    PSYCHOEDUCATION THERAPY REDUCES BURDEN AND IMPROVES FAMILY ABILITY IN CARING FOR MENTAL RETARDATION CHILDREN

    Introduction: Children with mental retardation have intellectual functioning below average, inadequate self-care behaviors, socializing, communication, adaptive skills, participation and family support is needed to enhance the independence of the child so that the capability increased and decreased the family burden. Various therapists can be treated to increase the capability of families including family psyche-education therapy. This study is aimed to identify the influence of psycho-education therapy to the family burden and the capability of families in caring for mentally retarded children in SDLB Prof. Dr. Sri Soedewi Masjchun Sofwan, SH Jambi. Method: Quantitative research quasi-experimental, nonequivalent, control group pre-test and post-test design. A sample of 64 respondents consisting of 32 intervention and 32 control with proportional random sampling technique. The data was collected using a structured questionnaire with interview method. Result: The results showed a decrease of the burden and increase the capability of a family in caring for children with mental retardation after psycho-education therapy. Psycho-education therapy is a therapy that can be implemented for a family with psychosocial disorders where exchanged information on mental health care due to the illness suffered, help family members to understand about the disease. Discussion: It is recommended to conduct research that combines psycho-education therapy and supportive therapy to psychosocial support family of children with mental retardation.Keywords: burden, caring capability, mental retardation, psycho-educatio

    INCREASING OF KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF WOMEN IN MEETING THE NUTRITION DURING PREGNANCY THROUGH HEALTH PROMOTION

    Introduction: Pregnancy lead to changes in anatomical, physiological, and biochemical. Changes of it affect the nutritional needs of pregnancy. Knowledge and a bad attitude will affect the nutritional needs of pregnancy.  This research aims to know the affect of health promotion of the knowledge and attitude of mother in fulfillment of nutrition during pregnancy in Paberasan village. Method: The quasy experiment with pretest posttest control group design. The amount of pregnant in Paberasan village were 32 people. Analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test and Mann-Whitney. Result: The result showed that, the treatment group before given health promotion the majority have enough knowledge (81,25%). After given health promotion all of respondent have good knowledge (100%). The attitude of pregnant before given health promotion the majority have enough attitude (68,75%). After given health promotion the majority have good attitude (68,75%). In the control group before given health promotion the majority have knowledge enough (75%). The control group obtained the results of the knowledge tends to remain. The attitude of pregnant before given health promotion majority has enough attitude (62,50%). The control group obtained the result of the attitude tends to remain. Mann-Whitney test results obtained significant value p=0,000 less than 0.05. Attitude test results before and after treatment in the treatment group and the control group obtained significant value p = 0.001 less than 0.05. The results showed that there is effect of health promotion of the knowledge and attitudes of mothers in fulfillment of nutrition during pregnancy. Discussion: Health workers in Paberasan village to give health promotion about the fulfillment of nutrition during pregnancy to the community to help improve the knowledge of society and help realize the achievement of fulfillment of good nutrition during pregnancy. Keyword: Promotion, health, nutrition, pregnant, knowledge, attitudes, Paberasan, Sumene

    THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PRECEPTORSHIP MODEL IMPROVE COMPETENCY ACHIEVEMENT OF NURSING CLINICAL STUDENTS

    Nursing clinical study as purpose to create a nurse graduate which have competency include cognitive, skills and good manner, be able to give nursing  and health services with apply the nursing principles and rules in the  health system services. The achievement of student’s competency is obtain by selection of appropriate of learning models. Preceptor ship is one of the learning model in clinical study. The research aims to analyze the implementation of preceptor ship model toward competency achievement of nursing clinical students. This first years is a observational quantitative study. Samples was taken by consecutive sampling to 38 preceptees and 38 preceptors. The data was taken by checklist instrument. The data processing used univariate and bivariate within chi-square. The results showed that 20 (52.6%) preceptors were good in preceptor ship implementations and 18 (47.6%) preceptors were less good. While that the competency of student’s achievement results showed that amount 21 (53.3%) were achieved and amount 17 (44.7%) were half achieved. Chi-square result showed that p-value 0.010 (<0.05) which means there were correlation between implementation of preceptorship model toward competency achievement of nursing clinical students. This research recommended preceptor ship model into clinical learning towards enhance the competency achievement of students

    FEEDING PATTERN TOWARD THE INCREASING OF NUTRITIONAL STATUS IN CHILDREN AGED 1–3 YEARS

    Introduction: The prevalence of nutritional status problems with underweight in Indonesia at the moments is (19,6%). Data showed that children with less nutritional status aged 1-3 years in Kalijudan, Surabaya are existed. Provide feeding pattern properly is one effort to improve the nutritional status by fulfilling the needs of the child nutrition. The purpose of this study was to explain the relationship of feeding pattern and nutritional status in children aged 1-3 years in the Kalijudan district, Surabaya. Methods: The research design used was cross-sectional study with dietary habit as the independent variable and nutritional status as dependent variable. The sample was taken from 154 mothers and children. Consecutive sampling was deployed. Data collection by questionnaires, and then data analysis using the Spearman’s Rho in level  of significance α≤0.05. Result and Analysis: There was strong relationship between feeding pattern and nutritional status (r=0.640). The result showed that inappropriate feeding patterns with nutritional status is very thin (44.4%) a proper feeding patterns with normal nutritional status (89.7%).  Discussion and Conclussion: The efforts to improve nutritional status of children aged 1-3 years related to feeding patterns should be improved in order to achieve a normal nutritional status. Further research may explore on the feeding patterns based on dietary allowances.Keywords: feeding pattern, nutritional status, 1-3 years old childre

    Background: Clinical learning in internship program is a very imperative. Taking care of patients in the clinil will train the students to sharpen their critical thinking. Critical thinking competence among nursing students is important to provide a holistic nursing care. Mind Mapping is a method used in the clinical learning using a creative colorful diagram. It contains a main idea and key data of patients who were taken care of by the students in the medical surgical unit. Objective: This study aims to enhance critical thinking competence among nursing students in the intership program, medical surgical cycle. Method: The design of this study was a quasi experiment with one group pre and post test. The Mind Mapping method was given before the participants started their medical surgical clinical cycle. The guidance to develop the mind mapping (coaching) was given for approximately 60 minutes every week, for a total of 5 weeks clinical practice. The level of critical thinking competence was measured using Critical Thinking Disposition Self-Rating Form (CTDSR) which contains of 20 statements with dicotomous response. Wilcoxon Match Paired Test was used to analyse the data. Result: There 23 students enrolled in this study. Those participants were from 3 different groups. The coaching program was conducted from June-September 2016. The GPA of the respondents was above 3.0. The analysis result showed that the mean rank of post test was significantly higher than the mean rank of the pretest (Z=-2.034, P<0.05). Conclusion: The clinical learning as well as coaching in the internship program using Mind Mapping  method is strongly suggested.     PACKAGE OF BIRTHING BALL, PELVIC ROCKING, AND ENDORPHIN MASSAGE (BPE) DECREASE THE FIRST STEP LABOR PAIN

    Background and Purpose: Labor pain is unpleasant and frightening experience for birth mother. In addition, labor pain cause exhaustion and childbirth trauma.Birthing ball, pelvic rocking, and endorphin (B.P.E) massage are emerging as non-pharmacology methods of pain management in labor. The aimed of this study was to investigate the effect of package of BPE on labour pain during the first stage of labor. Method: This study was quasi-experiment. Total numbers of samples were 23 mothers who were in the first stage of labor. Samples were selected by using quota sampling technique. Instrument of this study was numeric rating scale (NRS). Result: Data analysis by using paired sample t-test revealed that there were significantly different between before and after the intervention of BPE on labour pain during the first stage of labor in this study (p <0.01).  Conclusion and recommendation: This study showed that BPE is effective as non-pharmacology methods on pain relieve of first stage of labor.     The Parents’ Perception Having Children with Intellectual Disabilities Provided with Sex Education

    Introduction: Children with intellectual disabilities have the same sexual needs as non-disabled children. Parents are their child’s primary sex educator, but many parents are afraid of talking to their children about sex. The purpose of this study was to explore the perception of parents when providing sex education to children with intellectual disabilities. Methods: the study was qualitative research conducted using a phenomenological approach. The data collection used focus group discussions (FGDs) and in-depth interviews (face-to-face) with ten parents who had children with mild or moderate intellectual disability, aged nine-eighteen years registered at one of public school for children with special needs in Yogyakarta. Results: Four themes were found; the importance of sex education for children with an intellectual disability, the mother has the most crucial role in providing sex education, the distinction of sex education for children with intellectual disability and religion is essential in sex education. Conclusions: The role of the parents, especially the mother, is significant to provide sex education; more so than the father. The parents should be delivered earlier sex education to protect them from sex abuse

    Voluntary nurses is the nurses who provide health care voluntarily without expecting any fee. Caring behavior of voluntary nurses is the skill of voluntary nurses giving attention, empaty,and helping clients to fullfil their daily needs as long as voluntary nurses giving nursing care in hospital. The objective of the research was to explore deeply caring behavior of voluntary nurses to the client in Padangsidimpuan General Hospital. The research used phenomenological design. The data were gathered by conducting in-depth interviews. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the participants who had met the criteria. They consisted of 6 voluntary nursesin Padangsidimpuan General Hospital. The result of the interviews was recorded and analyzed by using content analysis. The result of the research showed that there were 4 themes which reflected the research phenomena. They were Voluntary Nurses care to the clients, Voluntary nurses doing holistic nursing care, Voluntary nurses respect clients, and The effects of caring behavior of voluntary nurses.     LEARNING MODEL OF HOSPITAL CLINICAL PRACTICE FROM STUDENT AND CLINICAL EDUCATOR POINT OF VIEW: A QUALITATIVE STUDY

    Background and Purpose: Qualified education is characterized by qualified teaching and learning in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical practice. Producing nurses who are able to provide professional nursing care for patients requires learning process in practice by using learning models. The purpose of this study was to explore the experience and expectation of students and clinical instructors on practices learning model in Ners Program of STIKES Bali.Method: This study used qualitative design with phenomenology approach. There were 8 participants from students and clinical instructors selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected by in-depth interviews. Data was transcribed and analyzed using thematic analyses. Results: Findings indicated that there were five themes related to student and clinical instructor’s experience and expectation about practices learning model. The themes were supporting from institution and clinic, bed side teaching (BST), conference, lack of time of clinical instructor in supervising, and case study. BST, conference, and case study were some of learning models implemented in clinical practices. These methods will run properly if there are good supporting and optimal supervising. Conclusion and Recommendation: BST, conference, and case study are appropriate methods for clinical teaching. Lack of time in supervising is one of barriers found. It is essential for clinical instructors to spend sufficient time to supervise students in clinical practice.

    INTERPROFESSIONAL ATTITUDES INFLUENCE THE READINESS OF HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONS STUDENTS FOR INTERPROFESSIONAL LEARNING

    Background and Purpose: Collaboration among health care profession is required to create synergism in delivering health care at various clinical setting. This collaboration should be initiated at the academic setting through interprofessional learning.  The Purpose of this research was to identify the influence of interprofessional attitudes to readiness of health care professions students for interprofessional learning.Method: Research method used quantitative with descriptive comparative design and cross sectional approaches. RIPLS and IPAS survey were completed by 180 medical and nursing students. Results:  The majority of respondents were 20 years old, 134 were female and 53 respondents were in second year level.  From Chi square statistic analysis, it was found that that there were no relationship between age, gender and level of academic with readiness for interprofessional learning (pvalue >.05).  However, there was a significant relationship between interprofessional attitude of medical (p=.000; α=.05) and nursing students (p= .001 α=.05) with readiness for interprofessional learning. Conclusion and recommendation: It was suggested that interprofessional attitudes of health care professions students should be develop properly in the academic settings, thus it will bridge the gap between others health care professions
