to women's political empowerment. In addition, education is commonly used to assess a woman's position, and it is increasingly being recognized in modern literature as a means of empowering women by diversifying their competencies. The present hypothesis the relation between literacy level and female participation politics in District Dir.
Methodology: Out of 363, 205 female participants were recruited as the sample size for data collection through the proportional allocation method.
Findings: From the statistical analysis, it has resulted that illiterate group as highly significant and positive association between education fallacy and women political participation was found. Likewise, the aforesaid variables were also observed highly significant and positive for an educated group. Meanwhile, the table as a whole disclosed highly significant and positive co-relation between education fallacy and women political participation.
Implications: Encouraging and motivating female segments of the society for accruing education while providing educational facilities at the local level are some of the recommendation
Ancillary Revenue of Full Service Airline An analysis of the Passenger’s Willingness to Pay |WTP| (The Case of Middle East Airlines)
Purpose: The provision of auxiliary services to paying customers is becoming an increasingly important focus for full-service airlines as they look for novel strategies and opportunities to generate more revenue. Therefore, the measuring of passengers' willingness to pay, also known as WTP, is critical for accurately estimating the demand for ancillary services and setting prices for those services. The current study investigates whether the type of consumer, the purpose for the journey, the duration of the flight, and the aircraft class can have an effect on the willingness-to-pay for supplementary services provided by Middle East Airlines (MEA).
Design/Methodology/Approach: The data that are utilized in this quantitative research is derived from a survey that was administered to the passengers of Middle East Airline. This was followed by an exploratory and confirmatory analysis that investigated the link between WTP and the factors that were involved.
Findings: The study revealed that business travelers are more likely to pay for additional luggage and priority boarding, particularly when they are taking long trips. In addition, bundles, which often consist of car rental and hotel stays, are of utmost significance and are given considerable thought by business travelers.
Implications/Originality/Value: This research may assist airline businesses (mainly MEA) in both short- and long-distance travel in providing new and additional services for business travelers in order to boost ancillary revenue. This research will be helpful to airlines in developing an efficient and accurate pricing system for the ancillary services and products, which will be carried out by measuring the consumer's WTP (willingness to pay).  
Factors that Influence the Public Sector Universities Performance in Pakistan
Purpose: The perceived performance of the public sector universities mainly depends upon on academia particularly the faculty members’ potential contribution, quality of teaching and knowledge generation. HRM practices are designed in such a way to accelerate performance of employees, for attaining organizational aims and objectives with organizational justice. Whereas the workforce of any organization is deemed as dynamic asset to contribute for institutional performance. Therefore, career success of the faculty members has been taken as mediating variable in the study.
Design/Methodology/Approach: For crafting the research study, faculty members were chosen from Pakistan’s public-sector universities. Whereas, to establish the conceptual framework, the researchers have applied the Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT) as the underpinning theory for this construct. For sampling purposes, proportionate stratified sampling has been designed; random sampling was utilized to select the respondents within each stratum. The questionnaire was distributed among individuals personally. Afterword, data were cleaned for missing values, outliers, aberrant values and tested for normality, reliability, and validity.
Findings: Hypotheses were tested by applying partial least squares - structural equation modelling (SEM) technique through statistical software SMART PLS licenced version 3. The construct in the context of Pakistan in amongst the preliminary studies.
Implications/Originality/Value: The findings will be helpful for higher education commission of Pakistan for designing strategies
The Art of Manipulating Masses and Failure of Leadership in Orwells Animal Farm and Pakistani Politics: A Comparative Study
Purpose: The purpose of this research study is to comparatively study George Orwell’s Animal Farm (1945) and Pakistani political scenario. The study attempts to find similarities between the two from various aspects such as economy, freedom of speech, leadership, etc., and their effect on the masses.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The study is mainly qualitative as the evidence is gathered from the novella Animal Farm and the public speeches, interviews, and from the social media handles of leading politicians. Critical Discourse Model (CDA), developed by Van Dijk (2001), is employed for the analysis and discussion. The selected texts were then contextualized for comparative analysis.
Findings: The textual evidence collected from the novella Animal Farm and the speeches, interviews, and social media posts from the political leaders reveal that there are certain common elements in both parties. The common elements include censorship on freedom of expression, lack of deliverance on the part of leadership, worsening economy, etc.
Implications/Originality/Value: This research study is significant in the sense it is applicable on various levels such as leadership and its role in shaping the fate of society, the importance of freedom of speech as it paves the way for discussion for a better future of a nation. It also discusses the reason for the failure of economy. Furthermore, it is applicable to prevail justice and equality in society in all forms. This study aimed at discussing the common elements between Animal Farm and Pakistani politics. This is, to the best of my knowledge, perhaps, the first attempt in this regard. It is beneficial for readers in the sense that it provides them to relate the fictional world of Animal Farm to the real happenings in society and its impact on members of the society. Furthermore, it is suggestive in the sense that it provides a solution/alternative for the politicians and stakeholders of the state
